Disappointing“Mexican” experience
Oh my, what a disappointment! As a Mexican who's lived in Toronto for over 20 years, I have to say this is one of the worst "Mexican" experiences I've had. It might pass as a generic Latin restaurant, but it falls far short of authentic Mexican cuisine. Let's start with the food. The guacamole was poorly balanced, overwhelmed by huge chunks of onion and cilantro, and lacked any salt. The "Steak Molcajete" was a misnomer – it had no steak, only grocery-bought chorizo (which curves when cooked, unlike house-made) and some bland shredded chicken. The carnitas tacos were equally flavorless, and oddly included cabbage. If you're looking for real Mexican salsa, you're out of luck – they only had pico de gallo and a sweet red sauce. And don't expect traditional drinks like horchata or jamaica. Unfortunately, the service was just as bad. From the unwelcoming hostess to the multiple servers who seemed indifferent as they switched shifts, it felt like no one cared. This place simply doesn't do justice to the vibrant flavors of Mexican food. Calling it a "Tequila Bar" might be more accurate.

Delicious! The guacamole made at the table, exquisite and the melted cheese with chorizo. The impeccable attention, the beautifully decorated place.

Great food, beautiful ambiance/decor, excellent service. Highly recommend! I had the table side guacamole and the scallops esquites. The house-made mayo was also incredible.

Our order arrived as follows. Shots. Tacos. Drinks. No one working cared. The tacos were dry. Like all of them. If you go, get the mushroom taco, otherwise load up on hot sauce. Great price but terrible product,
Be the first to ReplyAnejo was… Alright.
Husband and I dropped by Anejo on a busy Friday night and were seated quickly and comfortably. Something happened to our order in the kitchen so we waited a long time for food, but our server was stellar and both communicated the reason for the delay and kept checking in on us so at least we had drinks while we waited. My pork carnitas were a bit dry and my husband said his chili relleno was ok. But the tableside guacamole and chips was fabulous. The server came out with fresh ingredients including several avocado halves in a heavy mortar and literally crumbled up the avocado with two forks and mixed in the rest of the ingredients right in front of us. You can’t get much fresher than that! So, all in all, it was a nice venue with a great vibe, exciting location, fabulous outdoor patio seating, a great server, and amazing tableside guac and drinks. Mains were meh though. Not sure that we’d go back but if you’re going for drinks and apps, you can’t go wrong!

We liked the ambience but you pay for it: Molcajete de Carne ($31) more like sausage barbecue and Quesabirria with consome ($28). (It’s cheaper at Taco 101 in Kensington Market.) The difference is here, most tacos have cabbage, and/or assemble-yourself. Parking is not on King Street but a block North on Portland St. This is not accessible at all but popular, a bit loud under the booth, just opposite Michelin-winner Sara.
Be the first to ReplyMussels a surprise hit!
Looking for a patio lunch on a hot summer day at the Don Mills location, I wandered into Anejo for the first time. I highly recommend the mussels in a picante sauce topped with pico de gallo. These mussels were outstanding! Stir the generous portion of pico into the sauce as it bubbles piping hot in a stone bowl out of the oven. The cooking continues for at least ten minutes as the hot stone keeps the dish simmering and the pico gets incorporated into the sauce. They wisely serve these mussels with a big spoon and toasted bread because you will want every drop of that sauce. I don't like things that are overly spicy just for the sake of spice, but these were just the right level of picante. Tacos are not quite as good, missing some cilantro or pico, (extra charges). But service was lovely and the atmosphere on the covered patio safe from too much sun was just perfect.
Be the first to ReplyHappy Hour, great deal.
Happy Hour, love it, half price Margharita and Tacos, 3-5pm every day. A great deal!! Been twice in 2 weeks. Now my avid readers will know I am not a fan of "heat", looks like many others are also wary, server asks the question, with or without Jalapenos!! Very good start. So Jools had them on the side with sour cream (additional). Start with the Margharitas, classic, mango, strawberry and rubarb... I think I like Tequila!! Did try a watermelon with Mezcal, hmmm not sure, had a smokey aftertaste and just too sweet... Tacos, pulled pork and beef, braised mushrooms and fried fish, garnished with red cabbage and red onions. Excellent, fresh, tasty. Plus the very fresh Guacamole, mixed at the table with right amount of onions and tomato. Churro's 1st time little geasy and Nutella water (??), 2nd time spot on with a Nutella syrup, much better. Now I am going for 5 stars however a little bit more attn needed at the shift change, we lost our servers on both occasions and took a few minutes for the sub to get too us... however very pleasant experience. 4 cocktails, 3 tacos each and churros under $70 plus grats.

