Casa de Reyes San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
The enchiladas were really nasty same goes for the tamales
The enchiladas were really nasty same goes for the tamales I can't explain the taste but it was a 2/10 . The tacos were amazing though, I got two carnita tacos are they were delicious! And the service was great. Our server was really funny too. Overall the food was okay and I loved the place
Best food
Great food Great margaritas Great staff Great location Go, you won’t regret it…..unless you have too many margaritas!
An OLD TOWN STAPLE! What's impressive about this restaurant
An OLD TOWN STAPLE! What's impressive about this restaurant is that locals still love it even though a lot of tourists visit. The food is always tasty and never below a 4-star quality. We had to wait in a queue before being seated and they called us quickly! The staff were very friendly and tried their best to check on us despite the loads of patrons. The restaurant is very lively as it's in the heart of the Fiesta de Reyes shopping center. I was able to hear the live music from the neighboring stage which is also at the center of Fiesta de Reyes. I saw ALOT of Padres fans come over here after the game and it made me sooo happy as I had just come from the game too! This is a perfect place for big groups and celebrations! I had the combo plate which included two chicken enchiladas and a tamal. Everything was great for the exception of the corn in the enchiladas. They were a bit unnecessary and tasted canned. Overall, this is a great place and they hardly miss the mark. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the area! Note: There's a 4% hospitality surcharge for all guest checks.
Today i tried Casa de Reyes as i was strolling Old Town.
Food and service was great i appreciated my server today. I tried the combination Los Reyes plate which had me pick from 2 items. I chose the carne asada and carnitas taco which were up to par taste wise from a local SD native. One star is lost because the hostess would need to ask on a nice sunny day if their customers would like shade or no shade. I was not given that option
Authentic Mexican food.
Don't come here thinking el Torito. Their recipes are traditional. The tortillas fresh to order both corn and flour. The salsa is great too! Must go in the old town courtyard near the cosmopolitan hotel.
Nice Ambiance, very typical outdoor Mexican style
Nice Ambiance, very typical outdoor Mexican style restaurant, pleasant servers and staff, and very good food. I thought the food was good, not excellent, but my wife said it was the best Mexican she had eaten so far in San Diego, and she wants to go back soon. I suspect she would have given five stars but I think four is fair. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food over the years, both here and in Mexico (shout out to Wizzies in Cabo San Lucas), and I found it to be good overall. I would come her again.
After 10 years eating at Mexican restaurants near my home
After 10 years eating at Mexican restaurants near my home in Old Town. I took my family here for a change. My Cadillac margarita was perfect and all 8 of us loved our dishes. The guacamole was delicious and the chips and salsa were so good that we asked for more. The place was festive and Servers were friendly and dressed in bright colors smiling and checking on us frequently. A lot has been said about the low tourist trap quality of the food in Old Town Mexican restaurants these days... and a lot of it is true, but we found a new favorite place!
This place is great for lunch , we went this Saturday had
This place is great for lunch , we went this Saturday had the pleasure to have Monica attend us best waitress the service was on point!! We order the Mar y Tierra drinks, she new the menu our meeting went well with her over all service and help . Most definitely will return for another lunch meeting . Thanks Monica keep it your amazing person .
Great food great atmosphere a very dry waitress.
It wasn't busy but we had to wait in between everything for her service. No personality. Like she was bothered by our presence. I would definitely go back here just hoping to get a different server.
Memorial Day Dinner !
We had an amazing dinner during our holiday weekend in San Diego. We love coming to this place as we enjoy Old Town, then get a fiesta at this stunning Mexican Retaurant. We love the live music, dance floor, and loads of ancillary shops nearby. The drinks are refreshing, the meals are plentiful, the salsa and chips are a good start, and the servers are top notch. This is a must see and do if you are in the area.
I like coming here whenever I'm in Old Town.
The drinks are strong and tasty, and the food is delicious and fresh.
I recently visited casa de Reyes and was surprised to be
I recently visited casa de Reyes and was surprised to be charged $4 for hot water. This charge was not disclosed to us beforehand. It's the first time I've encountered a restaurant that charges for hot water without prior notice. It would be appreciated if such fees were communicated clearly to customers in advance.
Not a good Mexican restaurant
Server was awesome but that is where the good stops. We had a family of 9 who have eaten there for years. The quesadilla cheese was not melted, cheese enchiladas had no taste, tamale masa was hard and not edible. The margaritas were good but Large and Medium were the same size but $2 more for large. The chips were not tasty and were stale. I honestly don’t think we will go back there again. There are many more great Mexican restaurants in old town and San Diego.
Favourite dining - Mexican food
Another of my favourite places to visit. The dining is all outdoors but they have umbrellas to shield from the sun and propane heaters to maintain the warmth. The service is friendly and efficient and the food is super delicious! We both ordered a combo plate. Loved it.
Watch What You Are Paying For!!!
