New-American restaurant with creative spins on diner food. Made a reservation through Resy for four on a Wednesday at 7:30 on the patio. It’s valet parking for $8 (cash only) and street parking was next to impossible, although one of my friends got really lucky. The patio was nice because it was quieter than the dining room so you could hear each other talk. I liked the playlist on the patio too (lots of Hozier) and there are blankets if you’re cold.
The waiter was very nice although he wasn’t much help with picking out what to order. Everything was heralded as a must-order item, so in the end we all just picked a dish and unanimously picked a side so we ordered 5 things for the four of us (plus a dessert). It’s family style and you’re meant to share multiple dishes, so it’s good to come with a group. Food comes out in the order that it’s made.
In terms of nice restaurants, the service is top-notch, the food is creative but falls flat in execution for some of the dishes, parking sucks, and the ambiance is bustling and trendy.
Hang town Brei - scramble of pork belly and fried oysters (2) covered in a bright yellow orange hollandaise.
Libert duck confit (Wednesday blue plate special) - the duck meat falls right off the bone so I’d recommend just stripping all the meat and mixing it into the fried rice. The fried rice reminds me of something my mom would make at home (although she’d use spam and not duck).
Chicken liver mousse Texas toast - a bit disappointed by this one. The onions were tender but I didn’t like the texture of the toast, as I wish it was crispier to offset the mushiness of the mousse.
King trumpet mushroom fritti - these remind me of the mushroom fries at Bottega Louie; safe choice for a side dish, assuming everyone likes mushrooms
Kimberlys chicken scallopine - this reminds me of a higher end Caesar salad. The croutons were good, but it was kind of a mess to split up. Not very memorable.
Sticky date Bundt cake - my favorite part of the meal. It’s really sweet but it reminds me of an English pudding and the sauce was caramel-y and butter-y.
