Food is incredible.
Got the dim sum special to share, sausage fried rice and filet. I've tried an Old-fashioned and Martini, both of which were on point. Ambiance is really cool. It's a huge, dimly lit, Asian temple vibe. The bar area is essentially a dark lounge with comfortable seating and high ceilings. Prices are pretty reasonable for a place like this tbh. Has become one of my favorites in NYC

I've been coming to Buddakan for quite some time now, The first 5-6 times I loved it amazing ambience. Then, the last 2 times the food quality and service was the worst i've had. Food was under cooked and the steak I ordered gave me some of the most extreme food poisoning i've had. I hope you guys can improve soon.

Went for a girlfriend of mine's birthday and the atmosphere is fabulous. It's forgiving if you wear a revealing outfit, or get an accidental smudge on pants and be fine because it is so very dark. Now the food: everything was 10/10. The lamb chops, peppered steak, oxtail dumplings, Chinese sausage fried rice, and their version of bang-bang shrimp was all prepared and seasoned perfectly. We ordered an array of dishes to share and you should too if you visit: Do not rob yourself of only trying 1-2 items here. I will add that getting the kimchi rice was a nice break from the meat and oily dishes we got; it was light and the kimchi still had a nice bite to it. Overall, fantastic vibes, service was great and I can say the food will have me coming back for a random night of amazing food. By the way, with all that we ordered (split 4 ways, 1 cocktail each and gratuity included) our bill was 90/person.

The Asian restaurant impressed with its delicious food, cozy ambiance, and attentive service. Robin, our server, was friendly and efficient, while manager Dragana ensured a smooth dining experience. Overall, a great spot for satisfying Asian cuisine.

I loved the look and feel of this restaurant- Buddakan is a high end Asian restaurant in Chelsea. We had reservations but were running late - staff was really helpful in pushing out our reservation and accomodating us later. We got seated in one of their inner dining rooms but i loved their main area - dark, high celings with lovely decor. We started with cocktails - Blush, Jade, and. dragon fruit cocktail. I liked the Blush (lychee based), skip the Cucumber based one - was not good. For appetizers and mains, we for the edamame dumplings, the mapo tofu, the eggplant tofu, and the crispy tofu. The mapo tofu was great - not too spicy, others on the table thought it could use more flavor/have more of a sichuan taste and I felt the same but overall it was good. The crispy tofu was a table favorite- crisp and sweet - an interesting combo. The eggplant tofu was decent - the pineapple and cashews that were added made it unique. For dessert, we got the matcha semifreddo - this had a clementine sorbet on top with blondie crumbles - really delicious dessert with a gorgeous presentation. The dessert was the highlight for sure. Would come back for drinks and dessert - entrees were decent if you arent craving authentic Asian food. Great ambiance - so good place for drinks

This place is so good I ate the crab fried rice and the dim sum tasting super yummy. Service was amazing Ambiance was really relaxing and quiet. My favorite was actually the the mocktail drinks ughhhhh I want more

Great ambiance, food and drinks were good but I can't say it was mind blowing. Service was on the slower side the night we went. Would recommend for a nice night out.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service! We got sat almost right away upon arrival.
Our server Alex was very attentive and was kind enough to go over the menu since it was my first time and one of the managers came by to check on us as well to make sure everything was going smoothly. The Black Cod was absolutely fantastic! Will definitely be coming back here

I've dined at Buddakan three times in the past two years, but my first two times were for work events. I've been seated at the iconic long table, a smaller table to the side of the long table, and this time in another room to the left of the stairs. The elegant and mysterious vibe of the restaurant has remained consistent. Not one thing I've had at this restaurant has disappointed either, although some dishes were more standout than others. The dim sum tasting is a unique experience, since as a dim sum lover, I am only used to traditional dim sum flavors. The dim sum served here has its own twist on the original dim sum, and it's fun trying each of the dim sum here one-by-one with the rest of your party. I wouldn't say anything is particularly standout for me from this order, besides the shrimp toast because I generally love shrimp dim sum. One thing I would like to note is that the edamame dumplings taste way better after dipping it in the soy sauce. Oh, the Kung Pao Monkfish and the Dungeoness Crab Sticky Rice. I didn't order the Lobster Fried Rice this time around so I could try the crab sticky rice, and it did not disappoint. All three dishes: the fish, sticky rice, and fried rice live in my head now. If you love fried fish, you'll love the monkfish. It's crispy, and the flavor is just chef's kiss. The monkfish and crab sticky rice pair really well together too, since both are seafood dishes. I usually don't eat crab (not my preference for meat), but I loved this dish and even the crab part of it. The flavor went so well paired with the XO sauce. I also added an additional comment about an inside joke anniversary on our OpenTable reservation (the Sunday before Valentine's Day), and the staff did not disappoint. (They also added candles and a little anniversary chocolate on our dessert that we ordered.) The waiter was friendly, funny, and helpful with dish recommendations.
Be the first to ReplyI came here on Valentine's Day with 2 friends.
The food and service was good.. but the reason for the one star is because of the secret charge. The bill was over $400, we split it 3 ways. I signed off for $165 for my share plus tip. Checking my bank statement, I see they charged me $191. This is not okay Buddakan! Please return the money that is not due to you.

