Anglo London Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent !!
This place is excellent. We did have high expectations, and they were fulfilled. Best cod we had ever experienced. Super dessert. Many surprising tastes. Very pleasant team. Highly recommended
Amazing Dining Experience
Anglo Our first visit to Anglo in October last year turned out to be one of the dining highlights of 2023. Well I can honestly say that our return visit on Saturday will take some beating in 2024. The imagination , creativity and skill of chef Anthony Raffo is nothing short of genius as he puts together some amazing dishes using the very best British produce. To match this you have manager / sommelier Marie Danzavilliers with her absolutely amazing friendly service and drinks pairings that complement each course perfectly. The restaurant is only a short walk from Farringdon Station on St. Cross Street. When you enter you will see that it’s a small restaurant seating between 14 -18 guests. This is why they can manage with a a very small team giving you friendly and personal service. You will also see an abundance of jars which are filled with all sorts of pickled ingredients. Their food style is from foraging and pride themselves on not wasting anything in order to create more fabulous dishes. Our return on saturday started with a lovely welcome from Marie before showing us to our table. We decided to have a drink while we looked at the menu and chose the Earth Ale Spicy Weiss beer and the Strawberries on Sea gose. The menu is Eleven Courses (including snacks and petit fours) priced at just £85 pounds and there is also a supplemented dish if you so wish. This I have to say is one of the best value for money Tasting Menu’s you will find anywhere. There is also a Drinks Pairing which is Five glasses for £49 pounds that believe me is well worth trying. There is a choice of a smaller tasting menu at lunchtime. We opted for the full tasting menu with the extra course and for myself I chose to have the drinks pairing. This began with our first snack of a drinkable White Cabbage , Hampshire breed pork , parsley and rapeseed. This was followed by the second snack of the Norfolk sand carrot which was very clever indeed. Now it was time for the bread which is the Anglo Sourdough with yeast and wild mushroom. This leads to the first course with a wine pairing and oh my god what an absolute delight it was to. The Yorkshire Leek with potato , ramson caper , tunworth and three-cornered leek. The depth of flavour was incredible and something you’ll find in every course. The pairing was a 2022 Skin Contact “Maria” Madeleine Angeline from the Renegade Winery in Bethnal Green , East London. This was followed by my personal highlight of the day. The Line Caught Cornish Cod , hay , cauliflower , hazelnut and sea purslane was quite simply stunning. The cod was matched perfectly with a 2022 Le Besson , Domaine Batard Langelier from Loire , France. Now it was time for the supplemented dish of Hampshire Trout , wild rocket , herring roe , purple sprouting broccoli , broad beans and goat’s curd. We then moved on to two Duck courses with the first being an incredible Devon Duck doughnut with a fabulous walnut purée. This was followed by the amazing Devon Duck , hogweed seed and swede. The wine pairing was unbelievable because on its own it was ok but with the duck it became soft and fruity. This was a 2020 Biografico , Uve de Vida from Castilla-La Mancha , Spain. Now it was time for the cheese course and it was very clever and delicious. The Somerset Montgomery Cheddar with Isle of Wight black garlic and walnut amazingly tasted like a savoury tiramisu. The pairing was a Pure Mead from the Loxwood Meadworks in West Sussex. Your palate was then refreshed with a Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb with gherkin , dill and oxalis. Now it was time to finish was an absolute genius of a dessert. It was a Jack Buck Farm Celeriac ice cream with a charred celeriac skin and a meringue. The pairing was equally fabulous in the form of a sweet apple Somerset Ice Cider. We then finished with a coffee and petit fours of Hay fudge and beetroot. This brought an end to an incredible dining experience where the food was outstanding and matched with fabulous drinks pairings. I really can’t recommend a visit to Anglo highly enough and will be looking forward to returning myself again soon. This is an intimate little restaurant where you get to chat with the team throughout. Considering how prices of menu’s are rising this is unbelievable value for money so why not book your table now. Tasting Menu - 11 Courses (including snacks and petit fours) priced at £85 is exceptional value for money. Wine Pairing - 5 Glasses priced at £49 is also great value. Thank You Anthony and Marie for a truly amazing afternoon and look forward to seeing again soon.
