Overall, nice atmosphere.
The cheese pizza was really tasty, the salmon was not. It was too salty and didn't taste fresh. There's no excuse to not know how to properly cook salmon, and how to season it well. Usually, salmon is one of the most frequently ordered entrees on any restaurant dinner menu. If it's not fresh, don't serve it. My husband is a retired chef, and he would never serve a salmon that didn't smell good. If frozen, it has to be thawed properly, and cooked immediately. Also, a simple taste test before serving it to a customer and smelling it for freshness would have been the chef's job before serving to a customer. I also had a cocktail which was small and expensive. It's an over-priced menu without the quality to make the expense worth the high cost.

Highlights include the melon salad, meatballs, fried olives (don't miss these), and pomodoro pizza. Ambiance is classy and romantic, great for a group dinner or date night. Outdoor seating also available (bring jackets).
Be the first to ReplyThe inside is pretty, open and big.
They have some outdoor seating as well. We came with no reservation on a Saturday evening and seated right away. We had pasta with beef short ribs, pasta with pancetta and salad. Salad tasted fine. The beef short ribs were good but unfortunately the pasta seemed liquidy and the pancetta was undercooked. It seemed more like German stroganoff vs and Italian pasta. It was not what we expected. They didn't charge us for the pasta with pancetta because my husband didn't eat it. Maybe we'll come back for the pizza. Service was friendly and attentive.

First time got the meatballs they are excellent the only standout. They undercooked the spring trout for me. Everything else wasn't terribly special. Funny enough it wasn't on the menu this time I went! The service wasn't great second time around she may have checked in on us 3-4 times over two hours. We had to keep asking for water. It really is just overpriced pizza at this place. Just go to Zachary's for pizza or Townhouse in emeryville for the same Italian ish type food that's 10x better. Ambiance is awful too, cramped as all heck and if you sit near the front door you will hear the door slam all night.

The restaurant is beautiful with great ambience and service was lovely. Food is a little bit on the more expensive side, but not out of the ordinary for the area with good portion size. We really loved the Pomodoro pizza with the addition of arugula on top, and it came with chili oil, which was excellent. The crust was fussy and delicious. The gnocchi was also really interesting and unique, but not as tasty as the pizza. The pasta itself was huge and fluffy, but I feel like the dish needed a little something else.
Be the first to ReplyA bit pricy, but sadly my pork chop was sub par.
It wasn't trimmed well (lots of fat), it was tough, and the steak knife was not sharp at all. It was cooked ok, but just not enjoyable to me. I was also a bit disappointed that they didn't have any gluten free pizza or pasta options. That didn't factor into my score, but I wanted readers to know.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service, terrible food and way too noisy.
The trout was over cooked and dry, the green vegetable with it was stringy/chewy and swimming in oil, the sugar snap pea side dish was awash in oil, the gnocchi was gluey. The little gem lettuce was not fresh and crisp. The noise level made comversation difficult. The only good dish was the meatball starter.

Margarita pizza with an egg is my gold standard item to order. It was more like pizza soup. Way too wet and kinda stingy on the basil and cheese, and they have the real deal wood oven? UGG!
Be the first to ReplyVery creative menu and delicious pizza.
The deep fried olives are good, the asparagus appetizer very good and the Nduja pizza was excellent. I'm not sure about the drinks, the Old Fashioned I ordered was nothing special.

Can't say enough good things. We tried 13 items on the menu and everything was delicious! The truffle arrancini is a must. Definitely save room for dessert too.
Be the first to ReplyThe pizza here is bananas.
Taste like Italy. They're pricey but worth it in my opinion. Always a great time.

I really don't post these kind of things often, but I felt like this was an example of when it's required. We started with the burrata and Brussels sprouts (very salty). For my main, I ordered the linguini (with the waiter recommendation). The pasta was sooo salty that it was inedible. Yes, they overdid it with the salt. When the waiter took my plate back, he mentioned that another table made the same complaint. The marinara pizza that he substituted with was 'ok' at best. Soggy and mostly flavorless. Will not come back and I can honestly say it's the worst meal I've had in oakland.

A16 is one of our new favorites in Oakland! With family in town we wanted to find a fun spot for some good Italian and this did not disappoint. First of all huge thank you for accommodating our 7 person party plus a baby in a car seat. The space is beautiful and intimate so fitting a larger group with a car seat was a big ask but I appreciate all of the staff that made it possible for us. We enjoyed a great bottle of red wine and cocktails. The menu was perfect for sharing - salads, pizzas and a whole trout dish. Service was attentive and welcoming. We were very well taken care of from the moment we walked in the door. Can't wait to come back to A16 for a date night and maybe even sit outside! Their parklet looks very inviting, well lit and heated. Thanks again A16!
Be the first to ReplyI would say it's okay.
Best thing there is their tiramisu. Pizza is average. Ambiance is great. One thing I really don't like is all the surcharges they add to the bill. Expect to pain way more than what you actually ordered. Some places are just squeezing the COVID BS surcharges and this place definitely wins number one in doing that.

