Good food, excellent service.
I had a lovely, relaxed lunch with a friend and was filled and refreshed when done. Recommend highly.
Be the first to ReplyI don't really consider myself a connoisseur of Georgian
I don't really consider myself a connoisseur of Georgian food since it's not too common, but Chama Mama had dishes that reminded me a lot of Turkish, Italian, Nepalese, or Mediterranean foods. The star of the show was the cheese bread with egg; the cheese to bread ratio was kind of laughable since there was just so much cheese, but it was super good. While I definitely recommend checking out this place at least once, I personally wouldn't come back since nothing really wow'd me.

On a Saturday around brunch, I was surprised to see this restaurant as empty as it was, but was very excited to give it a try as it's been forever since I've had Georgian food. I loved the decor and overall vibe of this place - it feels warm and cozy, perfect for couples or groups of friends alike. For food, we ordered the adjaruli khachapuri and khinkali beef and pork, both which seemed highly recommended. When our waiter brought out our dishes, she offered to mix the egg into the bread's cheesy sauce, which we agreed to. The end product was divine - cheesy and gooey, paired perfectly with the sweet, soft bread. My only complaint is that I wish there was more of a 1:1 bread and cheese ratio.. there was a bit too much cheese for us. We also really enjoyed the dumplings, and I'd love to try their other flavors as they all sounded great. Overall, we enjoyed our quick dining experience here and loved its proximity to Central Park, the Museum of Natural History, and other spots in the city.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a very enjoyable meal here.
Lots of vegetarian options. The Georgian style of seasoning is unique and delicious - for example, I really enjoyed the fresh herbs in the mushroom appetizer. It was also my first time eating pickled jonjoli flower (part of the assorted pickle appetizer). And of course, they have an excellent wine list with several amber wines. Edit: I can't believe I forgot to recommend the honey cake! Paired really well with coffee.

Literally so good! The atmosphere was great and the server gave great recommendations. Genuinely upset I didn't try this place sooner because the food is that good. Looking forward to going back!

Chama Mama's UWS location was great! Just like their other locations, the food was fantastic. If you like cheese, bread, and/or eggs, you'll really enjoy Georgian cuisine. We had the holiday version of the khachapuri, very similar except the bread boat was closed at the top, so no tableside cheese mixing this time. The dumplings (khinkali) were good, and the kebab was well cooked, but maybe could have used a little more seasoning (though putting it in a wrap was a really nice touch). The honey cake dessert (pictured) was amazing - very decadent; sweet with a dense texture that made every bite chewy and rich. Defiantly recommend this dessert. Service was great, even during a Sunday evening dinner rush. Servers were very attentive and seemed excited to give menu recommendations. Chama Mama continues to bring great Georgian cuisine to all its locations!

