Antica Pesa Roma Reviews from The Last Year
Optimal
Everything perfect, one of the best in Rome both for the typicality of the Roman dishes and for the restaurant with its authentic style
Go somewhere - anywhere else
After seeing some online recommendations I booked this restaurant well in advance for our 40th birthday celebration. The restaurant opened 15 minutes after our booked time, and after waiting outside in the rain we were then left waiting in seated area (where all the photos of celebrities were) for another 10 minutes. Maybe as we were a small table they didn’t feel the need to make an effort to be polite and attentive as they were with larger tables. Food was cold, overcooked and bland. Actually the worst meal we have ever had. What a massive disappointment Massively overpriced, and unfriendly atmosphere could not leave quick enough and left hungry. How this place has a Michelin star I do not know. Would not recommend
Fabulous atmosphere
Perfect for a romantic dinner, beautiful setting, especially with the roof often. Flavours in the food amazing, service staff excellent and a pretty thick wine menu! Good info on allergens for those who need it.
Overrated, underwhelming and no taste
Extremely overrated experience for a very VERY underwhelming gastronomic experience. The place seems tired, the short food menu, in paper and in quality, is so pretentious and the same time so…bleh. Had the lasagnetta, a corny fried interpretation of a lasagna and then the horrendous braised beef, cooked dry and with the most bland sauce ever. All in all, a tremendous waste of time, calories, and whatever second you spend in there. Positive point? The Avana cigar dessert barely makes it. michelin who? Run away
Very disappointed
In my research to prepare our trip to Rome, the Antica Pesa seemed like a must-have and we were very disappointed… The place is beautiful, the servers pleasant but the quality/price ratio of the food is very disappointing (22€ for a mini burger as a starter, 5€ for bread, 10€ for cutlery per person, 4€ for coffee, wine list much too expensive and dishes too expensive for the quality of the service) In total we paid €170 as a couple for 1 bottle of wine, 2 starters, 2 main courses and a coffee. In my eyes, it is a tourist trap and I advise you to avoid this type of establishment in favor of places more typical of Rome such as trattorias/osterias.
Sin
Beautiful restaurant in one of the historic districts of Rome Banal cuisine and amateur service they ruined expectations You eat better and spend less In many other restaurants in the area Such a pity
Top
We found ourselves in this place, both out of curiosity and for the advertising made by the people who have been there... truly extraordinary evening, from the service to the dishes, nothing is left to chance, and let's not talk about the person who makes you feel at home he is very professional.. Top Top Top.. I hope to return as soon as possible!!
One of the Best!
One of the best restaurants we have visited. The attention to detail is extraordinary and the food is quite simply delicious. The service from font of house is excellent, wine selections that are sensible match the food brilliantly. If that’s the food….the art work on the walls is worth a visit. Great experience.
Nice evening with friends
Beautiful location, refined environment and if you happen to meet some VIPs, courteous service Innovative cuisine with some traditional dishes, well cooked. Exquisite desserts. Excellent wine cellar but disproportionate prices.
A boring experience
My birthday dinner, 67 years nothing special but....very nice treatment initially. The waiters were attentive, everything was delivered immediately and in a pleasant way. We had an aperitif, a bottle of wine, starter, pasta, main course, a glass of wine, cheese, coffee and grappa. After the pasta, the restaurant was filled with a larger party and a couple, which created a lot of stress for the serving staff. A small man in a black suit appeared, constantly circling between the larger party and the couple. He was happy to do that, we thought that he had some kind of ownership responsibility for the restaurant and had a need to give them extra attention. A bit unusual for us Swedes, but perfectly fine. The problem was that all the other staff hung up. Those who we perceived as our waiters let us down completely. They stopped refilling our wine glasses (too bad for them, we would have easily ordered another bottle if anyone had bothered) our main course was thrown out without any direct presentation. While we were eating, the waiters and the little man ran between the larger party and the couple. We were air. The waiters were also stressed, discussing a lot with each other and panting when they ran past us. Once we managed to order the cheese and wine we wanted for dessert, the cheese was delivered to a poor man who didn't know anything about the cheeses he was offering. We got to watch as he was reprimanded and then given a proper presentation. We were seated without attention for a long time and got to experience the nice attention that the larger party and the couple received from everyone present and some additional staff. I had a blast and described to a waiter how we felt neglected as guests. We received an apology but really cannot recommend the restaurant despite very good food and drinks. I understand that our financial contribution as tourists is not as important as that of local customers but then the restaurant should not even approach us. Incidentally, also a fantastic venue but it all came to nothing…..
To discover an institution
Very nice experience in a legendary place to do it is an institution the impeccable service the maître d' Paris speaks 4 languages recommended a great evening in an original setting
Totally overpriced for the quality and kitchen performance
The restaurant was touted to us as the best in the area. The Michelin awards in the lobby gave us great hope. But: The starters were OK. They just lacked the kick and the sauces and taste experiences of top cuisine. Main courses were mixed. The lamb, which was cooked for a long time and slowly, was bloody 🤦🏻 ♂️ and raw. The tartare was OK, but not top-class in terms of taste. Pasta was OK too, anyone can make it. But now the price: TOTALLY OVERPRICED FOR THIS QUALITY.
Simplicity
The friendly and "not heavy" atmosphere certainly makes dinner in the old-fashioned way pleasant. Simplicity also reigns in the dishes, this is certainly an advantage, even if I expected a minimum of "wow effect" from a restaurant like this. However, an excellent memory of well-cooked dishes in a warm and welcoming atmosphere remains. The only downside was the rush in having to pay with the employee who, after bringing the bill to the table, remained there and immediately asked for the balance, waiting at the table with the POS in hand. It is not a criticism but a simple personal opinion in liking a different attitude.
