🤢 2/5 - Disappointing experience

We were looking forward to dining at the Angler after reading the largely positive reviews online. Unfortunately, a big disappointment. We arrived for dinner and sat inside. The restaurant was moderately busy at 20:45 but not by any means packed. We were given with the menu (small menu to start with), only to be told that they “sold-out” on some of the starters and on 4-5 of their main fish dishes. Also, the black cod “was on the small size” (whatever that means - not enough for 1 person?) I had to take the scallops, as a starter, from the mains section at 25USD each!! 4 scallops = 100USD. My wife took a tuna tartare “minced” and mixed with a fruity jelly. Both were tasty. For mains, I ordered the only fish left on the mains menu - the sea bream, which I admit was cooked nicely and was very tasty. My wife had to resolve to the lobster and oh-boy they found a way to ruin the dish. The menu states “grilled lobster” and no other information. The seemingly helpful staff, coming and going to the table numerous times had little knowledge of the dishes and did not volunteer the detail that the lobster was overwhelmingly covered in Harissa butter! I felt sorry for the animal that died only to be treated that way. A waste of a fresh lobster. There is a huge selection of wine, all overpriced, local or imported. The ambience and dining experience I left last, as what makes a restaurant good is the food and the Angler failed on that. But if you want to charge over 500USD for a couple to dine with you and pretend you offer a fine dining experience, you cannot have the cutlery in a can in the middle of the table for the customer to reach or play the loud cheesy 80’s music on the speakers. It felt like eating in a Burger place but paid more than I ever had for celebrity chef dishes. The manager tried to rectify the experience by offering a desert, which was a nice gesture. I really hope we caught them on a bad day but I fear we didn’t.
