I am beyond sad that Bar Moruno has closed.
But I was overjoyed to be there on closing night and celebrate with the regulars that had packed the place to bid their farewells. I have eaten there countless times and was shocked to read that they were closing. It seemed to be packed every time i went so I am at a loss as to why they chose to cease operations. I decided to sit at the bar so I could socialize with the bartenders, all of which have been there pretty much since day one. My favorite cocktail is their coconut gin martini, an unforgettable mix of coconut gin, white vermouth, matcha tincture and celery bitters. I cannot get enough of this drink and, thankfully, one of the bartenders taught me how to make it so I can continue enjoying it at home. SCORE!!! I also ordered their radicchio salad which pairs nicely with the cocktail. The salad is huge in comparison to many of their other dishes so I was more than happy to share with those around me. It was a joyous occasion that night and I treasures spending time with so many other regular customers. But the highlight of the night goes to the bartenders who joined in the celebration as we bid adieu to an excellent bar and restaurant. Adiós Bar Moruno!! You will be missed.Cocnut

Had no idea. Am so sad. The food and drinks were so good. Was such a welcome addition to Silver Lake. Feel like I didn't get a proper goodbye, another chance to dine here. Will forever miss the salmon martini- so unique, so delicious. Please come back!
Be the first to ReplyWe really enjoyed this place.
The small plates and drinks were awesome. Will def be returning again soon.

[I didn't want to mention it last week, but this entire ten or so days, we have been dealing with the emotional impact of cataclysmic events half way around the world. We needed to get out and get a change of scenery to take our minds off those sad things at this favored time of year. It has saved us from being discouraged about our "fellow" man.] Bar Moruno was just the place to to take a break, take our mind off more weighty matters, relax in a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere, and have small bites of great food. Yes, vegetarians can find excellent things to eat here. Our little group was looking for a late lunch and then heading down the street for ice cream (review coming up soon). We lucked out finding parking just steps from this place, sat down at a balmy spot on a lovely warmish-coolish day that is typical in LA at this time of year. Everything was sparkling and elevated. We were particularly entertained by, wait for it ... the house-crafted bubbling water that I tried to capture in a video but cannot find a way to upload here. It was like having a little table-top show and added to the sense of peace and calm we felt instantly at Bar Moruno. My pictures will show what we ordered, small plates (I am perpetually on calorie restriction so I don't balloon as the years pass by, right?), exquisitely made, unique dishes, fresh ingredients, consciously curated. Others were enjoying the bar aspect of Bar Moruno. But, we were just happy to savor our little snack and were surprised at how filling it turned out to be. Eva, our server, is a doll. She was smiling and friendly, as if we were regulars, and efficient. The guy who greeted us -- sorry to have overlooked his name -- was just as cordial and welcoming. Everyone there seems to go the distance for their clientele, which is so rare and wonderful. This place is likely hopping at night, so if you want to party with a group, put this high on your list.

Be the first to ReplyNot sure what the hype is all about here.
We had the things that the waiter suggested so I feel like we ordered the right stuff. The ambience is very nice and we enjoyed the Anchovies Matrimono. But everything else was mediocre here, and expensive.
Be the first to ReplyWe had such a great night.
The staff is super friendly, attentive and the food recommendations were spot on. Everything from drinks to food to ambience were exceptional. We're DEFINITELY coming back.

Fantastic neighborhood spot ! Incredible waitstaff and excellent tapas with many vegetarian options
Be the first to ReplyI didn't used to think I liked anchovies, but the Anchovy
I didn't used to think I liked anchovies, but the Anchovy Matrimonio is a crazy combination that I never would've guessed I'd like. It's the perfect balance of salty, sour, buttery, and crunchy from the combination of anchovies, pickled onions, butter, and toast. I crave this all the time. Also love their baked feta - it doesn't punch the tastebuds as much as the anchovies but it's hard to resist a bubbling skillet of cheese and oil. Service is great, and I love the ambiance too - it reminds me of summer nights in Europe.
Be the first to Replyi loved this place! nice service, the food was excellent.
a little in the pricy side but everything tastes very quality. a lot of these are north african/middle eastern inspired as well!! ambience was warm and inviting. will come back here eventua

Best gin martinis I've ever had - there are several different kinds and I have drank all of them on too many occasions! The food is okay hence the missing star, but seriously, whoever is creating your cocktails: KUDOS!
Be the first to ReplyFabulous! Loved everything we ordered.
My personal highlights were the gildas, anchovies matrimonio, setas con huevo, and lamb moruno, but EVERYTHING was seriously so good. We ended with churros and chocolate sauce which was a great finish!