Swanky Chinese restaurant with impeccable interior designing but slightly disappointing food that have a generalized emphasis on salt/spices. $30 a dish. 3.75/5 stars as a dinner spot.

Food and ambiance were EVERYTHING- the staff were all very pleasant and all that we had on the tasting menu was beyond expectation. The flavor profiles and pairings were unmatched. I highly recommend this restaurant, even if it's for just a drink. The environment is suitable for just about every occasion-have a date, a birthday party, bachelorette, etc come here- you will not be dissatisfied or disappointed!

I've been wanting to come here for years, YEARS! I honestly don't know why I waited this long. Anyway I am so glad I finally made the pilgrimage. Service was great and the food was fabulous! The main room is really pretty but we were downstairs in the back and it was a little dark but still had a nice ambiance.

Been itching to try this place - ended up here for girls' night :) Also, this place is VERY dimly lit - needed my phone's flashlight for the bathroom. The dining area next to us was much darker... which was slightly concerning for me. They serve family style, so keep this in mind when ordering! We ordered the following: pork potstickers, tuna tartare spring rolls, chili rock shrimp, pork buns, monoglian lamb chops, lobster fried rice, sweet and crispy jumbo shrimp, cheesecake spring rolls, raspberry mochi donut, crying chocolate.*Appetizers: Those damn shrimps were delicious and the pork buns. The tuna tartare was good, the texture of the spring roll and tartare didn't do it for me. The pork stickers was good - it's usually hard to mess this up, I believe?*Main: Oh, the crust on the lambchops was AMAZING. The lobster fried rice is plain - it's really the rice, lobster, cilantro and saffron. The shrimp were delicious! I love the little sauce it was served with. *Desserts: The raspberry mochi donuts were everyone's favorite. It was served warm, and I assumed the raspberry filling would be in the donut or on top. It's on the side with the creme and boba. The cheesecake rolls were amazing with the coulis, HIGHLY recommend. Crying chocolate was okay, the ice cream was more enjoyable than the cake though. Definitely want to return with my partner here :)

I really liked the atmosphere and it really felt like a fine dining experience! I came with a large group and we tried various dishes. Some of my favorites were the lamb chops, lobster egg rolls, oxtail dumplings, and chili rock shrimp (AMAZING). I also liked the lobster fried rice but it was more on the blander side. The drinks were pretty good and my favorite was the Vigor. The service was great and fast. I would definitely return to have this delicious food again!!

The rice choices were good! I got the sausage fried rice as well as the oxtail dumpling's and they were both delicious. The restaurant had a nice ambiance but was too dark.
Be the first to ReplyTwo words: Absolutely not.
This place gives me elevated P.F. Chang vibes - basically, a wrapper around a very mid Asian fusion place. The price you pay is simply due to the ambience, not because of the food's quality. The dim sum platter included a questionable edamame purée dumpling which to me felt more like baby food if it came in a dumpling. The entire experience was quite frankly, very odd. Beautiful space though.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance was terrific.
Dimly lit room with a large open room in the center. The space is sprawling, yet still intimate, which is difficult to pull off. The service is definitely slow. When we walked in it took us 10 minutes for the hostess to even talk to us. There were 4 women at the greeting desk and they were all on their radios. It was kind of annoying but we did eventually got seated. We started at the bar, which is a good way for them to get an extra drink out of your visit, good strategy to make some more money. Anyways, we got seated and overall the experience was "ok", definitely nothing to write home about. The waiter didn't introduce himself, didn't want to help with the menu, and sparingly checked on us. This seems to be a trend post covid, service is definitely lacking wherever I go. The food was pretty good! The oxtail dumplings weren't bad, the monkfish was interesting and had a pretty decent sauce, the sizzling rib was average (or below average for Texas standards). The star dishes of the show were the rock shrimp and the Chinese fried rice! Be sure to get these dishes when you visit. I'm actually going to try to emulate the rock shrimp at home, they were so good. I've only liked 2 fried rice dishes in my life, this one and the table side fried rice at Hakkasan in Las Vegas. Would I come back? Maybe, but not for a while. There are so many choices in the city, and the value for quality here was alright. For this price range you can treat yourself to some nice Michelin star experiences.
Be the first to ReplySo you know, a place is expensive when the lights are dim.
This place is big and very beautiful. We made reservations for 11 o'clock and we did not have to wait to be seated. We ordered the oxtail dumplings. We also had the vegetable fried rice, the black pepper beef ( that name could be wrong), chicken, the chili shrimp and beef rib pancake and scallion. The veggie fried rice was different but it was good ( I'm not afraid to try new things ). I wasn't a big fan of the oxtail dumpling maybe if it was fried ( I didn't like the texture) the beef was good and it came in what looks like a basket, but the basket was edible it was made out of potatoes. The beef wasn't hot maybe they made it first and had it sitting . I'm not sure the name of the chicken but it was good , nice and juicy , I had the royal drink (wasnt nasty but just wasn't my taste ) will definitely be back
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance was absolutely stunning.
It was dark but light enough, good music too! Super super fast service and got all the orders correct. Pork potstickers were really good and crispy! The noodles were so good and the sauce was too, slightly salty but it was good! The vegetable fried rice was so good, at first I was surprised to see rice as white! It was soooo good! The chicken was sweet and crispy! The spicy shrimp was good and as soon as you bit into it, it was the perfect crunch factor. The tofu was delicious. Best I've ever ever had! So good and great portions! We split each meal between all 4 of us and it was perfect. And for dessert, we had the pistachio ice cream and it was divine! Such a great restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing yes, BUT.
The drinks and food were great, delicious. Ambiance is clearly just gorgeous. However we had some issues with the service. We came an hour early for our reservation and decided to have drinks at the bar, so we did. After the first round the waitress dropped off the check, without any questions, then we had to let her know we don't wish to close out yet, we'd like a second round. Not a big deal still would've given 5 stars. The second incident happened when I left to the bathroom and my company did as well, when we came back the plate full of food was gone from our table!! I don't have to mention we were not longer than 2-3 minutes, the plate was still full of beef as of we only took 3-4 bites and we were not asked if we're done.. we weren't.. our belongings stayed at the table so assumption of leaving wasn't an option either.. but still.. ASK us first! When we went to ask about what happened with our food we were told they're sorry but we were still charged for it and have not received any discounts.. Overall would've been a nice experience but when something is high value you don't appreciate mistakes like this.. clearing the plate when it was still full and no compensation.. so just make sure someone stays at the table when you visit:)

