Good paella but sparse ingredients
My wife and I came here attracted by the reputation of the paellas. Good appetizers and correct service in a nice environment. We ordered a paella de rojos (prawns). The rice tasted good but the ingredients were scarce; 2 prawns (1 per guest) and few ingredients other than rice, make the value for money poor.

A big recommendation and a really poor experience. If you like grilled Octopus and potatoes served the cold side of tepid be my guest. The Paella we ordered - the wrong one delivered after the statuary 45 min. wait for the ‘freshly cooked’ Michelin dish. The correct one was served 5 mins later. The rice had a dry crust on the top from presumably being kept warm under some heating system. To be fair the two Cardinal Prawns were good, as were the 2 very small pieces of monkfish deftly placed on top of the baked, dry rice. The best part of our meal was the cold craft brew and the vain attempts of our waiter to cover for the kitchen. We didn’t stay for a third course and were not offered any apology. At €96.00 not worth the money nor the time.

Have to say: the paella was good. My daughter could not eat it doe health reasons. So, we asked doe a tomatosalad. The head waiter was obviously very annoyed. We got 1 sliced tomato and they made us pay 16 euros for it. You ask for a drink you get half a litre and can pay for it. Money machine. Expensive. We paid 155 for three portion paellas, fried calamares and the GOLDEN TOMATO. Que aproveche!

Not often you find perfection especially in these difficult times. This restaurant is outstanding at what it does. Paella is the main event here and they only open at lunchtime and afternoon. Can be tricky to get in. You have to pre-order some paellas but we went for the large red prawn and monkfish cheek version which you can order on the day. I’m not sure how this can be beaten? On top of that the Jamon and anchovies we had to start were excellent too. We sat in the front of the building which we prefer to the courtyard area at the back. Real old school feel with classic local tiling. Lovely busy atmosphere. Waiters were excellent. Wine sensibly priced. Superb value for money. If I was only in Valencia for one day I would try and eat here. Outstanding.

We loved our experience at Casa Carmela: waiters were friendly and the paella we ordered was an authentic traditional taste of Spain!!! We definitely recommend it.
