Not the same as it used to be.
We found the food to be quite mediocre. My Linguine Vongole was lacking in the flavor from clams. My wife's Lasagna was ok, but not great. After dinner, we waited for 15 minutes, and no server came over to ask if we wanted coffee, I had to get up to find a hostess and ask for an espresso and a bill. The bill still took another ten minutes. Very disappointing.

We studied the area restaurants for quite some time before deciding on Cafe Avanti and were so glad we came here!! Everything was perfect! We had a wonderful glass of Chianti and the bread was delicious - very like the crusty warm Italian bread we enjoyed when living in NJ and NY. We shared the Avanti Salad and it was more than enough. The greens were very fresh and we loved all the goodies - nuts, Gorgonzola and sliced apple. We both had Chicken Parmesan and it was fantastic and served with spaghetti with marinara sauce, also excellent. Our service was top notch with my water glass being filled almost as soon as I drank some and I drank a lot of it! The ambiance is upscale but comfortable; we were dressed casually but felt fine. We were there around 5:30 on a Saturday with no reservation and it was OK but I would suggest reservations in busier seasons or times.

We had Cafe Avanti's deliveries during our quarantine. Last Friday we decide to eat out for the first time and we chose our favorite neighborhood restaurant. I am so glad we did. Luis had implemented all city guidelines and more. I almost did not recognize Tudor because of the masks everybody was wearing. The place did not lose its great atmosphere and the quality of the food is its solid 5 stars, as always. I felt very comfortable. My husband and I had a great date night.

We had a family and friends luncheon there recently. Louis made arrangements and Ruben and crew served. It was wonderful. We had platters of Antipasto, Fried Calamari and Eggplant Rollatini with wine and mineral waters. Then we had a choice of Grilled Lamb Chops, Grilled Branzini or Pasta with Seafood. Some ordered other pastas. The Caesar Salad was really good. My Branzini was delicious - cooked perfectly with grill marks. Everyone loved the food and it was a cozy table tucked in a corner. Then came the desserts with Tiramisu, Chocolate Cake and Cherry Pie with coffees. This was a special occasion and they made it special. My family and I have been coming here for many years and it is always 5 Star. Friendly and Delicious. I wish I lived closer.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food and New Years Cheer
We made a 10 pm reservation for dinner on New Years Eve. It was a festive atmosphere, with lots of families with kids. My wife had the red snapper special, and I had the veal Marsala. We started with Caesar salads and shared an order of octopus.. All of these were delicious, the sauces were especially well prepared. As the midnight hour approached, most of us gathered around the tv to watch the ball drop. Noisemakers, hats, and strings of beads had been passed out before this, and many photographs were taken using cell phones. Music was playing, and many began to dance including folks from the kitchen who joined us to celebrate the new year. We live up north, but often come down to Miami Beach this time of year to visit with family and friends. Going to Café Avanti on New Years Eve has become a tradition for us.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Italian. Excellent Service.
All 4 of our meals were delicious. Service was impeccable by entire restaurant staff. Our Server, Desi, was very personable and took our food allergies seriously. We enjoyed a safe, delicious meal. Desi described his favorite sauce (named in his honor!), which isn't on the menu, but they made it for me and it was a delicious as he described it! The Pesto gnocchi was good too. Actually, everything was great--highly recommend.

We had one of the best meals here tonite. Very clean, and friendly staff. Our waiter Dezi was delightful. The veal was to die for.
Be the first to ReplyGood old school dining out
We visited Cafe Avanti on a Saturday evening and were surprised by how quiet it was (we were the last to leave at around 10.15). Maybe that's a sign of the pace of life of those who typically eat here - certainly it's less consciously hip than many other of the eateries we visited during our stay. What it is is a very good - some might say solid - old style Italian restaurant complete with attentive male waiters, a lengthy wine list and a dessert trolley. A mix of traditional starters (burrata and calamari) and hearty pasta dishes (no pre-prepared sauces here) - all were tasty and clearly prepared with care - left us all sadly too full for the dessert trolley.

We had a lovely dinner there. It evokes an old East Coast Italian restaurant...could be easily locate in NYC or Baltimore. The food was great, portions are enormous, service was prompt and efficient.

The food is good but the service is not the best. Their soups and pastas are excellent. Its located on a major street with parking in the rear.
Be the first to ReplyBest Italian Food I've Had Since I Was In Venice
I don't often write reviews. But this place is deserving of my recommendation. i had the parmigiano di pollo. It may have been the best I've ever had. My dining companion had the vitello piccata, which she had never had before. She loved it. We both agreed my dish was exceptional. For dessert, we had the house made rum cake. It was topped with meringue and had the best balance and flavor of rum of any I've had. Not only was the food wonderful, but the service was prompt and friendly as well. This place was so good I had to force myself to try different restaurants during my short stay in South Beach. Otherwise, I would have been quite happy to eat here every day. If you like Italian, don't miss this small, intimate restaurant while in the area. Molto Bene!
