Rather disappointing
At such a price we expect either a decor to match or exceptional dishes. We had neither. Wines that come from the ends of the world but which are not sensational. Nice service but canteen type setting. There must be better things in London.

One year later, we took our family to a2:51 @Moko in Tottenham. We were not disappointed! The children were looking forward to the fried chicken. The Caribbean food was delicious- sweet potato curry rool, mutton croquette, and jerk pork ribs were amazing! The ribs were tender and tasty; the croquette was unforgettable. Almost forgot to mention the superb rum raisin espresso Martini. Main course highlight- they were all good, but this was superlative- was salt cod, callaloo, sweetcorn broth. We finished with the coconut ice cream and white chocolate. Great vibe in this relatively new North London venue, and awesome food. He's a talented chef! My girls are already demanding to return! What a great compliment to Chef James. We will return.

Worst Sunday roast ever. Booked the table having read positive, but outdated reviews on the Sunday roast. First warning sign was that they donโt have coffee or teaโฆe we had to go across the road to Gailโs to get a coffee and bring it back in while waiting for the food! Waited 45 mins for half the lunch to come out and then waited a further few minutes for the other half so we could get started. The food was barely warm and it came with one teeny tiny serving of gravy. Since the roast was all pretty bland it definitely needed the gravy and as two people it wasnโt enough to even cover the potatoes. We asked for some more which took about 10 mins to arrive. Food was cold. They tried to add the charge of ยฃ6.50 for the โextraโ gravy?! No check back on table or at end of meal. Strange meal experience. Wonโt be returning & by looks of other recent reviews it doesnโt seem to be what it apparently once was. P.s other review is correct it is looking a bit run down too.

Honestly wasnโt very good been before and found it lovely. No wifi as needed to be In touch at all times due to work and phone donโt work inside there. Also the cabbage dish was horrendous it was cabbage with lemon poured on it. I donโt know whatโs happened to this restaurant but itโs a shame It was soo good. Maybe the owner needs to come back to the restaurant and sort out the problems. Wonโt be going back anytime soon soon ๐

Been here loads of times but this time they stopped serving beers. The decor is getting old. Wonky seats. Amazing service though
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food
The food was so delicious. Iโve been wanting to visit the restaurant for some time and was not disappointed. We had the Sunday set menu and left so unbelievably full from the generous portion sizes. All the courses were beautifully presented and each element was spot on. Honestly some of the best food Iโve ever eaten. Staff were lovely and attentive. Nice to have a fine dining meal and experience without any pretentiousness.
Be the first to ReplyGross black hair
The staff were lovely mostly. The food was fine mostly, however we thought it was not worth the money nor was it a fine dining experience. My 2 star review is due to finding a long black hair was in my duck croquette. It was so baked in to it that bits of croquette were still in tangled to it when I pulled it from my mouth. Iโve short hair and my friends are blond incase you were wondering. As it put us all off that course hardly any of it was eaten so I was disappointed that no replacement of reimbursement was offered after showing it to the staff. In that same course my vegetarian friend had their duck replaced with a bit of what appeared to be unimaginative cabbage, which we are sure we had eaten in the previous course. We did not feel our feedback on this was taken seriously

My brother and I treated our parents to the 8 course tasting menu as a belated Christmas Present. The 4 of us were very much looking forward to this dinner being fans of The Great British Menu and fine dining experiences. However, the whole experience was extremely underwhelming. Although each dish looked aesthetically pleasing, there was no wow factor when eating it - it was all very average and no synergy between the courses. The last two courses in particular were disappointing which was essentially a doughnut in a bowl and a waffle with melted cheese on top?. I wouldn't rush back here and it was expensive for what it was worth as we also treated them to the wine pairing too! However, the service was great and our waitresses were knowledgeable; the restaurant was quite cramped too.
Be the first to ReplyA very disappointing experience.
We visited 12.51 on Wed 24th Jan 2024 at 5.30. It was a tasting menu..a gift from our son. Although we accept it was a tasting menu we felt most of the food was too salty and the textures and flavours didn't work. Even the skin on the small piece of duck we got wasn't crispy & the doughnut at the end was stodgy! We were very disappointed especially as it was so expensive. Hard to believe Chef Cochran would be happy with the standard of food we received that evening. Two unhappy customers.

