Get the loaded tots
Went for brunch on a Saturday. Nice experience! Really interesting brunch menu. A green salad was really tasty, with great crunch, textures, and a tangy dressing. Mandu (dumplings) were delicious. A breakfast sandwich with spam and egg was interesting, though the seaweed slightly overwhelmed the egg. And definitely order the loaded tots for the table to share. Great service and chic decor. Nice experience!

On a recent trip to the DC area, West Virginia & Pittsburgh, this fun and delicious Korean family style restaurant stood out about all the other restaurants we visited. The server was super-helpful in giving us tips for the best way to order and there wasn't a single dish that was disappointed. The Honghap Tang, a soup of mussels, dashima broth, noodles, kale, carrots & onions was a particular hit with all 5 of us. The restaurant itself is smallish but feels airy and inviting. Anju is an excellent dining choice and I would love to come back next time we hit town. Recommended.

Magnificent from start to finish. The fried chicken and dumplings were particulat highlights. Nice wine list. Great to eat family style. Friendly and helpful staff.
Be the first to ReplyDolsot Bibim Bap-YEA!
Went here with a co-worker. The waitstaff was fun and very knowledgeable about the menu. We shared the Mandu and both had the Dolsot Bibim Bap. Mine was tofu. So delicious and reminded me of all the bibim bop I had in Korea in the past. Even the banchan was great. My favorite is always the kimchee and it did not disappoint. This was my second time here. I forgot I visited back in 2019 and was excited that I chose this place again.

This restaurant served an excellent meal. The staff were friendly and were able to make excellent suggestions and pairings! I had one of of Mama Lee's Classics, Dolsot Bibim Bap, which was hot, tasty, and overall just excellent! I'll be back for sure!

Food is good and service is excellent. Food serve fast also. If your do not want their ori spicy need to request less spicy. Good ambience for friends and family gathering.

We're not experts on Korean cuisine, but we had a great experience at Anju. The staff & food were exceptional. More of a neighborhood favorite than a tourist destination. Limited seating so reservations are highly recommended, but we just stopped in and they were happy to get us two seats at the bar. Will definitely go back the next time we visit DC.

Excellent meal for a first time visit. Good variety on the menu and definitely worth sharing with a group. From the dumplings to the entree, it was delight. Only complaint is that there was a little too much fat with the pork. The chicken was great.

The absolute best thing about Anju is the service. It was excellent. Atmosphere is okay; a bit dark, and stairs make the whole place inaccessible for the mobility impaired. We had an excellent branzino -- lightly breaded -- entree; vegetarian dumplings were so-so (heavy, and doughy); an appetizer of vegetables in a pink sauce was beautiful and tasty; a veg dish with rice cakes -- the things called rice cakes were unpleasantly overly chewy, so pushed aside and it became a dish of light stir-fry vegetables in a sticky brown sauce. I didn't try the kimchi because my dining partner did -- we both love any form of kimchi, normally -- and pronounced it not good. We each had a glass of wine with dinner, an entree, and shared 3 appetizer dishes. Before tip this totaled $70 each person, which seems like an awful lot.

So good! The wontons are amazing, the fried brazing is so good but best of all is the ginger funnel cake dessert! Service was impeccable also.

Fast service while at restaurant or you could order take out. Seafood fresh and delicious. Enjoyed the Bibim Guksu and the Mando. Both were delicious but in particular the Bibim Guksu for its nice combination of the cold noodles with kimchi and fresh vegetables. The Mandu, or pork dumplings, were good but a little on the sweet side for my taste.
Be the first to ReplyTasty Korean fried Chikin
Amazing fried chicken!!! Lovely restaurant with super friendly staff. Good and interesting wine selection and the food totally yummy. Just remember when you order the ‘chiken’ it’s huge (but totally worth it).
Be the first to ReplyVery Well Done… not quite hype-worthy
So I’ll qualify this review by saying it’s not Anju’s fault Washingtonian made them #1 on their very best restaurants list. In my mind, that slot should be reserved for truly special experiences like Komi, Minibar, etc. This is not that.
Having said that, this is the kind of place I would like to come all the time if I lived in the neighborhood. The staff is super friendly, the decor is nice, and the menu has several standouts. Based on the reviews, we had to try the dumplings and fried chicken. Both were top notch and we really enjoyed them. I could eat the dumplings all day every day. We tried the duck/noodles to try to get something a little more adventurous and it wasn’t our cup of tea. Way too rich (and I don’t say that often!). The waffle dessert was really different and might have been the best thing here. So cocktails were fresh, food was really good, price was reasonable. I would have been really fired up about this place if I randomly stopped in after a Saturday walking around. My advice would be ignore the hype and set expectations and enjoy this place for what it is… a little neighborhood gem.
Wonderful Korean food!
We really enjoyed our dinner at Anju - everything was delicious and you see why they're so highly reviewed. The food is a fusion of tradition and modernity and the cocktails were also great. We got the Mandu (dumplings), Chikin (so good!), Ori Jajang Myeon (a duck dish that was delightful), and the Ssam Board. Everything was so flavorful, and I look forward to eating there again.

