tiny space, hot place -- ariari def has some great dishes on its menu. we started with the scallops and that honestly brought our night to such a good start, they were sooo fresh and fun to assemble our own little mini handroll together. fried soft shell crab was also great -- super crunchy and paired well w the spicy mayo. the famed uni rice was honestly a let-down -- uni flavor didn't come thru but overall a good rice dish. the beef stew had really chewy beef which we didn't enjoy, and i think they could have stronger desserts. overall, great for their highlights but i don't think i'd come again.

The cocktails are wonderful and the service is super friendly and helpful. While essentially Korean, the food is not entirely traditional Korean. It is Asian fusion with Korean flavors, ingredients and techniques. The restaurant is very modern in style, although a bit small. Ariari is a good value for the money proposition as well. Go with a group so you can taste a wide variety of different dishes.

i've been trying to come here for ages and it was so worth the trip. i waited for reservations to open and snagged a corner table. we ordered what felt like everything on the menu. the stand outs were the soft shell crab and the raw scallops. we cant wait to come back and try everything else
Be the first to ReplyThe food at Ariari is actually to die for.
I was able to get a table without a reservation, but that was nothing short of a miracle. I had the seafood stew, as well as the DIY scallop roll. The service is outstanding, and despite the small size of the restaurant, the vibe is really nice.
Be the first to ReplyHad reservation and was seated right away when we arrived.
Its our first time here, so we order the things that are familiar to us. Creme brulee, and seafood udon. But we wanted more, gladly the server was kind and help us with the menu. In addition, we had soft shell crab, beef su-yuk, and monk fish. All were good, but not anything so unique and mind blowing.

Totally understand why reservations here fill up so quickly - the food is delicious! I made a reservation for Ariari right when the date opened up on Resy, and within the first few minutes, some of the time slots were taken already! But it is well worth the effort to make the resy. 2-3 plates are recommended per person, and the portions are decently sized for tapas. My friend and I split the DIY scallop gimbab with uni, yookhoe, fried soft shell crab, and the dolsot al-bab. There isn't really any banchan per se, but their kimchi is really well seasoned and tasty. DIY scallop gimbab was easily a favorite for me. The scallops & uni were both fresh, and I really enjoyed the DIY aspect. Yookhoe is well seasoned, fried soft shell crab is super crispy and tasty, and the dolsot al-bab just rounds it out perfectly with some carbs. Service here is A++. The staff allowed me sit inside first while waiting for my friend even though I've read that they try to stick to the 2-hr dining limit. Ambiance is cozy; the restaurant is actually smaller than I expected, which makes getting a resy a must. They do have an outside dining shed, but I much prefer being indoors!

My family from New York took me here and my bro in law is originally from Busan so he's very particular for food and this restaurant is supposedly Busan inspired so we wanted to try it out, hands down one of the best Korean restaurants! It was not too much but just right, even if you're not very familiar with all these unusual Korean foods, you'll enjoy them. We had some spicy fish soup, normally they boil them with left over fish bones in Korea after you eat raw fish, their soup still had that very typical spice and taste but it wasn't too much. It was my favorite next time I'll definitely come back and try other dishes too. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. It felt like a small eatery in Korea.
Be the first to ReplyReally cozy spot - delicious Korean food.
Definitely come with a group so you can order everything

We sat outside in a covered dining area and it was warm and cozy despite it being winter. Servers were very attentive and always filled up our waters or provided extra napkins when things got messy. ARIARI presents a creative spin on Korean flavors. We ordered the raw scallop create your own gimbap (with apple kimchi; I don't usually like apples but this was so good!), dolsot (creamy and roe provided a good texture), and fried soft shell crab (fried to perfection). Everything was delicious and I definitely want to come back to try other menu items!

Surprisingly, I was able to get a table without a reservation and without much of a wait. They recommended ~2 dishes per person to share, but my party of 3 was comfortably full with 5 dishes (though some of them were larger mains). They started us off with some homemade fresh kimchi salad, which was fresh Napa cabbage tossed in a spicy-creamy-kimchi sauce (not fermented). We also got the Yook-Hoe for starters, and it featured a beef tartare and (cooked) octopus in a sesame oil and topped with fried shallots. While I appreciated the seasoning and the chewiness of the meat, it felt like something was missing - perhaps a carrier like chips/bread/etc. I've never had duck bulgolgi and it was very tender. The sauce had a familiar gochujang taste instead of the classic bulgolgi sauce. The Dolsot Al-Bap was the star of the show! I normally don't love adding uni onto dishes because it can overshadow things, but this time, it definitely accentuated the thicc urchin cream. If you are a fan of fish roe, this dish is for you too! I only wish they had a little more seaweed in the mix. The Glazed Jang-Eo was a combination of a lightly battered and fried eel and eggplant, glazed in a sweet and sticky sauce. My only wish was that it had more eel pieces, as a large portion of pieces were eggplant. Lastly, the Hap-Cheon Pork Soup was a hearty, savory, umami soup with a light herbal taste and tender slices of different cuts of pork. Some might argue it is on the saltier side, but it was perfectly balanced for me. For drinks, the Kket-Nip was sweet and refreshing because of the incorporation of the perilla leaves. The Doraji was more on the bitter side, but it was still tasty overall. The restaurant itself had a homey and intimate vibe. Service was great and the servers were very attentive to our needs.

