The outside was sketchy but the inside was 5 star and the food was some of the best I've ever eaten. Easily the best service and setting I experienced in all of my time in New York!
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant was so cute inside.
Very comfortable and spacious. The waiter was very kind and encouraged us to have fun. A manager brought us over to the downstairs club towards the end of the night where my friends and I enjoyed some tequila lemon drop shots. The shots were literally the size of a cocktail. The food was quite tasty. The pork dumplings and shrimp wontons were scrumptious and the lobster toast was the highlight of the entire menu!
Be the first to ReplyI went here during my week stay in NY and was amazed.
I have eaten Chinese food all over the US and you get the standard stuff with varying taste differences. This was like nothing I have ever had, each dish was different than anything I have ever had, and tasted amazing. I especially liked the steak and amazing sauce, burrata, shrimp wontons, lobster toast. And the drinks were great but I can't recall the name, after too much fun.

I would say the food here itself was ok, it was really overpriced for what it was. I came on a Thursday evening with a girlfriend. The eggplant was my favorite. It was crispy, light, and delicious! We also ordered two oxtail buns (each order only comes with one), which was pretty good. The squid ink noodles turned out to be very salty, which was a bit disappointing. However, the interior of the downstairs dining area has elegant decor and soft lighting. It was so pretty, and I loved the vibe it gave. It has a really sophisticated atmosphere. All the staff were super friendly and didn't give off a pretentious vibe (which tends to happen at spots like this) but their attentiveness added to the overall positive experience of dining here.

Nice drinks! First time here we enjoyed our meal would go back again.

I've been so many times as the food is excellent (lots of vegetarian options) as well as impeccable service and ambiance. I would go back a dozen times more. Also, there is a fun speakeasy attached to the restaurant that goes by "Peachy's" which is a great way to continue the night.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a fairly big restaurant in Chinatown.
Make sure you make a reservation because it is super busy there and you'll definitely be waiting. I highly suggest any of the dumplings but especially the mushroom ones. The burrata is just okay, so you can skip that one. The spicy noodles are excellent and same with the beef. The cocktails are good especially the mezcal one. The bathroom situation isn't the greatest, there's two stalls for the entire restaurant. Definitely check it out if you like Chinese food.

The apps were DELICIOUS!! My friend and I celebrated my birthday here. (They do not sing happy birthday, which is nice if you don't want attention.) The dinner portions are big; so you could share (or not) ahaha. Atmosphere was wonderful and cozy. You would expect it. Deff coming back here

Didn't try the menu but Chris bartending was nice. Inside is really dope, low volume kinda spot. Perfect for a date night.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for a date night.
At this restaurant, you order all of your food at once. There are appetizers, dim sum, noodles and rices, and heavier entrees. We started with the hamachi which had a very interesting and pleasant texture as well as the burrata. The burrata has oil on top as well as some nuts which make it an incredibly well composed bite. The bread that comes with it is a Chinese breakfast pastry, making this a cool combination of American/Italian flair with traditional Chinese flavors and textures. My partner's favorite dish was the lattice crispy pork and chive dumpling, which was a classic dumpling flavor with an upscaled twist. The spicy mi goreng stirred noodles were cooked perfectly and weren't too spicy, though it did build as you ate more and more of it.

Atmosphere is energetic and vibrant. The food is delicious and unique. Highly recommend.

