Just a night out
Outstanding! The greeting was pleasant, the food was excellent, and the service could not have been better. Kendall needs a raise. She was outstanding.

Be the first to ReplyBEWARE PARTIES OVER 5
Bandera, we learned too late, has a policy against seating a table of 6. We came for a birthday celebration and left disappointed for dinner elsewhere. Bandera declined to seat our party of 6 together, even though our family would fit easily and happily in one of their spacious booths. How is a decision like that compatible with any commitment to hospitality?
Be the first to ReplyNo Christmas spirit at Bandera
Made reservations for five family members for a Christmas dinner. At the last second we had six. Told by management that it was corporate policy that they couldn’t seat six in a booth and they suggested one or two sit at the bar. That was unacceptable since this was a family dinner for four adults and two small children. My question to management was you can sit three on one side of the booth but only two (both sides of the booth were equal in size), on the other side. This made no sense to me. Again suggested we sit one or two people at the bar. We were disgusted with management’s policy and decision. We decided to get food to takeout. We ordered beef sandwiches with fries but were told we couldn’t take fries in a takeout, again corporate policy we were told. I asked if I was requesting a “doggie” bag for my unfinished dinner and part of that was fries could I have the fries, of course the answer was yes. The servers were all professional and polite. The manager did nothing to accommodate us. If indeed this is corporate policy, someone needs to replace the higher up’s making these ridiculous policies. I mean who ever heard of not being able to take fries out in your to-go order.
Be the first to ReplyCan’t go wrong with Bandera
This place is a classic for us. Great food! While not a large menu, the Chefs selections are well thought out. Well prepared. And timely in their delivery. We life to sit at the bar whenever we go to any of the restaurants in this chain. Hillstones, Houston's, or Bandera. The staff are well trained and thoughtful. You can't go wrong with Bandera.

Very unpleasant staff and they don’t like families or groups of more than 4. Lists of good places so find a different one. I’m certainly not going back
Be the first to ReplyConsistent Quality and Service
As always, the food was delicious and top quality. Bandera's rotisserie chicken was moist, flavorful, and worth the high tab. The servers and staff members were unfailingly friendly and efficient. When a salad was served incorrectly, a manager quickly came to our table to apologize, and she promised to make it right. We were impressed by her attentiveness and sincerity. When the check arrived, the salad had been removed from the bill. Although not necessary, this demonstrated the lengths that this restaurant will go to keep customers satisfied and loyal. Having an experience like this was so refreshing, especially when we have witnessed service deteriorating across the board since COVID. There is no question that the staff members at Bandera truly care about their customers. Bravo, Hillstone!
Be the first to ReplyBest Crispy Chicken Sandwich EVER
A friend and I were walking on the beach and stopped in on a whim. Fortunately, we were early and easily got a table. The food is pricey, but the quality was excellent. I had the crispy chicken sandwich that was paired with an ever-so-finely chopped kale slaw, fresh tomato, and Swiss cheese, piled neatly on a bun, and shoestring fries on the side. The sandwich came in three pieces, making it easy to eat. I had enough for dinner the next night. My companion had the French dip, and unlike a previous poster’s experience, I was told it was delicious. The staff were young, attentive, and professional, and we never felt rushed, though the restaurant was jam-packed by the time we left. Great experience all around.

Yummy wood-fire grilled food. Generous portions and great service. It was packed, so get reservations in advance. Loved the rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, guacamole, filet mignon, and the chocolate mouse. Everything was really yummy! We would go back sometime. Great local spot.
Be the first to ReplySubpar food but like most Hillstones, it's always packed
Having spent a lot of time at the original Bandera up in Brentwood, I thought I'd try this location while down in Laguna and Newport. It's located right off the PCH and even has a small self-parking lot. So far, so good! The room looked beautiful (and not too dated, even though it's been here awhile), with perfect low amber lighting. Somehow the whole restaurant feels a tad bit claustrophobic, though... due to a relatively low ceiling throughout. It was a weekday night and it was very, very busy, totally packed with well-off Orange County people (who really are different than LA people). Staff was uniformly nice, though I felt a little rushed (Hillstone tends to do this at most locations, especially at Bandera... the worst location for that being Bandera Brentwood). However, the biggest issue I had was that the food was subpar. The jalapeno queso and guacamole dip duo is just too dense and spicy and is a poor substitute for the spinach and artichoke dip they offer at other Hillstones. Plus at Hillstone, they never bring enough chips (though they will if you ask for more). Unfortunately, I had a genuinely awful french dip sandwich, too. Worst ever at this chain. Should be such an easy dish. Completely dried out meat... in tiny little pieces, not the typical juicy big slices. I would have sent it back but would have had to wait another hour to get it. Surprised the kitchen staff would even put it on a plate. So I had an okay experience with subpar food, and while the prices are reasonable, this place still isn't cheap. I doubt I'd come back, so that's why it gets 3 stars from me.
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as it was before
Salmon was served with cucumber salad only... potato purée was surprisingly missing. Still the same high price for less food. It is a great meal for people who are on a diet though. Had to order sides additionally. No “happy birthday” small complimentary desert for our birthday dinner.
Be the first to ReplyMy experience at Bandera
I love this place, reservation is again a must because the atmosphere is truly fantastic, the service and the food is excellent, the bartenders are exceptional great, they are focused in providing you quickly your favorite alcohol drink or food, the place tend to be loud but controlled, service staff are great and humble. The food is well prepared and fresh, try the signature corn bread with wood fired roasted chicken. You cant go wrong here.
Be the first to ReplyAfter years of wanting to try this
We finally found ourselves staying in CDM and we’re getting to know all the local shops and restaurants. We tried Banderas last night and couldn’t have had a better experience. Our waiter, Edwin, shares my father’s name, so of course that was an instant connection. Edwin had great input into our order: tri tip with enchilada and lamb sandwich. But those dishes had so many layers than their names imply. The lamb especially is very tender, sliced thinly and so flavorful too. Soft peppers and a hint of lemon on the sandwich added to the complexity. My husband had a martini and I had a nice glass of Turley Zinfandel and we were stuffed! Edwin was so personable and friendly and what a great story he has. The manager came over to check on us and offered us a slice of banana cream pie but we were so full we had to unfortunately decline. Be sure we’ll be back again for that! Thank you one and all— excellent staff, ambience and of course food.

Be the first to ReplyBirthday Disappointment
Brought our family for our twin granddaughters birthdays and were none too happy when the bill arrived and we were charged $24 for their birthday desserts. Insulting at best after spending over $300 for food and drink.
