Black + Blue Toronto Reviews from The Last Year
Snippy service
The decor is lovely. The food is delicious. The service was sub-par. The waiter was snippy and I expect much better in any restaurant, not to mention that this place aims to be one of the best. Waitstaff at Jacob's, the Chase and far less expensive places are pleasant and happy to serve. Not so our waiter on our recent visit. The best restaurant experience includes all elements and this one was lacking in a way that makes me question whether I will return at all.

Today we made a journey for brunch and dinner at Black and Blue Toronto. This is our first time brunch in this restaurant. We ordered a crab cake benny and lobster omelette. Crab cake benny is really really good to a point that we will for sure come back to have another time. This leaves a big contrast to the lobster omelette. There is so little lobster on top of the omelette with the mix of bell peppers. It also lacks flavors and definitely not worth $34. There is a promotion going on with free in house donuts in brunch time. Fast forward few hours later, we came back for dinner. Ordered a Prime Rib Sunday special and cod. For $69, it comes with Cesear salad, 14oz prime rib with 2 sides, and finish up with better cake. It is totally worth the price and enough for 2 people! We ordered the miso cod which is kind of Japanese style with soup base. Another wonderful dishes but we end up pack it to go. Great food, great service, good deal!! The signature buteer cake for dessert is good as always, but I am surprised by the brunt cheesecake. It is some smooth and creamy, and even better than the alot of dessert store who specialize in brunt cheesecake. Highly recommended Black and Blue!

Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and fantastic staff made this our go to spot for an entire trip.Every meal was an adventure. Love the happy hour menu options for food and drink.
Excellent Dinner, beautiful atmosphere, great staff-the whole package!
We were dining pre-show so very early reservation. Almost lunch/dinner that's how early we arrived (4:30)and our concern was that we would be in an empty restaurant but such is wanting a nice meal before a 7:30 curtain. While not filled the room still felt warm and welcoming. There were other tables on the go and by the time we got to our mains the room was hopping! All of the staff are friendly and accommodating. They will send you a text to confirm your reservation and request business casual/elegant attire is their dress code. It is very lenient. We saw people in everything from athletic wear/shorts to dressed for an evening out. It's all fine but I don't see the point of noting that if they don't enforce it. I am guilty myself of wanting a great meal even if I wander in underdressed. That said the atmosphere is elegant. We could see the bar from our table and it looks amazing. We started with oysters and they were delicious. So fresh and clean with a delicious mignonette. We then had an array of appetizers - the steak tartare prepared tableside is to die for, so delicious. The ceasar salad was also amazing. The carpaccio was great but if you want to go this direction go with the tartare. All but one of us had some cut of beef or another. All good. Cooked as ordered- so perfect! I shared the chateaubriand and it was everything you could want in chateaubriand! We ordered an array of sides (although mine came with veg and potato)the lobster mash is INSANE - buttery, lemony and so much lobster-the almost 1/4 tail piece on top was cooked perfectly. I point this out because most of the time this type of side has rubbery overcooked lobster. Not here. The wagyu fried rice was amazing as were the asparagus and brussel sprouts. The wine list includes our favourite but not commonly available in Ontario wines so that was a bonus. We have dined at the Vancouver location a few times with mixed experiences. The Toronto Location, if the quality stays the same, blows Vancouver out of the water. Such a different experience! I am not an easy 5 star. I have to note also I didn't look at prices, it wasn't a budget dinner, so this review is totally based on the experience and the food. We will be back that's for sure!
Average at best
Had dinner with the family. The steaks arrived warm as if they have been sitting for a while. The quality of meat was average. We expected a lot more for the price points. Very average, there are better options for steaks in Toronto
TLDR: ignore the bad reviews.
I seriously don't understand why the bad reviews? Karen much? Probably bunch of entitled rich snobbish Karens. Anyways, interior looks nice and classy. Dress code is business casual, but not super strict. Just respect the venue and don't come in with flip flops. We ordered beef Wellington, ribeye, and risotto. For appetizers, we got beef carpaccio, crab cake, and brioche. Everything was cooked to perfection, especially the ribeye and beef Wellington. Service was top notch. Our server Vig was fun and seemed passionate about this job. He took care of us from the beginning till the end and kept refilling our drinks without needing us to ask. Hands down one of the best steakhouse I have ever been to. Top notch service and high quality meat! Will definitely be back and hopefully we get Vig as our server again!
A Huge Disappointment
Six of us went to Black + Blue for a birthday celebration for my husband and father-in-law. Although the staff was attentive, and the side dishes were expensive but tasty, we paid over eight hundred dollars for waygu beef that was essentially fat and gristle. There were only a couple of decent bites of steak in the entire meal, and we felt totally taken advantage of. At this price point, a steak restaurant should know how to acquire excellent beef and know how to cook it. We will never return.

