Alimento Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Incredible meal.
I didn't know it was DineLA but I ended up ordering the 4-course special and each course was strong, delicious and vibrant. Started w crudo w eggplant - smoky fluffy perfect pieces of crudo mixed w the perfect herbs and sauce. Then had the lamb belly, (similar to pork belly) that hit all the senses - fat, salt, acid, umami. Followed by the fusilli w clams which was perfectly al dente and seasoned. Almond mascarpone cake with need the gorgeous meal. It was too much food for one person but I'm not complaining. Had an amazing orange wine. Friendly staff. Chic and modern room - no fuss, no pretense, no scene, just absolutely amazing food and overall experience. PS. I also love thru wknd brunch and their braised lettuce bruschetta.

The food is good, but not good enough for the prices to be as high as they are. The service was good and I would come back if I wanted to take people from out of town somewhere nice, but there are cheaper places with the same or better quality of food in LA for sure.
Service was still great but my friend and I got sick last
Service was still great but my friend and I got sick last Saturday night. He had diarrhea and I threw up all night. Wish I remembered the names of what we got but we did get the scallop crudo, another appetizer with bread and spread with uni on top and 2 pastas (one was orangish and the other a soup dumpling type). All our dishes might be the same as my last review. Sorry.
Best pasta I've ever had! The radiatore is simply divine.
Could max out at three bowls, but usually stick to one of my own, plus some bread. The Caesar is deliciously creamy and bitter. Beautiful, modern surrounds, and service is great! Everyone's really nice and helpful.
I gathered up a list of Italian places to try with a friend
I gathered up a list of Italian places to try with a friend who would be moving away from L.A. soon, and one of them was Alimento. Note to self: Trust your instincts and never refer to those "Essential Restaurants" lists on Eater. Alimento, which was included as one of the city's "Essential Italian Restaurants" was a dud. My friend repeatedly said, during the meal and every time she referred to it afterward, that it "wasn't Italian." I can't really argue with her. It's more California cuisine with Italian inspiration. I supposed the saffron risotto tots are mean to be a take on Roman supplì, but why not call them "supplì"? The chopped salad's flavors were off-balance, nowhere near as good as the city's best versions from Donna's or Mozza -- or even from Pitfire Pizza. The carne cruda was fine, but it was fundamentally a French dish (steak tartare) rather than the distinctly Italian one (carpaccio, a very different dish). The same goes for the albacore crudo, which belonged in a sushi bar, not an Italian joint. My friend's fusilli with clams had a strange flavor she couldn't stop commenting on; to me, it tasted faintly of barbecue sauce. The one dish that was a runaway success was the gnocchi ("Gnòc") with oxtail. It converted the former vegetarian who is still squeamish about odd meat cuts into an oxtail fan, though we weren't sure why it was served on a bed of mashed potatoes other than to pad out the dish with starch. (Also, it was blown away by a much better, potato-free version we had a couple of weeks later at The Factory Kitchen.) The sodden polenta cake dessert was pretty much an unmitigated failure. It was when I heard one of the half-dozen different servers who came to our table mention "our sister restaurant Cosa Buona" that I fully realized the scope of my error in choosing Alimento. Cosa Buona was a disappointment as a casual pizzeria, and Alimento is similarly disappointing as Italian fine dining. Beyond the poorly executed food, service was not to par with the prices. We didn't have one server who took care of us but rather a rotating cast of guest stars attending to us with varying degrees of attention; this likely explains why my order of lamb agnolotti never materialized. Oddly enough, the only person who was a regular was our backserver. My friend, who has worked in the restaurant industry, was increasingly peeved with the service, so when the check arrived along with dessert, she was fit to be tied. The atmosphere was not what high-end either, being much more Sizzler than Spago: At the table behind us, one kindergarten-aged girl watched cartoons on a tablet during the entire meal. At the table beside us, the antsy, quite voluble party of six played musical chairs every five minutes. I took my friend to The Factory Kitchen a few days before she moved in part because I didn't want Alimento to be the last meal we had together in L.A. It was not a very good meal -- although the oxtail gnocchi did give us one "except for that..." grace note. Is it an "Essential Italian Restaurant"? Good God, no. And this review will stand as a reminder to myself to do better research in the future -- using Yelp, not Eater.

