Underwhelmed
I don't entirely get the allure. I first came to Blue Point years ago and loved having a fresh seafood restaurant in Princeton, with simple yet tasty preparations. The food is good but there are enough things that leave room for improvement. On this visit, I was disappointed with the smoked tuna pate. You mean tuna salad with some sweet pickles and tortilla chips out of the bag? This is a dish that should not be served. Our server was not engage. The order was taken, but our table was not monitored. The lobster ravioli beautifully presented, but more cheese than seafood. The clusters of lobster knuckle on top were a highlight. Y The dessert stood out and was sinfully delicious. Who doesn't love a chocolate chip cookie dome with a pot of melted chocolate in the middle and a scoop of vanilla? My husband loved his steak and brownie dessert. So the seafood , the reason for coming, could use a boost and some reworking

Fresh seafood at its finest. Perfectly seasoned and delicious. Salmon was perfectly seasoned and moist. Lime shrimp was amazing.
Be the first to ReplySo lucky to have this as our local restaurant
We've been coming here for 20 or so years. It is always great. Always tasty. Always easy. We are always welcomed and made to feel special. Tonight was no exception. Our server was Devin and she was lovely - knowledgeable, great chit chat and super professional. Our dinners were delicious and our welcome was warm. We are grateful to live in the neighborhood. Thank you!
Be the first to ReplyOur local go-to place
This is our go-to place in Princeton. You can bring your own wine and the starters are great and is a full meal for us if you pick a couple of them. (Sardines and octopus are our favs).
Be the first to ReplyA nice restaurant in the heart of Princeton
It was a date night here. The food and the service were both top notch. I had the scallops and my date had the char. Both were great, but the highlight was the octopus appetizer. The meal was also reasonably priced given its quality.

We have not been to Blue Point in years, although we regularly buy fresh fish from Nassau Seafood. It's all in the family. All four of us raved about both quality of the fish and the perfection of the preparation. These guys know how to prep and cook fish. I had Blackened Mahi that was GREAT! My wife had Swordfish that was also GREAT! Service is just fine. We promised to return soon.

Incredible food awesome service.. pressure sugar goes off the charts, incredible coffee French toast was ridiculously delicious moist
Be the first to ReplyGood but expensive
I had heard about this place, as it is the top TA rated place in Princeton. We came here for Restaurant Week. The clam chowder was very good, but the main courses were just average. The shrimp scampi had too much garlic. For the price, they could give you more.

Added some very interesting festive elements and regular menu specials. New twist always welcome. This local favorite is a place for extended fish menu
Be the first to ReplyNoisy, uninspired and expensive
We dined at the Blue Point Grill recently with our grandson/new college student. First the good points: we were seated promptly for our reserved table, the menu of fish choices is very extensive, the service was prompt, and the fish we ordered was nice and fresh. Unfortunately, the negatives made this visit a "one and done" for us. The restaurant is very noisy; we could barely have a conversation. The environment is nondescript. The fish is prepared and presented with no choice of flavoring or garnish, and no accompaniment other than a potato or sweet potato. The portion sizes ranged from adequate (think French restaurant servings, but keep in mind that at a French restaurant you will get two asparagus spears and some mashed potato piped through a pastry tube to go with your fish) to small (especially for our college student). The special of the day included "risotto", but it was a pasty mess. And all of this is offered at premium prices -- up to $48 for one of our fish entrees. Oh, Einstein -- why did you abandon Lahiere's and precipitate its closing?

We had a delicious meal with friends in this BYO Seafood gem in Princeton. Walkable distance from the shops and any number of local places to buy a decent Chablis to accompany your dinner. The fish was fresh, menu interesting, varied and perfectly presented...the service impeccable. Its the second time I've been and would surely go again next time I'm over in the US.

Sat immediately as we showed unannounced. The service was prompt and courteous. The food was so good. This is a BYOB place. I will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent seafood, location, ambiance, BYOB
Location: Right on the Main Street of Princeton. Service: Friendly and professional. Everyone smiles. Facilities: Air Conditioned inside, cafe tables for 4-6 outside. Value: This restaurant has a friendly, neighborhood feel. We were surprised that they have no liquor license, but they suggested a liquor store 3 doors down the street that had decent selection and prices on chilled white wine. If you BYOB, the wait staff will open the bottle and provide wine glasses and an ice bucket. We started with garlic wine mussels and bread, then she had the รฉtouffรฉe with shrimp, mussels and crawfish, I had trout amandine. Portions were generous, we took home half for the next day. Pro tip: Two people could split one appetizer and one entree and still be well fed. Also, the BYOB policy saves wine drinkers $25-35 over what a restaurant would typically charge for wine.

Surprised at the lack of presentation on the plate. For $40 a plate I expected more. Food tasted good.

