Cho Dang Gol New York Reviews from The Last Year
bibimbap was the best part of this experience.
the crispy edges really add to the flavor, and the meat was juicy and tender. rice was flavorful. maybe it was the alcohol that was getting to me, but this was by far the best bibimbap ive ever eaten. the baby octopus & beef bulgogi was only alright. i think the textures were kinda blending together, not in a good way. the rice cake was not too chewy, and the meat was just a bit too soft. octopus was a bit too hard. flavor was good tho, pretty spicy.
This place is very nice- food so good and cheap.
Service so good. The chesnut rice wine is so good too.
Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night.
Unfortunately they don't take reservations so we waited about an hr. Although at the end of the night we felt like the wait was pretty worth it. The restaurant environment was nice, very spacious, not too loud. Our servers were so nice. The service really stood out to me bc all the staff were so courteous and patient with explaining the food to us even though they are clearly so busy already. The food was amazing too! Loved the seafood pancakes and my perilla seed tofu, which is a completely new flavor that I'm not used to, but really appreciated! Not to mention the price of this place, I only spent about $30 with tax/tip combined! We were so full and felt everything was so worth it. Definitely recommend!
One of the worst restaurants I've had in nyc, banchan was
One of the worst restaurants I've had in nyc, banchan was not good at all, lacking flavor and just very strange. Our server also didn't even care to ask us for refills for either the banchan or our water the whole evening. None of the food I ordered was good either. Bossam meat was very porky and the kimchi was way too spicy. I can definitely handle spice but this overpowered the bossam. Bulgogi and octopus tasted very average, and expensive at almost $30. Also too spicy. Spicy seafood soup tasted like spicy clam water, nothing to write home about at all. Rather go to BCD than this shitty Korean restaurant. What a waste of $80 and a horrendous meal to start off my long weekend.

I would say I'm pretty good with spice, but the dishes we got were so insanely spicy. We got the tofu soup, octopus and bulgolgi, and mini bossam. The tofu soup tasted like clam water with a bunch of spice. The octopus and bulgolgi dish tasted like something I could make at home, definitely not worth the $30 price tag for how small the dish was. The bossam had a heavy porky taste, meaning it wasn't fresh. The service was quite bad, no one came to refill our waters the entire night nor asked us how things were. The place is quite small and the servers kept rocking my chair every time they tried to get to the table next to us. Really confused why this place is so popular.

Put number on waitlist, waited for 48 minutes, received message that table was open, sent text message to confirm, arrived before 10 minute waiting period was up (check time stamps in screenshot), was told by host that I did not confirm and the table was given to the next party. Waiting period is more like 5 minutes so it seems like they expect you to wait outside the restaurant for an hour or more.

My family and I decided to have dinner at the restaurant on a weekend. Luckily, we arrived before the rush hour so the wait for the next table was not too long. The restaurant is popular and known for their homemade tofu so we ordered a tofu stew along with other dishes. Most of the dishes were very good and a few were average. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and the staff were very friendly and fast.
What is not to love about this place? The food is so
What is not to love about this place? The food is so comforting, almost everything on the menu is amazing, service is quick and efficient! You have to get the biji jjigae and the bossam! I have been back so many times and it's always worth it! A perfect portion size, too!
CDG is crazy busy for a reason.
The food is outstanding and service is superb. Don't let the wait scare you though. We purposely planned to go 1 to 1.5 hours before dinner to get on the waitlist. You get a text when your table is almost ready and have 10 minutes to make your way back once you get that notification. You can also download an app in which you can check to see how many parties are in front of you to give you a better estimate of the wait time. We decided to get the naengi eggplant rice ($9), bossam ($18.99), and perilla seed tofu stew ($18.99). We were also given banchan and each received a small bowl of housemade tofu. You can always request more orders of banchan! The eggplant rice is something that I've never had or seen elsewhere and is a dish that I highly recommend. The crispy bits are the best! The perilla seed tofu soup is also something that is unique. I LOVE perilla, but I didn't taste any shiso (which is what I expected). Instead, it was more of a nutty flavor, but still very flavorful and light. Staff were so friendly and nice. I asked to try the makgeolli because I didn't want to commit to a glass if I didn't like it, and they offered to provide samples of the ones I was interested in. You're also given complimentary cookies (yakgwa) at the end of the meal. Yakgwa is a deep-fried layered cookie doused in a honey-ginger syrup. We expected the little flower-shaped cookie to be crisp, but it was actually soft and chewy.
The experience here was next level.
The fried chicken was delivered with ketchup though, not the homemade sweet chili sauce advertised. We also had the bulgogi hotpot which was delicious if you like sweet food. Some tough pieces experienced. I'm bummed I didn't order the tofu but thought some would come out free as advertised elsewhere. Will probably be back to try tofu.
!!! Probably the best Korean food I had in the US.
I heard from my coworkers that this place is usually packed and people had to wait in lines for tables, and I can confirm that. We were dotted around 5:20, by 5:30, there was already a long line of people waiting. It was amazing to try many of their dishes but my absolute fav was the beef stew plus rice cakes. Service was amazing!
Ok the cod roe omelette was truly divine, I did not know
Ok the cod roe omelette was truly divine, I did not know egg could turn into this. The egg had a fluffiness beyond what I've ever seen before. The cod roe inside and green tea mayo on top blended together to create an irresistible burst of flavor, full of umami and creaminess. Absolutely incredible. The sundubu however, it kind of missed. We got 3 sundubus, only the spicy one was decent. The other two were watery and flavorless. The mushroom rice was ok, I do like the mushroom elevation. Will be back to actually try their main dishes and the cod roe omelette again, when I'm ever in the mood to wait 1.5 hours for a table.
Would you like an incredibly delicious, reasonably priced
Would you like an incredibly delicious, reasonably priced meal ? If you like Korean food, this is your new go-to place. Cho Dang Gol makes its own wonderful tofu -- I converted an "I do not really like tofu" person into a "this is so delicious !" person with just one lunch ! If you arrive as they open at lunch, there will be a line, quickly accommodated and in fifteen minutes, the restaurant will be completely full.......so, what to do ? Well, either line up just before 12, or wait until 1, when the initial rush is over and suddenly the place is empty. I love the small dishes that accompany Korean meals. Know that they differ from day to day, but I loved one so much, they gave me more... So you see, this is a place that will see a lot of me. They are just as nice if you are by yourself, or with friends.

