We could hear ourselves!
Annabelle, like the other Knightsbridge restaurants, is under the watchful eye of the owner who shows up randomly each night, often more than once, at each of his restaurants. We've been to almost all of the restaurants, and they are consistent performers. We had an early Saturday night reservation and were seated at a table that was very comfortable. There is sound absorbing material in the dining room so we could actually have a real conversation. The food, under Frank Ruta, was lovely (although we missed seeing the roast chicken on the menu). One thing we all appreciated is that the desserts are not so sugary sweet as many other places. Service was professional and efficient. Annabelle is not on the trendy list but it was completely full of what we think as people like us, locals of a certain age or who will be there within a decade or so. We'll be back.

Last year we had two very poor and very over priced meals at Annabelle's, and said so on Tripadvisor. This led to management's very caustic response and an unpleasant confrontation. Today, when booking another Knightsbridge restaurant, I was informed that the group would take no reservations from me (what a dire punishment). It goes to show how right I was about Annabelle's management, which wants to shut down unfavorable criticism. (I recall that it was particularly peeved at my saying its poundcake was no better than Sara Lee's.)

Finally, a reminder of why it used to be such a pleasure to eat out: unhurried, exceptionally well-prepared food, and a menu where every choice was tempting. We sat on the patio which was on a quiet side street with perfect evening temperatures. Every dish we had was cooked to perfection, from the halibut to the vegetables to the duck. The mains were as strong as the appetizers -- fresh tasting, seasonal, and creative without being gimmicky. The sommelier was attentive, friendly, and informative even though we were just ordering by the glass. Excellent cocktails and an interesting selection of wines by the glass, which was great given that the bottle list was top heavy. The only weak course was desert, where none of the options seemed enticing and the three flavors of ice cream we settled on were not as good as what we have at home. (Desert also featured the only misfire of the evening -- someone decided to add $2 for the extra cookie we asked for to go with the desert we split -- a bit gratuitous on top of a $300 bill). This may be our new favorite restaurant in DC.

Given the ratings we were disappointed. The fish seemed old and definitely too salty. The beet and calamari salad were good. The ice cream should have been served in a smaller bowl to show off the ice cream rather than look like a few pebbles in a bowl. Wine was good and service ok.

The service at Annabelle is very attentive, and it is very pleasant dining on the restaurant's outside patio. The food, though, is disappointing for the price. Annabelle is part of the large Knightsbridge Restaurant Group in DC (Bombay Club, Rasika, etc.). Perhaps this is the result of the pandemic, but the food and wine selections by the glass give the sense that the figurative corporate bean counters have a tight grip on the ingredients of a dish, how long it should take to prepare, etc. There's an assembly line feel to it all. I won't be going back.

I’ve been here twice and both experiences were e croton Al. This restaurant is part of a group of eclectic cuisines. Each one is unique with no crossover of style or ingredients or tastes. Each stands alone in its own class, loyal to its own genre, ranging from Indian to middle eastern to Italian to French.
Annabelle’s is no exception. I would say it’s a cross between Continental and Fusion. The spices and herbs are subtle and explosive in your mouth. Excellent fusion of flavors and an updated take on classics.
The wine list is very good. The house champagne equally so. In addition, the offer a South African Rose sparkling wine which was as good as a French rose champagne.
Bread, homemade, melts in your mouth. Service is superb.
The only down side is, it is so popular that the noise level is a not too high. It is hard to hear the people at your table but you can easily hear your neighbors conversation.
There is nothing bad on the menu.
I can’t wait to go back. I love this restaurant.
More than just a neighborhood place!
I remember this restaurant from its prior life. What an improvement! The restaurant has been redone, renamed and new owner. From the very outset, everything was perfect. The waiter was prompt and had a great personality. Very friendly. My friend ordered chicken which seemed odd when there were so many other choices. It was the best chicken ever and far surpassed everything on the menu. The whole experience made me feel special. I think it will become my go to place

Be the first to ReplyIntimate Dinner and an Excellent Experience
We selected Annabelle for a special family dinner - and we were not disappointed. A neat intimate atmosphere with attentive service. If possible, recommend a table in the small atrium. The staff was very accommodating when we asked to split a number of appetizers and first courses selections (family style) .

Oh my, what a magnificent evening at Annabelle's. My family of three went for the first time during restaurant week; and we discovered a spot where we definitely wish to return. Service, excellent. Food, delicious. Ambience, inviting. My husband dearly enjoyed the dining room, wishing to return for special occasions. The swordfish, skate and beef were creatively prepared and yummy. Follow it up with the decadent almond tart. Wines and cocktails also yummy.

I recently hosted a dinner for 6 at Annabelle on my birthday, and I can't say enough about the food and the hospitality. Every course was delicious and special in its own way, including my perfectly-prepared tri-tip. The service was very attentive but not intrusive -- a fine line to walk -- and the wine recommendation was spot on. I'm going again tonight and I suspect they'll be seeing a lot of me in 2021!

Service, venue and, of course, food was all 5 stars. Homemade pasta was incredible, both entrees very unique and the pineapple dessert is special. Highly recommend and can't wait for next visit.
