Chez Nguyen has brought me back to writing reviews.
Popped in here for lunch and was glad we did! I'm honestly picky and critical of Vietnamese food--especially growing up with my mom's excellent cooking. I really rarely fall in love with pho at restaurants, but man Chez Nguyen had me feeling alive again! The beef pho seemed simple with noodles, broth, meat, and spring onions. The broth was fine, and I like that they use the fatter fresh noodles, but what made it OUTSTANDING was the meat is smoked. Not your traditional beef cuts or preparation, but soooo freaking delicious. I wish there were more veggies and herbs to add, but I'd come back for that meat.We also tried the bo kho. I thought the broth was tasty, though I wish it were a little more concentrated. That being said, the beef was again the star. I also appreciate the use of real Vietnamese bread, thin and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. It's rare to find in SF.The service was friendly. I'd love to come back soon!

Came here because I heard it was the last day they were opened! Came for Bo ne but they were sold out at lunch. Pretty decent viet food with good portion size

This place has a small menu and it might look a bit pricey when you see the menu. But when the food is served, you realized that it's totally justified with the price. The portion is huge and the food was great. I ordered the Cast Iron Steak & Eggs, or so called Bo Ne, served with a crispy baguette. The steak was so tender and well marinated, comes with 2 sunny side eggs, pate, onion, bell pepper, tomatoes, Chinese sausage and Vietnamese ham. There was so much food and I have to take almost half home. It wasn't really that crowded when I came here for Thursday lunch, given that most people would be coming to the office on Thursday. You ordered and paid at the counter, have a seat and they'll serve your food based on the number on your table. Will definitely come back next time to try out the chicken rice.

Easy to miss -- it's in an old sushi boat restaurant space (and even has the old island). The bowls of soup are on the pricier side but the size is massive. Super rich flavors, a little bit smokey, and clearly made by someone who has mastered their craft. I'll be back for the steak and eggs with french bread.

Newish Vietnamese restaurant (at least to me) in the Financial District. The space they occupied used to be a Japanese restaurant. Recently tried their pho (northern style) and thought it was pretty good. Tasted fresh. Good to have this option in the neighborhood. Service was limited but nice. Not much ambiance.

First time having Northern-style pho that doesn't come with any sides like bean sprouts or rare steak. The broth is more flavorful and the steak was super yummy. Def can taste the difference between American or Southern style pho. You order first then get a number and sit. The place is small and the sign isn't easily noticeable. The price for a bowl is about $20 which is pricey but given the location, it makes sense. It's close to work and they are quick. The portions are huge too. They have a weird middle island and some small tables around it. Service was okay, but not very attentive. Left us alone as soon as our food was delivered. If it's gloomy and you want some soup, this is a great spot to check out.

Had the Beef pho today because I want to try the northern pho. It is bad!! The broth is very salty and it is not made from beef bone . The broth has nots of MSG.

The fresh shrimp roll is divine and comes with a small carrot salad as garnish. Chicken pho - huge serving but no bean sprouts and absolutely covered with green onions, odd.

Despite being empty staff took almost 10 minutes to take an order. Couldn't order a tea because it was national coffee day. A salad takes 20 minutes to complete and couldn't add grilled chicken because it would confuse the cook.

What a gem in fidi! Breaking away from the somewhat monotonous lunches, the food here is amazing. Can't go wrong with the pho but the beef stew is the star. Really friendly staff and an owner that deserves your business!
