Service was okay; however for the pricing, I expected better. Food was decent, but I've had better. Again, food quality didn't match price. Ambiance was cramped and simple drinks were the price of a meal. Not sure I would return to Catch Steak .

Passable as a new-age steakhouse especially before a big night out. The most direct comparison steakhouse I can think of is Swift & Sons in Chicago. Big open dining area, buzzy space, ambitious splurgy menu. Crappy experience if seated next to people who really came to party. Even the fonts and themes on their online menus are similar. Unfortunately, Catch Steak loses in comparison to S&S on every point. This is not to say that this is a bad restaurant but it's certainly not "where the locals go" or "the epitome of fine dining" as other reviews have stated. The large format steaks, upon first glance, are NYC-price-adjusted versions of what I've enjoyed at S&S. Fine! Upon eating the tomahawk, however, I was disappointed to find that 35-day dry-aged beef was paired with Montreal Steak Seasoning. It wasn't bad, but it overpowered the natural flavors and the kiss of the flame. Additionally, no complimentary sauces with a $225 steak is absurd. At Swift & Sons you get a whole boat of them when you splurge. There's no bread here, which I guess is fine since my buddy was embracing the "keto" diet. I attempted to backfill with one of the premium sushi rolls. Getting 5 chintzy pieces of a roll for what I paid was met with an eye-roll. The langoustines are a true delicacy. To pay like $30 and to receive two of them was a shock but, again, true delicacy, impossible to find. What are some other points of comparison? The decorations in the main dining room, from the booths to the tables to the ceilings and lighting, are noticeably cheaper at Catch than they are at S&S or other vaunted Chicago spots like RPM Steak and Bavette's. The ambiance is not quite there. The service was very good but the reception is a subtly--subtly-more like thisisamoneygrabandthanksforyourmoney than it is a buttoned-up sophisticated new-age steak house. Finally, this is probably the last time I pay $15 for a dish called "simple mashed potatoes."

We were there at 5:40, and at 6 we got our table. We ordered steaks and waited for 25 minutes. Others ordered later and got food earlier. The restaurant does not serve bread+butter or anything while you wait. The steaks and sides were extremely salty. No table cloth. Cocktails are nothing special. Kobe A5 beef is $65 per oz + tax + tip. Wagyu filet 8oz is $98+tt. A great large space but other than that rhe ambience was just average. Overpriced. Servers are helpful and professional.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the food and the ambience.
Decor is absolutely beautiful. Service was excellent as well.

Food was great, drinks were on point, service was amazing (special thanks to our server, George, who was kind and very attentive despite being completely swamped with a ten top), but I was definitely disappointed with the hosts. They weren't particularly welcoming and I found it odd that every POC was seated upstairs, which is kind of dingy, low ceilings, etc. Somebody tell Catch segregation is out. Won't be back

Best mashed potatoes I ever had!! Light, creamy and melts in your mouth. Steak (ribeye) was also awesome and cooked to a perfect medium rare & well seasoned . The truffle fries were also fantastic and even better with ketchup and aioli sauce. Servers were attentive and constantly checked in on me and my fiancé. Wasn't a big fan of the drink selections but 5 stars for the food alone.

This place had the best dry aged steak that I have ever (at this point in time) consumed. I would definitely recommend a good steak and old fashioned. You won't be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyWe came for restaurant week, party of 4 on a Sun night.
Superb service, one of the best we've had. Really great good, everything was so delicious and cooked to perfection. The apps were pretty good, spicy gigli was salty though. Steaks were tender and the sides were so good. The waffle fries? Def recommend. We ordered dessert off their reg menu, for the price point of $25, the bananas foster baked alaska was smalllll. Really beautiful dining area and cool bar area. Will be back to try their reg menu.

