Binchoyaki has street parking and is a small quaint place.
The service was okay and the place was fairly clean. We found that the prices were pretty steep and it took so looooooong to get our food. A little over an hour. We were there at a zero busy hour with only one other person there. Their a la carte type grill menu was expensive and took forever to come out and only provided one or two bites for a hefty price. The food was decent but we didn't get to eat together too much because nothing came out at the same time. I was really disappointed and won't return. Maybe if you get take out where your food will be ready when you get there (I'm hoping..) it might be enjoyable. If you're in no rush and don't mind higher prices, this would be an okay place to go too.

We had to wait two hours even though we came right at opening. Making reservations will be your best friend! Thankfully we had appetizers elsewhere and when we came back it wasn't a long wait. I think they got us in earlier. We tried a bunch of foods but I'll only highlight the ones we enjoyed best. Steak skewers were fantastic and the sauce was salty and flavorful. Chicken thighs with green onions were juicy and also flavorful. My favorite was the salmon with roe. Perfectly cooked, slightly underdone. The ikura was added a nice salt bomb. The grilled rice balls were a hit too. Perfectly seasoned, love the crispy outer area and then warm and soft inside. Mochi bacon was a great blend of sweet and salty. BD said it was too sweet for him but it was perfect for everyone else. Love the texture too. Service was fantastic. Attentive kind patient and friendly. Ask for the skewers with sauce. Or else everything will seem under seasoned. I went in to use the restroom and it was soooooooo smoky in there. Like I was very surprised people weren't complaining. It aired out by the time the twin went to use the restroom but I'm glad we sat outside.

Had a 5:30 reservation and had the audacity to ask for a heat lamp for outdoor dining. Multiple empty tables with heat lamps - that remained empty throughout our entire meal - but we were unable to be accommodated. Used to frequent this place 2-3x per month but after this unpleasant experience will be taking a break.

Have long wanted to try Binchoyaki and finally attempted to this evening (4/10) to start off a vacation. After arriving we stood at the hostess stand for several minutes and never even had a hostess or waitress look in our direction. I could count three open tables outside alone, with additional inside. After waiting more than 5 minutes, one of the waitresses walked up to the table just inches from us to give service. Again she never even raised her eyes in our direction. My girlfriend then stepped forward with a polite "excuse me, do we seat ourselves...?" and received a snarky "definitely do not seat yourself" from the waitress. Who then abruptly turn around and went back inside. No mention of grabbing a hostess or lending assistance. We figured this was just a bad timing coincidence, so we waited another 5+ minutes. Again, none of the servers even looked in our direction. So here we sit at Frank Fat's where we received immediate service in a much busier setting. Wanted to try it, but will not be back.

Came here when they opened for dinner on a weekday so there were only a few couples/groups in the restaurant. The inside is small and spare, basic tabes and chairs. I smelled the smoke of the grill the moment I entered so I imagine it could get quite smoky when busy. Although the service was slow, they were very nice and went out of their way to accommodate the food allergy that one of my party has. The food portions varied a lot based on the dish, but our server was happy to describe the size when we asked. The skewers are priced per single skewer and are quite small, but the noodle dishes we ordered were very generous. I wasn't wowed by the yakitori. The duck with leek and wasabi was tender and tasty, but the beef tongue was a bit chewy when it shouldn't be. The others were good but generally overpriced for what you got. Maybe I didn't try the right ones? The sukiyaki udon had a good amount of shaved beef and thin cut veggies. The buta moyashi ramen also had a good amount of shaved pork belly and fresh sprouts, but for me, the depth of flavor was missing. Garlicky but not the same as roasted garlic and lacked pork flavor despite the shaved pork belly. The dishes seemed a bit on the salty side too, but others may like the salt level. Overall, the food was decent, but for the price, I want something a bit more memorable.

Bring your patience if you're waiting for a table. But yes, it's worth the wait. The food is as fresh as can be and arrives hot off the grill, seasoned well & delicious. Keep an open mind and be adventurous. We saw the katsu sando go by our table and it looked amazing. Our choices were delicious and we left happy and full. Katy was our server and she was great. Her recommendations were awesome. The oysters, fried chicken and curry ramen were our favorites and were delicious. Next time we are trying the corn dog, katsu sando and strawberry parfait dessert!!!

Always a 10/10 when I come here, impressive to folks from out of town, great service, and an innovative and always-fresh menu.

Lexi was an awesome server! We had never been to this style restaurant before and really had no clue what was going on but she guided us through the whole thing and made really great recommendations. Would come back just for her!

