Fabulous.
Waiters delightful, professional. Food delicious. Old world. Happy it has remained with its ambience and charm.

There are 3 historic restaurants in the area worth coming to if you're visiting for the first time and this is one of them. Really loved the beef tartare. My oldest ordered fish for the first time and liked it. The mashed potato was also so smooth and creamy. Staff really needs to be better organized as they crowd around without any semblance of table assignment. So you'll have to ask more than once for something. Beware they charge you cover! We came here the first night in town, and later wished we had gone instead to Procope or any of the other restaurants with better value food.

..this is the place. Only restaurant in Paris where we were treated rudely!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service.
Had a 930 reservation and was seated and ignored for 15 mins while others ahead of us were served. The waiter then insulted us for not speaking French and ignored us a bit longer. I've eaten here once before and had a similar experience. Over priced and overrated and still getting by on its age. Don't go here.

English If you like to wear shorts in the heat of August, you can not eat here, as the alte kaker waiter indicated by only pointing at a sign that is inside. Go to Cafe de Flore or le Duex Magots instead. They are both across the street, have delicious food, and always provide very friendly service at both locations.
Be the first to ReplyOverall decent place to get classic French bistro food.
I was craving choucroute, so I got that. The Chou wasn't too acidic and I liked the quality of the meat. Was definitely worth the price. The ambiance was nice while the service was not so great but to be expected. I would seek out smaller places before returning here.
Be the first to ReplyTypical brasserie with nice atmosphere and good enough food.
Service is very lacking. I get the take it slow and enjoy culture but we spent almost 3 hours and never felt taken care of. I would prefer to try something else.

My lovely bride and I stopped in for a late lunch on a weekday at the end of May. The ambience is old-school brasserie - very warm and inviting. Service was pleasant and attentive, even for a couple of American patrons whose French is pathetic. My better half ordered the sole meuniere, and she ate every bite. I had my standby, steak frites. The steak was a bit tougher than I expected, but the bearnaise sauce saved the day. Best frites we have ever had. For dessert, we recommend the Napoleon Cake and the Baba Rhum. They also serve an excellent Sancerre in a half bottle. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyNice meal in the 6th.
Old school Brasserie with old school classics. Warmly greeted and seated downstairs -- not upstairs in "Siberia." The room was loud, full of Americans and a bit warm. More like NYC than Paris. We wanted to try it for the history, and the fact that it is a five minute walk from our hotel. Ordered the razor clams to share as an app-- etherial! The best, most tender, succulent clams I have ever had. I could have eaten five plates of them, a baguette and a bottle of Sancerre and I would have been happy! For our plats, my wife had the special of beef braise and carrots; I had the sole meunière. Both very good. A few glasses of wine and we were done. Again no room for desert -- merde!

EXCELLENT service. Standard fare which we expected but served with aplomb. Very enjoyable experience. Very fine to see single diners, likely locals, dining comfortably alone.
Be the first to ReplyVery Paris.
.. maybe a little too much so. The service was excellent and brusque. My smoked salmon was very good but the beef au poivre was tough. Happy to have been, don't know that I'll be back.

We stopped here for dessert after dinner at Les Deux Magots, which is just across the street. It was part of our search for Hemmingway. Turns out, he's been dead for a long time, and that's the sense we got from this place as well. What we wanted was simple enough, a Creme Caramel to share and a couple of drinks. The service was slow, the staff wasn't terribly friendly, and the food wasn't anything special. It's not that anything about this place was bad, just that nothing stood out either.
Be the first to ReplyAn institution, been coming since the 1970s as a child.
Not really a Summer place, make sure to visit in Winter and order the choucroute garnie with a glass of Calvados. The waiters must be the same since the Seventies

i was recommended this brasserie by a friend of mine who is from paris! really neat traditional-style french brasserie with cool decor and great service. we sat down in a table which they had to pull out for us to sit down on the inside next to the wall, made it fairly inconvenient to use the restroom had we needed to.what we ordered:-foie gras: so good, i didn't like the jelly that it came with though. they kept refilling our bread basket as we ran out of bread very quickly!-sausage: 10/10 did not think i would like this as much as i did. came with some mashed potatoes(?) that were so creamy and good-escargots: had a little bit of a briny flavor to them, not my favorite but glad i tried