First time at this Restaurant; Now the 4 stars is for the food, not for the service. I would given the service 2.1 stars. First the food; delicious! , but small portions. The Service an entirely different story. We had a reservation for the patio. Our table was not ready once we arrived. Waited 15 to have the table prepared. We had two options for two different tables. The one we decided was in the corner with a broken table. It took 20 minutes to get an none broken table. The first waitress ( had to wait 15 minutes) was super friendly and helped us decide on what to order. However, that was the final time we saw the staff. The food is not Italian . It's Mediterranean inspired with Italian influence. The food is delicious, but small portions..Definitely not full for spending $100.00 The ambiance could be very romantic if thought was put into it.
Our dinner at Alimento was quite enjoyable.
We were a party of four so we decided to try some of everything on the menu. To start we had the following. 1. Chicken Liver Crostone 2. Carne Cruda ( beef tartare) 3. Scallop Crudo Our second course started with; 1. Radicchio Caesar 2. Grilled Swordfish 3. Chopped Salad Amigliorata (very tasty) On to the main course 1. Whole grilled Orata 2. Fusilli with clams 3.Radiatori ( pork ragu with fennel pollen) We left satisfied with a delicious dinner and pretty good service.
I need to take a look at these low reviews and see what
I need to take a look at these low reviews and see what they're about... I had a fucking fantastic experience. (And this isn't some god damn paid review... I'm a real person that mostly does reviews on good to great experiences (what I consider a four or five star "review") OR shit experiences. This was my first time at Alimento. I'm not a local white collar or 1% ass hole from the Silverlake area; I'm a normal ass blue collar worker, who barely makes enough to "survive" living in Los Angeles, much less buy a damn house here... so point being, the nearly $400 I dropped on a party of five, was absolutely "felt" financially. So let's start with walking in the place... (buckle in...this is gonna be a long one I think)... ...was not impressed nor disappointed when walking in to Alimento last night. Decent ambiance, concrete floors, wood vibes, good place settings and nothing awry from what I saw. Arrived right when dinner service started, and there was only one other table seated at the time. Two FOH staff members jokingly "fought" over serving us...I found it to be a fun moment. The server that ended up doing much of the service at our table, had on a cow pattern blouse, and god damn it put "MOOO" by Doja Cat in my head so bad I had to listen to it on the way home. On that note... SERVICE: was damn near fucking PERFECT. Server forgetting my beer was the ONLY hiccup of the evening and they comped it! Did not expect that and it only elevated my dining experience. I wanna give an honorable mention to the other server. He was helping our server out here and there, which was cool to see as well. Super nice guy and also helped us a few times. Also want to mention that the place started to fill up while our food started coming out. Food: Not sure if I'll remember everything we ordered as this is a "share" or "family style" type of place but here we go... first off, server gave us some suggestions and they were on point with all of them IMO. (Don't remember all the dish names) We had the Caesar type salad, the oxtail, two orders of the yellowtail crudo, the spaghetti, another pasta dish I didn't try and then the Lumache as well... man the sauce in the Lumache had SO MUCH FUCKING FLAVOR. I was blown away by it, and my partner wished she would have ordered it after tasting my dish... I was damn near rudely drinking the sauce. There were a couple other small plates on the table, but I didn't get to those as we had a good amount of food coming out and I knew I had the whole pasta dish to handle. The crudo was delicious. I recommend one plate per two people. Drinks were great and the bread pudding for dessert was delicious and I'm not a bread pudding guy... like for real, the bread pudding was damn good. My step daughter graduated from Art Center College of Design, and this was the place she chose for dinner on her graduation weekend. I have only had one other Italian restaurant in LA thus far, that I have enjoyed as much as I enjoyed my experience at Alimento. Again, this review is a genuine recanting of my experience last night. I'll look at the reviews pushing this spot down into the 3.4-3.5 category, cos this place is more like a 4.3-4.5 on a BAD day I imagine... ...keep doing your thing BOH & FOH. Food and service were fantastic. I hope next time I come for the Lumache, that sauce still hits the same way! Whoever the chef is in the kitchen, thank you. It was delicious.
My husband and I ate here for date night.
We had heard great things about it. It's definitely got a romantic ambiance going on. There were outdoor tables with candles, and the restaurant had a nice playlist going on. The server was attentive and took our order fairly fast. I was crushed when I found out that we had to pay for bread. The three pastas we split amongst ourselves were nicely paired with wine, my husband had a pasta with crab in it and while I can't remember off the top of my head what the other two were, they were overall pretty good. It tasted like a fusion-like pasta. A mix between Mediterranean and Italian. Parking was a challenge buts it's LA, you always find a way to make it work. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quiet, chill date night.
