Extremely disappointing for a special occasion
Went for the Be Our Guest Afternoon Tea. Seated in the restaurant which had a harpist playing music through out our tea, which is a nice touch. We requested the champagne option, this was poured from a mixture of two bottles so was not bubbly as it should be served. Then served an amuse-bouche, this was two juices poured out of two tea pots, the server did not cope well pouring these together and some spilt onto the floor. The open sandwiches and finger sandwiches were served to each and were fine to eat although not overly tasty. These plates were cleared and a lychee sorbet served, by now far to many cups and saucers on the small table the three of us were seated at. The sweet selection was served on a cake stand, although these looked quite nice none were overly tasty. During us eating these another cup was put on the table with dry ice and liquid poured into which gives a 'magical display' as the server slopped this and poured much in the cup, the table was covered by mist and we could not see what we had on our plates, all very embarrassing, as this was not done for all the guests having this afternoon tea. After finishing our tea we paid and left. Not the best tasting food and a pour sloppy service. Most disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyPoor Afternoon Tea Experience
Friend and I went for afternoon tea this weekend. Weare 'experienced' afternoon tea goers at various London hotels (Ritz, Claridges, Dorchester, Savoy, Lanesborough, Berkeley) and have had tea at the Waldorf pre Covid. We were looking forward to it but were really disappointed. We were led through the main Homage seating area to a separate area which had not been set up for the correct number of people booked in. At least one table had to be hurtiedly carried over our heads and 'dressed '. The seats in our area were not the same as in the main restaurant but were badly stained and smelled damp. Our table had a broken metal band around the top, protuding through the table cloth. Other furniture not being used was on the lower level, just covered in protective cloths. It was a very 'unusual' setting for an afternoon tea. The actual tea itself bore no resemblance to that offered on the website. We had said no smoked salmon but expected a selection of the other sandwiches (cheddar & plum tomatoes, Coronation chicken, cucumber & cream fraiche, ham and mustard.). Instead we only had three sandwiches each, all containing tomato (ham and tomato, cream cheese and tomato, pesto and sundried tomato). The savouries usually served were also noticeably absent. There was no offer of a refill on the tea and we only received one cursory check up visit from the staff. As regards the scones, we had one that I wouldn't have served even to my family. It had 'collapsed' during baking and was flat. Easy to see why the Waldorf is now only a 4* hotel based on the tea offered.

I have used this hotel for years and the restaurant has gone through many phases but I was unable to get a table despite residency. Earlier attempts to book for afternoon tea failed but I tried the day before and secured a booking..Sadly , since our recent previous visits the content and quality of the tea has reduced dramatically. Three finger sandwiches, the expected scones jam and cream and just three cakes. A macaroon, jam multi tiered sandwich and a jammy cake with monstrous turquoise icing. Memories of open beef and salmon treats and a fruit jelly became a distant memory as was the offers of more sandwiches and tea. Wonderful live harp playing but overall a great disappointment. Hopefully they’ll up their game for the current austere one reminds me of the last days of THF. YOU only need to disappoint once to kill repeat bookings yet the savings made by the reduced offering cannot be huge. Hotel overall is good as are most staff.

Arrived at the Hotel and was met by Katie who was very pleasant and helpful. The sandwich menu was limited and my wife asked for ham and tomato without mustard which Katie ask the chef for. Whilst waiting we noticed how cold it was in the restaurant and this was felt by the Harpist who was even blowing on her hands to warm them up. The food was presentable when it was served but the ham sandwich was tasteless because a cheap processed ham was evident, this was not expected from an iconic establishment as the Waldorf. This along with the cold temperature was explained to the manageress who apologised. We decided to finish our drinks in the bar which was a little warmer. This was a disappointing experience.

We had a lovely afternoon tea at the Waldorf. The staff and food was great. My sister has recently become lactose intolerant, but failed to tell me so I couldn’t inform the Waldorf of this. However when we got there and told them, they were brilliant and made sure her food was separate and even made her scones fresh. They taken it all in their stride. The staff were lovely, we had the cocktail afternoon tea and that was an experience. We weren’t rushed at all and the whole experience was great.

Enjoyed afternoon tea in luxury surroundings - the food was very good and the English sparkling very tasty - enjoyed the harp playing in the background - Didn't realise we had booked through a third party web site so some confusion of what was included on our part.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Afternoon Tea at the Wardorf
What an amazing afternoon having Afternoon Tea at the Wardorf celebrating my Friends 60th birthday. We were so spoilt by Sophie who was outstanding, warm, friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. The sandwiches were so nice that we ordered more and did struggle to eat all the cakes but my friend had some and said they were delicious. We were given nice boxes to take the rest with us. There was such a lovely ambience and they brought a glass teapot over with ice in it and made it dry ice smoking across the table, it looked so amazing and such a nice touch. Will definitely be going back as it truly was the best.