Friendly staff, great drinks offerings from cocktails to wine. Their wine flights are a perfect introduction to Georgian wine if this is a first-time like it was for us. Would definitely come back
Be the first to ReplyOur absolute favorite restaurant in NYC! One wonders when
Our absolute favorite restaurant in NYC! One wonders when Divinity created earthly cuisines, did they play favorites for some regions? Like Georgia? Or endowed Chama Mama with magical powers to make their food (and service) so unforgettable? Reservation is a must, coz this place is busy all the time, and there is a choice of dining room or patio (outdoor-ish seating). We always order "Taste of Georgia" - it's vegetarian and full of flavors. Other must tries include Jonjoli Salad, Khinkali, Roasted Wild Mushrooms, Megruli (or any of their specialty bead), etc. For carnivores, the Mtsvadi is earth shattering; for herbivores, the Lobio (bean stew) comes with 5 vegetables fermented in different ways that will leave you wanting more. You must save stomach space for dessert - don't finish dinner without Korkoti! If you are interested, I'd recommend that you study the unique Georgian script on their walls and waiting staff's T-shirts. This beautiful language is unrelated to any other language families in the world - it's THAT unique, just like its food.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time having Georgian food and I'm a fan! The foods
First time having Georgian food and I'm a fan! The foods are rich in flavor and their breads are insanely good. I'm glad I saved my stomach for this meal! We started with the Taste of Georgia which was basically a sampler of their different spreads- all vegetarian. There was 5 different ones: spinach, kidney bean, beet, eggplant & one our waiter called "white vegetable". That was my favorite. We then had their famous khachapuri, which is cheesy bread goodness. The server mixed the blend of cheeses with a raw egg and the combination was heavenly. Adding it to warm bread was just perfection. I was full just eating that. But we had ordered the mix grill as well that had all their meats. Lamb chops, chicken (2 ways), and pork. All grilled to perfection. We ended with a slice of Honey Cake. It was ok- I wasn't a fan of the flavor but still good. I highly recommend going and I can't wait to go back myself.
Be the first to ReplyI guess this would go on as once try kind of a place.
The drinks were quite good and clean on the taste. We tried a bunch, their spicy margarita, the lychee margarita, the Mexico meets Georgia and the rum old fashioned. For food, we got a variety. Overall, the cheese was a bit overwhelming both on the quantities and the smell. The Georgian sampler platter was a quick sweep as we were hungry. It was bread with 5 dips. One of those was a la 'sangri' from Rajasthan on the texture. The eggplant and beet dips were the faves there. The crispy potatoes looked different, albeit yummy. Those boiled and fried and spiced kind. What's not to like? Their special bread with cheese was a bit much for us - 4 adults and 3 kids couldn't finish it. Ditto for their cheese dumplings. The mushroom dumplings were better but again, the taste was overwhelming. My take is stick to Asia for dumplings. These were very plump and doughy. The cauliflower was the cleanest and my favourite to eat here. Cooked well and that curry / gravy subtle enough, though I envisioned a thicker one. The lobia one I pictured as black eyed peas but these were your red kidney beans. It could pass as 'rajma' of some kinds. Rice, and an Indian would have definitely found it a meal. That cornbread with it was very dry and guess, an acquired taste? Presentation on this - top notch. It came with pickled vegetables, most of which we got with the pickled vegetable platter as well. A very friendly server; the place was packed at 6pm this Sunday and it wasn't just families with young kids, in fact, we were the only ones with kids there. The desserts didn't appeal as much to me, but the kids dig-ged it.

I found this pace because it was featured in a guide I was reading and decided to go today for brunch. The place is pretty, I like the mood it has, the tables are not too close to each other and they have a bunch of pictures and art pieces on the walls that are pretty interesting. We ordered a sweet wine that the waitress suggested (I love when I ask for suggestion and they actually know what they're talking about lol) and some random food from the menu because we really didn't know where to start but everything was delicious! The price was a bit high for some things but I understand that for the quality, the experience and the location is okay. What I really didn't appreciate is that from the moment you book on Resy they ask for your card and if you don't show up they'll charge 30$ per person. I get that you'd be reserving a table and possibly lose clients because of it but it really gave me anxiety for some reason lolOverall it was nice and I'd probably try it again because I haven't tried the dumplings yet!

Boy what delicious culinary fun dining here and my first experience eating Georgian cuisine. The waitstaff was very helpful guiding me and my companion ordering our meal - Gandzili Salad, Chiji-Piji with Mushrooms, Chicken Skewers , Imeruli Khachapuri - which we shared. And, they get an extra "star" to our experience with the pot of mint tea we had afterwards that was made with real fresh mint leaves.