When I try places these days and consider how good or bad it is I simply ask myself "who you buy it again?". For this spot it would be a no for me. I've had better steak at Ruth's Chris for sure. Food takes an unreasonably long time to come out. Ribeye was ok, however the steak and/or plate wasn't even hot enough to melt the cold truffle butter they just dropped on top. Not pictured I had an order of their mashed potatoes(if I had a blindfold I would have guessed someone tried to prank me with tv dinner mash). Potatoes needed to be thicker with a dash more of salt. The Caesar salad was enough to share w/ my part of 4, which may have gotten the most comments. The ambiance was cool. I just have problems with overpriced menus w/ food that's only ok.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is absolutely the worst.
We were a party of ten and from start to finish it's awful. We waited two hours for our food. We sent back plates because there was dried food on them and they were not clean. The GM has no idea how to run the place. They are auctioning food at the table, the staff is not trained on how to serve, they are not friendly and the restaurant continues to go down hill. 10 people $2500 and it was basically eating at Texas Roadhouse without anyone checking back to see how things were.
Be the first to ReplySat at the bar to enjoy some apps and cocktails.
Bartenders weren't attentive but that wasn't even the worst part.Later on in the night, the Asian GIRL bartender proceeded to discuss with me and another guest how SHE believed children at the age of 6 should be exposed to gender identity along with other political issues. 6 years old.Shocked, I proceeded to ask if she had any kids of her own and of course, she did not. To make it even worse, the other MALE bartender on duty joined in on the conversation agreeing with her. This was super unprofessional and never thought I would have this experience in a place known for the hospitality.
Be the first to ReplyService does not match the price point.
..I went for dinner and the experience started off fine. Drinks at the bar were good and the waitress was able to provide helpful guidance on some of her favorites across the menu. My friend ordered the "best filet in America" and a lobster tail, when it arrived it was clearly severely over cooked. We let the waitress know, she agreed, and then brought the manager over. The manager never once disagreed that the steak was over cooked, but was incredibly condescending and rude. She assumed we wanted to eat the overcooked steak but have it taken off the bill; we assured her we were happy to pay for it, but wanted it remade properly. She made no apologies for the kitchen, offered nothing to make up for trouble, and left the table as if we were causing an issue. 25 minutes later after still not receiving a new steak we checked in with the waitress to ask what was going on and if there was something more that could be done to make things right because our meal was severely impacted. She sent the manager back over - the manager continued to be rude and condescending- letting us know that the steak needed to be cooked from raw (uh, duh) and that takes time and that we could have had the over cooked steak and have eaten already. Given her rudeness, lack of resolution skills, and clear lack of understanding of customer service, we declined the upcoming steak and asked for the bill. I know mistakes happen, but it's how you respond to those mistakes and show customers that you care about their experience and business that matters - in this case, i would have been disappointed to receive this service level at Red Lobster, let alone at Catch Steak for a $140 steak and lobster. My advice: skip it all together and go somewhere else.

A lot of surprises... in a bad way. I had a reservation for a party of 10, and a separate for 3 people for 8 PM. We came in at 7:55 and asked to combine our tables we were told wait time would be too long. We were waiting until our full party arrived which was about 8:20, we decided that we would like to be seated at our table of 10 and 3 separately and we were told there is a wait time similar to the table of 13. This does not make sense, we have a reservation for 8 and table is not ready at 8:20 and was gonna be a minimum wait of 30 minutes, which would equal it to 8:50. 50 minute wait for a reservation made a couple of days ago? I assumed this was a high end establishment... but we got seated at 9:15. The waitress came 5 minutes later and right as I began ordering and pointing at the menu she said "one moment please I will be back" She was back 10 minutes later after we asked for her. On top of waiting over an hour to be seated I had to wait for my waitress with a party of 13 on my own birthday. Service was horrific. Our party had to move empty plates around instead of the waiters and waitresses. When it came to the food, we had 3 Porterhouses ordered *Medium Well*, which you would expect to be on the Pink/Cooked scale, not fully cooked well done and grey. Dry... personally I cannot eat dry meat and did not eat any steak. I left hungry on my own birthday. The manager came and offered free dessert. We ate for the same amount of time we waited for. Absolute disrespect. This was the worst steakhouse I have been to, and I have been to many.

