This was my first Josรฉ Andrรฉs restaurant I went to, and I have to say it was a cool concept, although I didn't love all the dishes we had. The restaurant is very open and decorated well. We ordered: Shishito Peppers - 5/5. Seasoned so well and nicely grilled. Causa California - 3/5. Honestly tasted like nothing. Reminded me of baby food when it came to consistency. Papas a la Huancaรญna - 2/5. Not my favorite -- sauce was a little bland. Tam Tam - 5/5. My favorite dish. This was so good and the noodles were cooked perfectly!

The food was excellent, especially the classic ceviche! IMHO, most of the Jose Andres restaurants are just too precious and the waitstaff act like you should be grateful to be there -- but this place was different. The server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, and overall it seemed less chaotic. It's an attractive dining room with good natural light. Finding parking during the day is almost impossible unless you want to pay $25+ at a garage a few blocks away. The parking that the restaurant recommended was full -- the attendant said they're always full -- and forget about finding a meter on the street. Plan ahead.

We stopped in for a quick bite before an event and had a great experience. It was a busy Saturday night but we were able to snag seats at the ceviche bar. Atmosphere: busy, vibrant Service: very good and very attentive. We let her know is we were headed to another event and Sri Ms and food came out promptly. 10/10 Food: we split the Aeropuerto. It was a fried rice dish with tons of veggies, eggs and crispy potatoes on top. You don't even miss the meat with this dish. 10/10 I've been here once before for happy hour but will be back for lunch or dinner!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and food.
We loved every dish we tried - about half the menu. So much fun to try so many new flavor combinations.
Be the first to ReplyTwo of us enjoyed lunch at China Chilcano today.
It was pouring rain on a weekday, and this place looked warm and inviting. I had the set lunch for $28 which consisted of siu mai pollo, tallarin saltado de verduras (chow mein noodles), and suspiro limana (sweetened condensed milk custard topped with soft and crispy meringue and a passion fruit ice. My cousin ordered the shrimp donburi. The prices were extremely reasonable for the tastiness that was delivered to our table. The service was very good. Our waiter, Franklin, patiently answered all our questions and all his recommendations worked out great. The space is very cute and cheerfully decorated. The Chinese, Japanese and Peruvian flavors blend wonderfully. I encourage people to learn more about the history of how these elements found harmony with each other. It took a long time.

Top notch service, really great wait staff and nice ambience unfortunately couldn't make up for truly disappointing food. Every dish missed the mark, too salty, too fried, questionable freshness of ingredients. Just a real bummer when you're spending the money to expect a great meal.
Be the first to ReplyHoly crap.
Amazing. Every dish was delicious and came out hot. Favorites were the steam buns with the pork belly, the fried rice, and the sample of 12 dim sum. Service was slow at first but took off and did not disappoint. Really cool spot for dinner. No dress code. Kids must be adventurous.

Maybe because I grew up in Peru I am extra picky and gave only 4 stars. I think the essence was captured by the restaurant menu. The ambiance is great and lively. But the plate execution is just OK. I have been there twice and both times I felt like the quality of the dishes is lower than the price tag. Then again, there aren't many Peruvian themed restaurants in the DC metro I would give 5 stars to. The closest thing is Barra Brava in Rockville where you get quality.
Be the first to ReplyBright, lively restaurant.
We had lunch here on a Thursday without reservations. Service was good. Very attentive. Very familiar with the menu for explanations. Food was tasty. I really enjoyed the Lomo Saltado. Very good. I also loved the Kam Lu Wantan. My husband enjoyed his Tuna Ceviche and Salmon Donburi. He is very sensitive to cilantro and the server did not hesitate to bring him a new one when his came with it. The Tallarin Zhen Fe was very different but good. Drinks were also very good. The server was very patient in explaining the offerings. Would definitely recommend.

Ambiance is great, I thought certain plates were a little larger like the shrimp lomo saltado nothing crazy as well as the dim sum, the yucca was great and the suspiro limeรฑo dessert was the most amazing the dessert perfect combination of sweet and tarter

Outstanding food - we had the tasting menu and each course was beautifully presented and a treat for the palate. A veritable feast! We've been many times before and we are never disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyGlorified Chili's with even worse food.
At least there the expectations are low to begin with.Kudos to attentive staff, but we are avoiding the Jose Andres brand, this being our first and last experience.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered the concolon and other dishes as a takeout delivery.
Most of the food was edible and and okay but the fried rice in the concolon was definitely burnt, not crispy. It was the scrapped, bottom of pot burnt fried rice that was delivered which was a shame because the other items were ok.
Be the first to Replydo the chefs tasting menu.
each dish is the exact portion you would like and it's worth the money!

The food certainly lives up to the expectation of fusion and multicultural appreciation.

Are negative stars possible!?? We waited 39 minutes for our "reservation" before giving up. Most of the time the hostess stand was vacant... and even when it wasn't the hostess had a vacant expression and was zero help. We were always 10 minutes away from a table. The two managers ran around without effect, certainly not speeding up service. My last straw was being offered a menu so we could peruse a list of food we could not order from the reserved table we did not get. Poor showing. The best food cannot overcome appalling service.