With all due respect to Sacramento and the restaurants that call it home, I never thought I'd be jealous of the food scene here. Don't get me wrong - there absolutely have been places that I wish we had in the Bay Area (Butter & Bacon and Ginger Elizabeth immediately come to mind), but I have to admit those feelings grew even stronger after visiting Binchoyaki. In no small part because there seem to be tons of interesting spots that have opened up over the last five to ten years, but also because, compared to the overly hyped Yakitori Edomasa in SF, I found myself bemoaning the fact that the food there wasn't nearly as good as what we had here! Now, in fairness, Yakitori Edomasa is a purely yakitori restaurant, whereas Binchoyaki is an izakaya. However, the latter's yakitori offerings, which is the main feature of their menu, smokes the former's (pun intended) and it's not even close. Beyond just tasting better, the range of selections here is really impressive, offering numerous types of proteins, cuts, and preparations. As for the rest of the menu, it's pretty in line with most izakayas out there, but not all of the individual dishes are super traditional. Alongside staples like agedashi tofu, tempura, onigiri, ramen, and udon, you can also find more unique items like Arabiki corn dogs, fried shrimp tacos, curry fries, and Spam musubi. And, of course, they've got a wealth of beers, sake, nigoris, cocktails, and wines to choose from, too. ***Unfortunately, I wasn't able to snag photos of everything we had, but trust me when I say that all of it looked great. -- ARABIKI SAUSAGE...$7 Ehh...this was just okay. We got this on accident (marked the wrong line), but I was fine trying this. The sausages were juicy and had a nice sweetness to them, but they weren't all that special compared to everything else we had. -- NY STRIP LOIN (Niman Ranch)...$8.5 This was terrific! Every piece was meaty, had a delicious beefiness and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Not very unique, but really, really good. -- SHISHITO PEPPERS...$5.5 Pretty decent, though hardly amazing. The peppers were all fairly large in size and I liked how they had a slightly sweet and smoky flavor to them (akin to a grilled bell pepper). -- CHICKEN HEART...$5.5 We opted for this over the gizzards and I am so glad we did. The hearts had a nice chew to them (in a good way) and were especially well complemented by the char of the fire. -- BEEF TONGUE...$9.5 Tongue is a little hit or miss for me and this was right down the middle. The texture wasn't as tender as I would've liked, but the flavors were spot on. -- GRILLED BEEF RIB - Sweet Sesame Kakuni Style Braised & Grilled Beef Rib...$7 Aside from how difficult this was to eat (certain parts weren't exactly falling off the bone), this was pretty delicious. The rib meat at all dry like how I had feared and the sauce on this packed a nice punch. -- NEGIMA - Chicken Thigh/Green Onions...$6 Initially, I was a little worried about the chicken, but this was great! Every piece was moist and I liked how well the charred portions of the green onion complemented the chicken. Yum! -- MOCHI BACON...$6 One of my favorites of the night! Even though I wish the bacon was a little crispier, the mochi had the perfect amount of gooiness to it. I would've been stoked with a second order. -- HAMACHI (Yellowtail)...$19 If we had known how big the pieces were, we probably wouldn't have added this at the last minute. At the same time, I'm so glad we did because this was one of my favorites of the night! The fish was super moist and oh so tasty! Despite having tried so many of their skewers, and how much I thoroughly enjoyed the vast majority of them, I really wish we had tried other parts of Binchoyaki's menu. Their ramen would be chief among them, based purely on how many orders we saw pass by us, but also some of their izakaya items as well. In particular, their hamachi or maguro carpaccio would've been perfect to break up the continuous rounds of skewers and I would've loved to try their Onigiri, Buta Kimchi Itame, and their Gindara Misoyaki. Until we do (and we absolutely will), FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down for now.

of the best services in Sacramento. We are a couple with different dietary preferences. Our server was really detailed in explaining what are vegan/vegetarian options (including dips) and cross contamination items on the menu.As this is an Izakaya place we went for some of the sweekers. Within 15 minutes the restaurant was filled with smoke and our eyes burning with the smoke and my toddlers started coughing. They were quick to place the huge fans which cleared the smoke in another 10 minutes. But such basic things should have already been taken care of. It always needs to be well ventilated as the restaurant's best selling point is the most problematical. Food was ok. After this the bill had a default gratuity added which we was overkill after the discomfort we had. I would say all in all its a great place. Amazing service but average food.

I tried this place the 1st time this week with some friends in from out of town. It's definitely a dive spot, loud & fun. Service was good for being very busy. Food, well we ordered a lot. Oysters on half shell (not grilled), Krispy rice (the best dish of the night) shishitos, asparagus, mushrooms, chicken hearts, chicken thighs, duck, Hamachi Carpaccio, grilled yellow tail. With the skewers you can get house sauce or salt. Everything was good, not outstanding and I feel it could of used a little more char from the grill & the ones that got house sauce needed to be brushed or basted more while grilling. Some items where kinda dry and under seasoned and the yellowtail was overcooked & dry. We still had a good time and enjoyed ourselves.

