Unlike Indian - very likeable
Fusion North Indian food with Middle East experience Cool place - exciting cocktails - loved the HOLI 3 coloured one - equally impressive wine list! Top notch food - subtle not over spiced Unique menu - each with a delectable twist - Prawn Kasundi was way beyond what I expected (from a Bengali) Predictably wonderful Kulfi Helpful staff - went the extra mile even when there was a Q outside Clean restaurant - not a smelly Indian place dishing out Vindaloo Good job I visited Brockley & not Soho What a find

One of my all time favourite restaurants. Went straight to the top of a long list of Indian restaurants I have eaten over the last 50 years. The lamb Biryani is served in a beautiful ceramic pot and when you lift the lid the sented aroma engulfs you. Heaven! Staff were very proud of their food and very attentive

We had the most amazing Holi dinner at Babur! Bollywood dancing and a Menü designed together with Masterchef finalist Anurag Aggarwal! Well done to a fantastic team at Babur! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice food, lovely hospitality. Would recommend, the black chicken dish was really delicious as was the chilli naan. Will go back
Be the first to ReplyDelicious! Naan was top notch!
A really gorgeous restaurant. Staff is very attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. Chilli cheese naan is not to be missed! I also had the butter chicken which was yum!

As always, the food was sooooo delicious and the service impeccable!! Can thoroughly recommend the tasting menu. A really good choice of items on their main menu, can also recommend the Sunday buffet!! There is a reason why Babur wins awards, come check it out yourself.

Love this place. So close to us in Honor Oak park, hidden gem. Came here twice during our one week trip. Delicious flavors in elevated Indian cuisine! Great cocktails as well!

Food was excellent! The mutton was so very tender and the dal was the best I’ve ever had! Came here twice in one week Excellent service
Be the first to ReplyA lovely meal out, will definitely be back
The food was delicious, I had the vegetarian platter which had lots of yummy dishes and it was nice to try a few different things. I particularly like the Dhal and the paneer dish. The cocktails were nice and very unique. The service was excellent, couldn’t ask for more.

Absolutely delicious food and tremendous service meant we had a great night here. The swordfish tikka and chicken tikka starters were great, and the shoulder of lamb main was incredible, full of flavour and melts in the mouth. The biryani was great too. Really good service from the team who made sure we were not kept waiting but equally never felt rushed. The restaurant has a nice relaxing atmosphere and is also impeccably clean throughout. Authentic Indian cuisine and a great evening out.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious food!!
We booked a table for 10 mostly India decent group for a business evening event. Everyone was so happy with the quality of food, authentic Indian taste with a modern twist, every dish was absolutely delicious! The service was great, staff very friendly too. I will definitely be returning here again soon. I couldn’t rate it highly enough.
Be the first to ReplyChristmas Eve delight
We were here en famille for Christmas Eve dinner. We were seated in the tent which was surprisingly warm and not noisy with the noise of the surrounding table absorbed by the tent and not bouncing off the walls. What a delight on a busy evening to be able to chat together without shouting and struggling to hear. The wine (a bottle of Rioja and a glass of Viognier) were excellent. The food was just delicious from the home made chutneys through the lamb chops, the delicious goat, rabbit, and wonderful fried potatoes. Service was excellent. My husband thought it the best Indian meal he had ever had. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service!
Beautiful food and great service. I had the monkfish tail curry. It was delicious with coconutty spicy sauce, mushroom rice, and so much delicate flavour. My partner had a chicken chetinad that was presented really uniquely! Our starters were good too. Scallops and crab balls. The crab could’ve been crispier but I’m really nitpicking there. So happy to have found this gem.
Be the first to ReplyAs usual a cut above the rest in the area. Come early to avoid being rushed as kitchens close at 10. Excellent service.
17/11/22 - Late Thursday evening dinner We three local middle aged guys were meeting up for a small school reunion for three of us plus my housemates. Our friend from Bristol offered to treat us all for which we were all thankful. One of us booked the two days before for a 8.30pm meal. Our Bristol friends were late due to train delays and we gathered beforehand at our friend's for a drink first so we arrived quite late at 9:08 to find a busy restaurant and a reserved table near the door for us. We settled down leaving our coats on the end of our bench despite being offered to put them away in the cabinet nearby. A selection of papadams and chutneys were quickly delivered to the table (without requesting). We tucked into them and they were delicious (they are home made and unlike any other shop bought or restaurant/takeaway chutneys I've ever had. We made sure they were all finished before our starters arrived. We were given the menus, including a cocktail menu, from which our 'hosts' ordered a Buffalo Smoke (£9.75) and a Saffron Bubbles (£8.95). We three ordered a large bottle of Cobra (£5.60) each and a wine for our other friend. The drinks arrived and the cocktails were impressive. We were quite merry and conversation delayed the food ordering. The restaurant was still busy but no people were arriving after us. The waiters reminded us that the kitchens were closing at 10pm. We managed to order a small variety of starters to share and a main each with sides to share. The starters came and they were well presented (one on a slate), piping hot and delicious albeit on the small side so sharing was tricky. They went down well though. The mains again tended to be small but were very tasty in general. Two of us three broke our veggie/pescatarian roles as we were eating out and we had not been impressed by the veggie options on a previous visit. I ordered the fish curry which was quite generous. The sides were shared and proved to be flavoursome too but not very spicy, more subtle. My partner (who is quite discerning but likes curries hot) thought the portions were artfully plated but mean, not particularly tasty or hot spicy and nothing wow for the prices we were paying. If you want heat there are plenty of other places to get that! It is a fancy place for the area and two of us were there on their actual opening night back in 1985 when it priced to be a cut above the rest even then. The main dishes were our busy table by 10:22 and we were enjoying the meal and company. The restaurant was emptying out though. We were attended to by the hovering waiters and the food and drink went down well, nothing left behind (as I tend to finish off what others cannot eat). We managed the lot with only one beer each which is no mean feat! Still and sparkling water (oddly both £3.25 a bottle) were left over and at that price I finished them off! By 22:50 the restaurant was nearly empty apart from us and a large drinking group of men at the far end. The waiting staff were hovering more but not pressuring us. Obviously we had to leave but only with empty plates!! We ordered the bill which came to £300 for the five of us which is way more than my partner and I would ever spend. We had kept to the cheap (usual price in a pub) beers so avoided the cocktails and (suggested paring) wines, which our friends really enjoyed but they are used to these sorts of restaurants. As our (visiting with his gf and staying in our house two nights) Bristol friend was paying we were very grateful (and kept his bill down by being frugal!) and thanked him. It was obvious at the end we were the last people left so our generous visiting friend paid the bill and added a substantial (undisclosed to us) tip for the staff waiting patiently! I hope it was shared or properly to the whole team! We left into the night, merry and sated, just after 11pm into my Fiat Multipla to drive us all home (after just the one bottle of beer diluted by an awful lot of food (having finished others').