It took me a while to write this because I didn't want to write it upset. The service here was absolutely awful. And I say that having been someone who worked in the industry and is used to being more on the patient end--out of empathy. But when I tell you the waitress was ducking and dodging our table, avoiding us like we were friends she was embarrassed to be seen with or something, it was ridiculous. Her other tables were so close to us and she would walk toward us and immediately switch directions to make small talk and ask about the other tables. Then my friend's lamb shank came out cold, mine being only slightly warm (but I had pasta so I didn't mind as much), and she didn't come to ask how things were not once. Not even when my friend asked another person to have her plate reheated. They proceeded to refire it, but at that point I was done and she didn't want it anymore. They never gave us an update after taking it away to let her know it had been refired and at that point another 10 mins had gone by. When she said she didn't want it, they gave her attitude, but thankfully took it off the bill. I feel a lot of this could have been avoided if they had communicated or if our waitress had checked on us at least once. She had no problem checking on the other tables. The food was okay. Nothing spectacular or worthy of rave. Maybe it would have a different rating if it came out at the right temperature. 1 star.

I don't like to write bad reviews but this place left a bitter taste in my mouth. We came here for a birthday celebration. I was directed to the back room when I entered the restaurant which they referred to as the 'private party room'. Having said that, the room was filled with a couple of large party tables and a few smaller tables. As the food and drinks came to every table, the noise level elevated in the room. We were all enjoying ourselves until the GM Gemma came to our table and told us we were too loud. I was shocked to hear that it was only addressed to our table as the large table next to us was just as loud if not louder. What's most upsetting is how the GM handled the situation. A good GM would assess the situation and resolve the issue instead of putting the blame on one party. Should one party in the room complained about the noise level, they should reseat them out in the main dining area. Instead, the GM sided with the 4 male that was sitting on the other side of the room and singled out our table of 7 females. Mine you that there was another table of 7 between our table and the table of 4 males. How could they be sure which table was making the most noise with over 24 guests in a small room? This definitely spoiled the birthday celebration for us. Overall, food is average(slightly salty for my taste) and portions are small for the price you pay. The only reason why I gave it a star was for the service from our awesome server Beatrice who was tentative and friendly. I feel sorry for the employees who have to work with Gemma who is unprofessional and rude. A GM is suppose to maintain order, making sure dinner service is smooth and resolve issues instead of creating them. With that being said, you will never earn my business again. I will caution my friends and family about how they treat their guests and run their business. Take your money elsewhere!

A group of friends and I, 7 in all, came for dinner to celebrate a birthday. This is our 2nd time at this establishment as our first visit was so enjoyable. We were sat in the back dining room with two or three other parties. We were having a great time enjoying our good food and wine then I noticed the room had gotten significantly louder after they sat another large party behind me. I'm talking roaring laughter and table banging. Not big deal, it was a small room with high ceilings so sound echoed, just people enjoying their Saturday evening. After finishing our 7 appetizers, 2 pizzas, 6 entrees and 3 bottles of wine, birthday girl was opening presents when a manager named Gemma approached me to tell me that she had gotten a complaint that our table was too loud. Taken aback, I responded that there were other groups in this room that were as loud, if not louder than us, to which she responded with, "they're loud, but not as loud as you guys are." and walked away. I felt like a student being reprimanded by a teacher. Obviously, this ruined our evening and while the food was delicious and our server, Beatrice, provided impeccable service, I left with a bitter taste in my mouth. I've worked at restaurants for a better part of my life and complaints come frequent and vary in situations. I don't understand how a MANAGER can handle the situation so poorly. If a table complains about noise, you offer to move them, a complementary glass of wine and/or dessert. You most definitely DO NOT tell your other patrons to quiet down unless someone was out of control screaming, which we were not. Perhaps because the complaining party was white, Gemma took their side and thought that the group of "passive Asian females" would just comply. Sorry honey, you thought wrong - not me and definitely not my friends. We love to eat and enjoy good wine but nothing this restaurant serves will ever be good enough for us to accept being treated as 2nd class citizens. We will not returning to this establishment and will be telling friends and family not to either.

Our server is doing her awesome job, 5 stars service . 0 star for the manager of the restaurant. It was 7 of us celebrating my bday having our fun time on a Saturday, and all of a sudden, the manager came over and talk to one of my friend and told us to quite down because someone in the room were complained about us being "too loud". There was another big group of parties, right next to us and 3 small tables are around the 2 big groups. So, the manager decided to just come to our table to be quiet and not go saying anything to the other big group since we are both big and "loud." You do not provide these kinds of 'racist customer service'. What a disappointed bday dinner for me.

Food: 4/5 stars Ambiance: 4/5 starsManagement: 0 stars We were having a lovely night celebrating a friend's bday dinner only until we were rudely interrupted by the manager, Gemma who told our group of Asian females that we were being overly loud while there were another large party sitting next to us as well as serval other groups in the room in the poorly soundproofed back dining room. Gemma could have handled the situation with more professionalism and tact. We felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome that we lost our appetites and left without ordering desserts. What a disappointment!