Chinese Tuxedo has effortlessly secured its place among the top 10 restaurants in my culinary journey, offering an extraordinary dining experience that encompasses impeccable ambiance, delectable food, stellar service, and exceptional drinks. This hidden gem is truly a gem, and my recent visit with my brother during the week was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we were seated in the main dining area, the ambiance of Chinese Tuxedo enveloped us in an atmosphere of sophistication and charm. To kick off our culinary adventure, we started with the Hamachi, a crudo elevated to new heights by the best sauce I've ever had. My brother and I found ourselves savoring every last bit of the plate, relishing the perfect harmony of flavors with the addition of rice pearls. The Lobster & Shrimp Sesame Toast that followed was a revelation. The toast, cooked to perfection, redefined my understanding of what perfect toast tastes like. The combination of lobster and shrimp, coupled with the delicate sesame notes, created a dish that was nothing short of extraordinary. The Crispy Pork & Chive Dumplings were a delight, showcasing the culinary prowess of the kitchen. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, and it was evident that careful craftsmanship went into every detail. While the Crispy Eggplant received recommendations, it turned out to be my least favorite due to its overly breaded nature. However, the redeeming quality was the accompanying sauce, which added a burst of flavor that was noteworthy. To conclude our culinary journey, we indulged in the Squid Ink Noodles, a dish that stood out for its uniqueness and exquisite taste. Each element of the meal, from start to finish, left an indelible mark on our palates. Ultimately, the Hamachi and Lobster & Shrimp Sesame Toast emerged as our favorites, showcasing the culinary excellence that Chinese Tuxedo embodies. It's rare for me to revisit the same restaurant in NYC, but Chinese Tuxedo has earned a permanent spot on my list of recommendations for any guests visiting the city. If you're seeking an unforgettable culinary experience, look no further than the remarkable offerings of Chinese Tuxedo.
Be the first to ReplySaturday dinner for 2.
Loved the vibe and interior deco. Can't believe I haven't been here in the 7 years I've lived in NY and the 2 years living in LES. Upon entry, it feels like a Wong Kar Wai film in a moody, classy speakeasy, taking me back to the 60s, with a modern twist. The walk past the bar is narrow, then it opens to a staircase and a huge dining room downstairs. We sat on the upper level next to the balcony in the corner booth. I loved my view of the round doorway with wooden deco and Chinese writing, as well as the airy dining room lined with candles and plants. It is quite loud and dark inside so keep that in mind - intimate friends and lovers only ;) Started with the hamachi crudo with brown butter ponzu. Yum!! *must order* Followed with the honey glazed Berkshire pork char siu - another hit! This dish brings me back to my childhood when my mom used to take us to this grocery store in Phoenix and they had a takeout counter in the center of it. My favorite was always the pork char siu. Heart. The next two were much too salty for both of our palates - turnip cakes and crab noodle. Wanted to really love them, but the over salting ruined it a bit for us. The cocktail list looked pretty fun and tasty - will be back to explore that more. Service was decent and the crowd was vibrant.

A friend surprised me by taking me here for dinner while visiting. All the awesome things people say are TRUE! Super cool entrance to the downstairs dining area with lots of people, noise, bustling servers, and food flying past us as we snaked out way to our little table. Inside is very dark so I had difficulty reading the menu. Luckily, my host knows the menu by heart and ordered for us. Started with the spicy burrata which was amazing with sesame and black vinegar dressing, peanuts, green sichuan peppercornNext was the Tuxedo dumplings with spicy pork. really nice flavorsMain course was the duck... Amazingly flavorful and a whole lot of foodI think my only complaint would be that we were rushed to clear the table for the next customer. Although, as loud as it was inside, I was happy to move on to a more 'conversation friendly' location.

A few friends and I have been dying to try this place and finally got a reservation for a Wednesday night. The vibe is very cool and the menu is a bit overwhelming because we wanted to try it all! Some must orders: Chicken buns, spicy cucumbers, crispy eggplant + salt & pepper pork chop. Will definitely be back!Follow my instagram: @global_grubs !
Be the first to ReplyI love this place.
Trendy, upscale - which is not what I usually go for, but this place delivers on the food front. I can't get enough of the Duck (comes with duck fried rice as well as duck that's sliced a la peking duck style). Unfortunately - they discontinued it 1-2 weeks ago. Other goodies - the fried eggplant - SO GOOD! so delicious and the flavors are so unique. It's a peanut butter goodness that is sweet/sour and fried to perfection. The salt/pepper pork chop is also delicious. They just fry things amazingly. My only complaint at times is the attitude - yesterday, we had great service, but some of the waiters previously can act quite rude/cold to you until you order enough to make it right with them.
Be the first to ReplyThe name of the restaurant fascinated me definitely.
Thought this place would deserve more than what I give before I walked in.Environment 4.3/5Food 2.7/5Service 3/5Price 3.5/5The atmosphere gave me a vibe where this place would be definitely loved from the non-asian demographic.Isn't this supposed to be a Chinese restaurant? Where are chinese servers or any person who could give more insight and information about the food on the menu?Including ourselves, there was one table whom are also asians, and the rest were not.Not trying to judge but when it comes to food, I feel that people who are from the origin would define what the best food and taste would be.So this impression - totally was not surprising when our 7 dishes were served.Dim sums, vegetables, fried rice, noodles and Fish dish all tasted like the chinese chicken powder we use in general to cook at home. This is wrong. Not the fact that using MSG is bad but have some more speciality and flavor to the food why this restaurant is great.Obviously I am not looking for wines, whiskey, or even American fusion food when walking into a Chinese restaurant.Aside from this - thought the service could be better but no explanation about menu at all. And did not recognize where our coats and jackets have been checked-in. NOT PROFESSIONAL.Price is okay - not that expensive. If the food could be better - definitely would have given a better review.Great place to celebrate special occasions as the atmosphere is nice.Recommended if you want something more not authentic and chill vibe instead of looking for good food.

