Exceptional and warm service, coupled with delectable cuisine, makes this establishment one of my preferred dining spots in Toronto. The attentive staff consistently ensures a delightful experience, and the culinary offerings are simply exquisite. The inviting atmosphere and impeccable ambiance contribute to an overall perfect dining setting. This restaurant undoubtedly stands out as a top choice for those seeking a memorable and enjoyable meal in the heart of Toronto. My 3 go-tos are tuna/truffle pizza, mushroom toban and wagyu fried rice. These 3 are a must!!

The food was okay , but the price was outrageous and the serving sizes were very small, I spent $150 usd and we were still so hungry after. The best part of this place is the service which was friendly. I would not return again just due to the price to food ratio which is just too small.

Food - 5/5 Drinks - 4/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Service - 2/5 My husband and I went for NYE. Upon arriving, I loved the feel of the place. It was dark and moody and perfect for a date night. It was a set menu of 4 courses, first 2 courses were preset and you can choose you main entree and dessert. All the food was delicious. Our favorites being the mushroom/tuna pizza, the scallops and the desserts. We both ordered 2 cocktails as well and they were all delicious and had great presentation. Now as for service, maybe it was NYE or maybe he was having a bad day. But the moment we sat down and was greeted by him, it just made for an unpleasant experience. I felt rushed through the dinner and when we wanted to order another round of drinks, he seemed annoyed. The other interactions by the table clearers and the other staff was very pleasant though so I can bring that up to 3/5 stars. Overall, a nice experience but I do think service is important especially at that price point. So I have to dock off a point for that one.

I still have dreams about their cucumber salad and specialty cocktails. Sushi was also great and I loved dining at the bar.

The service was excellent! The ambiance is trendy and classy, great for special occasions. The food was good too but not memorable for me, therefore didn't give it a higher rating. Further, the portions were small and pricey. That said, each item I had were delicious when I had it, particularly the Wagyu short ribs, but not impressive enough I would return.

The decor is beautiful and the staff is very nice. We were told you're meant to share a few dishes so we ordered several options from each section of the menu. Since I don't eat fish, I just nibbled on a few things. The standout was the tacos but they're very small. I really liked them though. The crispy octopus was good but the portion was very small given the price point. The potato purée texture was a little off but the sauces were delicious and the batter was light and crispy. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a bite of matcha cake which was nice of them. The server was really nice but my water sat empty for a while here and there. The only other thing to note is that portions are pretty small.

Excellent service, astounding aesthetic design along with an impeccable dinner. Came to celebrate my birthday here and since we were staying at the Bisha Hotel for the night, the hubs made reservations here for a Thursday night. As soon as we arrived for our reservation, the host was very accommodating and seated us right away. We started with the sushi pizza and it was to die for, fresh tuna on unique but super yummy crust. Sashimi was very fresh, and also ordered tuna rolls which were good but not as memorable as their other dishes. We loved the miso cod, super tender and perfectly cooked and prepared along with beet foam. The garlic wagyu steak sizzled its way to our tummies and loved everyboujce of their deliciousness in its sizzling garlic marinade on a hot wooden dish. Will definitely have to come back next time we're in TO!

A bit of a young crowd and loud but the food was excellent and fun. Wagyu tacos were awesome. Yellowtail Serrano was also excellent. Would go back.
Be the first to ReplyA very interesting and tasty meal.
I was staying at the adjacent hotel and the front desk convinced me to visit Akira Back. Definitely a good choice. They presented the food brilliantly and there were many great dishes. I had the surprise box, pretty much a tasting menu of 9 dishes. There was not one dish I did not enjoy and again brilliant presentation, it came "smoking" and the effect was really entertaining. I also ordered the tuna tartare which i would recommend with a caveat, the tuna comes with multiple accompaniments and you mix them together, I would have preferred if the waiter did it as I found it was challenging with chop sticks. While the surprise box in and of itself was enough for a meal, I couldn't get enough of all the flavours and ordered the miso eggplant (arguably for dessert) and it was also great. Fantastic flavour. Thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Be the first to ReplyHard not to love this place.
A fusion of quality, Japanese, and experimentation. Was lucky enough to almost try the entire menu. My favourite dish (other than the amazing sashimi) ended up being their "pizza."Service bombed, however.
Food was not filling.
Dishes were not worth the price it was for. Great menu items and had a lot of potential but was poorly executed. Would not come back. Interior design was very beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service with a cool look.
I had a party we came here for with some friends. The service was excellent. The food was very good with only 2 plates i didn't love out of the entire meal. The sauces were exceptional and made the dishes memorable. Definitely will be trying it on a regular experience vs a large party. I would give it a 4.5/5 based on the group experience.