We used to be regulars at The Babur Brasserie before moving abroad several years ago. We visited the UK and as a treat some friends took us to The Babur. It was a fantastic meal. The service was attentive without being obtrusive, the food catered for all tastes! Beautifully cooked and exquisitely presented. This restaurant deserves all its many accolades and is probably the only thing I miss about moving away from London.
Be the first to ReplyFine Indian Dinning in Brockley
I have been here before and enjoyed the food but felt they were trying too hard with the presentation. This time everything came together. Maybe the Marquee setting made for a less stuffy experience. After a couple of starters off the seasonal menu we had Kasundi King Prawns and Shoulder of Lamb followed by Mango Brulee and Black Cardamon Kheer. A couple of cocktails and 5 glasses of wine between us brought the bill to a little under £150 + service. Can't wait to go again.
Be the first to ReplyLunch special
I chose from the reasonably priced lunch menu. A starter of beetroot cutlet with sweet potato and mango chutney was original and delicious. The main, a curry of monkfish tail, was generous and well spiced. A side dish of dahl offered a comforting counterpart to the fish. Service was pleasant and efficient. Babur remains a destination restaurant which offers high-end cooking at an accessible price.
Be the first to ReplyNice enough
Restaurant located in Brockley Rise with street parking on surrounding streets. Main restaurant has front and rear dining spaces ..choose the front if you can ..the rear section acoustics are awful ..a very loud adjacent diner combined with the tiled walls and floors made it virtually impossible to hear one another across the table. Service was very friendly and efficient. Interesting menu with lots of variation on traditional dishes including a 37th year opening anniversary menu (extra dishes and a tasting menu). Poppadum dips were really nice including a roast garlic dip and a gingery green dip. Starters all ok. Rogan Josh Lamb shank was enormous and delicious. There is also a huge cocktail menu. Not a cheap Indian restaurant for the location but overall worth a visit
Be the first to ReplyThe 'cheaper' dishes are better! Amazing Coastal Mutton dish.
Exploring restaurants is a funny thing; so many different tastes and opinions - you never know what you're going to get. I have to note; the drink for £4.50 was astonishing; I ordered the 'Indian Summer' - Orange juice, pineapple juice , mango juice, pink rose syrup. I have to give them a lot of credit since 1st impressions in food are still very important - and this could not have been better. The price, amazing (please don't increase this!!) The first flavor was a wonderful hit of Sweetness; a massive surge of sweet simple syrup that then was immediately followed by the wonderful fruits; mango and something that tasted like grenadine. Luscious, silky in the mouth and super-smooth. Possibly the best drink I've ever had; really lived up to it's reputation as that famous far-eastern exotic Fruit drink and I'm so happy for Babur for this. Drink: 10/10. So, for the food; I ordered the 5 course tasting menu for £49 - The Saffron Chicken tikka piece was tender, sweet and juicy - on par with the best Michelin 'stone bass tikka' servings I've tried. I loved the delicate kiss of saffron and the tandoor flavor was very mild and allowed you savor the full taste of the chicken that tasted of a premium roast cut. Very well done: 10/10. 100 hours marinated steamed shoulder of lamb, Punjabi masala, beetroot rice - This was sadly a *massive* disappointment. The lamb shoulder was shredded into fine chunks and, while tender - lacked any of that lovely 'fatty gelatinous' taste and texture I look for in any lamb dish. It seemed far to lean and 'over cooked'. The taste was more akin to a very cheap cut, less 'sweet/buttery' and just bland really. The presentation was very nice but then the dish was on the small side (I don't like 'small plate' dishes) and the beetroot rice while again looking cute and 'mysterious' was a big let down as it was bland and 'wheaty'. Not the sweeter, 'pop' you get from a good White pearl basmati. 2/10 for this dish. Awful, sorry. I was with my brother who actually ordered their 'Coast Muton Masla' dish. I was not in the best of moods after my main was that disappointing but he was kind enough to give me a generous portion anyway - and wow - this was the dish I should have ordered! The mutton was buttery, sweet yet meaty and delicious; like the best and full flavors of a premium goat or lamb. Generous sized chunks and went delicious with either the naan or the plain rice. The sauce was a little hot but mild enough to still taste the richness and juicy pieces of lamb/mutton. For being on their 'set-lunch' menu too; I have to award this full marks! 10/10. I just needed to order this alone! Definitely next time. I noticed their Set-lunch menu was £24 for 2 courses including charges - while not Great it is a great 'Up front' option for a cost-saving meal - and most importantly, includes the amazing Coastal Mutton Malasa dish. A 3rd course (dessert) would push it to £32 which is more than Grand Trunk Road's Lunch offer of £30 all in. Chatora is still the winner, offering an astonishing 4 course Set-lunch for £33 all in! So in the end; what I could have done is ordered their Lunch Set-menu *twice* over for a total of £50! And got 2 Mains of their delicious Coastal Mutton Masala. Oh well, ha. I enjoyed my overall experience at Babur; it was very interesting to learn for me; the humble, less expensive dishes like the Coastal Mutton Masala is where they excelled. I recommend this; and you should be smiling! I'm going to award Babur overall a 9/10 but since the rating is out of 5 on this website; I'll be very generous this time (as long as they keep their Set-menu prices nice!) - and award them full marks based on the astounding Fruit drink and Coastal Mutton dish you can base a great meal off. Summary: The Drink and it's price of £4.50 were amazing and the Coastal Mutton dish really stood out; proof that you don't need the flashy ''10000 hours beetroot red flagship rice'' to stand out. Just a humble, delicious and well buttered and rich Mutton dish as the best local chef would prepare, and serve with a bit of refinement and keep the price low at £16 - and that's it! Would definitely highly recommend to anyone interested in Good food! 9/10.

