Visited Chez Bruce as part of a no-corkage BYO wine deal from my wine merchant. Took the allowed bottle each - a white 2001 CdP, and a 1998 Saint-Julien - and settled in to the attractive, light and airy room for the £85 per head three course dinner. I opted for the starter of Lobster Raviolo in a lobster bisque, with brown shrimps, and samphire (£7.50 supplement), which was out of this world! A huge raviolo with a generous portion of beautifully cooked lobster, and a rich bisque. The slightly elderly CdP was a great accompaniment. My wife had gin-cured mackerel with smoked eel croquette, pickled rhubarb, horseradish and tarragon, which was also pronounced superb. For mains, we both had the Chateaubriand with hand cut chips, and bearnaise sauce (£10 supplement). So tender and delicious and the perfect accompanient to the Saint-Julien. Two clean plates were delivered back to the kitchen! We then opted to share a Grande Assiette de Fromage (£7.50 supplement) to accompany the last of the red wine, and the 10 cheese morsels were well chosen, and excellent. We shared a dessert of hazelnut financier with vanilla ice cream and poached pear, and it was sublime - accompanied with the last of the white CdP that had (probably over-) matured to resemble the slightly sweet elements of a dessert wine. Our dining experience was enhanced by the delightful Greta, who served us with a smile, and great personality. It was nice to hear about her culinary journey from Lake Garda to London. She is a real asset to the restaurant. We had a thoroughly lovely experience, and would not hesitate to recommend Chez Bruce. We had lunch at their sister restaurant, La Trompette in Chiswick, last summer, and both are restaurants are definitely worth seeking out.