Thank you so much for today , everybody really enjoyed it ♥️. The food and hospitality was above and beyond. You two guys are an inspiration and I feel that communities really needs people like you around. Facilitating peoples dreams / happy times is a tall order but you nail it ♥️. Your business model sells , your passion touches hearts The food is hand made , we had 2 x fussy teenagers and there tastes was kindly catered for and v much appreciated. This afternoon tea is one of abundance and you will deffo need the take home containers for a midnight snack if you can squeeze it in 🌻.
Be the first to ReplyNice but not Great
We were two couples for the Afternoon tea , it was a very early afternoon tea because we had to be somewhere else, so it was very quite in the dining room and so had little atmosphere, but live music was there which was nice. The tea , sandwiches and cakes were ok and the service was good. But for what it was , not good value for money. We have been a few times before and it has been better, not sure if we would go back again.

The atmosphere was great. They had a cutout of the Queen and her Corgis for pictures and trained waitpersons to take your picture, the house blend tea was fantastic.

Afternoon tea on a Friday afternoon. There was a harpist who as we are Welsh we asked her to play a Welsh song. She played about six in a row which was lovely. Nice to have music playing gently in the background. Waiting staff were excellent. They aim to please and make your stay really special. I like weak tea and was happy with an extra pot of hot water to dilute it but the lovely man insisted he got the tea just right for me. And he did. The young man serving us the champagne to start was so funny explaining about the champagne. Nice start to the tea. Room was so pretty as decorated for the Jubilee. I had requested plain sandwiches and got them. You have to request when you book as they cannot do them to request on the day. I do not like fancy cakes but my friends said they were delicious. I did have three scones though. We ordered more champagne which at £10 a glass was reasonable for London. We were there from 1pm until 4pm. It was a very relaxing chilled out experience. It was so peaceful in the room you would never think you were in busy London. I have had tea at the Ritz and although had a lovely time there would not go again but would come back to the Waldorf again and again

We had a wonderful Winter Wonderland afternoon tea yesterday. We were very well looked after by an attentive host who explained how the tea worked and the various options. Service was quick but we didn’t feel rushed. We were even given a box to take home the lovely cake we just couldn’t manage as we were so full. We were seated in the Palm Court and with a harpist playing beautiful music in the background it felt truly magical.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Went for afternoon tea with friends. From booking to sitting the menu had changed to ‘winter wonderland’. This is pretty lazy at the beginning of autumn while it’s still bright sunshine and warm out. By comparison to other London establishments offering similar service, the food was lacking. No replenishments offered. The quality of sandwiches was ok. The cake selection was very good. Now, mistakes happen. So when one of our group was served fish instead of vegetarian (placed in front of them as the vegetarian option) it is an honest mistake. We pointed this out, apologies were made and a replacement brought quickly. That the replacement contained shellfish either means the chef doesn’t understand what a vegetarian menu means or they are so complacent that they just don’t care. Quite scary given the recent news stories about allergies. We were offered an extra glass of champagne by way of apology. (We ended up ordering more champagne and were charged for the free flowing rate so even that wasn’t really given to us) Overall a lovely venue, the waitress was delightful and the harpist created an elegant ambiance. Other venues offer a much better service and value for a similar price.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Treat for Teens
I love visiting the Waldorf. The building itself is wonderful and the team are a credit to it's reputation. Sublime cocktails and a delightful afternoon tea for us and two newly teens. Thank you - see you again soon.
Be the first to ReplyNot as nice as hoped
I don’t think this was worth the money. The sandwiches were very good but they will charge £10 you if you want extras (we just wanted more chicken Caesar sandwiches but they would only do an extra plate). Cakes were ok pina colada was the best taste but all look pretty. Scones fairly standard with a choice of apricot or strawberry jam with clotted cream. Decor was nice enough maybe a bit dark. Service was hit and miss, our waiter forgot our water and didn’t explain what the sandwiches were but the lady who delivered our cakes was fantastic. I wouldn’t go back as I thought it was just a bit average.
Be the first to ReplyVery Good Afternoon Tea but not Outstanding
There were 6 adults celebrating my wife’s birthday and we all enjoyed ourselves. On the positive side it was excellent service and an extra bottle of Prosecco was provided free of charge which was very kind. It was great to have a choice of jams and the sandwiches and patisseries were great. Slight negatives was that the fruit scones contained very little fruit and the clotted cream was a very small portion.

This afternoon tea was to celebrate my Mum's 80th Birthday and it was a lovely experience. The waiter provided exceptional service. He was attentive, polite and gave an excellent narrative of the food provided. There was a huge variety of teas on offer and the food was delicious. The music created a lovely ambience. This is the best afternoon tea I have ever had and I highly recommend it!