This is a nice location in Old Town San Diego and looks authentic--staff was very nice and efficient. My review comes down to a "bait and switch" tactic that I thought was underhanded. They advertise their house margarita in regular size, large size, and souvenir glass. I ordered a large and my partner ordered the regular. His came in a hurricane style glass, mine in a regular sized water glass. Both tasted terrible (and I know and enjoy my margaritas!) But I sipped on mine finishing it. My partner hated his and poured it into my glass. Can you believe that the same amount in his regular size margarita filled my "large" size water glass? The glass content was the same size but I paid $2 more for my large size. What a rip! And they tasted bad also. We also got assessed a service fee on top of the regular bill to "help out with these troubled times". PLEASSE! Covid is over and businesses need to build their costs into their pricing. Yes--this is printed on the menu--but buyer beware! This is ridiculous! We won't be back! And I'm a native Californian!
DELICIOUS
The tilapia and shrimp combo was soooo good! Best food I ate in California. Chips and salsa served before your meal. Waitress really nice.
Bland, bland, bland
I'm writing this review only 3 hours after eating at this restaurant. I've lived in San Diego my whole life. I decided to treat my daughter to some Mexican food and I chose this place, because years ago, there were several really good restaurants here. Our Server was EXCELLENT. I wish i had gotten his name. But the food was not good. Very BLAND and greasy. The chips were so oily, we didn't eat any after the first one. The salsa tasted just like a bowl of tomato. No flavor, no spice, no heat. My Chicken Tortilla soup was awful. It was greasy, with no flavor after the first bite. If it had cilantro in it, I could see or taste it. I counted 3 little tortilla strips floating on top of the soup. Very little cheese. My daughter had the Chile Relleno with beans and rice. Forget the rice. Neither of us ate it. No flavor, dry and tasteless. She said the Chile Relleno was okay. But it was hard to cut, since the Chile was tough on the bottom side. We suspect it was made ahead and frozen. It just wasn't fresh tasting. My daughter should know, since she has made them herself. The beans were the best. Too bad I didn't just order beans and a flour tortilla. Anyway, I am sorry to be so hard on this place. But it was a waste of $42.00, in my opinion. The $8.00 tip was deserved by the server. He was friendly, and he wasn't responsible for the substandard food.
Old Town Mexican experience
Service, atmosphere and food were excellent. A little like going to Mexico without travelling. Really enjoyed the evening
Year After Year
We have been coming here for 40+ years and it never disappoints. We moved out of state many years ago and every time we come back on vacation this is always a “must stop.” Our grand children now love it also. It’s a destination restaurant for us. Thanks for keeping the fun and food the best!
Still charging 4% Covid Surcharge….C’mon man!
Premium prices for mediocre food and drink. Also charging a 4% surcharge on guest check. Our waitress explained that it is a “Covid Surcharge” from back in the time when capacity was limited. What?? It’s basically all tourists, so I assume the owner doesn’t expect return business anyway. Sad gouging.
Glad we didn’t dine here; best part was that our server did not pressure us to order and allowed us to linger
The menu did not look particularly enticing and entrees seemed pricey. We settled on a pitcher of beer that we shared and just ate the chips and salsa provided . Even so, with tip we paid $25.03.
Great Mexican experience!
The fiesta like atmosphere is what made this place great, from the live music to the servers in traditional Mexican outfits and everything in between. The food and drinks were pretty good as well - not amazing , but the vibe made up for it. The portions were huge , and the prices were decent although I don’t like when restaurants nickel and dime you with extra service charges. Overall it was ok - the kind of place you have to try once but once only.
Mexican atmosphere
An atmosphere and a restaurant as if we were in Mexico! For the meal we took "COMBINATIONS DE REYES" with 3 meats, pork tacos, crispy beef tacos and chicken enchiladas, with a draft beer for 2 because we weren't very hungry and that was enough for us. It was good, not excellent but good. We went to this restaurant for the ambiance and atmosphere. The servers are top notch. If you pass by, come and try it for the place and the atmosphere.
Cool atmosphere, too expensive for what you get
Casa de Reyes is located within Fiesta de Reyes in Old Town San Diego. When we went there was a lively energy and it was busy but we were able to get a seat right away. The restaurant offers some complimentary chips and salsa upon being seated. The service was prompt and friendly but the drinks and food were much too expensive for what you receive. The large margarita is pictured with my review and cost almost $18. That size margarita for $18 is not a good value and neither of us could really taste the tequila. The food was not bad tasting but, again, expensive for what you get. I give them three stars only for the service we received as well as the lively energy on the night we visited. Please note that this is an outdoor restaurant so on the odd occasions when San Diego receives inclement weather this wouldn’t be a good place to visit.
Good meal and service
Nice lunch outdoors in sunny Old Town San Diego. House margarita and shredded beef enchiladas were delicious. Only complaints are the hostesses were both very rude and the tables were sticky/dirty. The service was very good. Be prepared to overspend, you're paying for convenience and location here.
