If you're look for a quiet place for dinner, Amanda's is it.
The service is excellent and the food delicious. The chicken ravioli is very tasty and a good sized portion.

Wonderful family run restaurant! A lovely balance of warmth and elegance, the staff are amazing and really care about good service. The food was delicious and the ambiance includes live instrumental music. We had a memorable Valentine's Day dinner. Highly recommended.

Frankly, I am saddened to post a review of Amanda's with a 2 Star rating. My wife and I, combined with extended family members, have been patronizing Amanda's for years and have now found it's operation to be sub-par.Last evening's expeience on Valentine's Day marked the turning point in my decision to dine at alternate restaurants if, in fact, our travels take us to the Hoboken area. Again, I never would have thought of posting a negatve review for Amanda's given the wonderful memories of this establishment.Residing near the Montclair area, I gave us approx 3/4 of an hour to make our 7PM reservation at Amanda's using my private vehicle. All was going well until we encountered heavy congestion prior to the turn off into Hoboken. This did not surprise us yet we wanted to extend the courtesy to the restaurant to avoid being charged for a late arrival. We began calling Amanda's from the car which is where my disappointment began.Using the car's auto dialing and speaker system, we could hear it ringing and we could hear the line being picked up. However, after we identified ourselves, the call was abrubtly dropped. We called back and then found that a pre-recorded message responded to our call indicating that credit cards would not be accepted that evening due to a system problem. At that juncture, the call was dropped on their end once again.Despite the heavy traffic, I managed to arrive in front of the restaurant by 7PM. Parking was not to be found along the entire length of Washington St until we stopped in front of Amanda's! Unbelievably, one spot had opened up at which time I backed into it as quickly as I could; we were on time for our dinner reservation!Entering the restaurant, we politely waited in a short line for the hostess to recognize us. Once she did, I handed her our printed reservation at which time she entered it into her "system". With both of our coats in hand, we were shown to our table. (Our coats were still on my lap at this time. I asked staff to take our coats which was done with receipts given to us. Typically, guests coats are taken at the podium to avoid having to carry them into the dining room.)Now that we were seated, we both needed a drink from the bar. Numerous "servers" hustled back and forth behind us yet no one stopped to take our drink order or to acknowledge our presence. I finally got the attention of one of the servers and mentioned that we would like to order a drink from the bar. Our drink order was taken at that time.Once we were served our drinks, a significant about of time had passed yet we had not been approached by any of the very young "servers" seen hustling about the dining room areas to take our food orders. At this time, it became very clear that management had not trained the staff properly as one could see the chaos occurring right before our eyes. Although the keyboard musician was very good at the piano, it did little to distract us from the lack of professional service and calm that Amanda's had always been known for. With regard to our food order, for Starters, my wife opted for the Focaccia, the Ceasar Salad for me. Our Mains, The Short Ribs for my wife, the Sirloin Steak for me. My salad was quite good. My wife's short ribs appeared good. I must say that my sirloin steak was grilled perfectly. However, it was not served with any complementatry vegetables or starches whatsoever and looked quite bare on the plate all by itself. Frankly, I was very disappointed when it was presented to me.It should be noted that the restaurant was full to capacity with tables placed somewhat close to each other. We had always perceived Amanda's to offer an intimate and romantic vibe yet on this particular evening, that ambiance was not to be had, especially noted on Valentine's Day.Historically, I would have stayed quite longer following dinner yet given the dramatic changes that are now seen at Amanda's, I wanted very much to leave. Getting our check would be yet another annoying chapter to this dining experience. I mentioned that I would be paying in cash. I was presented, instead, with a torn off sheet of paper with hand-printed menu items. (A photo of that "check" is attached.)I found this procedure to be quite amateurish and inconsistent with Amanda's past operational standards. I proof-read the "check" and asked the server to sign and date it, indicating it PAID. He did not do that and asked me to keep the piece of paper instead!Hopefully, Amanda's new Ownership and Management will read this review and endeavor to focus on hiring service professionals who have the abilty to project what Amanda's represents. Clearly, we did not experience that on this particular evening. What became of the ORIGINAL Amanda's??
Be the first to ReplyI had dinner here with a group of friends, 7 of us in total.
It was a Thursday night between Christmas and New Years and the restaurant was packed, good thing we made a reservation. They put us at a long table in the back room with visibility to a jazz duo that was playing that night. We were not crowded at our table at all which was nice, especially with a larger group. The tall ceilings, dimmed lights and jazz music filling the room really made for a cozy and relaxing dinner with friends. They offered a decent wine selection and some of us shared bottles while others had cocktails. We ordered a few empanadas as appetizers, they were crispy and tasty, it was just the right bite before the main course. For an entrée I had homemade tagliatelle with seafood, the seafood in the dish was mussels, clams and salmon. The salmon threw me off but was tasty nonetheless. I would recommend checking out Amanda's and make sure you call ahead to reserve your table!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I dined at Amanda's in Hoboken for the first
My husband and I dined at Amanda's in Hoboken for the first time and requested a window seat in advance when we made the reservation. When we arrived, the hostess indicated that the window seats were only for parties of three or four. No problem at all until shortly after we were seated a couple (party of 2) was seated at a window seat. Being the only African-Americans in the restaurant at the time and to see a Caucasian couple enter in and be seated at a table we were told we couldn't have access to, was very insulting as well as highly unprofessional. We asked the hostess why they were able to be seated at the window seating we were denied access to and she initially lied and said they were a party of three but only two people arrived. There were clearly two pre set menus at the table prior to the couple arriving. When we spoke to the manager, he came clean and said that the two diners were regulars and always sit by the window every week. This whole situation could have been avoided if they were just honest in the first place. My husband and I dine out multiple times a week but this whole dining experience at Amanda's in Hoboken felt very awkward and discriminatory. To add insult to injury, the next day I received an email indicating that the restaurant cancelled our previous night's reservation. Even though we clearly checked in and dined at the restaurant. We would have chalked things off as a bad dining experience at Amanda's but when they deleted our reservation so that we couldn't leave a review in OpenTable. That was just another example of their unacceptable and unprofessional actions. We had to appeal to OpenTable in order to reinstate our reservation and receive our points. As for courtesy and integrity 0/10. As for the food, it was slightly above average 6/10. As for our server, he had poor communication skills, very little eye contact and could use additional training in fine dining customer service 3/10.The most enjoyable part of our dining experience was the live entertainment and the young lady pouring the water. We've decided not to return or recommend this establishment. It's just too many great restaurants in Hoboken to be subjected to awkward and subpar service.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly, I'm disappointed.
I thought this place was going to be so good but I didn't love it. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it but I probably wouldn't come back. First of all, we ordered the focaccia with prosciutto and it came with TWO pieces of bread which weren't even focaccia? They were small pieces of white country bread which was nothing to write home about. The pork chop wasn't bad but I'd say it was average. The mussels were good-not great. The chicken thighs were amazing and so tasty and truly the best part of the meal. The gnocchi was eh and I wouldn't get it again. The drinks were good and the live band added a great element but overall for the price I wouldn't be back!

