Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa Kapolei Reviews from The Last Year

I can not say enough about how family friendly the Aulani is. Little bit of Disney but not enough to make you puke. We had a wonderful time. Plenty of activities, some that are included with your stay and even more that are not. Expect to spend around 150+ for every meal with a family of 5. (Kids are 9 and under here) Would recommend finding a store near by to purchase snacks and drinks. For the morning and afternoon. Leave your reusable cups( Stanley/yeti) at home as you will be forced to buy a new one. Spend thousands on a trip and youโll be paying $6 extra for every cup of coffee. ๐คฆ โ๏ธ. If you want seats at the pool and beach you will need to be up by 7:30 and ready to โsaveโ ward off other guests. Once your territory is claimed you will be ready for the day.
this place is absolutely beautiful and we loved it!!!!
this place is absolutely beautiful and we loved it!!!! everything is top notch!!! we stayed at the one bedroom villa and it was beautiful!!!! sooo worth it!!! our kids loooved the toddler splash pads and pools!!! and everything is just soo cool so many pictures to take and characters to meet!!! the staff is so friendly and very fast service and everything was very clean! theres these lagoons too and a private beach!! so cool!! and a lazy river!! theres this rainbow reef here too and that is so cool!! The resort is gorgeous in of course Disney theme everywhere. Everything is well maintained and clean everywhere. There's Disney touches everywhere you look. The pool area is huge. I don't even know how many pools & hot tubs there are but there is alot!! so much to explore and try!! Plus a water slide, a lazy river soo cool! and a snorkeling pool with fish & a few water play area just for young kids which our kids loved loved loved loved!! so many characters that u can take pics with which is awesome!!! Overall, this was a once in a lifetime experience that made for very good memories captured in pictures that we'll cherish. totally recommend it for sure!!' must must must!
First time at Aulani and we stayed for 5 nights.
Arrival: From the airport Aulani has a partner shuttle that we booked (it was about $30 per person one way). Shuttle was easy and convenient. Check in: After the shuttle dropped me off at the front of the hotel, I made my way to check into my room. Check in desk was really friendly and they had my room ready early which was super convenient. They gave me cute buttons to keep as a memento. Tip: Ask for a paper map of the hotel and it serves as another nice keepsake. Tip: + Make reservations for things early! (eg: daily activities, spa, luau - because things fill up.) I was surprised since we booked during off season. + Grab the refillable Aulani cup at Ulu cafe - they have a few drink stations throughout and its good for soft drinks, tea and coffee. The stainless steel cup was around $35 but they also have plastic ones at a cheaper price. The stainless steel cup is really nice and keeps drinks cold, but we had problems with the lid leaking. + You can get your pool bracelets the day before for the next day if you don't want to deal with it on the day of. Loves: + Ka Maka grotto - this one was warmer than the other main pool and the view from the infinity pool was really nice + adults only whirpool spa area - super relaxing if you need a break from the cute kiddos. Spent a good amount of time here with my kindle books on my phone. + coconut shrimp from mama's snack stop - yum + Character Breakfast - totally worth it to see the characters and get additional photos with the family and kids. +Laniwai Spa - worth it and so relaxing +Staff was very welcoming and friendly throughout the hotel. They gave my baby sisters lots of stickers if you talk to them. Cons: + Food is pretty pricey in Aulani, I ended up eating most meals outside the resort at the plaza across the street. + Activities filled up fast (eg: ukelele, drawing animation classes) - I actually wasn't able to do any of the included activities in this resort and the paid ones didn't seem that great/worth it. + Mickey shaved ice is cute but also the worst shaved ice I've had in Hawaii. + Shirts/Merch at the store is also on the high side. $85 for a long sleeve shirt with big Aulani letters?...sigh.... I opted for the wallet - $65 + Luau - I was actually pretty disappointed in the luau - it felt long and was kind of boring (too much talking) the buffet also closes up super fast so if you want a second helping/dessert better grab it quickly! Polynesian Cultural Center is a lot better if you get a chance to go and visit. + They had a cool disney movie night but we couldn't make that day. Wish they had movie night more than once a week. Overall, I can see the appeal for children or Disney lovers. TBH, I'm not sure if I would stay here again for as long as I did. Maybe a night or two would have been good. Because it's a pretty penny compared to some of the other amazing resorts I've been to, but it was fun and a nice family friendly option and everyone has different experiences because they change up activities every day!
Not enough things for adults to do at the resort.