Ahhhhhhhhh!!! I miss this kind of food! In the city for the weekend and decided to check this place out. We didn't have a reservation so took our chance popping in and they were able to seat us right away at the ceviche bar. The server let us know 2-3 small plates or one larger plate was a good amount of foot per person. My partner is vegetarian (and not much of a foodie, lol) so he opted for a safe fried rice (Aeropuerto). It was a good amount of food and he was really happy with it. I went with the Ceviche Nekkei and the Dancing Yucca (has bonito flakes on top that "dance" from the heat of the dish - it was really cool!). The ceviche was uh-maze-ing! So fresh and tasty. The yucca was good too - I really liked the sauces with it. I would love to go back and try the other types of ceviche or try the tasting menu! Nice atmosphere. Quick service. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyVery cool restaurant from Jose Andres.
Great location, such a fun interesting fusion menu! The decorations inside are bright and colorful. Tatami tables are also available along with normal standard seating. Reservations recommended in advance.Great menu selections, we ordered: Dancing Yucca, Kam Lu Wantan, Tam Tam noodles, and Suspiro Limena. All the dishes were great. The flavors balanced so well in all of the dishes, nothing was too salty or spicy or sweet! We asked a lot of questions to the server and they were very helpful when answering!

Had the most rude, ignorant waitress who ignored our table of 7. She made multiple rude comments and basically ruined our dining experience to where I will not return again. The restaurant was also overbooked and we waited 35 minutes outside after our reservation time waiting for our table. Pretty disappointing overall.

During my visit to the restaurant, I tried two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts. While the food was okay and too salty, the dessert was truly amazing. If I were to return to the restaurant, it would be solely for the dessert. In regards to the service, I found it to be average - not particularly friendly, but also not rude. My only suggestion would be for the receptionist to greet customers with a smile. Overall, it was a decent experience.
Be the first to ReplyCame here with the husband for dinner.
The service was amazing, our server was very attentive and gave recommendations. It was a very interesting experience considering this restaurant has such a mix of cultures. Every dish we ordered had a real complexity to each one, but the complexity threw me off sometimes. The dancing yuca was what made me knock off a star and how hot it was inside the restaurant. I should have read the menu that the yuca had tuna, I am not a fan of tuna. I wish the Siu Mai was a bit more seasoned but the other dishes we ordered were really good!

We were looking for a spot to have dinner after our Cirque show and the other two options we were looking at were completely booked. China Chilcano, luckily had an available table for our party of 4 at 7:30pm. We were about 15 minutes late due to traffic in the area, but they were able to seat us. Since we had a bunch of popcorn at the show, we split a ceviche and had some nibbles. We had the Ceviche Nikkei with big eye tuna, soy-cured egg yolk, ponzu, puffed quinoa, avocado, jicama, red onion, and furikake. I love the flavors in this and even used the leftover sauce in my salmon donburi. My salmon donburi was fine - I felt like the sauce it came with did not have enough flavor and didn't really highlight the fresh fish. As I mentioned, I used the leftover ceviche sauce to flavor the rice. X had their Ceviche Clasico, which was very good. We opted to get three desserts and everyone had a bite of each. The Torta de Chocolate was super moist and soft and I really liked the passionfruit sorbet it came with. In-laws had the Ponderaciones de Kiwicha, which is a crispy fried kiwicha spiral cookie with banana ice cream and Peruvian chocolate cream. The banana ice cream was fantastic. X had the Suspiro Limeรฑa, with sweetened condensed milk custard topped with soft and crunchy meringue and passion fruit. This wasn't as sweet as I thought it would've been and I enjoyed it a lot. Pisco sours were great and I highly recommend the passionfruit flavor.

Delicious! We had the Ceviche Nikkei, Concolรณn, and tradicional dim sum along with one of their summer rye cocktails. From start to finish every plate had layers of flavor, we enjoyed every bite.

I enjoyed the tam tam noodles very much! the char siu buns were also very delicious! I just knocked down a star because the establishment was extremely hot and the AC was barely running. We went during a peak summer day in July and it was way too hot inside.
Be the first to ReplySuddenly I was running though the streets of downtown DC.
Jumping cars and weaving through crowds. You might be wondering how I got myself in this situation. It all started 2 hours ago when I was transported to Peru at China Chilcano. When I first walked in a saw a door. I then opened the door. Behind that door, was another door. It helps keep the cold out. Such a smart idea. We were greeted by warm service and surrounded by see through walls, aka windows. The service was fabulous and everyone was super attentive/kind/understanding/not not good. First we ordered drinks, I picked 3 beers each one more foamy than the last. They were all really good and they were from Peru. Turns out I love Peruvian beer. Peru. Your gonna love the beer here. Peru. Peru. We ordered 4 plates - each had a bigger bowl than the last. We ordered the aeropuerto rice, that was really good. Best plate we ordered. 7/7. I love fractions. Especially when they are whole fractions. Math. I'm always keeping it 5/6. We also ordered donburi ji song. I could be singing about this plate all day. 6.8/7. Awesome sauce in that. You're going to be McLovin it. Peru. Their maximum seating capacity is 158. The other stone dish called concolon. This was the smokiest thing I've ever eaten in my life. Everything tasted burnt not gonna lie. 17/41. Wouldn't recommend. However they gave us our money back for our plate, great service. Service = good. But it gave me enough energy that I could finally follow my dreams of running a marathon. And so I ran.
