Excellent location, good access, and parking. The food was fine. I found the food to be very “lightly spiced,” a bit on the sweeter side, but the website warns us of that. I did feel all the dishes were just warm and could have been hotter. The appetizer choices were the same run-of-the-mill. In the mains, Fish Moillee was gently spiced and flavorful. I would have liked it spicier. It was served with Appam - a crepe of rice and lentil flour, crisp at the edges and soft at the center, like an inverted cloud and thin as a whisper. The appam that was served was not what I was expecting. It was more like a plain soft Uttapam. The pièce de resistance was the Jalebi with Rabri. Mayur said it was going to be the smallest Jalebi we ever saw. He was pulling our leg. This was a large, thin, and crispy Jalebi served on top of a bowl of fluffy, whipped Rabri, which should have been cold. We had a difficult guest with us who refused to be pleased with anything. Hats off to Mayur the Maître d’, who displayed incredible patience with him, and thanks also to the staff who pampered him smilingly. All of us heaved a sigh of relief when our friend finally settled upon grilled chicken with vegetables with a thousand instructions to the chef on how to prepare it. I found the website somewhat confusing. On the one hand, it says that the restaurant celebrates modern Indian cuisine and, in the same para, hopes to take us back to the “days of yore.” Then again, the website claims to have “state-of-the-art food theatrics.” The truth of the matter is that these theatrics are now commonplace. A sense of “deja vue” settled upon me as the dishes kept appearing. I have had most dishes at their sister restaurant Trèsinde. Not only that, every contemporary Indian restaurant has more or less the same menu and the same presentation. There is not much originality and not much “pushing boundaries.” The menu, plating and display style should be revamped. “The welcoming interiors of the restaurant are finished in colorful hues and are perfectly complemented with the brushed cream and black wooden floors and ceiling." This is how the website describes the restaurant. Undoubtedly the leather chairs and tables were most comfortable. But the interior was not welcoming at night. The black-painted ceiling was most depressing, and the very dim lights did not make it a happy and light-hearted atmosphere. It was rather dark and gloomy. This was not a happy or fun place. Maybe it is at lunchtime but definitely not at dinnertime. Each time we had to check out the menu, we had to put on our flashlights. This was most annoying. What is the point of a fancy and expensive restaurant when one cannot even read the menu without a phone light and cannot appreciate the beautiful plating and the lovely colors? I wish I could write that we had a wonderful experience, but the exuberance and exhilaration that good food and a beautiful restaurant give just did not happen.
