Very Festive Special Holiday Dinner
We came for the special Christmas eve prix fixe dinner. Lots of courses featuring lots of sea food in an Italian style. Very differenet from the regular menu, and that is why we came. Very festive holiday atmosphere. We enjoyed excellent professional and friendly service. Some of the dishes were not successes but most were very very good. However the cost was way up there. We knew it was going to be expensive, but this was very expensive. I think this is the way it is in the Bay Area now, and as a result, we think twice before we dine out.

The wood-fired pizzas are excellent here and they offer a good variety to cut up with the scissors they provide. Also great meals and sides but like most places now they can be rather pricey! Wine selection is good. Be aware that if offered sparkling or still water it will add $8 for each (unlike places that make their own sparkling water for free). Music was upbeat and fun and it pulls a nice crowd

Great food. Excellent pizzas, salads, and other appetizers. The fungi pizza is especially fabulous with a great oil to dip.
Be the first to ReplyDisorganized service & mediocre food
We were here on Christmas Eve for the feast of seven fishes dinner. First the waiter brought the wrong wine (blame the colorblind bartender :) . The wrong wine was comped then eventually the correct one was brought, then the order came in "out-of-order" and missing an obvious ingredient listed in the menu. At least we got all the items listed in the fixed menu unlike the next table who got served desserts missing 2 of the main courses before. Pasta was mediocre, potion was generous for fixed menu, pizza was decent - nothing memorable and certainly not a place I would take Italian guests to for "Italian" food. The waiter brought the wrong bill charging more than $400 in access then the "corrected" bill came where they added some more $$ than the price listed in the reservation which we paid anyway as a good gesture. The "to-go" bag they prepared was missing 2 dishes we hardly touched. 20% tip was automatically added to the bill so perhaps there was no incentive on attentive service or bringing all the correct dishes. I guess it's possible that they hired temporary staff and didn't have sufficient time to train them. Oh a very loud door alarm went off while we were dining.

We were lucky enough to be able to walk to dinner here so that makes have a glass of wine or two easier. We brought our own wine! The anti pastas were good as was the piazza. I even had room for dessert. Interesting ambiance.. very COVID observant!
Be the first to ReplyI am not a pizza eater, but this place was great.
I eat pizza about once every 2 or 3 years. It's not that I don't like pizza, it's just that I don't crave it. So when a friend suggested that we go here for dinner I was OK, but wasn't expecting much. What a pleasant surprise. The setting is fine, but nothing spectacular, but the pizzas were simply great. No wonder this place is so highly rated. I'd go back in a heartbeat...maybe even have pizza twice in a year!
Be the first to ReplyMemorable pizza; Outstanding wine list
We no longer are on a quest for the best pizza, there are so many good ones it seems ubiquitous. That said, I'll be thinking about the pizza at A16 for some time.
The wine list blew me away!! Reds from Basicalata in depth... have not seen that before.
Strongly advise a reservation
The place was packed!
Martinis and Negroni, perfect. Bartender, incredibly friendly, sorry I forget his name. Our dinner server was Jeff...with a cute dimple LOL!, PERFECT and PROFESSIONAL WITH A NICE PERSONALITY. Four diners ordered, deep fried olives, Burrata and crostini, and gem lettuces with watermelon radish. Vinaigrette was perfect, lightly dressed and not bitter. We we on a low carb diet, (LOL) so we ordered the fungi pizza and the deep-fried pizza with smoked tomato sauce. we ate it all, because it was awesome! One in our party lives half of the year in Sienna, Italy, and said that this is one of the best pizzas she's ever eaten. ALL WAS DELISH! Dessert... had the chocolate mousse, perfectly balanced, not too sweet.

- I should have been suspicious when our first few restaurant picks were booked solid, and this one had many open tables.
- The menu choices were extremely limited, comprising three entrees and three apps. There was also pizza. By comparison, the wine menu was several pages long.
- Our pasta dish was a bit undercooked, and was really nothing special. The other couple ordered a pizza which I just could not bring myself to sample, it looked that bad.
- And all items were overpriced to a severe degree. How fun!
- I think if you consider this a pricey wine bar, instead of a real restaurant, you will be less disappointed. Next time, we’ll give this place a hard pass.
Food is the miss
Great spot and love the a16 in SF. Service not great except wine guy who was fantastic. Wine was great, food not great, 2 mediocre pork chops and 2 pasta dishes that were not real good. Wine was great. Lost of money for average or below.

I continue to return to this restaurant in the hope it rebounds. Unfortunately I think this is not going to happen anytime soon.
The service was a its all-time worst. We literally sat for 30 minutes before we ordered a drink. There were major gaps in time prior to each step in the ordering and waiting process.
The wine list by the glass continues to be unimpressive. Just amazing with so many great wine in our backyard. The vodka choices were either lower end or they receive one hell of a deal on what they serve. Nothing you would normally order. Why make people try cutting edge vodka they've never heard of or cheap vodka?
Just make this simple. Nothing seems to be simple... Too bad.
Fisappointed
After so many positive recommendations, simply disappointing service and bland food. Pizzas are really overpriced for what you get.
Be the first to ReplyLovely and authentic dining
Terrific fried olives and carpaccio for a start. Nice seasonal pasta with pancetta and fava beans. Pasta was a bit too toothsome but very tasty and lovely flavor and I appreciated the seasonality. Delicious aperitivo . Good service throughout. Good place to have a business dinner, even though it is fairly packed and lively.
