We were lucky to get some last minute reservations, and lucky to be able to afford them… Visiting Alchemist is certainly a privilege for the few; both as it is nearly impossible to get a reservation, and as it costs in the range of a family holiday in Spain. That’s why I was a bit surprised when we were asked upon arrival if we would like a cocktail (which was clearly not included in the price…)? I would very strongly prefer to pay just that little bit more up front, and the not be reminded more about money on such an extraordinary evening!! I know that you must chose if you would like wine, which wine, which wine pariring package etc – that is of course unavoidable; but apart from that, I highly recommend Alchemist to provide an ‘all inclusive’ experience. A small additional hiccup is that you cannot chose ½ a wine menu. We are actually many who would like just a sip of the wine for the experience, but who do not tolerate a whole wine menu. If you chose ½ wine menu, you must pay 50% more, I cannot understand why? The rest is history - the food, the show etc. You could argue that at times the symbolism is just too thick at Alchemist. I would like to make another point about the costs, as the story repeated itself later. We had coffee and tea and had to pay extra for that as well. I wanted to taste the tea that my son got, as I thought there was more in the teapot; however, an extra 100 DKK was added to the bill. That is, indeed, a drop in the sea; but the waiter should have told us, and it was just not nice. I was not very impressed by our southern Italian female waiter. Other personnel that we met were highly professional, and it was of course a privilege to chat with Chef Rasmus Munk himself on the occasions where he showed up at our table Hats off for Alchemist, but I would prefer to pay just a little more up front, and then be confronted with as few as possible additional costs during the evening.