Date night with the husband.
Since I'm vegetarian I got the risotto tots & casarrece pasta- both were delicious. Husband got the Radiatori pasta & Albacore crudo- both "out of this world" according to him. The dessert was the best part of the dinner- both super flavorful. The service staff was really nice.

They tack on hidden fees to your bill (in addition to tip) and claim that they are being so kind to offer their employees health insurance out of the goodness of their hearts and that's what that fee is for. What a joke, how about actually paying for that yourself if you're offering it (RESPONSIBILITIES OF OWNING A BUSINESS I KNOW) and not trying to sheist your customers out of a couple bucks under the disguise of benefitting your employees. Super cheap
Food was VERY good.
A little loud but it was Vday and very busy. I booked a reservation after seeing Alimento on a list of great restaurants in NELA. When I looked Alimento up on Yelp I saw lots of mixed reviews some stating that their bill included a Healthcare tax and water being charged on the bill. This is nothing new to me as I've been to a number of restaurants that include heathcare for employees on their checks and restaurants that charge for "still" or filtered water. Tap water IS still free haha. It sucks that someone would knock a restaurant down for charging healthcare for their employee but whatever. I also saw people mention that their portions were small for the price. I found the portions to be average of other nice restaurants i've been to and the price was also average. We ordered the Smoked Fish Dip to start. Very good. Followed that with The Farro salad. Can't go wrong there. It was a great second course. Then we each got our own pasta dishes which where substantial in size. I ordered the special pasta for the night which was a creamy almost caramelized sauce with prawns. I honestly didn't want it to end. My girlfriend ordered a more simple classic pasta and red sauce with barata which was also very good. We ended our meal with a Chocolate cup which was very rich. Didn't finish all of it as we were full. Great date spot and would go back.
Couldn't begin to understand why they don't have a higher
Couldn't begin to understand why they don't have a higher star rating. The interior is simple, elegant, and inviting. The space isn't too big but fits quite a few tables, and there's more than enough two tops. There's also a heated outdoor section in front of the restaurant and a bar available for additional seating. We came on a training night, when the kitchen was a bit slow, but our server Christian was kind, knowledgable, and still attentive. The food was excellent. We ordered the fussili and radiatori pastas along with the white bean zuppa, and all were incredible. I'm sure we came right in the middle of the first dinner wave, especially on a Friday night, but whatever hiccups they had going on in the kitchen we barely felt. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would definitely return if in the area. Only negatives which are out of the control of the restaurant: parking sucks, but that's just Silverlake; and I would not recommend this spot for small children or large parties.
I went for the first time last night and although the food
I went for the first time last night and although the food is good, the portions are TINY! We were told it was family style so we all had 1 bite of each plate, left hungry and with a big bill. Honestly just skip this place and go to Hippo in highland park. Service was ok. Very loud, crammed space. Uncomfortable chairs. The only reason I don't give it 1 star is because the food was decent.
Atmosphere and service was amazing and every dish we had
Atmosphere and service was amazing and every dish we had was fantastic.Presentation and taste of everything we had was off the charts.
Amazing service and great ambiance and fantastic food!!!
Amazing service and great ambiance and fantastic food!!! Laura is so sweet and was so helpful. We are a vegetarian party and she explained the whole vegetarian menu to us, answered every question thoroughly. They also course out the meals at a great pace. Very flavorful food! The tots and white bean soup were our favorite! Farro salad was also so great:)
The Radiotore pasta was delicious, radicchio Caesar salad
The Radiotore pasta was delicious, radicchio Caesar salad was extra delicious, broccolini quite good but Chicken Milanese sandwich was THICK and didn't shine. Service was excellent even though one person manned the whole dining Room on a Saturday night. Small place w a few tables outside as well. They let you try their wines by the glass.

I made a reservation on November 11th and SHOWED UP TO MY RESERVATION and I was still charged $60 for a no show. I called to report this mistake and they said they would let their superiors know to get a refund, because they remembered me being there.AND NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME BACK OR REFUNDED ME. I don't know about anyone else, but $60 is a lot of money to lose on a mistake on their end and they haven't even tried to fix it!! The woman on the phone said I can use that $60 on my next visit but after this I WILL NEVER RETURN.
