Didn't know what expect as it was a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. We sat at the bar and were served the best Miso soup I ever had.Proceeded to order a sampling of sushi, it was all delicious and melted in your mouth. The staff and hostess were very attentive to our needs, overall an amazing experience, Will definitely go back when back in New York.
Be the first to ReplyFirst off, the ambience and servers are superb.
Our server Mimi was a delight! She was personable and had some great recommendations! We came to BBF super hungry and excited to try all different items on the menu. We ordered the sushi bomb platter ($29) which was simple and delicous! Very good quality fish and great toppings to tie it all together. We ended up also ordering the Chefs choice sushi bomb platter ($40) after we ate a few other dishes cause we had a little room left in our stomachs. Chefs choice included 12 different pieces of their sushi bombs. I can see where people may feel it can be pricey but if you look at it in comparison to omakase, its $69 for 24 pieces of sushi which is pretty good for NYC!!! My wife and also had the miso glazed black cod ($36) which was hands down our favorite!!! Very well prepared and cooked perfectly! Buttery and flakey and so light! Just be careful as the fish may come with small bones. There weren't a lot so it wasn't an issue. The unagi omurice ($28) is very filling and we also had the shishito pepper/brussel sprouts app ($11) that was pretty good as well. For dessert we topped it off with the matcha parfait ($11) which was perfect for matcha lovers. All in all we ordered a lot to try everything and my wife and I loved it. If you're looking for quantity over quality, go somewhere else. Everything was delicious and price point is what you would expect for a restaurant in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyLong story short, I liked my food, service was awful.
The vibe is awesome and modern with an extensive sushi menu. In our case, the hostess was acting as a waitress and hostess and didn't take our order until 25 minutes after we sat down. It was a really disappointing first impression and we were about to get up and leave when she came over. This place has amazing potential but just didn't do well last night. The food was gr, aside from frozen edamame.

We came because of chef Chikara Sono, former chef of Kyo Ya, we enjoyed eating there every time we went. But this BBF has no compare to Kyo Ya, maybe a trendy place for kids to hang out. Sushi bomb is a joke, they can't even cook the sushi rice right, taste like those cheap takeout sushi. 7 dollar a piece fried chicken is just a piece fried protein, you can make better fried chicken yourself. Curry rice is too salty.Tako ball is weird, not the way you would expected. They may try to be creative but turned out just pieces of deep fried flour balls, nothing special. I rather they have it the traditional way.The waitress kept telling us everything was so good so tasty but it was not.Big disappointment.Don't go if you want good Japanese food.
Be the first to ReplyFood and ambience were really great.
The servers really were so kind and helpful. That said the service definitely needs a little help as our food took a long time to come out and we were waiting around for a while. Would definitely still come back though as I imagine they will workout those kinks and get more efficient!

The food was exceptional, the fish on the nigiri was buttery and delicious, the cocktails were just out of this world and the service so heart warming and fast. The ambiance was also fun and cozy. We'll be back for sure.
Be the first to ReplyLooks good, tastes good, but quite pricey.
Portions are very small so come prepared. It was a cute ambiance but I don't think I'll come again. The food was okay but I didn't think it was worth the price point.

The service is phenomenal, the staff was very attentive and kind. There is bar seating where you can watch the chefs prepare everything right in front of you. I tried the ribs which I was pleasantly surprised with, it was probably my favorite thing that we ordered! Also got the sushi bomb which was great but I think the ribs is a must order. I also ordered the bacon miso Mac and cheese which was delicious as well. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of their menu!
Be the first to ReplyExpensive menu with poorly seasoned, constructed food.
Portion size was tiny and not worth the price at all. We had a group of 5 ordering a variety of dishes and they all came out extremely underwhelming and confusing. Not worth the money or the time.
