Awful
Nice space, but the food was awful. Salad was limp lettuce leaves, on heavy hummus with tasteless beets. And main course — Colorado trout filets — was three filets on a plate, 1 skin side up which, when turned over, was half raw. At the center of the plate: a pile of vegetables that looked like they had been scooped out of an animal feeder and thrown on the plate. No intention, no presentation, no taste. The side dish of Patates Dauphinois had sauce that was separating. When the wait staff saw that we had eaten none of the food on the plate they just whisked it all away and avoided us, rather than ask, as at any decent restaurant (esp in this $$ price range) — was this not to your liking? Can we bring you something else? Sorry to not have taken a photo of the plate of slop.

Do not go to this restaurant! We made a reservation 2 months in advance of our trip. When we arrived for our meal we were seated in a semi heated tent on the porch. We literally froze! We had to eat our meal with our jackets on, our feet freezing while we watched the elite patrons dine inside in warmth. It was a total insult!
Be the first to ReplyLost its cache, expensive, even for Aspen
We had dinner at Betula in the fall, just as the leaves were changing and the town was buzzing. Every other restaurant was lively that weekend except Betula which was mostly empty and everyone who was there looked like a tourist. Given the extremely high prices (maybe the highest in Aspen), and the obnoxious cancellation policy, I expected to feel like I was in a cool spot. Our meal was fine, except the tacos that were really fishy. The sommelier's snobbish attitude left us feeling embarrassed after we ordered a $100 bottle of wine. When the Betula opened it had the cache of Saint Barts but it has certainly gone down hill.

This is a wonderful hidden place to dine when the weather is perfect in Aspen. The glass doors open up the whole wall and the canopy over the outdoor deck is lovely. Service is attentive and excellent. I had a wonderful rum drink that had an icy topping and slice of apple. Then I had the duck breast which was superb. It was served with a chimichurri sauce that was amazing, and a sweet potato mash, and also mushrooms and roasted carrots. My partner had roasted chicken with a brown sauce that was better than any other chicken either of us have had. It's pricey but wonderful. Lovely evening.
Be the first to ReplyGreat seafood dinner in Aspen
Betula delivered a good seafood dinner for my wife and I. Mauro did a nice job with our service. Good cocktails. Only complaint would be it was a little tight regarding table spacing.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great service, view of toilet
The staff and kitchen were amazing at accommodating my food allergies. So much of the food in Aspen has the same feel, but Betula is interesting. I just wish I hadn’t had a seat by the hot kitchen, the toilets, and a strip mall store. It made me feel very sad and this is my last memory to take away from Aspen.
Be the first to ReplyCrazy loud music!!!
The food was very good although very expensive and the wine was extremely expensive! The worst part was the outrageously loud music!! I asked a few times to please turn it down and it only got louder! I don’t know how the people who work there put up with that. By now they must all be deaf!!

We shared a starter: the Tuna Ceviche and then had the Salmon and the Trout as main course. It was delicious. Also the desert is top! This quality deserves a Michelin Star

Delicious. Warm and inviting environment. Very capable staff. Makes the high price worth it. The owners ran Pinions, a long time favorite.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing views and food
I highly recommend! Beautiful views, sofas, soft DJ and remarkable food. Book a reservation with a mountain view outside!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food. Great service.
The food is delicious. Staff was attentive. It is a St Barth's Isle de France experience at atmospheric St Barth's Isle de France prices.
Be the first to ReplyRude staff & inconsistent food
I came here 3 times & twice the hostess was so rude we actually left. The food the 1st time was delicious & so we came back. Then the food was nothing to write home about. They are a restaurant on top of a strip mall of stores that is hard to get to. Either you walk up a few flight of stairs or take an old broken down elevator. It feels like you will never there & it might break down on your way. Then you are greeted by a woman who has a cold & harsh personality. She seems to hate people & her job. She will not accommodate you no matter waht. They obviously don’t care & they go out of there ways to show it. Try asking for a table or cushion or anything special forget it. They don’t care here. They just want to treat you like another annoying customer. I will never come back!!
Be the first to ReplyLove the vibe – great experience two years in a row
Betula was our favorite restaurant on our first trip to Aspen last year, so my wife and I made sure to return this year when we were in town. We had a great experience again, and I just love everything about it, including the food, the atmosphere, and the interesting drinks. The overall vibe is just perfect for Aspen – lively and upbeat, but not crazy or obnoxious either.
I do find it a bit annoying that this restaurant doesn’t seem to release their full restaurant availability on OpenTable when reservations open up. I went to make a reservation on the first day that our date was open to reserve, and only reservations around 5:00 and 9:00 were available. However, when I called the restaurant, they very quickly switched us to a time we preferred with no problem. It seems that it’s not necessarily hard to get a better reservation time, but you have to make extra effort and can’t just book it online.
The restaurant is owned by the same owners as Bonito in St. Barth, and it has an upscale island vacation vibe to it, which works surprisingly well in Aspen. It’s fun to come out of the cold and dine somewhere that takes you straight to feeling like you’re in an upscale part of the Caribbean.
Our table was ready right when we arrived, which was great since we had an issue last time with having to wait well beyond our reservation time for a table. We were seated at a nice table by the window in the main room where the bar is located, and we had only positive things to say about the experience. Service throughout the meal was good and friendly, and was exactly what we needed in terms of being present at the right times and always knowing when we needed another round of drinks. The overall pace of the meal was leisurely, but in a good way so we could enjoy the music from the live DJ and have plenty of drinks. A playlist of Betula’s songs is available on Spotify, which we’ve enjoyed listening to since then at home.
We really like the unique Betula cocktails, and made sure to try several of them. We started with some of the more spirit-forward ones, including the machado old fashioned the pinche picante, and the anejo a la mode, which were really good. It was nice to see that the more spirit-focused drinks are just as good as the lighter ones, which we had tried more of on our last visit. I also had a Bubbling Bonito, which is a sparkling watermelon and cucumber drink that just takes you straight to the Caribbean. I don’t think we really had a favorite drink – we just thought they were all really great, high-quality cocktails, and we look forward to our next visit to try even more of them.
For food, we split the tuna tacos as an appetizer, which are one of their signature items that are great. We both opted for fish/seafood entrées for dinner, trying the crispy skin striped bass and spicy shrimp with plantains. Both were nicely prepared and fresh, so we enjoyed that course as well. The shrimp was maybe a little spicier than I would have liked (although our server gave me fair warning about this), so the bass was the winner there. We finished the meal with cappuccinos and the banana flambe au rhum, which is presented really nicely when it’s flambeed tableside. It’s basically a chocolate cake with banana, rum, and ice cream, and was very delicious.
Just like last year, all of the food we had at Betula was quite good and we just had a great time dining there. The music, vibe, and décor were perfect for a nice dinner on vacation, and I would not hesitate to come back or recommend it to others. I don’t often see Betula ranked all that highly among restaurants in Aspen, but we really think it’s one of the best options in town and is a perfect complement to an Aspen vacation.
I enjoyed the flavors
My friends and I ate here last week and I really enjoyed it. Overall, more than anything, the varied flavors made this place interesting. I also appreciated the comfortable seating and the overall ambience. It was expensive for sure, and I do think it's crazy to pay $35 for ceviche (having lived in Peru, I know the real thing), but this is Aspen. My ceviche was delicious and I had a salad to go with and some delicious, creative cocktails. Service was friendly and efficient. I enjoyed this place, so did my friends, and would return.

