Every restaurant owner knows profit comes from the drinks people consume with their food. – not with the food itself. When this is recognized the business benefits with profit, waiters / waitresses benefit with more tip money and the consumer benefits because they got exactly what they want. 5 stars: Drinks order is taken straight away – and if you are not ready the waiter / waitress waits for you as they know how important it is for both business profitability and staff tips to have a drink in your hand. The drink is delivered swiftly, and you get to enjoy browsing the menu at your leisure with a drink in hand. You have a side water / sparkling water to accompany that drink. When you have enjoyed browsing the menu at your own speed and taking in the fantastic food choice – whilst slowly sipping at your drink – you will find you are ready for another one by the time the waiter / waitress is ready to take your order. You gladly order your food and are offered another drink along with your order. (Perfect experience and maximum profitability for the business and tip money for the staff). 4 stars: Drinks orders are taken a little while after being seated. You’ve enjoyed browsing the menu at your leisure – yet your drink only arrives halfway through that browsing process. You have enjoyed browsing the menu at your own speed and taking in the fantastic food choice – whilst sipping at your drink – and the waiter / waitress is ready to take your order. You gladly order your food. Whilst waiting for your starter to come you finish your drink and it is noticed by the waiter / waitress who offers you another drink which comes before the starter arrives. (Excellent experience – yet business profitability and staff tips has not been maximized – room for improvement). 3 stars: You get to enjoy browsing the menu at your leisure – however the experience would be much better if you were slowly sipping at a drink – oh they’ve remembered the water but forgot to ask for drinks order yet. The waiter / waitress is ready to take your order – they would like your food order and drinks order at the same time. You gladly order your food and drink. Your drink arrives before the starter does. (Very medium experience – business profitability and staff tips are certainly not on the ‘importance list’ with this style of management – questionable experience). 2 stars: The drinks arrive with the starter. 1 star: The drinks arrive after the starter arrives. If ever somebody’s glass is sat empty in a restaurant – and that consumer is desperate to throw their hard-earned cash on another drink in that restaurant – adding to the businesses profit – adding to the waiters / waitress’s tip money - yet their glass sits empty – there is a lot to answer for with management. This one key performance indicator alone will bring a restaurant business down to its knees. The rating system here is easy and reflects the performance and quality of the businesses restaurant management. It’s not the waiters / waitress’s fault – they are only usually trying their very best in the management system they are under. They too are let down by poor management because their tip money is influenced heavily by this. This is not only a service rating – as what you see on the surface reflects a lot deeper into the restaurants management and the overall company values for that business.
