Been here twice.
Once for my birthday and the other when I friends in from out-of-town. Both times were amazing. One of my guests said it had been a while since he had laughed this much - which was exactly the kind of evening I wanted all of us to have. Also, the performers are so friendly and really pay attention to each person and whatever info you've provided them about yourselves while making the reservation. Food service is pretty slow and I found it hard to get anyone's attention. But that's not enough to dock any stars. The experience was too good for that.
Be the first to ReplyHoly cow.
It's hard to describe what the Batsu event was. Was like. Part comedy show, part improv, part game show, part saddism. I'd rather not go into too much detail on the show since the suspense is half the fun. I will leave you with the description from a friend's face who was called up - it was mixed with shock and disbelief but also glorious anticipation. Food was spectacular and drinks were exceptional. VIP area seems like they had a little sake party. Overall highly suggest and don't look at too many descriptions even though the show and actors do change up. Can't wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was yummy.
But the most memorable part was how funny this whole game showy place was! The cast was fucking hilarious and we couldn't stop laughing, everyone that attended were good sports. I was surprised when my partner went up on stage and told everyone about our anniversary! Felt super embarrassed but overall it was super fun! I definitely recommend this place if you wanna do something fun late night.
Be the first to ReplyHaven't laughed this hard in a long time.
Impractical jokers meets jackass. Improv at its best. I've seen a lot of comedy shows...Matt rife, sugar sammy, Paula poundstone...and this entertained me the most. We are visiting from Hawaii and we were trying to figure out something to do and we found this when searching for a comedy show. Will do this again when we come back next year.
Be the first to ReplyThis was hands down one of the best and most unique shows
This was hands down one of the best and most unique shows I've ever been to! Highly recommend if you're in NYC!! Batsu is a japanese style comedy game show, where comedians compete agaisnt each other with short form improv games. If they lose, they have to endure punishment. And ngl yall, some of the punishments were INTENSE. There is also voluntary audience participation. They take one person per table. Everyone in my party was super hesitant to do it so I got peer pressured to volunteer. It was honestly super fun and not that bad! I'm the type of person who doesn't like to be heckled at comedy cellar so if this is you, trust me, you will be fine at Batsu! The night was super fun! We were laughing the entire time. This show is super crazy, wacky, fun, and amazing. Pro tip: - Its a small venue so every table has a good view of the stage - They pass out free wasabi sushi challenge at the end, I recommend you don't eat it if you can't handle super spicy food (my friends threw up their sushi lmao) - Great place to celebrate birthdays

My sister got me and my husband reservations for BATSU for our Christmas present, so we had no idea what it was or what to expect. This was also our first time going to a comedy/improv show, so adding that to us not knowing what BATSU was, made for a great night. The best way to go into the show is the less you know the better, so I'll leave my review at that. We were seated with another couple, and it was also their first time. There's food and drinks available for order, service was fast, and you don't really notice service weaving in and out throughout the show.

came here a few days ago with my friend, i wasn't entirely sure what to expect but we had so much fun!! the performers keep you laughing the whole time and i loved the crowd engagement. the only time you'll be looking at your phone is to open up your camera so you can record! all the employees were really friendly and the food/service was good too. sushi was fresh and the drinks were fun! the menu even made me laugh a little lol, i will definitely be coming back with more people. thanks guys for a good time
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience! Nothing I've ever seen before.
I took my boyfriend here for a date and we had so much fun. The food is yummy, drinks were good, great service. 100% would recommend for a fun date night or a fun night out with friends. Definitely coming back again in the future! :)
Be the first to ReplyI've definitely never been to an experience like this
I've definitely never been to an experience like this before! I went here for a work outing. We walked into a room with flashing lights and music and the sushi was already sitting out waiting for us. They brought us in group by group so it wasn't too hectic. The service was really fast although I wish they automatically gave you plates because eating sushi without one gets annoying haha. It's also VERY VERY loud in there. The show was really interesting and fun! We were SCREAMING from the craziness and seeing our bosses being shocked and participate in punishments. Anyone who volunteered to be part of the show and did the punishment got a prize. At the end they brought out wasabi sushi as a voluntary punishment for everyone.
Be the first to ReplyBatsu in New York City is one fun time! Take it from me.
I've been twice, and both times were amazing. What is Batsu? Batsu is a Japanese games show that infuses audience participation with games and improv. It is fun, it is hilarious, and you will definitely have a good time! Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention that they have food--mostly sushi and other Japanese favorites. As for the food, everything is fresh and tastes really good. And while you can't go wrong with anything on their menu, I'd avoid the sushi boat if you are a big eater like me. Why? Well, for the price, it's just not enough to share with more than two people. If you are a light eater, that may not be the case but, my mantra is: bring all the food! Batsu also has drinks (of course), but the menu for drinks is kind of small. I'd stick with Japanese beer or sake. Oh, and if you get the VIP ticket, you get free sake, shots passed to you throughout the night (not "all you can drink," but several shots come your way over the course of the night). If you're thinking about hitting up, Batsu, you should do it. You will have tons of fun!!!
Be the first to ReplyThis place offers an unbelievable, one of a kind experience.
It was an incredibly funny, uniquely odd and crazy high energy night made up of improv, theater, contests and punishments. My daughter and I absolutely loved it - laughed so hard - and will never forget our wonderful experience with the Batsu folks. I will definitely be back with friends. This is a must if you want a totally NYC experience. Really loved it.