This was our 5th trip here. We just wanted to relax at the pool. We know the lazy river and slides is crowded with families and we do enjoy them. However we wanted a quiet place to read and enjoy pool time without kids screaming and splashing. We really wish they would bring back the adults only pool and chairs at Wailana. The adult only whirlpool is always crowded and you cannot swim in it. Plus we did see children in it and someone had to get a cast member to remove them. We have stayed at Turtle Bay Resort and other resorts on other Hawaiian islands and have enjoyed adult only pools areas. We also wish the two sit down restaurants would have a la carte menus. We enjoy the prix fixe menus, but it is nice to have more options. We ate next door at the Four Seasons on this trip and enjoyed more choices. We booked an ocean view studio. Room was comfortable and clean. We love the new Mฤlie products in the rooms. Cast members are all so friendly. We enjoy talking with them.
Would recommend!
Loved. Our stay at Aulani. It was our first time here and it did not disappoint. We have expedited many Disney properties and this was true to the Disney hospitality feel but was also very respectful to the Hawaiian culture. Great for families but even if you are adults with no children the adult pools, and spa are a must. You are also close to many activitรฉs of site via a car. Would recommend!
Too little for too much money. Basic.
This hotel is an old hotel and is extremely large. It is not a luxury experience by any means. It has no room service and except for one sit down character breakfast that you need to make reservations for a month in advance. Youโre eating food from to go venues. It is very expensive for families, although thereโs a refrigerating, the standard rooms and a small kitchen in the suites, the on-site Store has extremely limited options of groceries. The elevator are backed up with people waiting at times for quite a long time to get to their room. Because of how extremely large the hotel is, the beach chairs are taken early in the morning. The pools are crowded. Experiences extremely expensive. We had four adults and two children before the character and it was over $$350. The next day we ordered two full breakfast plus extra bacon and for coffees and it was $100. The cost of the room would be prohibited for most families. The kids did enjoy the character breakfast, and the experience of being with family at the resort.I donโt think weโll be coming back to this hotel because the experience price ratio did not work. It was intense underwhelming.
Best Hotel In Hawaii! Best Grounds Most Stuff to Do!
Best Hotel In Hawaii! Best Grounds Most Stuff to Do! Pros beautiful lagoon, lazy river, Infiniti pool, adult and kids jacuzzi, Moana Luau, Charachter Breakfast, Modern Hawaiian Art, Beach Dining, Ocean BBq grills, Cons away from town so it's perfectly quiet with great breeze and local music usually eveyday they have live music and Disney Shows they offer local discounts for rooms and Winter Specials which I use all the time!!! Cons it's crowded esp summer and holidays, food is limited and that's why I recommend I bedroom villa if u can afford it because u can pack ur fridge and eat at home for cheap and just buy stuff like Mickey Mouse shave ice and ice cream etc but everything Elise make at home and bring home leftovers full kitchen washer dryer large jacuzzi bath 450 sw foot lanai, dishwasher microwave oven and a rice maker them eat at the room or take it out on the beach or BBQ!! They even help clean up!! Yay Disney.. The Luau is bomb and pricey sometimes u can see it from your room lmao that's how we save money here!! Anyways beach is gorgeous clean as a whistle as everything else is in Koolina and it's breath of fresh air!! Koolina take me Home!!!
I stayed at Aulani 3 nights.
This was my 2nd visit. Our carpet in our room was wet and i asked for a fan to dry it. The staff did not seem to care. They brought a fan which helped after about 2 hrs of blowing on the carpet. They never offered to put me in another room. I had to go to the front desk and ask to moved if it didn't dry. We had dinner at Makahiki Restaurant for my Granddaughters Birthday. 3 of our steaks were over cooked. Dinner was much better my last vist 2 years ago. The staff at Makahiki were excellent. A couple of front desk staff were not Very friendly all the others were awesome. Valet staff Excellent. We also had the Character breakfast which was good. The staff through out the resort makes you feel welcome. The Snack Shack by the pool. I ordered fish and chips and we took a bite and tossed it. I usually love fish and chips. The kind of fish they used did not taste good. The beach and pools amazing. I was sent a survey by Aluani but timed out after 5 days..... Not sure if I will return.
Amazing wedding! ADA accomodations - NOT
Attended an amazing wedding at Aulani. Reserved rooms at least 1 year in advance. Could not obtain ADA room on first night. King bed in standard room is so high with pedestal & high (~16) mattress with box spring. No bedrailing to accomodate that high of mattress. Bathtub was so tall on on the side walls and deep that it's very difficult for fit people to get in. We requested a side chair. Was able to move to ADA room on second night. For the cost of hotel you would think you can obtain at least a necessary federal amenity, especially reserving 1 year in advance. Very disappointed for a huge resort.
The greatness you'd expect from Disney.
Unbelievable stay. The water park attractions were loads of fun. The food was amazing. And being able to just walk right out onto the beach was incredible. The service was top notch. There was an issue with our luau reservation but we were helped by Mitsuko (It may have been Misuko) and she got everything cleared up. Amazing service for an amazing stay.
Our Aulani stay!