Everything we got here was so good! A very welcome addition of modern but authentic Korean food to the city. Vibe is like a casual gastropub and you are a given a loud, enthusiastic welcome when you first enter! The service was on point and very accommodating.BEEF SOUP - robust, flavorful, fresh vegetables and flavorful beef.LOTUS ROOT SALAD* - one of the highlights with a savory, salty flavor with soft but a delicate crunch at the same time (think asian salads with marinated potato slices sort of texture, flavor) UNI AL BAP ** - so so good, love the bits of crunch that the roe offers and the creaminess of the sauce with the perfect cooked texture of the rice. PORK AND FRIED SQUID ** - classic Korean heat marinates the pork that underlies a frittery, satisfyingly chewy squid on top. Such a good savory option to drive the meal homeCORN CREME BRULEE ** - not warm, but still so so good, with a nice sweet corn flavor throughout and a satisfying, crunchy, flambeed exterior.
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal shared on a weekday evening.
I'd say the food was overly fried for my taste, but that was also mostly what we ordered, so can't really fault them for that. The fried chicken, the seafood pancake, the lamb-stuffed peppers, and the complementary salad were all great. We ended with the bulgogi (yum) and the seafood udon (yes!), and those dishes were the most substantive and flavorful without being fried. Is probably lean on those if I were to come back.Service was attentive and friendly. The ambiance was cool, though the music got really loud at around 7pm. Didn't seem necessary, in my opinion.Solid place, would go back if someone was adamant about it, but don't feel like the meal knocked my socks off enough that I'd instigate a return.

My friends and I came here for dinner and were so impressed!! We didn't have a reservation, but I stopped by at 6 to put our name down for 3 and we actually had an availability only 15 min after. They usually just have a shorter time frame that you can stay because they need the table for a reservation later. We did family style and got the Beef Tartare, Soft Shell Crab, Hap Cheon Pork Soup, Spicy Pork, Salmon Hwe-Muchim and Grilled Chicken Skewers. Everything was so unique, fancy and delicious! The portions are small and it's definitely on the pricier side. My favorite were the Beef Tartare and Spicy Pork. The pork soup was also very delicious and soothing. The salmon was probably my least favorite as it was good, but you have to eat it very fast as the ice kind of waters down the flavor. Service was great, though they say some super loud greeting every time someone walks in which I didn't love. Overall, definitely worth the try!
Be the first to ReplyHonestly the best Busan cuisine I had in the states.
I'm born in Busan and they really did an amazing job of recreating the dishes. The raw sashimi was straight from Korea which made me feel like I was actually in Korea. Other hot pot and side dishes like soft shell crab was the best fried food I had in nyc. From all the hot pots, I recommend the pork soup because it taste just like soup you will have in Busan. I'm literally going to ariari every two weeks because I live their food. Seriously I recommend this place with my heart:
Be the first to ReplyI made reservations about a week before I came.
I liked the dolsot which is creamy rice with fish roe and the corn creme brรปlรฉe dessert. I thought that the eel eggplant was good but it was too fried for my taste. The portions are on the small side for the price. They also give a complimentary salad. I would recommend the corn creme brรปlรฉe the most. The service is great and it's a small restaurant with a dark ambiance. I could see why this place has four stars because of the uniqueness of the food and the service is good, but the food is not extraordinary.

