100% Worth the Hype!
While in Chicago for a work conference my fiancé found Ciccio Mio on Instagram while we were in Uber headed to another restaurant for dinner. It looked so Italian/romantic/vibey we decided to wing it, cancelled our other reservation and showed up at 8pm-ish with no reservations. Once there we were greeted by the front desk and told them we saw a 10:30pm reservation and asked if it was still available. They added us to the list and offered suggestions of having a drink at either of their sister properties on each side of the restaurant. We walked next door to Bavette and had a drink while we waited. Bavette was busy, with great ambiance and we had the nicest bartender we could have asked for who we loved! (Her name is escaping me but she’s the one who has lived in Portland & South Carolina- she was fabulous!). We received a text from Ciccio Mio saying our table was ready. We arrived and were greeted by Jessica at the front desk, and seated at a cozy booth in the server Jessica’s section). Both of the staff we interacted with were incredibly kind, engaging, customer focused and made us feel so welcome. Although we were seated late and the restaurant was emptying we were not rushed and not treated as if we were holding anyone up. Ambiance is 100/10. Darling, romantic, intimate, 11 table restaurant, pretty to look at, great music. Regarding the food, we ordered lasagne, pappardelle, and mushrooms. The pappardelle was phenomenal, possibly one of the best pastas we have ever had. The mushrooms were absolutely delicious. While we weren’t in love with the lasagne it was a round, very delicate dish, not prepared the same as traditional lasagne so was still fun to try but we would not order that again. Bread service was great. The burrata was divine. I also appreciated that while we were planning to order several more dishes Jessica made a point not to let us order more than we needed, knew it would be far too much food, and wasn’t just trying to upsell us. We would not have changed a thing about our experience, and left in agreement it was one of the best meals/restaurant experiences we have ever had. 100% worth the hype! Definitely recommend and looking forward to coming back next time we are in Chicago… or making up a reason to go to Chicago so we have an excuse to go back to Ciccio Mio. I spent nearly 2 decades working with fine dining, upscale restaurants, high end hotels and have been to every kind of fancy and basic restaurant and hotel under the sun. It is extremely rare the ambiance, staff, level of service and food all come together. Every single aspect of the experience was excellent and that the staff were so engaging and friendly while still maintaining complete professionalism was icing on the cake. The fact that we had excellent service and excellent servers at both Ciccio & Bavette speaks to the restaurant group. No wonder they are so successful their concepts, food, and people that we encountered during our visit, were all great.

Ate at Coccio Mio last night. Perfect weather to enjoy the outdoor tables. Beautiful restaurant inside, quaint, comfortable and really unique. Started the evening with our waiter finally getting us some water. First thing I noticed was my wife's water glass wasn't cleaned well, it had the remnants of the last females lipstick on the rim. Not a good start but hey, it's a glass that is hand washed and just missed. The second issue our waiter Kai... nothing better than a great server to enhance the experience. Unfortunately, we didn't get that with last night. He took about 10 minutes to even engage the table. I asked if they had any bourbon drink recommendations but he didn't have any. So I ordered their house old fashioned. Asked what their bourbon rye was that they used and he had no idea. I have to think they serve a few house old fashioneds but he didn't have a clue it was even served with rye. He said he'd find out but I just said I'd take it. Drinks were good. Then came the next phase of slow. He again kept walking by on the sidewalk scanning tables but never engaged. I was hoping when he finally was taking orders he might offer a few suggestions or overview on the options. Nope just started writing down the orders. Just not what I would have expected at this place. Upside is the food was excellent. All meals were absolutely fantastic. We tried to order another order of bread (which was great but neither the server or helper had any clue what it actually was when we asked), but Kai wasn't around again. He finally came back and apologized again for being gone. He said they had a 60th birthday party that he was helping with??? Evidently those patrons were more important... weird comment. Finally, got our bread order out, finished dinner and then had to ask for desert menu. Kai again came out with menus... 3 menus for our table of 4? Maybe I'm getting picky but he just wasn't engaged in anyway with our dining experience.. kind of why we have a server in my book. Opted for no desert thinking that might take another hour. Can't say I've tipped 10% in the last 5 years but I'd say the 10% was an over tip. Simply, food was excellent but the service was some of the most unattentive as I've had in some time. Hard to review this place with such polar opposites with the entire experience. Fix the service issues and this place would be great ... but, based on this experience that may be a big ask.

A perfect date spot. Ambiance is sexy cozy and thoughtful. Our server was excellent and the food was outstanding!

The PRO’s The restaurant is very unique in decor. Dark wood paneling, old pictures all over the walls in gold frames, pretty chandeliers. Our server Katie was lovely and the support staff were all very attentive. The appetizers, main courses and dessert portions were all very generous in size We had three appetizer courses, three main courses and five desserts. ( two of us were celebrating birthdays. The restaurant comped us two desserts and our grown children surprised and treated us with three desserts). CON’s I’m listing the food that we ordered. 1. CAESAR SALAD- mediocre. 2- BLACK TRUFFLE BUCATINI PASTA- fabulous 3- MEATBALLS- not very good 1- CHICKEN PARMESAN- not very good. 2-LASAGNA BOLOGNESE ROTOLO- not very good 3- COAL FIRED RIBEYE- excellent DESSERT- ALL WERE NOT VERY GOOD BREAD PUDDING, CANNOLI, MERINGUE DESSERT, TWO ICE CREAM DISHES WITH CARMEL SALTED DRIZZLE. I’m sorry to not give Ciccio Mio a better review. I was very disappointed in the food, and with so many great restaurants in Chicago, I will not be going back.