On a busy Friday night we were able to obtain a last minute reservation here. Upon entering you get a relaxed but upscale vibe. We were lucky enough that for being November the evening was unusually warm and were able to sit in their little courtyard space. Our table was pretty close to the stairs (the courtyard was slightly similar to a fire escape) but we felt safe. Service was great as we were a group of four we felt the server was reachable but didn't interrupt us. The atmosphere was romantic but also classic, in the way your nice restaurant in your hometown feels. We ordered espresso martinis (regular and tequila version), a margarita and their seasonal spiced drinks. All very tasty and ample portions. In terms of food we chose the gnocchi and short rib. The gnocchi was ok but nothing to write home about, however the short rib, according to my friends was delicious! Overall, we felt pricing was fair and we had a great experience considering everything was so last minute. Would return and recommend!
Be the first to ReplyTried the fettuccine carbonara ($19) and a Bloody Mary
Tried the fettuccine carbonara ($19) and a Bloody Mary ($13) for brunch. The Bloody Mary was delicious, albeit small, it had the peppery kick I love. The fettuccine is just an Alfredo dish with a fried egg on top. The sauce was bland, just being warm cream. It had no salty flavor notes of pork yet somehow even the very few pieces of bacon in the dish had been leeched of any flavor and texture adding no value. The service was excellent and maybe it was just the wrong dish to try so it's worth a try at least for the cocktails
Be the first to ReplyLet me begin with.
.. the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The keyboard player added great ambiance. Unfortunately the positives stop there. I will warn anyone from eating here. I immediately got sick from the food. There was definitely food poisoning from something I ate. We chose to dine here after seeing the high star rating and reviews. After being served pre frozen food, I further examined the reviews. Could it be all paid for reviews on open table? With legitimate high rating, the restaurant wouldn't have been empty. I should have known better.
Be the first to ReplyFoods is ok.
Not sure it lives up to the hype. Todays rib eye with chimichurri was actually just a wine reduction or bbq sauce not sure really but unless I misunderstood chimichurri, this wasn't it.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good.
But upon time to pay the check the card reader was down. We were kept waiting at our table for 10 minutes before someone informed us there was a problem with the machine. Our bill was around $60. We then were kept waiting for and additional 30+ minutes while they were attempting to get the machine back up and running. We had a $50 bill and said we can pay with that but that's all the cash we had on us. We had figured this was fair considering the major inconvenience which resulted in making us extremely late for our event. The owner had suggested that there was nothing that could be done until the machine was back up. He asked if we would walk back to our home to get the rest of the money to complete the bill payment. We live on 13th street. We walked back, picked up the $10, walked back to the restaurant only for the owner to say that he got the card reader working and charged us the full bill. His "compensation" was a $10 bottle of wine. We were extremely understanding that these things happened, but we offered to pay 90% of the bill even after being kept waiting for 40+ minutes. It's unfortunate because the food was actually very good. But the way this situation was handled by the owner was just not acceptable. We will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for my daughter's 16th birthday dinner.
Spoke to the co-Owner and she very thoughtfully chose the dining area for my daughter and her friends and us, parent chaperones. The wait staff were very attentive (shout out to Dan- a fellow Filipino) who made excellent food recommendations- seafood pasta, empanadas and grilled pork chop. The dulce de leche dessert is to die for! And can I also say the piano duo provided very classy entertainment! Again, it was the co-owner's suggestion to have the birthday song be played while the birthday cake with a candle is taken out. Thank you very much for a Very, very special time for my kid!
Be the first to ReplyOverall pretty good.
Burger, fettucine carbonara were very good, as was the traditional eggs benedict. But, the prosciutto de parma was a bit disappointing in the size of the serving. Also, with no alcoholic drinks ordered, the bill came in well over $100 for 4 of us. A bit pricey for brunch. Not sure we'd return for okay food with a high price tag.
Be the first to Replygreat food, great service, & great live music.
their margaritas are horrible tho lmaooo
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Saturday night.
Ambiance was very nice, just really loud from the love music. The appetizer was phenomenal. I mean the polenta was smaller but beyond excellent. So I had high hopes for dinner. I enjoyed my soup it was very good just extremely small. For the chicken, it was except bland. We asked for salt, pepper, and red pepper because it honestly just tasted like tomato sauce. So we doctored it up to our liking- we are both Italian. The chicken was dry on the sides and moist in the middle. We ordered the Riesling wine from Washington for 31$ it was delicious. Very fairly priced wines. Service was excellent as well. Overall though the food lacked luster. I likely not come back or recommend to people.