My family and I were so excited to try this restaurant! I never got a chance to try Taj Campton restaurant before it shutdown so I was excited to hear that Chef was going to work a new project! I love this food and it's cool seeing it highlighted with fine dining.
Be the first to ReplyAs a Korean person, I can confidently say that Ariari is
As a Korean person, I can confidently say that Ariari is one of the best, if not the best, Korean restaurants in NYC. Although some may argue it's pricey for the portions, the distinctive experience Ariari offers is most definitely worth it. They serve a unique variety of Busan-inspired dishes that you can't find anywhere else in the city. They have a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere with attentive staff, which is a huge plus ! Most importantly, the food is AMAZING. Here is a few of my favorites: The yukhwe is my favorite dish and the best beef tartar I've ever had in my entire life. I will request this on my deathbed. I would sacrifice my kidney if it meant I could eat it everyday for the rest of my life. I will literally do anything for this dish. Words can't even explain how seriously spectacular this dish is. You are truly missing out if you don't order this !! Any of their fried dishes are amazing, especially the fried chicken and the fried soft shell crab. The fried chicken is the best fried chicken I've ever had ! It has a perfect satisfying crunch that I've never been able to find anywhere else. From the subtle curry flavor to the wonderful gochugaru mayo sauce on the side, everything about the chicken SO GOOD !! Absolutely flawless. Like please how could you say no to crunchy delicious chicken !!!!! Their signature Busan-traditional dishes, the Hap-Cheon Pork Soup and the Makhwe, are both spectacular. They are both a must-order, especially to feel the true essence of Busan. The makhwe is so refreshing, and I love the way the different cuts of fish compliment each other. The sauces that come on the side are amazing too, especially the chojang ! Overall, my favorite saam dish in all of NYC ! Undeniably a must-have. I recommend ordering a Daeson soju too ! Busan soju will obviously pair effortlessly with Busan cuisine. Even better, the soju goes well with their shaved ice dessert. So make sure to order dessert at the end !! The other dessert, the creme brulee, is to die for. If you like Korean corn ice cream, you will love the corn creme brulee. Even if you don't know what that is, you should still try it ! Honestly I love it here so much. I've been here at least a dozen times and all the dishes are fantastic !!!! If you're nearby you need to pay a visit to Ariari !! You will not regret it :D 100/10
Be the first to Replymixed feelings but I'd definitely come back again.
.. I would give this place between 3.5 and 4 stars. the hospitality is pretty good, the food comes out extremely fast and they're very attentive. the vibes are good. my favorite is the lamb stuffed fried peppers, these are so yummy and I'll go back just to order them. really great texture and the lamb is juicy. the yook hwe (octopus and beef tartare) is also good, really good texture and my first time trying raw beef which I enjoyed. some of the items on the menu are just okay or not that special/worth it. dolsot al bap wasn't that good, it wasn't worth it. cool presentation and decent taste but not that flavorful and it got dry quickly. the seafood udon was good but nothing particularly special, although I would still recommend it as a pretty solid option if you go, just not amazing. I didn't think the omija bingsoo was worth the price, it was just tart flavored ice and the texture of the ice wasn't great; I've had better bingsoo. too simple of a dish, maybe some toppings would help. cocktails were good! I'll go back despite some mediocre dishes to eat the lamb stuffed peppers again and try other menu items
Be the first to ReplyYou people are tripping giving this place 4 or 5 stars.
The food is the most important aspect of a restaurant. The food at ariari was not good.Makhwe was cut like someone took a wood chipper to half a fish, some of the pieces were not that great, and the chojang was weirdly gritty. The ssamjang was tasty according to my wife but she has trash taste, trust me when I say it was mediocre at best. Al bap was so mediocre and one-dimensional, I dare say this was pure trash. You want a great seafood rice dish, go to Osamil and get their uni bibimbap. Haemul jeon was ok, great texture and chew. Too bad it was saltier than chugging ocean water... My blood pressure doubled from the time I ate my first bite of jeon to the last bite of the first slice. I'm trash so I hatefully ate another slice but no one needs to know about that in this review. Pork soup was entirely mediocre and kind of bland if nothing else. They added buchu Kimchi on top of the soup becuase traditionally it balances out the fatty heavy flavor of the pork broth, but in this case all you could taste was the Kimchi seasoning, utterly dominating the broth. One interesting note is that despite our overzealous server telling us that the soup was ready to eat as soon as it came to our table, it as 100 times better tasting approximately 20 min later, when the chemical lighter at the table was all but extinguished and the broth was reduced approximately 30%. Still, even at the end of its reduction and stewing down, this went from sheer trash to edible. Squid and pork bokum was not the right flavor at all. You know when you repurpose leftovers for an entirely different role in a new dish the next day? For example taking leftover mcdz nuggets and using them as the protein component of your post-mcdz-nut-clarity shame-filled healthy balsamic glazed Kale salad the following day.. You can still tell it's chopped up chicken nuggets and you're fooling no one, not least yourself. Similarly the sauce in this dish