We came here for brunch because I was absolutely mesmerized by this video of cheese being mixed in some bread. This place did not disappoint at all. We did get the dish, which is called Adjaruli Khachapuri. How can you go wrong with delicious cheese, butter and egg mixed in beautifully baked bread. You break off pieces of warm bread and dip it in the cheese to eat. Absolutely delicious! I highly recommend ordering this for the table. It might be a bit too decadent for one person to eat. We also got the chili-piji which is like shakshouka. A+We got the Imeruli Khachapuri which had a similar cheese blend to the Adjaruli A+Our friend enjoyed the omelet with kebab AWe ordered the mushroom dumplings as well which were probably our least favorite item even though they are beautifully made B+For sweet, we got the pancake with berries which was almost like bread filled with pastry cream. It reminded me a bit of pastis de nata. It wasn't too sweet and we really enjoyed it. AAll the food was served nice and warm, right out of the oven. I requested my latte to be very warm and it was perfect. The service was great, and the ambiance is cute.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious.
So glad we were able to be seated (right away) around 6 pm when we walked by. We got the beef soup karcho, lamb stuffed grape leaves, and christmas adjaruli. Everything was soooo soo good. The soup karcho was soul warming and full of flavor and texture. The grape leaves were devoured quickly. Of course the standout was the adjaruli which had the most amazing cheese pull. What's better than a three cheese mix and fresh bread? Nothing. nothing is better. this is as good as it gets.

I've never had Georgian food before but this place was really good. The flavoring and spices of everything worked so well and it was unlike anything I've ever had before. We ordered the chicken, the adjaruli, mushrooms and cucumber/ tomato salad. Plus a few wine flights. If you're looking for something new, don't sleep on this spot.

Food was good. Quiet to Fair noise inside the restaurant. Prices are average to above average for NYC. Unfortunately, the server forgot one of our orders and we had to remind the server towards the end of our main course. Tap To Pay available.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, awesome vibe and amazing food.
Will definitely be coming back.My favorites were the warm grape leaves stuffed with lamb, the fresh bread, and both the chicken kebabs and chicken skewers.

We wanted a Khachapuri and were thrilled to visit the Chama Mama on the UWS. The Khachapuri did not disappoint (although the flight of Georgian wines did). Our waiter mixed in butter at the table in addition to the egg and cheese.... and the result was decadent deliciousness. Wonderful addition to the neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant with delicious food and incredible
Amazing restaurant with delicious food and incredible service! I came here last night with two friends. My father grew up in Tbilisi and frequently cooked Georgian when I was growing up - this was a taste of nostalgia. Everything was flavorful and absolutely DELICIOUS, and the wine they have supplied specifically for the restaurant is incredible (ask about the Saperavi.)Our server, Guga (I'm sorry if I messed up your name!!) was attentive and friendly, and provided great recommendations on both food and wine pairings. I ordered a chicken kharcho to go and already regret eating it so soon, because there's no more left! Recommend to anyone, can't wait to introduce all my friends to this wonderful restaurant. Thank you!

Be the first to ReplyGeorgian is a cuisine that I am not very familiar with but
Georgian is a cuisine that I am not very familiar with but saw the menu and it had numerous vegetarian options so wanted to try. The decor is industrial and the service is super nice. We went for lunch and our server was very helpful. We got the Pkhali duo, mushroom khinkali and adjaruli khachapuri with cucumber tomato salad. The pkhali dho and the salad were a highlight for me. The eggplant pkhali was smoky and nutty and went great with the cornbread. The spinach one was more fresh and garlicky and perfect for something refreshing. The salad was excellent, i could have 5 bowls of that without batting an eyelid, fresh herby zesty and very flavorful and non greasy. The khachapuri was good in what is is suppose to be but it was way too much cheese for me. We split one and barely ate 1/3rd. I wish they had a smaller version with more bread and less cheese. The dumplings were not my favorite. My friend loved them but I didnot. They are soupy dumplings which was nice to find for vegetarians.I would say try the pkhali for sure and get the adjaruli with extra bread (one is enough for 3/4 people imo)

We just finished eating, it was expensive (charging 10$ for bread) and really tiny portions. The food lacked flavour and love. Service was slow and not welcoming. We love Georgian food, will continue looking