Great food with good service along with a three piece band to boot! How does it get any better than that?
Be the first to ReplyWent for my mothers 60th and the staff gave us a private
Went for my mothers 60th and the staff gave us a private room. The ambiance is warm and inviting - not to mention live music! The owner personally spent time talking to us and gave us the inside scoop on the history and building. The food was good but nothing extraordinary. That being said we were happy with the service and meal. Definitely did not disappoint but did not have anything innovative or different. I ordered the steak and eggs and the steak was cooked very nicely with a tangy chimichuri sauce.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a Hoboken staple.
You don't only have to come here for an occasion, but if you want to stay in Hoboken and not trek to the other side of the Hudson River, and you can go to a great place in a polo and nice pair of jeans while catching up with someone, or making sure if mom and dad are in town that they have a nice place to have dinner, this is definitely the spot. They used to have an octopus app that was the best in town. I think they rotate it out. Not to worry, the mussels are incredible. To echo Ilana H.'s recommendation, you should also get the focaccia to help dip. For the mains I recommend the beef short rib. I'm looking forward to trying the Argentinian sausage and spinach as sides. I just literally did not have the room because I had a big lunch (amateur move, I know).I'm not worried. I'll be Bach.

We had the pleasure of hosting my baby shower here at Amanda's and we are so happy we did. From the beginning, working with Juliet and the team was so effortless. She was able to work with us every step of the way to ensure things were perfect up to and including the day of our brunch. We received nothing but rave reviews from our family and friends. The staff, service and food - everything was incredible! I would recommend Amanda's for any group events or special occasions, you will be in amazing hands with the team there!
Be the first to ReplyService us great at this Hoboken staple.
The food flavors are fantastic but for drinks they don't have the right kind of ice cubes.. For example, an old fashioned drink you should have a large ice cube not small ice cubes which will melt and water down your drink. The food could have come out of tiny bit warmer than it did but again the flavors are fantastic and it's a great place to stop in.
Be the first to Reply100% recommend the mussels with white sauce.
The eggplant parm is really good not super big, so I suggest getting an appetizer before or a side.
Be the first to ReplyReally disappointed by the service.
Food was nice minus the spaghetti bolognese (super average and no flavor) empanadas were great, mussels were great, and salad was flavorful (needed more dressing though) our service was very lacking. We could see our server eating in the back while one of us waited 15 min for a salad that never came. We had to get up and ask another server since ours was eating. We were all servers before so we get it-but a good server checks on their tables to make sure everyone is squared away before they eat (esp when guests can see you.......) I also asked another server for help and they never returned or gave us an update.I was pretty disappointed. There's so many places in Hoboken, not sure if I'd return besides for drinks. Live music was a nice touch
Be the first to ReplySuper cute spot in Hoboken.
Gives off homey vibes with the setting. They have a keyboard player and drummer who played nice soft music. It was good! We got the Caesar salad, potato croquettes, 2 chicken parmigiana and the flourless chocolate cake. The Caesar salad may have been one of the best I have ever add. Highly recommend. The potato croquettes were also deliciously. Three came in an order, wish more did! The chicken parmigiana was good, but nothing to write home about. The chicken had white and dark meat which was unique. And the flourless chocolate cake was delicious. Not super big but enough to share with another as a nice sweet treat after the meal. Amanda's was a great spot. I'm glad we found it. Would make the trip out of the city to go again!