was weirdly bitter, the pork was weirdly over-smoked and a bit old-tasting, the squid was battered and calamari-ed for no reason other than to be different I assume. An entirely 0/10 dish. Sheer garbage honestly. Lotus root salad was ok, if not for the absurdly overpowering sweet sauce glazed over the whole thing. Chicken with mashed potatoes was so boring I nearly went unconscious after the first bite. I thought I was at pf changs for a second, the teriyaki sauce that has nothing to do with Korean cuisine just coating the inside of my mouth and slowly oozing down my esophagus. It was like eating a boat anchor with every dense, hate-filled bite. Way too sweet and the potatoes acted as a wonderful caulking agent gluing my teeth to the chicken. Omija bingsoo was extremely rough cut shaved ice (presumably to evoke old school vibes?) with some Omija juice soaked into it. Reminiscent of leftover plowed snow on the side of a road about one week after a snow storm. So mediocre and lazy. Corn creme brulee was possibly the most edible thing all meal, and yet it too evoked pure sadness. Sadness, from being utterly neglected by the flavor gods. As far as the vibe goes it was ok, they play retro Korean 90s and early 2k songs if you have trash taste in music and that's your thing. The service was weirdly over attentive to the point of being invasive on our table conversation, but only for the first 10 minutes. Then the service all but stopped. I thought the ambience was ok otherwise, besides some chick loudly proclaiming that her pork was the greatest thing she'd ever eaten since she was under 200 lbs. Between the mediocre food and social media hype this restaurant was a complete and total letdown. Everything tasted like Korean food, as cooked by an inexperienced chef equipped with a "how to cook Asian food" recipe book. Granted this is in st mark's not ktown, but still. Even people down here know what Korean food is supposed to taste like. 1.5/10 mostly trash. St. Marks is home to many wonderful restaurants, this place is a waste of precious space in this area.
Be the first to ReplyCharming Korean restaurant tucked away in the bustling EV
Charming Korean restaurant tucked away in the bustling EV neighborhood. This restaurant differentiates itself from other notable Korean players in the city, with its focus on Busan cuisine. The restaurant itself is small, and the crowd it attracts is bustling. I was very lucky to snag a coveted resy here on a Thursday. All in all, I thought the food was good but not fantastic (don't blast me here). My sister and I came here on a Thursday evening and started off with their berry lemonade. Refreshing, crisp and straightforward. We then moved onto shareable apps. We got the Mak Hwe (fantastic 5/5), Salmon Hwe Muchim (3.5/5, a little gimmicky and a little sweet for me) and Fried Soft Shell Crab (5/5, cooked perfectly). We then moved onto our one main/soup, the Seafood Stew (4.5/5, very flavorful and full of seafood). We ended our food journey with a Corn Brulee (3.5/5, tasty but sister makes a killer creme brulee so a little biased here).Given all the hype of this restaurant, I think I was expecting a little more. Unlike other restaurants, there weren't offerings of banchan outside of a cabbage salad (no kimchi!), and something about the food didn't feel as homey as I was expecting.Overall, it was still a good meal and would recommend this restaurant, but I wouldn't bend over backwards to get a reservation here. Cheers! (4/5)
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful experience and a delicious meal! My best friend
A wonderful experience and a delicious meal! My best friend and I got a dinner reservation at ARIARI to celebrate my birthday. We came on a super cold, snowy/rainy night. The mood was set as soon as we were warmly welcomed by all the cooks and staff after the person at the door announced "์๋์ด ์ค์ จ์ต๋๋ค" (Korean for "a guest has arrived"). It was a fun start to the overall experience!A server quickly came to give us a brief overview of the menu and some of her recs. Within ~ 20 minutes, our food and drinks began to come out.* Mak-Hwe: 10/10 - one of our favorite dishes of the night; really simple and no frills - just yummy, fresh, clean-tasting fish* Yook-Hwe (์กํ) (beef tartare with blanched baby octopus, crispy onion, seaweed mayo): 10/10 - I'm not usually a huge fan of ์กํ but this dish ended up being one of our favorites; super flavorful and the texture of the crispy onions really took it to another level* Fried Soft-Shell Crab: 8/10 - the scallion yuja aioli it comes with was what really won us over for this particular dish* Glazed Jang-eo (eel): 5/10 - good but didn't blow our minds; frankly, we barely touched it because our focus was set on the other amazing dishes* Dolsot Al-Bap (bibimbap + roe + sea urchin cream): 9/10 - I don't typically love uni but the uni cream that is mixed into this rice dish by the server at the table was somehow both rich and mild, sweet and salty, and just so flavorful.* Seafood Stew: 10/10 - the broth was impeccable and the spice and flavor pack a punch; incredible on such a cold, snowy night* Omija Bingsoo: 7/10 - tangy and subtly sweet; nothing groundbreaking per se but a nice, refreshing end to the meal as a palate cleanser (+ birthday candle)* Cocktails: Maesil + Doraji - 8/10Overall, the food was solid and we enjoyed the ambiance of the place. The only minor negative point was that it was sometimes fairly difficult to get the servers' attention during the meal if we needed to ask for anything. Eagerly looking forward to coming back to try some of the dishes we didn't get this time around!! (And hoping they start to sell the T-shirts the servers wear because I would totally buy one!)

You will be rewarded. The food is one of a kind. The service is warm and informative. The atmosphere is ideal. My new favorite place in New York.