Chinese Tuxedo is a trendy restaurant that managed to have not disappoint my high expectations. We got the squid-ink pasta, burrata, dumplings, soft shell dried rice, and fried oysters. We loved them all. Nothing was overly salty or lacked flavor at all. The dumplings was a pretty small portion, but pack a flavorful punch.
Be the first to ReplyA Modern Twist to Traditional Chinese.
The Food: I came here with a group of coworkers. The menu has an array of dishes that are perfect for sharing with a group. The menu is bold and vibrant. We ordered the crispy eggplant, strange flavor burrata, oxtail bun, shiitake and shepherd's purse dumpling, lobster and shrimp toast, and yellow lantern fried chicken. I'd recommend all of these dishes! The Vibe: The restaurant is almost hidden on a curved street in Chinatown. The ambiance is airy and the look reminds me of Old Havana. The walls are high and exposed with a lot of greenery to decorate them. The tables are large and beautiful with black leather seats. Do not let the simple decor fool you, there is a lively hidden bar downstairs. The vibrant decor and fun cocktails make it the perfect spot for a nightcap after dinner.
Be the first to ReplySo glad we made it here.
I have been to their sister restaurant (Tyger) and loved itOne word for the vibe - chic! Service is very nice and so is the decor. Food is served family style so best to order many plates and share Cocktails - they made me a lychee martini which was the best drink on our table. It wasn't on the menu btw so feel free to ask them to make you something if you don't find anythingWe started with the cucumber green tomato plate. Their house cHili oil is so flavorful. Highly recommend this starter for its freshness The burrata surprised us! We have never had cheese served up like that. Comes with this fried dough thing with a lot of spices smothering (in a nice way) the burrataThe oxtail bun is a thing of beauty and the chilli paste (?) should be patented. Lovely oxtail meat encased in that golden pastry with that heat is absolutely amazing The sweet potato curry spring rolls also are beautiful packets of flavor The pork & prawn jian dui were probably my least favorite and even then it's a solid 4/5The crispy pork & chive dumpling comes in lattice style and is pretty while pretty tasty. All flavors are complimentary to each other. Another push for my lychee martini cutting through all the spices beautifully The crispy eggplant is chef's kiss. Highly highly recommend even if you are one of those meat eaters who thinks vegetables are shite. What they did with those eggplant is almost sorcery (I know I'm being dramatic)Again, excuse my drama, but you shouldn't leave without tasting the XO fried rice. I will use limited vocabulary as the reason for not being able to articulate the exact feeling while eating this dish. Umm, I'll try... It's comforting, like a warm hug, but a fancy hug, you know. The spicy mi goreng was another excellent vegetarian dish that is highly recommended. What I loved is they're not slapping you with heat. They use their spices very smartly. Finally, the yellow lantern fried chicken was an over order and I could do without it but don't get me wrong, it was very good, but nothing to fill your tummy with at this placeThey gave us one dessert on the house because we ordered the other one. The flan went in like silky butter. The cake (not your average cake btw) with ice cream was also a great way to end the mealWill I be going back? After all this drama, you bet I will!

Every single dish here was super high quality and were so unique. They were able to take simple dishes and elevate them into flavors that I have never tried before. The service was amazing and the ambiance was also so nice- there was a lot of nice decorations and the greenary and was all together put together so nicely. Definitely a great spot if you want something a little more upscale. The drinks were also so good !

If you're looking for a nice Chinese restaurant this is a great spot! Food was delicious as was the service and atmosphere. Great for a special occasion.

However food was alright. Would not come back for the food. If you want to try traditional, amazing good Chinese food. You have better luck going somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyYou need to go to Chinese Tuxedo in NYC.
The photos won't do it justice nor will this review. We did the tasting menu and I couldn't stop eating the food was too good. I really liked the vegetarian buns and the spicy pickles. The Dan Dan noodles were also flavorful. I had a mochi mocktail that was the perfect mix of sour and sweet. It's a trendy spot with cool decor, dim lighting and a spacious atmosphere. The prices are pretty reasonable for the portion sizes. This will now always be on my recommendation list for nyc spots
Be the first to ReplyIncredible restaurant.
Visited NYC and was recommended Chinese Tuxedo by a family member. Based on the name, I was envisioning white table cloths and a hushed environment. Instead, we walked in to a hip, modern, fun restaurant. Ambiance was 10/10 and food was 100/10. Went with vegetarians so ordered every vegetarian item they had. Enjoyed every single one. What stood out would be the crispy eggplant, fried rice, burrata and noodles. Will definitely be recommending Chinese Tuxedo to all who visit!