Stellar cooking
Super amount of complexity in the cooking. Great explanations by chef and server. Wine flight a tad disappointing compared to the food. Friendly service, a lovely occasion.
Little-known gem with great promise
Such an imaginative, well-curated menu. Thoughtful presentation. Good value. We felt Anglo is deserving of a Michelin star.
Fantastic intimate restaurant that really cared
Visited Anglo for lunch on a Saturday in mid December. Everything was exceptional and a fantastic value tasting menu for London. My wife is coeliac but she wouldn’t have known there, gluten free food made seemlessly including homemade gluten-free bread. We opted for the lunch tasting menu, paying extra to add the Oyster. Food was outstanding for each course. All was presented impeccably and tasted fantastic. The duck courses in particular were some of the best we have had. The location is about a 15 min walk from Oxford street but inside the restaurant it’s very relaxed and very intimate venue with not many tables. The service as perfect. Each course explained and often by the chef. They talk about low mileage sustainable food and that’s something they certainly deliver on with so many ingredients either grown by them or foraged that very morning. The care is what sets it apart. We are lucky enough to have eaten in various nice restaurants and had tasting menus and we have paid a lot more for a lot worse! Look forward to coming back to see the menu again soon!
Why I'll go back: pound for pound, and £ for £, one of
Why I'll go back: pound for pound, and £ for £, one of the best tasting meals in London. You HAVE to order: obviously it's a set menu, but the pre-dinner cocktails are solid Tony's Tip: the lunch seating on Fri or Sat is nice because it's light out, which is a good backdrop for the relatively small space (no more than 20 people). Just returned from London and our second trip to Anglo. The first was pre-Covid, and we were thrilled to find Chef Anthony Raffo still whipping up creative dishes for guests. This visit was just as enjoyable as our last one, and since no one on Yelp has shown Anglo any love in five years, I figured a more recent review was the least I could do in return for our amazing lunch. Did I say lunch? Yes. They offer it on Friday and Saturday, and we've done lunch both times and really enjoyed it. Sitting in a quiet part of town just east of Bloomsbury, Anglo has a pretty straightforward presentation vs. some other tasting menu restaurants that seek to entertain a bit. So we saved those for the evening and were able to focus on the food at Anglo. On that note, there isn't one of the six dishes that we didn't thoroughly enjoy. The opening offering - a carrot bisque - was delicious (and perfectly themed for Autumn). The fish course - leek with several accompaniments - was delicate and flavorful. The duck was presented in two courses, with the first being a creative puff of confit and the second a more conventional portion, but accented with a couple of thin, gelatinous pieces that served as a unique way to add both texture and sweetness to the dish. And for the second day in a row, we were treated to the pleasure of cheese in the form of "ice cream!" I really hope this catches on in the U.S. - we're sorta addicted now. Dessert (beetroot and berries with honey) reminded me of the old spin art kits when I was a kid. Just a beautifully elegant way to close out the meal. I alluded to cost at the top, but I have to say, 8 scrumptious courses for a mere £55 is hard to beat anywhere in London. Well worth it, and an incentive to splurge on a cocktail, glass of wine, the pairing, or an extra course that may be available. It's also a refreshing change from the exorbitant cost of many tasting menus these days. Granted, Anglo is not Michelin-starred, but it rightfully should be. If you live in London, I would work Anglo into your afternoon or evening sometime soon. If visiting, definitely put it on the list. We absolutely cannot wait to go back! No
A delightful and innovative dining experience
An earlier review has already provided a detailed description of all the courses we experienced so all I can really say is this was an exceptional meal for a very reasonable price. The menu accurately lists the ingredients for each course but this cannot convey how they are presented and combine to form a series of incredible flavours. Top marks go to head chef Anthony and also to Marie in front of house who was knowledgeable and engaging. The wines we had were excellent. We look forward to returning soon.