This is the second time I am reviewing Blue Point Grill. We frequent the restaurant soften and it never ceases to amaze with its deliciously fresh fish and wonderful service. My boys and I went on a Tuesday night and had the best oysters weโve ever had. The sampler is a must if you are an oyster lover. The jalapeรฑo lime shrimp is also one of the best appetizers on the menu. I had sea scallops with baked sweet potato and my sons each had the grilled tuna and blackened mahi. All of us enjoyed our meals thoroughly. It was beautiful eating outside and we loved our server. Donโt miss the rooftop!

When I first walked into Blue Point Grill, the maรฎtre dโ asked whether I preferred the dining room or the roof. I requested his recommendation and without a word, the hostess led me outside around the side of the building to stairs. On a clear evening with the temperature around 70, the combination of an upbeat crowd and a view over Nassau Street was perfect. I ordered the Alaskan Sable. One of my dinner companions selected the Florida Mahi Mahi and the other the Florida Red Snapper. The verdict was unanimous: well prepared and simply delicious. We all landed on the same dessert, Flourless Chocolate Lava Cake and again, we all were in consensus that it was delectable. Service was friendly and attentive. The only flaw was the bread brought to the table was a little on the stale side. My recommendation is when you are in Princeton, make Blue Point Grill your Best Friend for Fish.
Be the first to ReplyGood vibe - Good food
Love the BYOB! Clam chowder - very good with a nice amount of meat. The fish entrees were excellent.
The only disappointment was the size of the desserts - Very Small for $9.
Highly recommend, just skip the desserts!
The seafood place in Princeton
If you want simple elegance and seafood, this is the place to go. It is largely regarded as one of the best restaurants in Princeton and I think it's true, but they still have some work to do around the edges. The food is always prepared to feature the seafood, with minimal dressing up. It is BYOB, something that is embraced with vigor. The service was a little inattentive. I am generally forgiving in COVID times, but was disappointed that the server did not think to ask us if we wanted an ice bucket. It seems this was an absolute for the tables surrounding us. The octopus was too oily. On the other hand, I enjoyed my halibut, my husband his steak, and the key lime was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyA MIXED EXPERIENCE
A varied and nice menu, lots of outdoor seating and attentive service. However, the food was a bit disappointing.
The disappointments started with the bread, which was still cold from the refrigerator. The goat cheese salad had little if any dressing. The lemon butter sole was devoid of any seasoning and lemon flavor.
On a positive note, the lobster bisque was good with lots of lobster pieces. Also good was their version of shrimp and crawfish etoufee, which was cooked perfectly.
All in all, a mixed experience.
Very nice meal
We had an excellent meal here. The appetizers of calamari and crab dip where fresh and hot and tasty. We had four different fish and all were done well. The only issue was that the service was a little slow. Over all and great dinning experience
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
A great sellection of seafood from around the world. It is simple as seafood should be and well cooked which the important part. Faultless really, everything we had was great and we left nothing behind.
Service was prompt and very courteous, advice given when asked for without being intrusive.
Waiter was brilliant, even when one item from our starters was ommited by mistake he apologised profusely and when the bill was brought he actually brought the ommitted item in a take out bag on the house. This was amazing gesture never encountered anywhere I have been in the world.. well done and thank you.
Great restaurant, friendly employees!
This restaurant was a great experience. Although it was very packed when I got there and I was told I would have to wait from 6 to 9 PM in order to dine in, one of the hostess went and found me a seat. I enjoyed every bit of my meal. The food was highly satisfying and service matched above adequate. Food came out fast and steamy. I purchased the Crawfish รtouffรฉe. It had shrimp, crawfish, sausage, clams, and rice. First time eating clams and it was great. I am from Louisiana and did not expect the seafood to be up to par. Great price for the meal and service as well.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dinner
My wife and I had dinner here in April on a Sunday. We ate outside. I had New England Clam Chowder, Chilean sea bass belly baked with salt and pepper, wild rice and creamed spinach. My wife had a lobster roll and sweet potato fries. The service was good and the food was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyNice place to visit on a warm day.
With the recent development of opening the indoor dining there you can sit inside but most people still prefer the outdoor version but that doesn't dissuade anyone.
The place serves mostly fish and seafood dishes and if this is your cup of tea it would be a great place for you and ability to BYOB also helps that a bottle of wine could be better then most places offer.
Came here for sort of late lunch I had trout I honestly haven't had much better kids had some salmon (not overcooked that is a great plus in the kids portions). Octopus appetizer was the only thing that was sort of disappointing but not because it was badly done just sort of didn't impress as much as everything else. But overall I would love to visit again.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY
I went there to celebrate Valentine's Day with my boyfriend , and had high expectations from the many positive reviews. However, my experience was totally different. The corner they sat us in was in a freezing corner, the water tasted horrible (like toilet water), and it was very pricey for what we ate. $14 for FIVE shrimps ?!?! NOT WORTH IT. Also, the shrimp scampi my boyfriend ordered tasted like ramen noodles. Had high expectations, but was VERY disappointed by the food.