I came here on a Saturday night around 8:15pm with no reservation and very little expectations. Luckily, we were able to get a table for two at the chefs table and that was the beginning of a fortuitous evening. Everything we had was really great, except for my skin contact wine (Not my fave but that's personal preference). We ate the radicchio salad, tortilla Hispaniola, the sea bream (most flavorful fish I've ever had) and the setas con huevos (must order) We also had the flan and churros for dessert. Everything was a standout. Would order the exact same meal again.

When it comes to Spanish tapas (outside of Spain), there just aren't a lot of "amazing" options. I've had life changing moments eating some of the best tapas in Barcelona so my bar is set pretty high. But after last night I think I can say Bar Moruno comes pretty close! Solid dishes from start to finish. I especially loved the Ati Manel Squids in Ink and Anchovy Matrimonio. Collectively as a group we were happy with everything. The atmosphere is loud and lively. Service is friendly. Overall great experience :)
Be the first to ReplyLove this place! The food is delicious and fresh.
The chicken skewers were tender and flavorful. The churros were bouncy and paired well with the chocolate dip! Can't wait to come back.

This place was originally in the Farmer's Marker and i'm happy to say it's every bit as good as the first location. Food is tasty. Most of the dishes are designed to be family style (which i love). Atmosphere is fun and light. Good wines, too. The only complaint i have is that i live near the Farmer's Market.
Be the first to ReplyThis is mostly a shout out to the bar tenders.
On a busy Friday night no less. Those guys are so knowledgeable, fun and patient. Our companion wanted to try the gins -- as in three or four. A little sip of that one, a little sip of another. One too bland, another too salty (the salmon),,,,,,, Finally she decided on A GLASS OF WHITE WINE.... But which one??? !!!! I don't know the name of the bartender but he deserves a medal of honor.Everything we ordered to eat was delicious. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend and I love this restaurant.
Spanish fare and a really hip and cool atmosphere. Big fan of the honey nut squash and the morunos! Easily in our top 10 favorite LA restaurants. Perfect for a date night
Be the first to ReplyTo be honest, I was a little disappointed when we came here
To be honest, I was a little disappointed when we came here for dinner. We were in the mood for tapas, and I felt that most of the dishes we ordered were a bit underwhelming. We felt the chorizo was overly dressed with olive oil (a bit unnecessary for a fatty cured meat). The pan con tomate was not as seasoned as other tapas places I've been to; the flavor of the tomato was not elevated. The beef morunos were good, but a little dry. The cocktails we had were delicious. Overall, service was great, drinks were tasty, but food was mediocre.
Be the first to ReplyBad service.
Idiotic management. Was a waste of time sitting in traffic to come down here. Won't let you order food with a person. makes you download an app and order from there. Can't wait for this place to eventually close.
Be the first to ReplyI want to add an amazing experience.
Just FYI they do not allow wine you to bring your wine but otherwise the food is amazing. The service is amazing. Ambience is pretty nice. Will definitely do that again.
Be the first to ReplyI really enjoyed this spot.
Loud and bubbling with life and energy. To start, I would stick with their gin based cocktails, wine, and beer. I went away from their wheelhouse with the Jamon Iberico old fashion and didn't love it. Sounds good right? Not for me. Anchovy Matrimonio: if you even just like and not love anchovy make sure to get this dish. One of my favorite and most memorable dishes I've had in a long time. Super salty, butter? Yes, butter, and oh the pickled onion make this a perfect pairing with a cocktail. Chorizo Scotch Egg: don't miss this dish! This was 1A or 1B compared to the anchovy. If you don't like anchovy this makes a perfect option. One note, pictures are deceptive, this is smaller than it looks. It's basically one egg spit in terms of size. At $18, it's not cheap, but worth it at least once. Bacalao: maybe just a miss when we had it. Was way over cooked, but still had nice flavor. Sophie was great and very helpful with all of our questions. Valet out front for $12, you likely will need it, as parking is tough in the area.

OMG this place was so freakin good! Highly recommend this place! I loved how the appetizers came in tin cans but everything on the menu was fantastic! Can't wait to go back
Be the first to ReplySuch a delightful experience.
We especially loved the anchovies and tortilla espagnola. Could've done without the roasted potatoes since we were getting potatoes in the tortilla espagnola, so would've been good for our server to steer us in a different direction! We were pretty satiated by the time the sea bream came around. The battered and fried greens were good in theory, but we kind of wanted something more neutral with it like a rice situation. Felt like we were just consuming way too many flavors and saltiness in one sitting. All individually good though. We're just ambitious orderers/eaters. Fantastic cocktails and wines. Staff is super chill and nice. The only negative thing is that it's quite loud in there. And you can tell they attempted to try to alleviate that with the sound proofing devices on the ceiling, but needs some work. Parking can be quite difficult since it's limited Sunset parking and hilly residential side streets, which I got lucky with. There IS valet available.
Be the first to ReplyPan con tomate was excellent.
The Tuna in Olive Oil left a little more to be desired. Drinks were amazing. The bread is fantastic.
