Chama Mama in Chelsea offers a warm ambiance and authentic
Chama Mama in Chelsea offers a warm ambiance and authentic Georgian cuisine. From savory khachapuri to hearty chakhokhbili, each dish reflects Georgia's rich culinary heritage. With a diverse wine selection and delightful desserts like honey cake, Chama Mama promises a memorable dining experience that transports guests to the heart of Georgia. Great Service. Thank you!
Be the first to ReplyReally tasty! Went by myself on Sunday night and no wait.
Service was super fast and nice, and loved that there were several sections. Only complaint is I felt the food was a little salty - the Georgian cheese was really salty and wish I had some leafy greens to balance it out

Whisk me away to Georgia now! Like other reviewers, this was my first time having Georgian food and I absolutely loved it. The cheese, butter, and egg bread is a must! The combination of flavors was heaven in my mouth. They mix it at the table to gooey perfection. My party of two also ordered the trio of pork and beef dumplings (khinkali) which were juicy and fresh tasting. The cauliflower in a flavorful curry was another standout. Our server recommended ordering extra bread for the curry (which we did), but we felt it wasn't exactly needed and would skip next time. The olive oil dressing that came with the extra bread was chef's kiss. We had Georgian wine and the honey cake to cap off the night. The honey cake could have maybeee been a tad more moist but we enjoyed it! Despite having just a few dishes and sharing everything, we were stuffed! This place was decently packed on a Monday. Would definitely make a reservation. The service was excellent and efficient. The lighting was perfect. Wasn't too noisy in the front- perfect for a catch up or date night. Seemed a bit louder in the back. Fully recommend chama mama and looking forward to being back if I don't take the next flight to Georgia before then!

Delicious. If you don't know what to order, they really help you by giving recommendations. Underrated cuisine! and the ambiance is beautiful we ate on the patio with a heat lamp.

This was my first time trying Georgian food and it left a great first impression! The adjaruli khachapuri was by far the standout of the meal, but the imeruli was also very good. The Taste of Georgia sampler is definitely nice for getting a variety of flavors and the Georgian salad was deliciously light and fresh. The restaurant is deceptively large, with a back room that can fit larger groups. Would be a better ambiance if parents weren't allowed to let their kids run around in the space between tables but the restaurant itself is very nice.

This was my first time trying Georgian food (other than making kachipuri at home). This experience reminded me why I live eating in New York so much. I recommend getting the taste of georgia which is a variety of phkali which remind me of bengali bhartas. They are each a mixture of veggies with walnuts. My least favorite was the smoked cheese which I found to be strong. Also definitely get the honey cake!! The service staff was very attentive, checking in frequently and turning down the speakers that were too loud because we were right next to them. This restaurant is HUGE which was really unexpected for me. I definitely have a had my eyes opened to Georgian food and would bring others here!!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was larger than I expected.
Service was great- they gave really good suggestions and helped us order the perfect amount. Cheesey bread is a must try and I love that they helped mix up the cheese for us. Kebab with the touch of pomegranate was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyNever had Georgian food before and that's sad.
This was a whole new experience for my mouth. This cheese and egg thing in a bread bowl was fun and tasty. I would like to go back and try all the other dumplings. The ones we got was juicy and flavorful. I didn't care too much for the Grilled Grits. it looks better than they taste. It was pretty crowded on a Saturday night. Try to make a reservation if possible. They have a large heated back patio.

Chama Mama was my first venture into Georgian cuisine, so I can't comment on how authentic the food truly is, but it certainly seems very down to earth and rustic. Their signature dish Adjaruli Khachapuri is a delicious cross of Swiss cheese fondue and Carbonara served in a bread bowl with some low key spectacle at the table. Highly recommend to get one to share, it's a lot of cheese for one person. The Chicken Mtsvadi came with a very generous portion of succulent chicken served on a light & airy flatbread. The service was quick, attentive and very friendly, and I like the modern interior. There's a long communal table in front of the kitchen, with a big window to admire the traditional oven and busy kitchen staff.

Just came back again w some friends and it was even better this time around. Got some Khachapuris and the Chicken and Pork skewers. Lord. Have. Mercy. The Khachapuris were yummy as expected but the skewers were fantastic. They were juicy and perfectly seasoned and salted. The came with a tart plum sauce that perfectly balanced the fat of the meats. Soooo gooddd

I came here for a date on a Tuesday night, and only had to wait 30 min since we didn't make a reservation. Vibe was really cute for a date! We tried the soup dumplings (black pepper that was served with it was extremely fragrant), lamb stuffed grape leaves (perfect spice level and really juicy, my favorite out of everything I tried), traditional khachapuri (can't go wrong with bread butter and cheese, I loved it!), and the chicken kabob (a lot bigger portion that I expected). We didn't end up finishing everything and was stuffed by the end of the meal. I'd recommend getting 3 dishes for 2 unless you wanna try more things and take it to-go!

incredible staff and food! was such a great experience and some of the most interesting food in new york city
Be the first to ReplyKhachapuri was the star - cheesy, tasty, soft bread.
I could have just ordered that twice and called it a day. The other items we ordered - too salty, or not enough salt (we were told that the cauliflower was purposely bland to allow their patrons to season to taste - there have been plenty of top chef episodes that say this is a no-no but ok), and just "okay". The outdoor seating was nice (cold by the door so wear a jacket), the service was pleasant (helped me pronouncing some dish names), and a visit many years ago round this up to a 4.