Outstanding in every way! I would rate this one of my top restaurants, ever. The atmosphere is terrific, great ambiance. Our server was terrific, and the meal, wow! Excellent and a MUST!
Be the first to ReplyShould be top 10
This was our second time to Betula, and we were just as amazed as the first. This restaurant should be more highly ranked as it’s definitely one of the top 10 restaurants in Aspen. You’ll note that the prices initially seem a little high, but the portion size, seasonal freshness and inventive presentation is worth every penny. We started with a Sorghum Salad at $29, which is the type of grain, but the salad was mostly delicious, fresh and beautiful mixed greens and beans. It’s more than enough salad to serve two people and my wife and I were not even able to finish it. My wife ordered the Chilean Seabass, which I was lucky enough to have a bite of, as it was tender and delicious. My wife said it’s the best one she can remember having in years. I had the veal chop, which was perfectly cooked and delicious, also sliced in advance for ease of eating and presentation. The service was excellent, the room is beautiful with elegant lighting, and the music is just a bit too loud, but that won’t stop us from coming back every trip!
Be the first to ReplyBeyond arrogant bartending staff.
Betula was one of our favorite restaurants in Aspen and we have been there many times. Success has clearly gone to the heads of the restaurant team there. We had drinks there before dinner and we had a shopping bag we had brought with us by our feet in the bar which disappeared while we were having drinks. A friend asked the bartender what happened to it and was treated beyond shabbily and disrespectfully which led to a needless scene involving two bartenders. The manager ultimately located the bag that they had picked up but the damage had been done. It was the worst service break-down I have ever witnessed. I wouldn't go back to Petula under any circumstances.
Be the first to ReplyThe big surprise in Colorado
After a few mediocre dinner, reviews to follow, this was the big winner.Service from the moment spot on, actually more wait staff than I've seen in a Fine Dining Michelin Star eatery. A DJ in the lounge provides a hip, yet decent vibe that matches the ambiance. Food is hands down creative and delicious. Certainly a refreshing find after the last few nights. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat outdoor space, good food, pricey
We enjoyed our dinner at Betula and the space was beautiful.
The food was pricey and it appeared that this was one of those restaurants where the wait staff definitely catered to "known" clientele.
Amazing dinner experience with an amazing view
We stayed over New Years in Snowmass and spent a few days in Aspen. We were looking for a restaurant with good food, ambiance, and the Aspen-feel. From a view perspective it doesn’t get better: you literally dine with an amazing view at Aspen Mountain. Since it was around New Years we had a fixed menu with options to choose from. I usually always have a course or two that I do not like too much. I must say that I am a picky eater. However, I felt the options were great and offered a good variety and the food itself was amazing. A “bravo” to the chef! The music and atmosphere was very good and hours went by with good friends in no time. Everybody within our group had a great experience. We hope we will be back in Aspen next year and Betula will definitely be part of our schedule again.
Be the first to ReplyBeware of portions
March 24, 2021. Ordered Rack of Lamb, $66. It was 2 1/2 ribs which is not even a half rack, it is essentially a double lamb CHOP. There is a big difference- totally false listing. First one was well done, sent it back, next- still well done but ice cold. Obviously precooked than re-heated. No sauce. Really disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Ambiance
This hard-to-find, neighborhood restaurant had an amazing set-up and was quiet despite being busy. My disappointment was the food. We ordered the duck and the mushroom risotto and one dessert with wine. When I got the bill there were two charges for the risotto $30 and $45. Yes. That is not a mistake. And it was not that good. The lesson? Don’t eat out in Aspen if you have to ask the price. They get away with this over priced value in every shop and store too. Not for me no matter how many millions I make. I’d rather go to Vail.