I'm going to start by saying I'm surprised to see so many one star reviews, especially ones talking about the service. I found Brasserie Lipp to be a fantastic experience. Our waiter was quite funny and treated us very well. The ambiance was nice, we sat upstairs. The one thing is the lack of AC, but this is normal for places in ParisI loved the food. From the appetizers to the main dish. The steak was absolutely delicious, some of the best I've had. I love the way they cook the meat, traditionally French steak is cooked closer to rare. The entrecôte was amazing and I highly recommend ordering that. Overall, you should definitely give Brasserie Lipp a try it's a good change from all the super trendy modernized restaurants built for tourism that you find throughout Paris. It's been around for over 100 years and it is definitely a more traditional atmosphere.

Don't do it, unless you like insulting service! The older gent that took our order was kind, but our server raised his voice at me when I didn't understand a rather obscure French word (for a type of fish). And the waiter, it turns out speaks English well...but not before almost shouting at me repeatedly. The food was a bit hit and miss, but the rudeness of the waiter completely destroys one's experience!
Be the first to ReplyEverything at Brasserie LIPP was wonderful.
Melon jambon D'Auvergne. Éventails d'avocat et crevettes. Pavé de ton mi-cuit. Filet de bœufs avec purée de pommes de terre. Saucisse au coteau grillé. Haricots verts frais. The kids didn't like everything but were troupers, trying everything until they found something they enjoyed. All that and super-polite French waiters! My only note is that infusing les millefeuilles with rum unnecessarily turned off two out of three kids. Many thanks to Kelly Thomas Mebane for the recommendation.
Be the first to ReplyThis traditional Paris brasserie was "traditional " in all
This traditional Paris brasserie was "traditional " in all the wrong ways. Food was mediocre, children were not welcomed, and the waiters were the rudest I've experienced in France. We waited for a waiter to appear, plates were literally thrown on the table, and both of pur waiters were rude to the children. Why a hotel concierge would recommend this place, I do not know. But if your hotel does, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

Come for the roast chicken, because it is, in fact, the BEST roast chicken I have ever eaten in my whole adult life. I also got the escargot to start (when in Paris!) and two glasses of a white wine that I do not recall (alas). As I was dining solo, I was put at a seat right by the door area -- which meant that most of the diners who were waiting were staring (hungrily, I imagine) while I ate. But I chose to ignore them and savor every bite and morsel of my amazing meal. Oh, and I asked for mayo to dip my fries in -- something I highly recommend you do too. Lastly, I capped off my meal with mille feuille and it was superb. LOVE this spot. Definitely adding this to my list for my next visit to Paris.
Be the first to ReplySo if you want to experience the worst in service please
So if you want to experience the worst in service please visit Brasserie Lipp. We have travel extensively and have visited Paris many many times, tonight we were treated to a horrible meal and rude service. It was a Sunday night and we made the decision spur of the moment ..... should not have done that! I would suggest that if you are from any where other than Paris do not go here. The Parisian family sitting next to us was insistent and demanding and was respected by the wait staff. So find another place, this one is horrible

Old school brasserie with the required grumpy waiters and heavy on salt and butter. It was surprisingly good for what I'd consider a touristy place. Excellent Brandad Morue. Will happily go again. You don't come to a place like this for anything invented in another country or since 1918.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the more dissapointing experiences in Paris.
Had heard so many great things about this calssic spot, none of which turned out to be true. The ambiance is 5-star, the service is 1-star, and the food is a 2, compared ot other outposts in Saint Germain des Pres. Go to Deux Magots for a better experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was pretty good here but the service was not great.
My table was consistently looked over by the waiter to other tables at the restaurant. In addition, we didn't receive 2 items that we ordered but we were still charged for them. The waiter never asked if we wanted a drink refill, either. Overall, it was fine but after a week in Paris it was probably our least favorite dining experience. The food was good but after the experience we probably wouldn't come back.