We got our drinks right away. The Sangria was extremely sweet, not too much of anything else in it. It took forever to get our nachos and guacamole. They tasted good. Our main course was satisfactory. Pollo and carne served with veggies and refried beans. Have had much better Mexican food elsewhere in the city. The service was not good. Our waiter had no time for us. Will not be coming back. So many other places in the area that are much better.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and food, will surely go back
Went for a business lunch for first time and really enjoyed the service and the food. The best guacamole , also the cocktails and the mussels, shrimp tacos

Excellent food and service. The wait was long but it totally is worth it! Try their authentic tacos and you won’t regret it!
Be the first to ReplyFresh Guac, Great service!
Recently stopped for happy hour at Añejo’s on King Street in Toronto. Loved the fresh guac made at the table by our server, Natalia. But what I really appreciated was her service above and beyond expectations. One of our guests has health issues and was very particular about what she could order. Natalia was not only patient and informed, but also made sure to double check with the kitchen. Later, she assured us that it was no problem at all, they were used to accommodating people’s needs, and just wanted us to enjoy the experience. We did. Fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. We enjoyed our experience and would definitely go back!

I had the pleasure of visiting the new Don Mills location shortly after it’s opening. Absolutely loved the food and the service was very attentive. Friends enjoyed a great variety of tequilas and we took advantage of their 50% off happy hour. The general manager, Janice, even came to ensure we were all happy. We will definitely be returning!!! Be the first to ReplyFabulous from beginning to end!!
Had lunch here today with my husband and son in law. We’ve been waiting to come here since Anejo opened in January 2020. Unfortunately lockdowns and not living in Toronto, made it challenging. But today we made it and it was worth the wait!! Our server Emily was friendly, attentive and bubbly! We shared the guacamole and chips, mushroom flautas, fish tacos and molcajete de carne. Margaritas included the cucumber with cilantro and blood orange. And Mezcal was also sampled. Food was all fresh, hot (were applicable) and delicious!!! Thank you Anejo for a wonderful dining experience!!
Be the first to ReplyMust go location for all Taco and Tequila lovers!
Located in the basement of a building this beautiful cozy restaurant was amazing! I hade the 5 salsas as an app and it was fresh and yummy! Then I tried two types of tacos and they were delicious! And in between all of this, I was able to try some tequila from there vast drink menu. The staff were friendly and helpful all night. In all, I recommend this place 100%. A+
Be the first to ReplyFun & flavourful!
We had a lovely Friday evening on their patio. The margaritas were all subtle in flavour and definitely enjoyed. Our group tried the guacamole to start, then salmon, fish tacos & stuffed poblanos. Everything tasted good and were perfect for a casual evening. We finished by sampling a few desserts. The chocolate was the favourite by far. The staff were helpful and more than willing to make suggestion and accommodate any needs.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, service and amazing food!
We luckily happened upon the restaurant and were so pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere, service was great, and the food was amazing. Great overall, highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t even bother
I realize that I may be a little biased because I lived in Mexico City for years, but this was the least flavourful food I have ever tasted. No salsas, guacamole prepared una molcajetero but with a fork (it’s supposed to be done with a pestle). Corn tortillas are not really corn, aguachile was a salad (wtf?) and churros were raw on the inside. And don’t give me mayo for my tacos… that isn’t Mexican or Tex mex. only 1/4 shot of booze in the margaritas. Truly less than mediocre.
