We had gone to Balaton on Shaker Square which I never been really impressed with. So when friends wanted to go to its new location in Chesterland, I was not really looking forward to it. Aside from a mess up with reservations (we were seated 35 minutes after our reservation), everything was uphill. The food was delicious. Never been a fan of paprikash - but the crepes made be a believer. My husband got the sausage which was also delicious. Our table shared the cabbage rolls which were amazing as well as the red cabbage and the cabbage noodles. Only the cabbage noodles were less than great (too dry and crispy). Will definitely go again!

So happy that I finally made it to Balaton, a staple in the Shaker Square area. The environment is very welcoming. I ordered the chicken paprikash. The gravy was so flavorful, and the chicken was tender. All the portion sizes are generous, so come with an appetite! Reservations are suggested.Pro tip: order a container of the gravy to go!

All loved it. Chicken paprikas is excellent. Langos is amazing! Those new to Hungarian food should start with the Hungarian Platter and langos. You need reservations at least 48 hours in advance, all food is cooked to order. No walk-ins.

Wow, this place was fantastic! I was really excited to try Balaton on the recommendation of one of my classmates, who swears by this place (seriously, he comes every weekend). Walking in, I was immediately impressed by the decor - it felt personalized, thoughtful, and extremely cozy. The staff was very gracious, chatting with my party about their experiences running the restaurant while they cleared a table for us. While waiting for our food, they provided us with ample bread and salad and were still more than willing to chat.I ordered a Hungarian Platter and thought it was incredible. The chicken schnitzel was fried to perfection - the breading was light and crispy and the chicken inside was flavored wonderfully. The veal paprikash, stuffed cabbage, and dumplings on the side were a great complement as well. The portion size was more than more than enough. My friend ordered the full veal paprikash and was similarly impressed. The meat was very tender and juicy, and the soup underneath gave it a great consistency overall. The dumplings were a great pairing: they were still seasoned and could definitely stand on their own, but it wasn't to the point where the dish's flavor was overpowering. This restaurant was definitely on the more expensive side, but definitely worth it. I will definitely be back. One final note: this place understandably can get pretty busy, so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Especially in light of COVID, it doesn't hurt to plan in advance if you can.

To me this authentic Hungarian cuisine is comfort food because I grew up on it in a family of Austro-Hungarian immigrants. This family-owned and operated restaurant is obviously determined to stay open and keep their prices down during this tough economic time. The mom is in the kitchen preparing these delicious dishes and her daughter does double duty as the hostess and the only server with only a bus-boy to help clear tables. They are being careful to stagger the reservations so that they are not overwhelmed and there are no long waits (I got a phone call 3 hours ahead asking if I could adjust my reservation by 15 minutes--that's precise time management!). With this as background, we had a quiet, relaxing meal in a cozy environment. ย The menu is broad and varied, the food was excellent, and everything other reviewers say about authenticity is spot on. We will come back often.

We really are fond of the people and food from Balaton! Ordered the Hungarian wood plank dinner which, as usual, was generous and delicious while at the same time being extremely reasonably priced. ย The takeout service comes with an affectionate smile and conversation - well worth the visit either in person or takeout. The sausage was very good, the schnitzel was perfectly prepared, the salads were lovingly dressed, and the bonus desserts were a dream.

My rating is based on past experience, but please note that the operating hours listed are incorrect. We went to Balaton for lunch today (a Wednesday). They were not open at 11:30 as indicated on Yelp. A sign on the door said that they open at 3:00 PM Wednesday-Friday.

You must eat here!!! Everything is made to order from scratch! It is owned and operated by a very nice Hungarian family. Many of the patrons were regulars and everybody seemed so happy and friendly. Say hi to Vivian if you stop by! 5 stars! They like you to have reservations but they did allow us to walk in off the street. 5 stars!!! Take another couple when you go because they will love it too!