One of the best spots in the city! Hilarious people with great vibes. The entire staff is so friendly. Drinks and a comedy show are always the perfect recipe

BATSU!!!There are a lot of things to do in New York City, but I was extremely blown away with how great of an experience this was and will happily pay the ticket price again to go back and have already recommended it to several friends! My boyfriend and I went to the 10pm show on Friday. We had arguably the best seat in the house and had a good amount of soju, which added to the experience. We had some sushi and crispy tuna as well as a jelly shot out of a can and a delicious soju cocktail. The theater is small enough every audience member feels like they are really interacting with the professional actors. There was an MC and then four main actors who went through the challenges, occasionally pulling in audience members. The BATSUs (punishments) were hilarious to witness and the actors were all talented, fun, and great sports! There are some surprises mixed in and the energy is incredible. Thanks for a memorable night BATSU NYC! I can't wait to come back and have more sushi (off of a plate unless...)

I have no clue how I found out about this place, but it's a gem to say the least. Batsu in the EV is a Japanese comedy show....and I'd say it's a mix of 50% Who's Line is it Anyways....50% Impractical Jokers.....25% Jacka** and 25% Wild N Out. Batsu itself if the experience of the losing team/person doing something unpleasant as punishment. It's pretty inconspicuous when walking by, so be careful not to pass it. The food was all deliciousness, didn't get any pics as it was dark since we got served after the show started. It's communal seating as well, so you'll be close with others depending on the size of your group. Great diverse show and I'm so thankful I did not, repeat, DID NOT, volunteer to be a participant. Of course one of my friends entered into the mix, and ya'll, after the first audience participation stunt....I would have lost the contents of my stomach on stage....HARD PASS. I won't give away what they did...but here is some of their punishment: A guys' punishment (he worked there) was to put his hands onto a tray full of live mouse traps...and just have them cut off circulation to his fingers?!?!?! I mean...come on folks.... I'd totally go back as it seems they do different things each round. Highly recommend if you get to go.

