Just to update on this, I went Cafe 53 again yesterday because it's conveniently downstairs, and it was a cold and rainy day. I did the usual salad bar and hot food, and went to pay for my lunch. The lady who rang me up asked if it is a take out, and when I said yes she immediately charged me the extra 0.25 to the total for the paper bag. I had to let her know I don't need the bag and would appreciate that she let me know there would be an extra charge. This behavior has not changed at all.

Food is a little pricey, but the customer service is satisfactory and the food is delicious!

I came in here one morning to grab something quick for breakfast. The sandwich line was really long so I took a glance at their hot bar. I saw pork dumplings and put 5 into a small plastic container. Five. FIVE. Upon heading to check out and pay they were deemed to be $10. These dumplings WERE NOT sized or weighing anywhere near being worth $2 each. The women at the register said they were heavy - yeah, heavy with thick skin and NOT with meat filling. The dumplings themselves tasted okay...okaaaaaay....but it was tough to get past how overpriced their hot bar apparently is. Person who paid after me had a small container with some cold fruit and was charged nearly $12 - unsurprisingly they were also shocked. Their breakfast sandwich and lunch sandwich menu seems decently priced for the area but their cold/hot bar is definitely not. I should have known better so shame on me, but I'll do my best to never eat here again soon.

Yum yum yum! When I have a conference in midtown this place never disappoints for a quick, fresh, & delicious meal on the go. I've had the hot bar, the cold bar, sushi, and sandwiches. So good'
Be the first to ReplyIt's the best food I've had in NYC.
100% would recommend! They have a great breakfast and lunch menu. I've never had their dinner, but I bet that is great too.

Tons of options with good bagels and cream cheese, hot bar, sandwiches, and even dumplings. Coffee was also really good. Service was very kind and patient. An easy stop for breakfast or lunch.

We walked to this restaurant and it was closed when yelp said it was open
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced as they prey on the two nearby hotels .
The front house staff are all wonderful. There are food handling issues behind the scenes . Still getting over case of food poisoning that I contracted there . Day 3 and just getting back on my feet . Do yourself a favor stay away there's much better food at 20% less to your pocket . I mean really 8.99 for a bag of Oreos ?
Be the first to ReplyVery clean 24-hour deli with many natural snack options.
There's a seating area in front. Credit card minimum is $6. Prices are higher than average, but that's to be expected for a midtown deli.
Be the first to ReplyA perfect place for a quick lunch.
Food is very fresh, hot and cold dishes, salads, fruit, tea and coffee. A small supermarket is there as well for chocolates, drinks etc. Only one washroom in the restaurant, but must ask the cashier for the key.

Be the first to ReplyThis place is DISGUSTING.
I went in with a family member who was recently in an accident. I asked if they could use the bathroom and was told we had to buy something. As I picked something out and stood in line, I asked again for the bathroom key. They said I couldn't have the key until I was finished paying, and made my family member stand there in pain while I waited in line.I asked to speak to the manager and told them I thought their policy was dehumanizing and they should've let my family member use the restroom while I stood in line to buy something. I set my phone on the counter while I spoke to the manager, and then heard one of the cashiers tell the other one to "push her phone off the counter"?!?! Then as we left, this same cashier said "screw you" and "go to hell" to me and my elderly family member. The manager did nothing. This place is disgusting, do not support them with your business.

My friend and I stopped in here for a lunch break during a conference in the Hilton Manhattan location that is right across the street. They have a large array of options from hot foods to cold food and snacks. My friend got her meal from the buffet and really enjoyed it. I ended up ordering a cheese burger and fries. It was tasty but not as favorable as I wish. Everything was pippin' hot on order. They originally messed up my burger but they were nice and remade it for me. Most of the employees are really nice while others not so much and are kind of rude.

Used to come here all the time due the fact that I work upstairs. However, I got tired of the negativity of the women that work the cash wrap there, and the fact they won't run a credit card for $5.79 (their minimum is $6). If they were good at customer service maybe they would have tried to upsell us larger coffees or something, instead of simply demanding cash. The 21cents seems pretty irrelevant considering my colleagues and I have all stopped going there. It's 2019 and you're next to a Starbucks...good luck!I should add that the gentlemen behind the counter are always so pleasant and nice.

At the sandwich and burger area, the cook uses the same glove and hand for raw burger and cooked foods. Cross contamination Other parts of the restaurant is fine.