4 of us went to CDG at 6pm and waited about 20 mins for a table on a Tuesday night which wasn't too bad. Great service and decent food. The Seafood & Scallion Pancake was delicious and I really like the Cod Roe Omelet a lot. The Octopus Flavored Rice was a little bland to my liking. Their CDG Seafood Jeongol (Hot Pot) was tasty and definitely can be shared among four people.
CDG doesn't miss.
I could pick something random blindfolded off the menu and I guarantee I'd at least like it, if not love it. There's a reason there are lines outside even during the most off-peak weekday hours, but it's worth it. They also will text you when your table is ready so you can do other things while waiting. I've had a handful of things on their menu by now and enjoyed them all, but the gamjatang I had on my most recent visit would have to be my favorite. Super generous and tender pork with an incredibly flavorful broth that blew us away. We loved the addition of dates that added a comfortingly herbal and sweet touch to the broth. Shout out to the perilla stew also, and their relatively affordable lunch specials. Definitely worth a visit!

one of the most affordable dinners ive had in ktown with great food! the wait was 1.5 hours on the weekend for dinner so would go early to put a name down the cod roe omelette was surprisingly my favorite! would definitely recommend as a dish to share. the galbi jjim was good (4/5) but not the best i've had in NY. both the tofu stews with rice are a great addition, would pick one depending on whether you like spicy or not. and the seafood rice cake came with lots of variety so i would recommend that to share too!
Came here for dinner on a weeknight and put our name down
Came here for dinner on a weeknight and put our name down for the waiting list around 5:30. They open again at 5 but when we got there at 5:30 there were already a bunch of parties ahead of us waiting. Definitely try to get here at 5p sharp if you can to avoid the wait. We waited roughly 25 mins which wasn't too bad and we ordered the below. The noodle soup tastes really good and hearty. The seafood pancake was amazing too, albeit a little small considering the price. The restaurant is definitely really loud for dinner so something to keep in mind if you're looking for a more quiet reserved restaurant. Definitely recommend checking out one day if you're in the area.
This place is packed.
Even putting a name down shortly after they open, there was still a 40 minute wait to get in for a table of 5. Our waitress was very friendly. We got served a small bowl of fresh warm soybean curd. While I enjoyed that, I didn't love it in the kimchi soybean curd stew. The highlight was the cod roe omelet. It was so good, we ended up ordering another one. There was a good chunk of cod roe in the middle and the sauce paired perfectly with the fluffy warm omelet. The mushroom rice was very underwhelming. It didn't have that fragrant mushroom smell and it was very bland. It did pair well after adding the bulgolgi hotpot sauce though. The hotpot was very homey, very generic and felt like something I could make at home with just the sliced meat and a bottle of bulgolgi sauce. I'd come back for the cod roe omelet and watching them grind/mill the soybean in the kitchen. That's how you know it's fresh. It's fairly small but they seem to be have a fast turnaround when it comes to bringing out the dishes.
I was curious many people waiting for seat in outside.
So I try dinner in last night. I and friend ordered stews and octopus and meat and mini bossam. Stews were ok nothing special but octopus was so tough and meat quality was not acceptable it's not chewable. And bossam was so dry and no taste. Not recommend this restaurant. So many fine restaurants in 32nd Korean street. Go there.
Korean restaurant
Very busy restaurant can’t book but can join the wait list Food was delicious really excellent choice staff very helpful however we were eating late 9.15 pm and the kitchen closes soon after that Good value
Must go to for Korean food in Ktown NYC@@@@
This was our last night on vacation in NYC. We could not decide on a dinner venue, so my son picked this place. It was AMAZING! We did have to wait an hour, but it was well worth it. They make their own tofu. Every dish we had was very good. Would highly recommend this restaurant for Korean food.
No Wonder There is Always a Line
The wonder if there's always a line.cho dang gol Is known for their soy base dishes and particular to the third tofu and soy sauce. The 4 main dishes looked to be excellent. They have a morning special soup which was excellent. Delish Yakgwa at the end. Will be back