My first comedy show ever! Standard tickets are $45 and we went on a weeknight. I would say the energy is great, first off, but there's not really a lot of japanese elements except the food and costumes they wear. Some of the improv games were also difficult to follow along (I was thoroughly confused half the time)Good experience, but I would not go again.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a must-visit if you are planning a trip to NYC.
From the unique atmosphere that begins at the door to the tasty food and great cast BATSU! is an overall once-in-a-lifetime experience that is great to go to with friends and family alike.
Be the first to ReplyA very funny and creative improv show.
Except for the batsu ("punishment") which was extreme, extremely cringey, completely unnecessary, and quite distracting. The traditional style as I understand it is more along the lines of bopping someone on the head or play slapping them or pouring slime over them, and it has a rich history. This was..not that. Drinking mop water, getting shot by a paintball gun, and shocked on a shock collar where the performers were visibly distressed for more than 10 minutes. I felt gross watching it and felt gross leaving it. Borderline exploitative. Do not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyIt's hard to put my experience into words.
..it's like having a fever dream and waking up next morning with spotty memories of the night (or that's the alcohol speaking).Purchased tickets to the New Year's Eve special edition of Batsu not knowing exactly what to expect but knowing for sure it will be a wacky night. And it definitely did not disappoint. At the front door we were welcomed enthusiastically by the staff and seated at a table with great views of the stage. Then the hijinks began! Four participants had to compete through several rounds of variety show-type games while avoiding cruel and unusual punishments doled out by characters such as a body sushi champion or a German dominatrix. You will laugh out loud a lot out of sheer ridiculousness and second-hand embarrassment. Our ticket came with unlimited sushi and sake delivered to the table so we could keep our undivided attention on the show. Only minor complaint is that there should have been more sushi deliveries! When New Year's Eve rolled closer everyone in the audience took turns hitting a gong and when the clock struck twelve the staff counted down with us and shot off some large party poppers.Incredibly glad we celebrated New Year's Eve with the amazing Batsu team and looking forward to attending another show!No pics here in order to not spoil the surprise.
Be the first to Replythis is an incredible, must do event in the city.
grab your friends and get a bunch of tickets. go eat some solid food and laugh your butt off the entire time. such a great, funny show. will be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is INSANE lol.
. interpret this as you will.To start, they have people go up for challenges and if you lose, you get a "punishment." Some of the punishments are pretty bad like eating sushi off one of the employee's hairy belly with soy sauce slathered all over him and drinking sushi out of his belly button. Personally, I don't know if I could've done it but it was entertaining to watch and overall was a really unique/fun experience. The food was very average/not the highlight there. Their standard rolls were fine, but I don't think the special rolls are worth. I did really like the fries though! They were very thin and crispy.I think this place is definitely worth checking out for a special event/if you wanna do something different.

Positives first - very friendly and efficient service, especially given the cramped space. I appreciate that you're not crammed in elbow-to-elbow and you can get in and out of your seat without getting intimate with the table next to you. Every seat in the house gets a good view, no need for VIP tickets. Food and drink are not outrageous for NYC venue prices. The performers are very enthusiastic; every gag, every bit, they are fully sending it. A TOTO/bidet toilet in the bathroom - very nice and much appreciated. With the good out of the way, there's some bad. Honestly the show just wasn't that funny. Maybe my expectations were too high. The menu is not anywhere on their website, but it is basic with limited options. Food is a few sushi rolls and appetizers like gyoza and edamame. They have a few sake options and like 1-2 beers (available by the pitcher too). They have a sushi boat that is advertised as "for 2-4 people!" When it came to our table I genuinely felt scammed by how small it was for over $100. Just order individual items; you'll get more food that way. In their defense I've been to comedy clubs that literally serve microwaved mozzarella sticks and Natty light - but BATSU! says in their FAQ "but we have an awesome food and drinks menu." It's certainly nicer than frozen pizza and theater nachos, but it is not run like a dinner service. it's really a snack and not a meal. Eat before you come.If you love improv, you will have a great time. If you don't, it's a pass.
Be the first to ReplyLots of fun and highly suggest going with a few friends.
The host is fantastic and all the performers are great.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience! Worth the money and wait time.
Had a lot of fun. Went with a date and they sat us with another group but there's a lot going on during the act there's no room for uncomfortableness.

When I first read about this place, I have to admit I was skeptical. The premise seemed a bit too "jackass" when I read it and I was doubtful I would enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I have a great sense of humour, I just thought it seemed a bit juvenile maybe. My brother had gotten the tickets through a friend and so we went, not really fully knowing what to expect. Well, let me tell you - what a fantastic experience this was! When we arrived at the address, we initially thought we were in the wrong place. The door is completely nondescript and when we opened the door, we look into the kitchen of a Japanese restaurant. We were told we were early and would have to wait about 15 minutes. Once we got in, I have to say, the service is not great - it's outstanding! Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and absolutely hilarious. It didn't feel contrived as some places can seem, in fact, everyone was absolutely genuine. I just can't say enough great things about the whole team, but especially Joe. What a character! The food was better than expected, and the sake ninja was a definite highlight! Although I do recommend upgrading to a bottle of sake - the house stuff is ok, but if you love sake, you'll know what I'm talking about. The show itself was incredibly entertaining and 1,000 times better than I expected it to be. If you're looking for something unique and fun to do in New York City, I highly recommend BATSU!! It's something you can see multiple times and never experience the same show twice. What an absolute gem this was and I'm so glad we went. Thanks to Joe and the entire cast for a memorable experience. BATSU!!