Too bad, the clothes don't make the monk!
during a medical conference, invited for the conference speakers' dinner, I imagine that a high-level surprise coup was sought, I note the owner and the restaurant in Trastevere. Alas, bitter disappointment, perhaps also given the expectations and a kilometer walk through Trastevere. From a public figure of this level, very pleasant at the entrance, even for the ritual photo, I expected a high level dinner (I didn't pay though!), small portions, poorly cooked, poorly cared for and not very tasty! At a certain point we looked at each other among the diners... and it was enough: a shame really, because the alternatives (known to me!) in Trastevere were "surefire"
Top level
Excellent restaurant that combines tradition and innovation: traditional Roman dishes revisited without distorting them. An excellent tripe tacos (very good with mint flavour), a taste of excellently cooked carbonara and a very enjoyable beef tartare with black truffle (in large quantities). All accompanied by excellent wines (high quality list) suggested by the waiter and warm homemade bread (to be savored with excellent oil). Good service. Historic location. High prices
Ancient trattoria that combines quality with good cuisine
The ancient weighbridge is located in Trastevere in the place where until the first half of the 19th century there was a customs house of the Papal State where the grain was weighed to allow the collection of taxes and in front of the Podgora Barracks where Mussolini was taken on 25 July 1943 after the arrest. The restaurant, often frequented by celebrities from the world of cinema, such as Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro and George Clooney, has been owned for more than a century by the Panella family and is today managed by the Simone brothers, who are entrusted with the kitchen and Francesco, a well-known face on TV, who is in charge of the room. The cuisine is classic Roman cuisine prepared with quality raw materials and with a pinch of creativity that makes it more current and lighter. The appetizers are delicious such as the hot buffalo mozzarella in crunchy pastry or the mini burger with San Biagio sausage, provola, sautéed chicory and the excellent ketchup they produce or the artichoke in three consistencies, while for the first courses beyond the classics of Roman cuisine, good cuttlefish ink shells with mussels and potato cream. The desserts are simple but good, especially the ricotta semifreddo. Very extensive wine list thanks to the beautiful cellar which should be visited. Attentive and professional service.
I removed a star for being seated at a weird table near
I removed a star for being seated at a weird table near server stand. I hate weird placement of tables. I did enjoy the artwork throughout the restaurant. We started with the baked buffalo mozzarella. We found this to be delicious. I had the smoked duck breast. The combination of duck, honey mustard, and fig crumble had my taste buds dancing with pure joy. Highly recommend. The handmade tagliatella with mushroom sauce was delightful. We also had the chitarra alla carbonara but found it to be slightly salty. Overall, I would go back just for the duck!
So disappointed.
We were expecting a Great service and amazing food, but sadly we had average flavors/food and a lack of service/engagement. We got served, twice, wrong dishes and we had to ask/look for the waiter three times to ask for drinks. This experience is far from a Michelin Star restaurant experience, and we saw other tables complaining as well. Very disappointed.
4.5 stars for this fabulous spot! My husband and I went
4.5 stars for this fabulous spot! My husband and I went here based off a recommendation for the first night of our honeymoon. The vibe, setting and staff are all too notch. We enjoyed a prosciutto appetizer and cocktails and moved onto pasta and grouper for our mains. The dish may have been the star of the show! We had a fresh berry and sorbet dessert and would certainly come back.
Sixteen years ago we ate here and loved it so much we went
Sixteen years ago we ate here and loved it so much we went back the following night! This time the experience was the opposite, we couldn't get out fast enough. Starting with the positive, the food was excellent, the pasta was amazing and chicken was soft and tender. It didn't matter because the patio atmosphere was less inviting than remembered, possibly because they had several large parties going on and the people at the table next to us chain smoked throughout dinner. Seeing me look at the large wine list our server recommended a wine, I think it was the house wine, even though we would've picked something more special (i.e. more expensive). The wine was undrinkable, this was the first time we ever rejected a wine recommended by a restaurant. Where is the sommelier? Later the server came and asked what we wanted for dessert, but our entree hadn't arrived at the table yet. From start to finish the entire experience was awful. What a shame that a restaurant like this can go from great to bad. Truly a disappointment.
Located far away from the touristy section of Trastevere,
Located far away from the touristy section of Trastevere, and most likely a taxi ride away from wherever you are, this is a perplexing venue. When we mentioned to a couple of locals that we were going to this place for dinner, the consensus reaction was that it is a great place to visit. So, the lukewarm reviews on yelp made me a little wary before making a reservation for dinner here. Given the fact that this is a destination for many celebrities, which is backed up by the myriad of photos of the owner and name-that-celebrity adorning the walls of the waiting area, one would assume that this Michelin-starred restaurant would serve up top notch cuisine. But, alas, that is not the case. The menu wants to be original and creative, and the descriptions of the limited selections are just that. However, the execution is far from what you would expect from a Michelin restaurant. The star must be a function of its reputation as well as the extent of the wine list. In fact, the server described the wine list as a Bible. But the food was mediocre, if not unappetizing entirely. In fact, the tuna tasted a bit like...body lotion? Strange. Were it not for the impeccable service, the amazing decor, and the ambience of the courtyard, this would actually be a 2 rating. But, it is elevated to a 3 because of the overall experience. I don't know that I would recommend this to people who are looking for a stellar meal, but if people are looking for a good dining experience, I might give this a tepid recommendation.