First class taster menu and wine pairing with superb friendly staff and presentation
If you’re looking for a tasting menu at a reasonable price thats class quality this is it. Service was outstanding and wine pairing as good as anything I’ve had. Unique dining experience I look forward to trying again. Highly recommended. Thank you.
A Stunning Lunch
This was an exceptional lunch and one that will live long in my memory. Chef / Owner Anthony Raffo and front of house / sommelier Marie Danzavilliers have created a no waste menu using only the finest british produce , foraged ingredients and natural wines to bring you a very creative and clever dining experience. Anglo is set of Hatton Garden on St. Cross Street just a short walk from Farringdon station. It’s a small modern casual dining room that caters for around twenty people. This is why they can manage with just the two of them plus another chef and pot washer. On arrival we were given a lovely welcome by Marie before being shown to our table. Once settled we quickly looked around the restaurant to see that it is designed like other casual but modern dining rooms with minimal decor. It was also noticeable to see all their fermentation jars. We decided to start with a cocktail while we looked at the menu. Here they only serve a tasting menu where you can either have the full eleven course (including a supplement dish) or the smaller lunch tasting menu. You can also choose to match the food with the wine pairing which is just five glasses so you don’t feel you have to rush each glass. We decided to opt for the full tasting menu with the wine pairing. This started with Norfolk sand carrot , walnut a soup like dish full of flavour that you would have never tasted before. This was followed by the Crown Prince Pumpkin , broad bean , hogweed seed , thyme. Next to arrive was the Anglo Sourdough with a yeast butter , wild mushroom spelt that was absolute heaven. Our next course was the Leek , seaweed , onion , greenhouse herbs , black garlic , curd , ramson a truly amazing dish with incredible flavour combinations. This was paired with the first wine pairing a 2022 Skin Contact wine from the Renegade Winery in Bethnal Green. Another fabulous dish was to follow in the form of Lincolnshire Smoked Haddock , cauliflower , hazelnut , three cornered leek , celeriac , herring roe. This was paired with a 2021 French Riesling from the Alsace. Now we moved on to the supplemented dish of Hispi Cabbage , maldon oyster , gooseberry , nasturtium , bramley apple , spruce and absolutely clever and imaginary dish from the chef. Next to come was the main course of Devon Duck , sunflower seed , isle of wight smoked garlic , honey , spring onion , kale , yogurt. This was paired beautifully with a 2021 Cannonau Tenuta from Sardinia , Italy. What was to follow was a very clever and delicious cheese course of Somerset Montgomery Cheddar , pickle , dill , potato. This was paired with a glass of mead from Lowwood Meadworks in Sussex. Now we needed a palate cleanser and what a delight it was to. The Squash , oregano , mint , sorrel , hampshire rapseed with optional corniish black wood ants. It was now time for dessert where we enjoyed the British Buckwheat , berries , beetroot , raw honey paired perfectly with a blueberry wine from Lutton Farm , Northamptonshire. A coffee and petit fours of Pine Cone and toasted hay fudge brought an end to our amazing lunch. This was an incredible dining experience where the food was imaginative and very clever from Anthony and paired perfectly with amazing wine by Marie. I really can’t recommend a visit to Anglo highly enough. The Full Tasting Menu is priced at only £85 and the wine pairings at just £45 making this also excellent value for money when you consider the quality of food , wine and service. I will definitely be keeping my eye on the the menu so that I can return as soon as possible.
Fabulous experience
We had an amazing lunch. Each course was a wonderful surprise. The flavours and the wine pairings were impeccable. Lovely ambience and the extra touches of explaining each course were faultless. Happily looking forward to going again!

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