We got take out dinner from Anju during the holiday season. The food was delicious! We tried several dishes and enjoyed all of them. They have outside tables with electric outdoor heaters too.

this was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had! The staff was so friendly and helpful getting us a seat at the bar with no reservation. Phil the bartender was INCREDIBLE and provided us with great recommendations. Food was spectacular. 10/10 recommend!
Be the first to ReplyNot for everyone, I guess...
Me and my wife are from out of town and went to Anju as it was considered the one of the best mid- range eateries in DC. I also love authenitc Korean food with my best memories having had grear food from Seoul. The service was really great, the place had great interiors and was busy even for a Wednesday night. Food waa good but the problem we had it was too rich in flavor and in huge quantities that betrayed my judgement of looking ar different pictures at differenr websites. We had the chickin appetizer with 5 big pieces of chicken. It would have been good if it had been size of wings. The batter was bit thick and the sauce was too rich that eating more than one piece wouod bring you to satiety. We had the duck+ noodles dish and it had a sweeting caramelized onion type of sauce which also in small quantities also tasted great but again, too rich that we could not go beyond two bites. I wish there was somethinf bjndjng the duck and the noodles. They were like not meant to be with each other and wanted to exist as two seperate dishes. We did not comple both the dishes.
We also had the Ssam board which was great and we completed it. We also had the apple caramel panna cotta and cucumber+ blueberry soju which were balanced in flavot, tasty and makes one feel satisfied. I have too say that all the meats- the chicken, the duck and the beef were cooked to perfection. If one was to come here, all the portion sizes are huge that you can carry home. We wished the first two dished we described were two rich for us. Looking at the other dishes in the menu, I can expect some of the other dishes can be similar in richness. But the place was packed even on a weekday which I guess means love the food here. In the end, we left wirh mixed emotions, partly sstisfied but partly not. I hope the chef rethinks the menu a bit. Overall bill was 137$ excluding gratuity
DELICIOUS!
Loved this place! Ordered family style so we got a taste of everything. Fantastic service and food lived up to its reputation. Worth a visit!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food in a lovely space
We had dinner here on a Tuesday evening, eating inside. The food was remarkable, the service outstanding, and the ambience fresh and restful. I don't remember the names of the dishes, but we had a seafood dish with noodles in broth, duck with noodles, and rice cakes with vegetables, all nummy. The dessert of dulce de leche ice cream with coffee ice, whipped cream and chocolate sauce was a delight to the senses with a great mix of flavors and textures. I recommend Anju highly.
Be the first to ReplyAnju is incredible...in every way!
The incredible food, service, ambiance, safe spacing, cleanliness of restroom and dining area, are all reasons why I'll be returning again soon. This was the Mother's Day brunch tasting and it was mindblowing.
Be the first to ReplyPerhaps we’re not their target audience
Had dinner here and were underwhelmed. The ambience was lovely and the servers were excellent, but the food didn’t impress. We had the saam board, bibim bap, and bokum bap. We started with the fried chicken and fish cakes. I found the beef on the saam board too rare and tough. My son thought his bibim bap was bland. The fried chicken had an unsettling texture and too much batter. Actually, our server recommended the item we most enjoyed, which was a lotus root side dish. That was delicious. It’s possible that we just didn’t order well or aren’t sophisticated enough, but it’s rather expensive so disappointing to not really enjoy the experience.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t waste your time - totally overrated
Visited with another couple for dinner on the patio. Only one heater outside - it was 45 degrees out - and it was the type you would buy for a room in your house, not an actual outdoor heater, so it was freezing. Ordered the drink pairing - don’t waste your money - small pours and two of the four drinks tasted like our juice. At one point, only half of the table’s food arrived, with almost ten minutes before our friends received their courses. Other than one of the starters, everyone’s food was mediocre, particularly the main plates. Pure amateur hour at a ridiculously high price point. Better bet - drive out to Annandale for Korean food and save yourself 100 bucks.

They truly know what they are doing in the Anju kitchen. The pan fried branzino was flaky and tender, in a crispy and light batter, spiced with chili peppers to perfection. The daikon was flavorful and soft but not mushy. The mandu dumplings were 100% addictive, but I was glad to have the house pickles, kimchi and bib lettuce salad to cut through their delicious fat. Kids enjoyed the bibim bap and rice porridge. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. We ordered online and picked up from their takeout window, which was well organized and with plenty of social distancing. The patio offers some spaced out seating.