This place popped up on my IG feed and that Adjaruli Khachapuri for sure lured me in. This might be the MUST GET item on the menu. The creamy, delicious, savory cheese blend (they mix it with the egg at the table in front of you) is expensive, but if you're a foodie, you won't mind paying the price for the result. You actually tear off the bread bowl the cheese is in and eat the entire dish. The Lamb-Stuffed Grape Leaves is also a great dish to try if you're REALLY looking for a taste of something different and cultural. I can honestly say it was unlike anything I'd ever tasted, and not in a bad way. I know another review mentioned the Khinkali Beef & Pork Dumplings were nothing to write home about but I'm glad I got them anyway because they were SCRUMPTIOUS. Perfect texture, VERY flavorful, with a kick of extra spice I was not expecting, but loved. Now I was excited about the Shkmeruli (oven roasted hen in garlic sauce) but honestly, that was somehow the LEAST flavorful thing on the menu. It tasted like regular chicken. I'm a garlic afficionado and I just did NOT taste a hint of garlic in that chicken whatsoever. So, I'd pass on that entree and try one of the other ones. I also had the Lavender Blossom cocktail, which was cool and enjoyable, but once again, I was really looking for a KICK of lavender and I didn't get that from this.Honorable mention goes to the Freshly Baked Bread that the waitress recommended. The bread itself is fine, but it's that sunflower oil and adiika mix that takes it over the top. It SEEMED like some sort of red pepper flakes mix, but it was SCRUMPTIOUS and I preferred it over the damn chicken and devoured the leftover bread the next day after reheating it in the oven. These guys also give some EXCELLENT service here. We went at 5:30 on a Saturday and they were super attentive, FRIENDLY as hell, personable. I will DEFINITELY come back here to try more stuff off the menu! So happy I got to learn about Georgian food, as this was a first!

Really great lamb, and the cheese boat (strictly what I came for) was also good, very very filling. Service was quick, fast, everyone was nice flans friendly. Only thing I would say is the music is a little loud but even so doesn't take away from the food or the Resturant.

This was my first time trying Georgian food and I can safely say it was not my last! I came here with two friends and we ate family style. The waiters and staff are extremely nice and helped us choose which food and drinks to get! (+1 for quick service)
Be the first to ReplyAwesome spot.
Easy to reserve last minute and probably walk in as well. Super unique food I hadn't tried before. Georgian cheese boat was awesome and suuuuper cheesy. The chicken skewers and soup dumplings sooo tasty. For entree got the shakshuka which honestly wasn't unique to Georgia. Overall cool find, delicious food, super unique spot!
Be the first to ReplyI took my wife to Chama Mama for lunch yesterday.
From start to finish we just had a perfect experience. Staff was extremely genuine and warm, atmosphere was great and the food was spectacular. All the guests seemed to be in a great mood and there was a warm and happy vibe. I would recommend this place to anyone and I can't wait to return.

The best authentic Kharcho soup in this side of the ocean (Amsterdam Ave, UWS) - as well as the other food! The chef is probably Georgian indeed.

Came here a couple years ago and honestly only thought it was ok. The dumplings were a bit heavy on dough and not enough filling and I didn't really remember the famous cheese bread other than it was presented very well.Fast forward 3 years later and I tried it again and this time I loved loved loved the adjaruli khachapuri - Georgian cheese bread made with feta, mozzarella, and smoked Georgian cheese. The bread that it came in was fluffy and the cheese was soft, melty and so delicious I wish I had ordered my own so I didn't have to share. Our waitress was such a sweetie she explained all about the boat and the egg being the sun and how the dish is good luck. That really added to the experience as well.I will definitely go back to eat this again! Also recommend getting the beef stew to soak up more of that delicious bread!!! The interior of this restaurant is gorgeous as well. Good for dates or for catching up with friends. The kitchen behind glass but open view for everyone to see their special ovens that make this delicious bread. So good!!

Oh. My. God. This is one of the best food experiences I've had in a long time. Definitely recommend going with adventurous eaters because you're going to want to try everything on this menu!We started off with the cheese bread - hands down one of the best things I've ever eaten. We then got the shakuscha, the Georgian pancake, the chicken skewers, and the taste of Georgia dessert platter. The tomato and egg bake was amazing. The bread was perfect. The chicken skewers were so flavorful without being overly spicy. I can't even tell you what the flavor was it was just amazing. The Georgian pancake was crispy on the bottom, had a delicious cheese filling, and a wonderful chocolate sauce. We all loved each dish. Mixed reviews on the dessert platter. The one on the left tasted like a cream puff or a Mille feuille and was pretty good. The plum flan-like dessert had a bit of a cough-syrupy flavor (plus I'm not the biggest flan fan so that's a personal thing.) The next dessert I affectionately termed "the grey stuff" like in Beauty and the Beast. Honestly flavor was ok but the texture was not for me. The honey cake was great! Tasted like gingerbread or a s'more. As far as decor goes it was pretty good, although if you're offended by a lot of boobs just be prepared - a lot of the artwork features that imagery. Will definitely be back here again!

Best adjaruli khachapouri in the city; everything else is alright, a bit too salty for my taste. The backyard is really nice, beautiful, with plentiful heat lamps in the winter.

I've never had Georgian food before so was super excited to try this place! We had a reservation for brunch on a Saturday. Restaurant was not super busy and the service was great. The Penovani Khachapuri is a puff pastry with cheese inside-- it tastes exactly like that description, nothing more or less. The chiji piji with mushrooms is pretty good, very standard for shakshuka. We also got the beef and pork kabob, which were also good but nothing special.

Hands down one of the best meals of March 2022! Great vibes, great service and amazing food. About half the menu is vegetarian and delicious. We pretty tried everything on it as family style. Portion size is slightly on smaller side. Dumplings and their breads are something to kill for. Our first time eating Georgian Food and it certainly won't be the last one!!