We had a wonderful 6 night stay at Aulani. The lazy river is amazing and the infinity hot tub is a must do located in the over 18 and only section. Our room was a partial ocean view room and was located on the 8th floor. We had views of both the ocean and mountains. I would recommend this resort as it was both relaxing and close to a lot of amazing sites.
Family friendly and GORGEOUS!
This is a beautiful resort located on the lagoon of KoโOlina on the Island of Oahu. It definitely reflects the culture of Hawaii. KoโOlina is a quiet area away from the bustling Waikiki traffic. The restaurants at Aulani were nice. The food was tasty and plentiful. The touch of Disney was nicely incorporated, but the Hawaiian culture was definitely magnified throughout the resort and in the offerings at the restaurants. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. It was fun to see the Disney Characters throughout the day and the Pool Parties were fun for the kids. Disney enthusiasts will enjoy the touch of Disney but it definitely is not the focus. If you are looking for a kid free/ family unfriendly resort then you should look elsewhere. This is a wonderful place for people to go with a multigenerational family because there is something for everyone. We definitely plan to return!
Being first-time visitors to the Aulani, we were not aware
Being first-time visitors to the Aulani, we were not aware Aulani hosts filming of AMERICAN IDOL on the beach for a week in early February. The hotel did notify us in late November that there would be a TV production happening on part of the beach for 2 days. There must be very unhappy guests every year, because the production was not named, no mention was made of loud music, and notice was sent too late for those like us to change vacation plans. Needless to say, we were very unhappy. Production was incredibly intrusive with very loud music playing most of the day nearly all week long, cast and crew taking over parts of the outdoor lounge area, etc. Like others have said, the pools and activities are wonderful for small children (though many activities are quite pricy). But it is more Disney, less authentic Hawaii, especially in early February.
This was my family's first time to Aulani and if you want
This was my family's first time to Aulani and if you want to skip the long winded review and cut to the chase, I'd for sure come back again. VALUE: it's hard to say if it was a great value or not because that can be subjective from person to person and depends on your budget. For the reviews saying it's overpriced, well, that's expected - it's Disney and it's Hawaii which is the one-two punch combination of things that are just expensive. Would I pay again for the experience, absolutely. FOOD: I've been to other resorts (non kid oriented ones) and the food was better and had a greater variety. With that said, contextually, being that Aulanis target market is kids and families, the food was good. I found myself a few times saying "this is better than I expected", for whatever's that worth. We probably ate at Ulu Cafe the most for breakfast and Off the Hook for dinner as our son loved the mac and cheese, as evidenced by him requesting it 4 nights in a row. POOL: Hands down, this is where Aulani shines. The amount of and variety of pools and the lazy river was second to none. I'd say it got busy as you might expect with the usual chair squatters setting up shop early in the morning, but we always had a bag and just dropped it off somewhere, as we don't do much lounging around with a 4 year old. The lazy river was the highlight for our son. ROOMS: we had a partial ocean view on the 12th floor (room 1228) in an end unit and the views were spectacular. Because of being on an end unit we had sweeping views of the ocean and looking north we could see a mountain range. We also had a nice view of the 4 seasons. I'd say the room was very clean and we did have daily service. The bathroom was a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The lanai had 2 chairs and a small table where I enjoyed coffee each morning and ended the night watching the sunset. AUNTYs BEACH HOUSE: our son spent 1 session at auntys beach house - the on property kids club where you can drop the little ones off at for a much needed 1.5 hour break. I would recommend that due to the limitation in how many kids they can accommodate, that you register exactly 90 days before your trip, which is when the spots become available. We did that and had no problem getting a spot. No idea what activities they do in there, as they don't let parents tour the facilities, but whatever they did - our son had a huge smile on his face when we picked him up, so much so that he wanted to stay longer! He clearly had a great time for the time he was there. OVERALL: for the target audience and the family vacation atmosphere we were seeking, Aulani checked all the boxes for us. Would we stay here if we didn't have a kid...actually, I'd say yes to that as well, but no questions this is the place for a kid friendly resort.
I stayed here for a girls night.
The buffet is amazing. They have an adult pool for lounging kid free. With amazing snacks and drinks. They also have an amazing spa. It's the best one I have been to by Disney. If you book late, you can use the facility before and after!
We reserved one bedroom villa the description was amazing
We reserved one bedroom villa the description was amazing we got there and it was total nightmare no privacy at all one bathroom that opens to the king size bedroom u can close a door between the bath and the toilet but still anyone using the bathroom the whole villa!! Would hear their business if washing hands or flushing the toilet. I would not waste my money on Aulani if u care for comfort and nice room. One of the worst experiences ever as it's supposed to be a nice family vacation.
I didn't get the chance to stay at this hotel, but I
I didn't get the chance to stay at this hotel, but I learned that you could book a character breakfast and it was amazing. It was about a 45 minute Uber from Waikiki so it's is a little more secluded. The French toast was amazing! My son had so many character meet and greets-- it truly made a difference.