Excellent, authentic food. We had a delicious Sunday lunch at Babur that featured two types of fish, two types of chicken, a lamb and a bean curry. Plus, assorted salads, and sides. Great (non) alcoholic cocktails and desserts too

While normally good, our visit tonight was very poor. 90 minute wait for mains (only ordered two mains too!). The duck dish (off their new menu) is awful. An overpoweringly sweet mango purée (sold as mango and chilli, but never seen a chilli). Rice that really does taste out a packet (minus flavour). And flavourless and poorly seared duck. They did take the worst dish off the bill, but that doesn’t stop it being a very expensive and very disappointing evening. We will give another chance, as it is normally better, but a surprising blip that left a sour taste.
Be the first to ReplyRevisiting an old friend
We used to live around the corner from the Babur and ate there regularly, but then moved a bit further away and it rather dropped off our radar. But last night we met up with friends who had also not eaten there for a long time and revisited our old friends at Babur to find that things were still as wonderful as ever. The winter cocktails were incredible, and the meal itself just gorgeous if very filling - as always! Babur excels in introducing its patrons to unusual and authentic dishes, the staff are friendly and incredibly efficient, it's just an amazing place to have in south east London. I'm going to have to make the journey again soon and much more often! Thank you everyone for a wonderful and delicious evening!
Be the first to ReplyReally disappointing
Had high hopes given other very positive reviews. Poppadoms out of a packet and thrown on a plate, although the condiments were interesting, with the garlic one being very good. Lamb chop starter was odd. The meat had been tenderised on the bone, which gave it a very odd consistency. The swordfish was quite frankly boring. My lamb curry was too salty to eat, although the meat had been cooked well. The venison curry was nice, but not worth the price. Mango and coconut lassies were good. We won’t be returning.
