We stayed in this hotel for just one night on out way to a ferry terminal in Ilmuiden. It’s a 250 year old manor with some modern extensions turned into a hotel by a young entrepreneurial couple. It’s a part of a Twickel estate. You can have lunch in a castle or visit a modern art museum nearby for which we never had time regrettably. Even though the hotel is situated close to a motorway and threes had no leaves at the time it was surprisingly quiet with little traffic noise. Decor is rather modern and nice, the staff polite and speak good English. Our room was also nice except on this January cold day the radiators were only lukewarm after we turned them on. We should have asked for a heater, we were advised later, when we complained. But we slept very well. The room we had had a nice balcony, useless in winter, overlooking a meadow and some woods in the distance. Very nice. I can imagine an unforgettable Spring, Summer evening there in the setting sun. Car park is quite ample. What sets this hotel really apart is the restaurant. It is mentioned in Michelin’s. We had dinner there. Honestly, I cannot remember the last time we had such a feast. Presentation was truly impressive even if the portions were not particularly large. The bouquet of flavors and aromas was incredibly rich and full. It literally took my breath away. The chef must be a veritable magician. We had some complementary miniscule starters while we waited for the dish we ordered, which was fish. As far as I remember we wanted pike but it was not awailable and we got some sea bass instead, with apologies. Truly delicious! Then we had quince for desert, which in fact was a quince desert. See the photos. Breakfast was only a self service buffet but everything was exquisite including fizzy white wine Prosecco style, except for scrambled eggs, which were ordinary at best. For dinner, rather than a la carte, you could also order a 4-, 6- or 8-course gourmet menu with chef’s specials for €60, 80, 100 (€116, 159, 188 all-in menu with wine) per person. The house wine we ordered was also very decent. I think nex time we travel along this route we will definitely stay there again and-having starved beforehand - will splash out on one of those gourmet menus.