Another solid experience
Another solid experience at the bar. I felt like a recognized regular and treated well. Introduced a work colleague to this restaurant and he enjoyed it! I appreciate that they had my details from previous visits. PS. bring back the cocktail with wasabi.
The most amazing experience!! Went here for a birthday
The most amazing experience!! Went here for a birthday dinner and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Our guest service professional/bartender Ucal made the night very pleasant. He was engaging, attentive, very knowledgeable of the menu and drinks available. He had recommendations and knew how to explain his recommendations. The food was very tasty and came out fresh each time. The presentation was lovely.
Low Quality Food, Worst steak I’ve had in Toronto.
Disappointing. The quality of food is very very low, honestly terrible. The Steak is dry and tough, no where near as tender as the cuts should be given the price. I’ve had better steak for half the price down the street. It’s also served with no garnishing. The salad was drowned in cheap dressing, similar to what you’d get at a local bar. My friend tried the Otoro sushi nigiri and sashimi, said both were very oily and poor quality. I’ve been to almost every Steakhouse in the city so I was very excited to try Black&Blue after it opened up but unfortunately it was a huge let down. The interior ambiance is nice but the service is subpar. Waitress wasn’t rude but didn’t even bother to check on us after serving the food to see how we liked it. I would not recommend this place. The prices are in line with other high-end restaurants in the city but this one is just not worth it .

very average food for big money.
service is meh--not amazing, front desk very aloof. the bonus of the place is that it is beautiful.
Expensive but worth it!
What a treat, first class location, style, ambience and of course food. We started at the cocktail bar then moved on to our table, the service was excellent, friendly and funny (but bang on). The steaks are truly great but the Basque cheese cake was to die for. Wow!
This place is amazing! Tried it during the lunch.
..in a rush so cannot try the full set. However, the service and food here are amazing. The food is very tasty and creative with salmon crispy skin. The interior design is modern..vibe is great as well! Highly recommended! Will revisit soon
Great service
Great food and amazing service!! Kal was providing us great service and amazing atmosphere. Definitely be back at to this location.
Awsome!
Awsome Food, Very well trained and friendly staff. Wonderful atmosphere, definitely a great place!!!! Looking forward to go back in future
Award of Excellence, awesome job Tyler!!
The happy hour menu offered an opportunity for my wife and I to sample several menu items. The drinks on happy hour are good but the regular menu had drinks that were so tempting that we ordered the house specialty cocktails even though happy hour was still going on. Tyler, our waiter, took great care with us to make us feel comfortable with the restaurant because this was our first visit to Black and Blue. I was looking forward to the ribeye steak, my wife eats very little meat and certainly not steak. But we were both very happy with the choices on the menu to accommodate each of our culinary preferences. All the staff that we encountered were welcoming and friendly. No request was ignored, nor at any time was there any hesitation to grant our request even when my wife wanted to alter the charcuterie plate on the happy hour menu to include cheese. Tyler anticipated our needs and made our experience one of the best we've had in Toronto! I awarded Tyler The TripAdvisor Award of Excellence pin that I have been carrying for quite some time.
This is a nope for me.
Out of so many impressive restaurants in Toronto, this one is not it. Granted, the environment and decor is beautiful but for this price I was expecting better quality food and better service. Ambiance is great though so if you're here just for the ambiance then it will do. If you're bringing someone for a work dinner or lunch, I think this is a good place. If you're here for the food, there are many much better places in Toronto. I ordered the chicken entree and it was pretty tough and dry. The flavour comes purely from the sauce - the chicken itself has no taste. Another of our party ordered a steak and it was mid - there's really no other way to describe it. The service actually started out good, my water was always full and they would come around to scrape the food crumbs off the table after every course. However when it came time to pay and we wanted split checks the server gave us an attitude for even daring to request such a thing. First of all, our bill is not even that complicated to split and second of all I've never been to a Toronto restaurant that doesn't offer split checks. I know in other cities split checks may not be common, but in Toronto most restaurants will even ask you if you wanted to split the bill or pay in one bill so this is honestly not an astronomical ask. Anyway, we did tell them that if it's too hard it's fine we can pay in one bill and split it ourselves after but we would prefer just being able to pay for our own meals at the table. In the end they were able to split our bills but it also did take a very long time. Maybe their POS system is not versatile, is outdated, and is not able to split bills easily? This experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth bc you would assume a restaurant supposedly operating at this higher level, charging these higher prices, would be able to do this simple (and common) ask easily and without the attitude. I don't think this is asking too much at a restaurant where there is a $450 seafood tower on the menu and a regular (dry) roast chicken entree is already $39. Overall, not impressed and not a place for foodies.

We came here for dinner for a long weekend, got a reservation on a whim and it was the best meal I've had in my entire life. The table side caesar salad was amazing and the filet was perfectly cooked.
Great steak, service and drinks! Winterlicious menu.
Steak was perfect. I prefer black and blue to STK.

Came here for winterlicious but I did not know it's until 7pm only and I booked for 8pm. So we ordered from the regular menu which I expected to get a bigger portion than the fix menu of winterlicious. We ordered appetizer onion soup which tastes so good and beef tartare. The main dish was disappointing, the chicken was dry and no taste. My friend told me that he lost his taste, I tried his chicken and it really has no taste and dry. Need to marinate with the sauce on the plate longer to get the taste. My tenderloin steak is good but small portion. The headwine tastes good. Thanks for the lady staff that recommend the wine. The staff are friendly. Good customer service. Nice decoration and it was busy for a weekday late night dinner.

Banned from Resy for selling reservations- Do we have a rat on our hands???

I am new to this app and started off by selling a polo bar reservation and then quickly sold one more reservation. Not long after I received emails from Resy saying all my reservations are cancelled and I am being banned from Resy for life. How could this have possibly happened without a rat telling Resy that I sold the reservation. I need some advice on this situation and let’s catch the rat!

Yup it’s happened to me and a few others. And I believe I was baited by replying to a “bidder” and I made the rookie mistake of divulging too much information when asked 🤷♀️🙄