To quote my husband, "I've never spent so much on lunch in the ghetto." Our bill was $250 for two after the "mandatory 20% gratuity." It still bothers me today that my right to tip was taken away from me. Now at least I can say (unlike some other reviews) that our server Andrew was wonderfully patient, took the time with us, and was knowledgeable . We actually tipped him more than 20% but in cash, so my beef is not with him! The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.... It has a low-end corner store feel to it. They try and make it cool that you are seeing the chefs cook but you can't see anything and like MANY other reviewers mentioned it gets so horribly smoky it is unpleasant. The food was good but not memorable for me. I'm bitter about the $10 "Pickle plate" - it had five sliced carrots rounds, one (I repeat ONE!!!!) pickled okra, and small pile of kimchi beetroot greens...biggest rip off ever. I got the fried rice ball spicy tuna plate but didn't like it at all. We got the skewers and they were good but nothing I couldn't do myself. The sashimi combo wasn't the fish I liked and they don't serve it with ginger and soy sauce (I guess I'm just not accustomed to Izayaka style - although out front it said "Japanese bar food" but bar food doesn't usually cost so much. We had the curry ramen which was good and we enjoyed the different options of hot sake. Two stars due to the high prices with low end ambiance and screw the mandatory gratuity. I think if I had known the tip was mandatory from the beginning that would of been better but we used a "hard copy" of the menu not our phone and there was no warning.

Been to this place a few times with different groups of friends and most recently heard great news about the Chef so decided to go again. This place has two different menus, one is for regular/ seasonal dishes and the other is for skewers cooked over fire. This concept makes this place very unique and gives you alot of things to try. The skewers come a la carte so that can get pricey. We went on a Sat night and they did not have a few items we wanted so we got a good variety for the group, the best ones were the oysters 1 pc each, the shishito peppers, and the Mochi bacon, both came with 4 pc each. The entrees came out kinda slow so get these ordered quick. I've been a few times and this always seems to be the case and my plate usually is the very last so take my advice and order everything early. The plates do come out as they are ready so thats good. The first out was the sashimi house special. The plate was nicely put together and the fish was fresh and enough for two. Next, was the loaded ramen. It was flavorful and was as expected. The shrimp tacos came next and it had 3 tacos plated very nicely but nothing special. They had a special menu and we ordered a loco moco style dish and it was made with a Japanese meat loaf fried in panko so it was a little crispy, rice, mushroom gravy, and an egg on top. This was the dish of the night but I'm a loco moco fan so keep that in mind. The other dish we ordered came last and was the drunken clams. This was a bowl with an ok amount of clams and sausage cooked in sake. It came with toasted bread so that was a good touch. The sake broth didn't seem to be cooked down enough and that would have made the dish much more flavorful. This place looked to be a good date spot as I noticed several going on that night. There is limited inside seating but they do have a outdoor area. I would recommend getting a reservation because we had one and we still waited 15 mins before seating so they are usually busy.
Be the first to ReplyCame in here tonight with my sister for our birthday dinner.
It was the first time either of us have dined at Binchoyaki. Nothing but good things to say about the food, employees, and overall vibe. We ordered the Krispy rice, tsuna mayo nigiri, yakiniku nigiri, and the mango vinaigrette oysters to start with. We enjoyed everything, but the oysters were both our favorite! I already wish we could go back and get more. After those items, we ordered some shishito peppers, eggplant, and the tan tan men ramen. We again enjoyed each of these items. Lastly, they gave us a birthday dessert which we both devoured. We didn't get our waitress' name, but she was great and it was overall a great experience. We will definitely be coming back!

If you're going to this restaurant plan to circle the blocks for a good 30 minute then call the hostess to ask for directions bc your GPS won't work. Then astonished when she can't give you directions. Then drive to another restaurant bc this is ridiculous. Then DM this restaurant for over a week straight bc they charged your credit card $50 for a no show. Then leave this review on Yelp.

I never write reviews, but this place deserves all the recognition. I don't know how this was my first visit. Dishes are stunning, well balanced, and creative made with high quality, fresh ingredients. Wasn't expecting something as simple as the onigiri to blow me away, but it did. Staff is absolutely incredible and every single person we interacted with was warm and happy to answer any questions. Made us feel right at home. The inside can get a little smoky, but it just means you get to take that great yakitori smell home with you. There is a nice patio area if you can't/don't want to tolerate the smoke. Do not miss out on this gem!!

we wanted to try a different dining experience and restaurant. stalking on yelp, the food looked super delish, but please note that alot of things i was wanting to try were seasonal. they still had a bunch if stuff on menu so i ordered: *the popular "set of skewers" and added more skewers of squid and mochi bacon. *a rice bowl of egg and mince meat (that was good). *pickle plate (super tiny serving and didnt enjoy the root).*ordered to go beef tongue carpaccio*couple of beers and couple soju drink.we honestly left not stuffed and the amount was over $200! we were table of three and automatic 20% gratuity. so tax and tip alone was about 50 bucks.