Ambience setting and atmosphere. Delicious, high quality food! Really love this restaurant. My top 3 go to are tuna pizza, mushroom toban and wagyu fried rice.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing dining experience.
Tried some of the best food I've ever had in my life. God only knows how they made my dessert because it was so beautiful. Waiter was kind, knowledgeable, and funny. It had a perfect night ambiance with modern designs inside.

Akira Back exudes an upscale air - there are swanky booths and tables on the sides, and we were seated in the centre. It was pretty dark, but not bothersome. We were undecided on the mushroom and tuna pizza so opted for half and half. We devoured it in no time, and had to order a second round because it was so good! I highly recommend doing the half and half to start. The yellowtail Serrano was also another favourite. Really tasty, and full of flavour. I also loved the AB Wagyu tacos. The meat was flavourful and the taco shell delightfully crispy. I love uni, so I was pretty excited to try the Triple Uni. It didn't disappoint. The rolls were also great choices and super tasty. Can't go wrong with either of them.Pretty much everything we ordered was delicious; however, the only mediocre dish we could do without was the baked crab hand roll. The Nori cone we had for dessert was also good!I would absolutely return to Akira Back. The atmosphere is nice, the food is amazing, and even the plates are gorgeous.

This sleek Japanese spot makes for a good date night or business dinner spot; unfortunately today was the latter so I didn't manage to snag any pictures. However, the food was pretty consistently good, with decent variety on the menu and some punch in every bite. Service was attentive and our server was very knowledgeable of the menu, guiding us through everything without having to write anything down, but I didn't love that other servers would interrupt us mid convo to ask for our attention, just to announce whatever generic roll they had for us. The food itself was solid, maybe a bit too much emphasis on the sauces rather than the proteins for my taste, but that being said all the courses were solid. It's a definitely a bit overpriced for what it is, but you won't dislike any of the food they serve you. It helps to ask the server for their recommendations, but my favourite bites (emphasis on the word bites) were the wagyu tacos, crispy rice, and king crab fried rice.
Be the first to ReplyUnique rolls and sashimi selection.
Creative display. Good wine and cocktail selection.Tuna pizza and beef taco a must try. Rock shrimp and black cod was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyWe were looking to celebrate our anniversary and we were
We were looking to celebrate our anniversary and we were thinking we wanted some high-end sushi, so a little research pointed us in the direction of Akira Back.We showed up right on time for our 7:00 reservation and were shown to a nice table in the middle of the restaurant. I was immediately impressed by the dimly-lit, artfully-designed dining room.(I wasn't quite as impressed by the calibre of the other patrons, though. It felt like we were surrounded by dolled-up influencers and obnoxious businessmen. The food was excellent, yes, but the place seems to be catering to the wrong type of crowd.)We decided to share a few different things. From the Cold Share side of the menu, we got White Fish Carpaccio ("gooseberry / nanbanzu") and Hokkaido Scallop Kiwi ("onion salsa / truffle paste / yuzu soy"). Both of these dishes are excellent. The Hokkaido Scallop Kiwi is especially mind-blowing, as it's full of flavor and somehow manages to incorporate kiwi into a scallop dish. It's really terrific. Our only pick from the Hot Share section was the AB Wagyu Tacos ("bulgogi sauce / tomato ponzu") and holy moly did I enjoy the heck out of these. The very tasty ground beef was enhanced by the bulgogi sauce and tomato ponzu, and honestly I could've eaten about a dozen of these things. Finally, we decided to order a couple of rolls from the Akira's Signature Rolls section: Hot Mess ("sashimi poke / screaming o' sauce") and Show Me the Roll ("shrimp tempura / salmon belly aburi / chipotle sauce"). I really enjoyed both of these rolls. They had traditional elements but also felt completely original and innovative, which I definitely appreciated. Really top-notch stuff.(I do want to note that all of our dishes were brought out super quickly, to the point where we were finished eating less than a half hour after we ordered. It felt very off-putting, and I couldn't help but wonder if we were being rushed so they could turn over the table.)We closed out the meal with the Chocolate in a Cup ("nutella chocolate cake / vanilla ice cream / banana foam") and this turned out to be the weakest part of the meal. The chocolate cake was unevenly heated, as though it had been microwaved, and the icy, far-from-smooth ice cream was too firm to really enjoy. Honestly, this tasted like something a young child would make for you at home. All in all, I did enjoy my meal at Akira Back, but considering we spent well over $200, I do wish that certain things had been improved. (Again, why was our food rushed out to us?)
Be the first to ReplyI had very high expectations coming into this and Akira
I had very high expectations coming into this and Akira Back is a highly acclaimed in Toronto known for being one of the best restaurants in the city. To my surprise everything tasted just ... okay. At this price range I expect all the flavours and texture of the dishes to sing in harmony and blend well, which wasn't the case for everything. The highly will definitely be the mushroom pizza which was absolutely chef's kiss which started on a high note. We got the appetizer bento because we wanted to try a little bit of everything but thankfully we got this instead of ordering individually because not everything tasted amazing. Their sushi selection was just sad, the one we had was doused in sauce and I would've honestly enjoyed a local sushi takeout restaurant instead. The service was great and our server would regularly check in on us and refill our water. I really wanted to like this place and I don't think I will be coming back.