We came here for Valentines Day dinner for their prefix menu. Parking was a little difficult to find but they do have a valet option in front of the restaurant. We didn't want to spend $50 so we didn't go for that option. The restaurant is very cute and instagram-able. Many photo op areas. We were seated quickly and our server was very kind. She gave excellent menu and drink recommendations. The prefix includes many of the staples like their truffle butter filet. The truffle gnocchi was delicious, very al dente tho. The steak was good and enjoyable for a valentine day dinner, it's just not the best I've had in the city. Overall it was a nice experience, good food, but not something I crave going back to again.

They sat us outside and the ambience doesn't match what a steak house should be.The shrimp cocktail was good but at $9 a shrimp it's definitely overpriced. The 40oz tomahawk was ok, but really not that special. The au poivre steak sauce was too watery and not that great. Blue cheese creamed spinach was about 4 tablespoons worth. The main reason for the 2 stars is that service was slow and inattentive. Had to check on wine and beer orders multiple times.
Be the first to ReplyI really want to give it a 5 for the food.
But the atmosphere was just not it. It was WAY too loud. I couldn't even hear my boyfriend from across the table. The waiter was snarky when I asked him if it is always loud there. He said "yes and it'll probably get louder" with a laugh. And I'm not talking about normal restaurant noise, I'm saying it was night club loud... If you're looking for a romantic dinner, go somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is worth every single penny.
Is it pricey? Absolutely, but it's delicious. We ordered the seafood tower and at $150 four people were able to eat with it as an appetizer, it was delicious, the oysters, the lobster, the shrimp, highly recommend it. Then we had the burrata, that was amazing as well, and we had the sizzling shrimp (this is the only appetizer I didn't care for, it was chewy and had a weird taste). As for the meal, everyone enjoyed their steak and I ordered the branzino with a side of baked potato. The baked potato was AMAZING and the branzino was perfectly cooked with crispy skin on top of eggplant and spinach- you honestly don't even need a side bc there's so much eggplant and spinach but I'm glad I got the potato as it was delicious. The sommelier has some good wine recommendations and their drinks are also well balanced and delicious. I truly enjoyed our dinner from start to finish!

