French Bistro Brunch
Very small place, but accommodating. Went for Brunch and they DO NOT take reservations but have a waiting list. Very good food choices - baked goods were great (especially croissants!). Had a variety of breakfast/brunch items that were all excellent. Expect to be crammed around your table - very Parisian. Service was fantastic. Recommend you go and try when in Boston.

A very nice discovery! Delicious dishes, impeccable service, welcome in French and a friendly and cozy atmosphere! Don’t hesitate to come whether you are French or American!

Cute little French restaurant in the Back Bay. Tables are crowded together and the atmosphere was quite lively on a Sunday night. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer, truffle fries and side of champignones. For entrees we had the mussels and roasted chicken with sweet potato gnocchi. The chicken was mostly breast so a little dry and the gnocchi was very sweet. The sauce with coconut was rich and tasty. Nice lemon cake to end the meal - like pound cake with lemon icing and whipped ream. Service was efficient.

Let’s be clear they don’t serve any kind of French food instead you will get what some Americans think is French food. Where else than in the U.S. would you get a croque-madame with brioche drenched in lightly sweet creamy gooey? And the expresso is nothing like what you might expect in Paname. Basically this as much French as the tourist traps in the North End are Italian. On the other hand if you don’t go for the food it is a nice place to hang up with the French people of Boston once in a while.

Simply put —- what an amazing brunch! This was a delightful surprise with excellent food and service. We visited Cafe Sauvage during the April Marathon weekend, there is both indoor and outdoor seating. We tried to get a last minute reservation but, not surprisingly, were unable to do so —-hint: book a reservation ASAP. We decided to give it a try anyways and were able to get a table inside with maybe a two minute wait. The menu has a variety of options; we kept looking at what folks had ordered and we must have changed our minds a half dozen times as everything looked so so good. We ended up ordering a chocolate croissant (to share), a quiche, and an omelette. The omelette was light and fluffy, the quiche was amazing and perfectly cooked, and the croissant was so good we wondered why we each didn’t get one! The staff were great, non obstructive, and didn’t rush us. This is truly a laid back cafe off the main road but easy to find. In case you can’t guess we will definitely return for another brunch on our next trip to Boston.

I love great food & I love Sauvage Cafe! Food was outstanding!! My daughter had the sooo moist chicken sandwich which she shared a bite with me…YUM! I have the Sauvage Mama breakfast. Delicious! The mushrooms were sooo good.

On cold winter nights when you want the warm hug of a really good soup…they had exactly the French onion soup I wanted to dive into. This French-owned cafe is very cozy and charming. The food is not exceptional but its definitely enjoyable. I will come back here for their streak frites with bone marrow butter. So good! And truffle fries will never go out of style. Can’t have too much of it here. Loved the tangine but I could’ve done without the lamb meatballs. It’s good but I prefer the texture to be more meaty and less meatloaf-y. Service was excellent. TAJINE couscous | chickpea | tomatoes jus | almond | apricot confit | Calabrian chili + extra order of Lamb meatballs STEAK FRITES bone marrow sherry butter | Brandy onions | peppercorn sauce | 9oz With Truffle fries

I’ve been to Cafe Sauvage multiple times and I loved it every time! I enjoy the quality and creativity of the food: the crispy zucchinis, the avocado toast or the tuna tartare, the burger, it’s hard to choose! But I also go there because the service, the atmosphere and the place/decoration are perfect.

We really loved the food, the service and the atmosphere at Cafe Sauvage. The menu is comprehensive with very original dishes that are also to share. For appetizers, we enjoyed a tasty tuna tartare and the crispy zucchinis (a must have). For entree, our favorite was the couscous tajine with very good lamb meatballs. We could not resist ordering a side of plantains and I am glad we did, this was also excellent. The staff was friendly and gave us some good advice about the dishes. We did not try the wine but there is a great selection of cocktails, I definitely recommend the hibiscus margarita. We will definitely will be back for more.

We looked around the Back Bay area for a unique, slightly upscale and elegant place for dinner, but something that wasn't stuffy. We thought this would be a great place, but our meals were really disappointing. Service wasn't always on point, either. If I have to ask over and over for something, it's a clear sign that either the staff isn't being hired or trained properly, or there is confusion and chaos elsewhere. Drinks were slow to get to the table, but they did arrive. My friend who is an avid martini drinker, said he was certain that they didn't use the higher end brand of vodka he asked for and the drink was weak. My glass of Pinot Noir was fine, but nothing where I'd order a second glass. Ordered our appetizer course and decided to share the charcuterie board and it was just okay and seemed skimpy. We hoped for better with the entrées. I ordered the shrimp pasta and my friend ordered the steak frites. Both of these were highly disappointing. My pasta was overcooked to the point of being mushy and the steak was under cooked in some parts of the meat cut, and over cooked in others. It lacked flavor and looked terrible when presented on the plate. The name of the entrée was also deceiving, because steak frites means literally that you'd get steak with a side of fries. We were charged an extra $7 and our server said "well, you wanted fries so it's extra." (Apparently their version of steak frites means fried onions, not french fries.) Since $7 isn't going to break our budget, we just let it slide, but did send the steak back. We were then told that they wouldn't "remake" the steak because it would probably come out the same way (are you kidding? your chef cannot cook a steak?!) We just ordered a goat cheese salad and the two of us split this and my pasta entrée. Our server brought us out another glass of wine and martini, when we didn't order them, and we basically said unless they were on the house, we didn't order it and were not taking it otherwise. Overall, there are far better places in Boston to eat at and we chose unwisely on this one. We were asked if we wanted dessert, we just advised we wanted our check and to leave as soon as we could. First and last time at this place to be sure. ***The next night in Boston, we went to Davio's and it was amazing. They know how to cook pasta and a steak. So, our reboot went much better!***

We were a sizable group for dinner, so I could try some of the dishes. Overall rather poor quality, the place needs to consider very seriously how to improve. Of the starters I tasted the tuna tartar, and it was too sour. The lamb meat balls were OK, quite tasty. The main problem were the main dishes. I ordered steak with fries, and asked it to be very rare. I received a well done steak and had to return it to the kitchen. Then came the rare steak but it was still cold....My friend ordered a chicken, and he said that it was very dead, overcooked. My recommendation: if they do not improve quickly, take your business somewhere else.