Absolutely love the food! Nazo 9 was delicious from the first bite to the last! Service was outstanding and the manager was welcoming. Would definitely come back in my next visit to Toronto!!!

The interior decor is definitely top notch and the ICONIC golden staircase. We came for a couple drinks and appies. However nicely plated their dishes were, we found majority to be quite greasy. We had the TUNA & MUSHROOM PIZZA (mushroom was my favourite of the two) and the WAGYU TACOS (just OK).
Be the first to ReplyLet me start off by saying I didn't know there was a dress
Let me start off by saying I didn't know there was a dress code going into restaurants next time i travel on vacation i will make sure to pack a suit. Because I started a timer for 10minutes and by the time there was 30seconds before I leave I was finally attended to and served water then ignored as I said I was ready to order. 7 minutes later I was finally asked what to order. At that point I've already consumed enough air to fill my stomach. The food is what's carrying the stars on this review as the food was amazing. The 48 Hour short rib was juicy and not dry. You can taste the chef's hardwork on the 'Brother from another mother' roll. As much as the food was spectacular the service was the one of the worse I've received especially in such a hot weather with the restaurant 1/3 full. I seen people who came after me in a party of 8 get served before my food came. I normally tip generously about 25% when I'm on vacation but even sitting at the bar none of the staff wanted to engage in conversation of any sort. If you're coming here I sugguest not wearing comfortable clothing like sweatpants because you will most likely not be served.

I guess it's nice to try it once to say you've tried it but definitely not worth the monies when there are so many other options with a smaller price tag for items you can probably create at home. Bragging rights to say you ate at a Michelin Restaurant. Try these: White Fish Carpaccio: nothing memorable but good in terms of flavour. Very tangy on the paletteCrispy Rice: this was my personal favorite. I found it to be quite enjoyable and pleasant Octopus Crudo: very interesting flavour concept. The portion was kinda depressing.Pass on These: AB Wangu Tacos: absolute trash. These are an extreme example of what depression tastes like in a fancy restaurant. They tasted like nothing. Even the off the box grocery store option was better. No one in my group enjoyed these. Tuna/mushroom pizza: literally a thin piece of tuna or mushroom on a cracker base. Pop Rockin: DO NOT GET. It is a literally something you can make with maybe $5 worth of groceries. Minus the fact that it was imitation crab and not the real thing, I was extremely upset with how soggy and underwhelming it actually was. Lamb Chops: red masala sauce?! I was slightly confused with the concept of this. The desserts were alright. My favorite was the cappuccino when it was all over. The service was nice but I expected nothing less considering the cost of eating here.

I visited here and was quite disappointed based on all the reviews I saw and the photos of the food I wanted to try. Some of the things I tried were the following:Cucumber salad - 8/10 refreshing and light definitely of course overpriced for what it is Crispy rice starter - 7/10 you don't taste much of the fresh fish because the sauce and the crispy rice overpowers itSalmon tataki - 5/10 the server highly recommended this but this was one of my least favourite dishes. The wasabi was over powering and I couldn't taste anything else other than their thick cream wasabi sauce they used as the base instead of a light ponzu Yellow tail carpaccio - 8/10 it was fresh had good balance of texture and could taste the freshness of the fish. I always love a bit of jalapeno with fresh sushi Japanese pizza - 8/10 this was unique and definitely worth a try Toro with caviar - 9/10 my favourite dish I think this would have been 10/10 if it had a little bit of uni on topWagyu tacos - 9/10 loved this and recommend you give this a try everyone at our table did love thisToro tare tare with caviar - 7/10 the presentation was amazing but the waiter could have explained to our table that we had to prepare the tare tare ourselves because some of us thought we were suppose to eat it caviar service style instead the way it was presented. Until some of my friends said they think we're suppose to prepare the tare tare ourselves. For a dish that cost $180 I think the waiters should make the effort to simply just explain what is presented in front of us. Overall the service was ok but definitely not great for the high end aspect of this restaursnt especially for the prices they are charging they should have better customer service. This is not a place I would come back to when I visit toronto I've had better sushi and service at some places in Calgary such as maruju.