I've heard of buddakan plenty of times and knew it was somewhere I wanted to eat at during my trip to New York. I was a little hesitant as is always the case with well known restaurants with hefty prices: is it just the cool ambiance or is the food actually worth it? Well I am happy to say the food was delicious and it was definitely worth it! Half of my table wanted to try the chef's tasting menu for $90. At first our waitress denied our request by saying the full table has to order the tasting. However, she quickly accommodated and let us rearrange ourselves so the five were all seated together. This tasting consists of 5 appetizers: edamame dumplings, general Tso dumplings, Peking duck salad, chicken and shrimp egg rolls, and salmon dumplings. Everything was portioned so that each person could get one serving, however it was definitely enough. My favorites were the salad for its fresh acidity, the egg rolls for the savory flavors of the meats, and the general Tso dumplings for the delicious broth that oozed out. For the entrees, we got a black pepper beef, cod, chicken, crispy shrimp, vegetable fried rice, and mixed veggies. The standouts for me were the beef, chicken, and rice. The rice was so unique and delicious, it came with this coconut cream that complimented together so well. Two desserts were brought out to finish off the meal and I got my own dessert to celebrate my bachelorette, I thought this was a sweet touch. The desserts were nothing that stood out but by the end of this meal, you're stuffed. I think the tasting was a great way to sample a large and slightly overwhelming menu and now I can positively say I would be back again!

This place is beautiful! I went here for a work dinner and I can see what all the fuss is about. The food was delicious, all of it. It's family style, I got to try just about everything. The only thing I wasn't impressed with were the cauliflower appetizers. Everything else was delicious, you can't really go wrong. The crispy tofu was amazing and I don't even like tofu! The drinks were great, the waiters and waitresses was great, the service was a bit too fast but its a big place so I understand having to stay on top of that. The host team in charge of reservations were very nice and accommodating, changed our table last minute to seat us on the main floor. Whether date night, group dinner or work event this place will accommodate and will not disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyA group of 6 of us came for dinner for my friend's 24th
A group of 6 of us came for dinner for my friend's 24th birthday. We had reservations for about 3 weeks prior and we wrote in the reservation a request for the long table and that it was her birthday. We didn't get the long table, not a problem we got seated at a 6 person and it was fine. The appetizers were really good, especially the pork buns. However, at 8:40, only an hour into our reservation a man in a suit with a headset (the manager? The bouncer?) came over and told us we "had enough time" and we had to give up the table. At that point we'd been waiting 20 minutes for the birthday dessert to come out. With the speed of the other food, we were already kind of surprised at how long it was taking for the dessert, as if the waiter forgot about us. Then, we told the guy in the suit we'd only been there an hour and it was a birthday celebration he stuttered like he didn't expect us to talk back and left. He came back like 10 minutes later and apologized and gave us "free dessert for the whole table" but they left off one of the desserts we ordered and only gave us 3 and we still waited over 20 minutes for the dessert (40 minute wait for dessert after food). The floating matcha dessert was alright but not as good as the rest of the food. (If you have a texture problem don't get it, get the lava cake) If I went back it would have to be like carry out or something because saying "you've had enough time" came off like he was pushing us around because we're all girls in our 20's.