Recently went back to Catch and was reminded how it's a bit awful to get to your seat. Likely because they are very very busy - so you always end up waiting 15-25 mins to get your seat. Regardless, the food really is so delicious. Still one of my favorite places to eat for that reason.
Be the first to ReplyI never write reviews, but I am so disappointed in Catch
I never write reviews, but I am so disappointed in Catch Steak that I feel inclined to let others know what to really expect. I came to Catch Steak to celebrate my birthday and was expecting good music, great steak, and a nice ambiance per the videos I saw on social media. However, my experience was far from that.To start, it took 30 minutes to be seated and once we were, it was in an area upstairs that lacked the rest of the restaurants decor. It took 35 minutes to get our drinks and then another 1.5 hours to get our food. They insisted that we order appetizers to pass the time while waiting, but the options weren't very appealing. Regarding the entrees, the steak was decent, but the sides (mashed potatoes and creamed spinach) were just ok.For dessert, the menu was very limited and the options seen on yelp/social media were unavailable, so there wasn't much to choose from in order to celebrate my birthday. As I was leaving, I tried to take a picture on the stairs and was yelled at by the staff that photos were 'not allowed' in the restaurant. All in all, I would not recommend this restaurant for a large party or celebration. Extremely long wait times and poor customer service. Would not return.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for a casual mid week dinner.
Made reservations and showed up in time for them to only be greeted by girls at the front who could use some education on customer service. They asked us to wait and after nearly 45 minutes past our reservation time got me a manager. Joe was great. Got us a table immediately and apologized for the in oven once. The server was terrific and attentive. Food came out fast and quality was good. Steak was cooked correctly and sides did not disappoint. Hopefully the work on their front end of the restaurant and then I would be back as food was on par.
Be the first to ReplyIf you have plans on dining here DON'T.
....i visited the establishment on 2/18 for my birthday to have a dinner with 10 friends immediately when i walked in i was told to take my $500 Versace shades off. I felt harassed by The security guards they were very rude & were not allowing my party to take pictures inside the restaurant, one of my friends in my party of 10 was denied at the door because of her outfit but i noticed some of the women inside the restaurant had on similar outfits , i feel this place is very racist & they pick & choose who they want in. The food took almost 40 mins to come out after we were seated & my steak was still not "well done" as i requested it. For the amount of money i spent on the food the customer service should have been better. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE!
Be the first to ReplyI made the mistake of bringing my gf here 2/18 to celebrate
I made the mistake of bringing my gf here 2/18 to celebrate her birthday. Something I'll never forget. It all started with the security guard or man who regulates the waiting area. Not sure if he has a title. I was taking a picture of my friend on the stairs for her birthday. I had absolutely NO idea that pictures were apparently not allowed. I've never met a camera parole police that was as obnoxious as the person at Catch Steak, wow! He talks with his hands and was very loud. I don't like embarrassment. So I told him it's ok he doesn't have to over explain hisself and please don't come to close to us because it's embarrassing all the attention he was putting on us. We went outside to take pics and this photo parole police surpassed everyone who was taking pics and comes directly to me and my friend and begins his rant. He even said he had wait outside but followed us back inside. Not sure what that was about. Unbeknownst to us we weren't allowed to take pics out there neither. We finally sat down (I requested a booth from the first time I walked in. I am 100% aware that there was a possibility that one wouldn't be available but we were told they'd try to get us one.) Apparently they were all unavailable, so we sat in a random area in the middle cold. Then the manager had the nerves to come up to me and lie in my face to tell me that people put in a reservation weeks in advance for the booth and continuously & shallowly apologize. Do I look like Ernie McSternie?! No one did that. I'd rather him just tell me "it's reserved; I'm Sorry" and go along with his day. Don't insult my intelligence. To add insult to injury. The manager watched someone take a picture inside the dining room. So I'm very confused. However our waiter also took pics of us. I've been to Catch several times and was never told this about picture thing. So it just became more and more confusing. A booth opened up and was left unoccupied. If the manager had any efficient managerial skills. He would've came back to us and told us that a booth was now available and asked if we would've liked to move. But it seems like he just started that day so I am uncertain if they gave him proper training. Incompetent. I used to LOVE this restaurant; was actually one of my favorites. It's so unfortunate that poor customer service can make so much of an impact on how you see things. This was a very poor experience. I will not be recommending Catch Steak to ANYONE I know and unfortunately I do not see myself returning. The food this time around wasn't good. The baked king crab roll was extremely salty (I felt so bad because I recommended this place and recommended the king crab to my gf) the steak surprisingly lacked flavor. Prior to the food coming out. I told them I know this has been a really poor experience but at least I know the food is great here! Well joke was on me! Bc that evening it was not! So disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyThe Truffle butter steak was really good.
Took a while for our food to come but we enjoyed it. My boyfriend got the rib eye and we ordered a side of asparagus and mashed potatoes. We got a few sidecars which were made perfect each time. The music and the vibe was good. Aside from the initial confusion with the other Catch restaurant and the lack of parking because of the location I enjoyed myself and would return.

This has officially become one of my favorite go to restaurants in the city. The menu has a wide range of food from fish to steak. Service is great and the lobster rolls and the blue king rolls are phenomenal. I love them! The Ricotta Tortellini is so delicious. I've had it on 2 occasions so far. It's tough to resist. The truffle butter filet is so tender and i look forward to trying another steak on my next visit. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

I travel a lot (meaning A LOT) and sometimes just like to enjoy a dinner alone. Many places, particularly higher end, treat the lone diner as an oddity to be mostly ignored. I had the exact opposite experience at Catch Steak. All the food was superb, ate too much, wines and cocktails (or at least one) were also top notch. But it was the service and attention, without being invasive, that made me feel it necessary to call this experience out from the hundreds I never write reviews on.