This was my second visit to Aulani within 8 months my sis
This was my second visit to Aulani within 8 months my sis is a DVC member. It's out of the way, a bit of a way from Waikiki. Transportation: they offer a shuttle or taxi at a special price I took an Uber both visits and it's always under 44$ another shuttle serviced quoted me 100$ one way so I advise using their transportation or Uber Rooms: first visit I stayed with the standard view and I loved that room. Call myself being extra and got the "ocean view" this go round really wasn't an ocean view it was blocked by pillars and trees but I had a great view of the pool. I could not see the ocean at all room 604.The bed was comfortable. The sofa was adjacent to the balcony so you couldn't watch tv which is a different set up than the standard view. There's also a lot of foot traffic on this side located on the right. Check in : check in is hit or miss if you check in online. The app works when it wants to open the door so it's best you get a key. I was inconvenienced having to go back down for an actual key after being told it would work. The lady was really nice and apologized for that inconvenience . They have a line for DVC members and non members. I checked in at 1pm arrived pretty early was charged the fees per night (64$ local tax) room wasn't ready until 4:15pm and there was several people waiting for rooms. I guess it was a busy day I went from M-F. Beach: easy access to their beach I loved sitting on the beach and also by the lazy pool plenty of seating for you with umbrellas Food: I strongly suggest you buy groceries and cook for yourself if you have a villa. If not eat at the local places around the area. Food is overpriced and not good. I have never been so tired of French fries in my life. Off the hook offers good food however, if you want pizza or wings you have to sit on the beach to order it or the little cafe. They won't offer it sitting at the actual restaurant and that is one of the only meals that was pleasant. Besides off the hook's breakfast. They don't clean the rooms for you, it's like you're at home you fend for yourself lol Customer service is also hot or miss some people are so nice and then you have those that walk past and won't even acknowledge you speaking. I gave them 4 stars because it wasnt as clean as I would like. I bring Lysol spray and Clorox wipes. I went to wipe down the bathroom and it had an overwhelming smell of urine. Smelled like a porter potty. I sprayed so much Lysol on that toilet and it helped. But I was a shocked about that. Disney can do better with cleaning up
Disney in Paradise!
Aloha! Disney magic Hawaiian style! Three words. It was fantastic! My husband and I took a 28th anniversary trip to the islands. Our very last night, we decided to splurge and do one night at Aulani to see what it was like. So worth it! We checked in early about 12:00 and our room was ready so that was awesome! Our room was immaculately clean and thoughtfully decorated Disney style. We had a partial ocean view and a beautiful, private lanai. Beds are SO comfy. This is true of the Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian Hotels in Anaheim too. Best night of sleep we had our whole trip. AC worked great. Bathroom is large and had a separate toilet area. Tub is huge! Plugs are plentiful and USB chargers. Big TV with casting available from any device. WiFi is included. We were going to rent a car but decided not too last minute. We did however ask about EV charges as weโre going to be renting an electric car. They had several plug ins free of charge. The beach was beautiful and so calm for kids and families alike. Plenty of chairs available. The pool areas look so fun and they were bustling with kids and families. We found a quiet pool off on the side which wasnโt busy at all and very shady. Lifeguards are at each pool and are very attentive. There are water refill stations so bring water bottles. Prices are typical for a resort and Disney. A kids meal is about $3 more than CA in the states. A pizza at Uluโs is $20 but could easily feed 4 kids or 2-3 adults. We also were able to do a late check out the following day - which is just 1:00 hour later- and then we stored our luggage, and went to the spa. The spa was AMAZING! if you love spas and being pampered, Disney does a great job! Youโll love it! You also have an 60 min prior to your appointment to enjoy the spa amenities too. Everyone was so kind and professional. After our time at the spa, we took advantage of the Lounge which is a room you can reserve a time to shower and get ready for those taking a late flight like us. The lounge had just 2 showers, 2 bathrooms, and 2 sinks in the mens and womens locker rooms. There are also couches and tables to hang out while you wait for family to finish. There were probably about 10 people in the womens locker room when I was there so a bit crowded. I had to wait for a turn with the showers. The teens took a while! Plan on taking a quick shower, and then changing in the bathroom stall and getting out of there. It was crazy! But grateful they had the option. We ate a Royโs and Monkeypod nearby for dinners. The staff is happy to take you in the golf cart too! Overall, we loved it! One of the best resorts weโve ever been too! Crowded but Disney does crowds the best! If you want a quiet resort, this may not be it. The Four Seasons next door shares and beach with Aulani and it looked very chill. Kids and families are plentiful at Disney.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldnโt be happier! ๐
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venueโs rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a responseโฆ how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been โmatchedโ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