4/1/24 - 2 of us ordered the 5 course vegetarian tasting menu. 1 of us is gluten free and gave the required 48 hours notice. The food was lovely, but just not enough of it and not enough protein to fill you up. I've had many tasting menus and always been nicely full before (female, size 12 so not a huge appetite) but I left not feeling full. My gluten free daughter, had a nice substitute piece of bread, but after that the gf solution was to simply omit the gluten item and not provide a substitute. So no substitute for the barley in the main course, no doughnut substitute, and actually still expecting us to share the acompanying mousse. Even the waitress realised that looked mean and went to get another mousse. Overall the value for money just wasn't there and the experience was disappointing. Afterwards she was still hungry and we went to Sainsburys for additional food, which isn't what you expect to need to do after spending ยฃ100 on your dinner for 2 + of course the 12.5% which is automatically added to your bill.
Be the first to ReplySo sad this was disappointing :(
It is with a real heavy heart I post this review. Having followed on social media for well over a year, having dropped many many hints to my husband about wanting to sample 12.51, he took me for my birthday in February 2023. I was so excited for this meal. We arrived a little early, but they said they were happy for us to take our seat. They wished me a happy birthday and brought out a glass of bubbles. Lovely. Husband had arranged the 10 course with drinks pairing. I had not even finished my bubbles when the bread, swiftly followed by first and second dish came out. The bread and butter was lovely. And the first 2 courses, the jerk chicken and the neeps and tatties black pudding hash brown were incredible. But very rich. And washed down with a pairing of a rum, apple and Prosecco cocktail, it was a bit intense. Which is why when the next course and wine came out, with 2 drinks already parked, I was beginning to struggle. As the mackerel went in my mouth I immediately gagged. I could not swallow it, and my husband finished the dish. I normally love fish and seafood so this was worrying. The celeriac dish was lovely, but service continued to be very quick, and the dish with the crab baji unfortunately had the same effect. At this point my husband asked them to slow down- we had 6 courses in under an hour and with paired drinks it was all too much. It was with much anxiety the next course was partridge. I often struggle with the richness of game, especially as high end restaurants often serve it quite rare. However mine was quite well cooked, which made it more tolerable, however my husbands was like a drumstick lolly- half white half pink. At this point he complained and he was offered another dish or the veggie option, but he declined. The cheese and dessert were lovely, normally by that stage Iโm stuffed and the husband eats my dessert but having gagged on 2 dishes I was still reasonably hungry and the dessert was probably one of the best dishes. They came and asked if we wanted anything else. We asked for a coffee but they were unable to facilitate that. I mean even a greasy spoon cafe can muster up a coffee! Having complained, they did knock ยฃ20 off the bill. Small fry considering the spend. But upset that my birthday meal had not been what he had hoped, my husband paid and we made a swift exit. He followed up the issues on social media via Instagram, but 3 weeks later heโs had no follow up. In summary, service was rushed, cooking on a number of dishes were poor, and value for money is questionable. Really really sad and disappointing as I had so much hope for this venue, and as you can see from my history and food gram, Iโve travelled to a lot of high quality restaurants yet very rarely leave negative feedback, such a shame. Other people have commented about the toilets. Yeah they were pretty poor and located right next to the kitchen. But I think the bigger focus needs to be in the delivery of the food and drink and timing.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food with a warm welcome
When we arrived at 5:00 I was surprised to find the restaurant was buzzing. Despite having time constraints we decided to take the 8 course taster. Everything was timed to perfection, with the food arriving at a pace however at no point did we feel rushed. The food was simply delicious from starter to dessert. Top marks for the food and also for the staff who, despite having a full restaurant, managed to provide friendly, professional service all the way through. Look forward to returning.
Be the first to ReplyTop notch food and drinks pairing
The tasting menu is incredible value at ยฃ45 for five courses, and a drink pairing option at ยฃ40. The food is mind blowing. They had their jerk fried chicken as a snack option on the day we went with their trademark chilli jam (that they also give you a pot of to take home at the end). Interesting and well executed cocktail menu. Really well thought out design, the restaurant itself is just lovely. Great value for money, canโt wait to return.