Be the first to ReplyThe Best of the Best
In my opinion, Ciccio Mio is the best Italian restaurant in Chicago. Monteverde is sometimes rated number one, and I have been to both, but Monteverde, though excellent, does not have the same je ne sais quoi of Ciccio Mio with its unique décor and eclectic menu. My wife and I went to Ciccio Mio to celebrate her birthday and Michael, our excellent waiter, took the time to provide expert service while making considerate recommendations on drinks, food and wine, giving an honest opinion on each selection. The menu contained so many tempting offerings it was difficult to choose, but, with Michael’s thoughtful guidance, we chose the dirty martini with three, plump blue cheese stuffed olives--simply luscious--the large Caesar salad with potato chips and parmesan—innovative, huge and delicious--the lasagna Bolognese rotolo—amazing visual, flavorful, olfactory experience—and the king salmon agrodolce—cooked perfectly and topped with a light yet amazing sauce. We shared each serving because they were large and wonderful, but, in my opinion, too substantial for one person. After the meal, Michael hand-delivered a birthday desert of almond toasted gelato topped with a flaming candle and side of mini-cookies--absolutely heavenly. I couldn’t have chosen a better restaurant to celebrate my wife’s special day or a better Italian restaurant in our fair city.

Absolutely and totally amazing We are wine drinkers and we’re debating between two bottles and she actually suggested that the slightly cheaper one was better suited to the food we were ordering. Totally appreciated her not pushing the more expensive bottle. She was wonderful right through the meal. The food was absolutely smashing from the food to the aged ham to the pasta. The soft serve gelato was just out of the world. Smashing and can’t go wait to come back
Be the first to ReplyVery hard to get reservation SO WORTH IT
In a nutshell..if you can figure out the exact time to sit in front of your computer to snag a reservation to this place, do it!! Roughly a month before I was to visit my kids who are living in Chicago, I pressed the button to confirm my reservation at EXACTLY 9am for a 7pm Tuesday night dinner, and when I went back two minutes later, all the reservations for that night had been claimed. So when we arrived for our dinner this week, we knew everyone there dining wanted to eat there as much as we did. There were many special occasions celebrated that night. From our experience, I can see why. Beautiful decor, friendly and attentive wait staff, and to die for cuisine. My daughter and I are huge pasta fans, and really everything Italian, my son not so much. But even my son said it was one of the best meals he ever had. We skipped appetizers and went straight for some entrees with drinks..Spicy rigatoni, truffle bucatini, chicken parmesan, roast chicken, vesuvio potatoes, broccoli rabe was what we decided on. Best chicken parm ever (and we have had our share lol)..crispy yet super tender with perfect light tomato sauce and mozz. Spicy rigatoni was surprisingly light and perfect. Bucatini had a good amount of truffles and cooked to perfection. The chicken, potatoes and broccoli went so well together and seasoned so well. For dessert, we all shared the hazelnut tirimisu, almond gelato and these chocolate cannoli things..all of which were out of this world!! I will be making another reservation as soon as I am in town again!!

Ambience and wait staff were amazing. Alfredo was just such a wonderful person. He went out of his way to make us feel special on our anniversary. His food and wine recommendations were really good! We will be back!

Trying this for the first time. Such a friendly staff, beautiful ambiance and excellent food.
We will definitely come here again. Amore was our server and she really made our evening.
Esquisite Service and Food
From start to finish, this was an amazing dining experience. We each got 2 drinks and each one was amazing. We got the calamari app, and while good, we would probably skip that next time. I got the vodka rigatoni, which was fluffy and flavorful. He got the chicken vesuvio, which was equally as delicious. They brought out pavlova and while it was not what we were expecting, we are so glad we got to try it. The waiter was so knowledgeable and descriptive about the menu and very patient while we made our decisions. Can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the better dinner experiences I’ve had
Incredible service, very neat and relaxed atmosphere, and very good food. Everything was prepared incredibly well. Would highly recommend the lasagna. Everything about the experience was positive. Would come back in a heartbeat.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent restaurant
We sat outside on one of their sidewalk tables on a cool night but the heater worked great. The tables were well spaced and the restaurant followed COVID precautions. The bread service was great with delicious dipping items and pickled vegetables. We loved the artichoke and burratta appetizers. We had the lasagna, black truffle pasta and beef cheeks for our main courses and all were excellent. Service was excellent. We would definitely come back to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAnother Brendan Sodikoff creation
Brendan Sodikoff is one of the most creative and innovative restaurant entrepreneurs in Chicago. He has opened several outstanding eateries in the city and Ciccio Mio is the latest--and one of the best, if early rave notices are any indication. Located at 226 West Kinzie in Chicago's River North neighborhood, in the shadow of the Merchandise Mart, between Orleans and Wells, this Italian restaurant opened in October and scored an immediate hit with patrons with its old-time charm, old-world atmosphere, red velvet booths, antiques and tantalizing dishes. Open at 5 p.m. daily, Ciccio Mio is proof that there always is room for another outstanding Italian restaurant in a town filled with them. My wife and I started with beef, pork and veal meatballs with parmesan and herbs, traditional wedding soup with meatballs, parmesan and baby kale and the house salad with baby lettuce, salami, shaved parmesan, olives and red wine vinaigrette. For an entree, my wife chose skewered swordfish with pickled peppers, baby artichoke, roasted onion and escarole with vesuvio potatoes. I enjoyed a coal fired ribeye steak with roasted garlic, fried rosemary, broccoli and vesuvio potatoes. For dessert, we shared three scoops of chocolate gelato and a couple of cannolis stuffed with whipped cream. After only a few months, Sodikoff appears to have produced another winner in Ciccio Mio.