We visited to experience the tasting menu and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is a long, narrow building with limited seating. The staff are friendly, accommodating and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, with the Scotch Bonnet jam a winner. We paid the supplement for the jerk chicken and we were glad we did. I could not fault any of the dishes, it was so good we are looking to re-visit shortly with friends.
Be the first to ReplyDecent but food was not served hot.
This would have been a much better experience if the food was actually served hot. The ambience of the restaurant was a little too noisy and boisterous. Location was also a little far from central London. Otherwise, the food is quite delicious.
Be the first to ReplySensational 8-course tasting menu, reasonably priced!
We had an incredible experience eating at the restaurant. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu and each and every course was sensational. The staff were aware that we had to leave promptly to go to a show at Sadlerโs Wells and made sure that the courses came out swiftly without us feeling rushed. I had mentioned that we were celebrating my Dadโs birthday and we received a complimentary glass of fizz which was a lovely touch. I will most certainly be back! I couldnโt even pick a highlight from the food as everything (and I mean everything) was phenomenal - from the buttermilk fried chicken, to the brioche, to the cauliflower to the dessert- all 10/10! Thank you for a wonderful meal โบ๏ธ
Be the first to ReplySo disappointing, never again!
This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long while. The only passable bits were the bread at the beginning (thank goodness we got that to fill up on or I would have had to stop on the way home for another meal - the portions were incredibly stingy, I eat out in a lot of very good restaurants, and have never seen anything so mean), the teeny tiny cured sea trout tartlets and the mussels. The goat's cheese dish was overly salty and otherwise lacking in interesting flavours, the pork belly was so badly cooked as to be really fatty and inedible, so bad I wasn't sure I would be able to keep it down! I usually love pork belly, but this was terrible. The dessert was also unsubtle, too sweet - the caramelised white chocolate is something that should never be repeated, white chocolate is already very sweet, caramelising it is madness! Disappointed, to say the least. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone
Be the first to ReplyGreat food great service outstanding experience
Had the pleasure of the 8 course tasting menu last evening. Superb service and outstanding food. It was inventive and interesting food. The passion and care of everyone shines through. The focaccia is something else as is the pheasant and soup course. The cheese course with the doughnut was a fantastic ending. We turned up with a large suitcase in tow and nobody bats an eyelid and takes it from you as though itโs what everyone brings you know itโs going to be good It wasnโt good it was spectacular

Really enjoyable evening meal excellent steak good service on a very busy Saturday whilst staying at Tower Bridge Hilton
Be the first to ReplyDelicious but not sufficient
Food and wine was all delicious. However, we were disappointed that when we arrived our waitress and seated us on a high table despite having specifically booking a dining table due to back issues. The waitress did not have a lot of knowledge about the tasting menu and the wine pairings. I asked how something was cooked and she said she did not know but did not offer to find out from the chef. She was not able to answer any of our questions which is a shame as a tasting menu should be a learning experience. It would be helpful if the waiting staff had an opportunity to try some of the menu so that they could answer questions that may arise. We did leave hungry, the amount of food On each course was very small and when parings with wine, it wasnโt sufficient.

Perfect! Great food, wonderful staff and great ambience. Well priced and just lovely. It reminded us of when Anglo first opened and wasnโt trying to be too sustainable. We will be back!

Lovely flavours great food and attentive staff We visited on a Sunday afternoon - the weather was so hot so nice to see the front windows completely open into the street First we had fabulous cool cocktails and ordered a mix of veggie and meat starters - beautiful flavours! Recommend the crunchy chicken - spicy and mouth watering Large portions for the roast main and delicious We were too full for any desert Canโt wait to come back

Amazing experience. Great food, awesome menu with a very well suited pairing, nice place, vibe, and great (again) service. You can have an amazing culinary experience without the presomptuous enviroment that, sometimes, comes with it by default. Special thanks to the kitchen for the great work and Louie for making our experience complete. Mandatory visit if you are in London

Fantastic anniversary dinner. Our daughter had booked us the 8 course tasting menu and it did not disappoint. We also ordered the buttermilk chicken which I would highly recommend. Great staff and nice atmosphere in the place.
Be the first to ReplyA food sensory experience
This unpretentious looking restaurant in Islington was a food sensory experience. A 5 course taster menu serves up such delightful food which is pretty to look at, the aromas are enticing and the taste of each course just an explosion of flavours which are superbly balanced. The service was just right with a decent interval between courses. The staff were so pleasant and were a real enhancement to the establishment. I would highly recommend and can't wait to go back.
