Never give CARD DETAILS over the phone to SAAGAR! The worst Indian Restaurant in Dublin. It has the most discourteous staff who CHEAT. I placed an order on phone and after an hour I gave a call to know the status of the food. The manager told that "I" gave the incorrect number which is why food did not reach. Says this caused a lot of inconvenience and therefore he would charge Extra 10EUR!! I refused the same and asked him to keep the food with him. Seeing my credit card statement today, I see that they have shamelessly CHARGED not only the price of the food but also the EXTRA for the inconvenience! This is when I DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE THE FOOD!

My boyfriend and I have eaten here on two occasions, both time on vouchers (€60 of food and drink for €19), and on both times the food has been great. I'm surprised to hear the stories of other voucher-users, as there were no limits on what we could order and the prices were no different from what was quoted on the menu. The only thing that I can think of is that you didn't mention you have a voucher on the phone when booking, which is required (and fair enough, if you ask me). We shared an onion bhaji to start, which were nice and had a lamb masala (the lamb was perfectly tender) and prawn tandoori for main. The prawn tandoori was without doubt the best I have ever had; huge, juicy perfectly cooked prawns. They also have wine in 50cl bottles, which I haven't seen before and is the perfect size for sharing, especially as it was a Sunday. The staff were, admittedly, awkward; seeming shy or something, but the owner came over and told us that he hoped we enjoyed our meal and he was very friendly and easy to talk to. Overall, I really enjoy the food here and would go back without a voucher, although probably for a value menu as the a la carte dishes are quite expensive. One thing I would not suggest this place for is a first/second date, as the lighting is very bright, which doesn't make for the most romantic atmosphere - a bit like eating in my living room. Great food though.

Only went here because we had a deal voucher, which at the end of the meal we were told could not be accepted. The gentleman who was working argued with us for ten minutes before calling his boss, who essentially scolded me and still would not accept the deal (which was the only reason we ate here, and which would have knocked something like 25 off our bill). Some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Food wasn't bad, but it was not spectacular, and definitely not worth the drama that happened at the end of the meal. Don't eat here.

Been eating here for 5yrs now and it is the best Indian I have ever had. Their peshwari Naan is unreal, as is the Chicken Lababdar and Saag Paneer. I think this is truly the best Indian in the city. If I could eat if every day I would ;) You must give it a try!
Be the first to ReplyMy friend and I got a deal voucher.
Oh dear! With our voucher we could order food of up to €60 value but when we wanted to make an order, waitress told us we weren't allowed to order neither prawns or kebab dishes. Well nothing about this on the voucher. After all they decided to agree with us, however the atmosphere was ruined. Food wise very average. I had Lamb Masala for my main and Meat Samosas for starter. To be honest had way better from my local Take Away.
Be the first to ReplyArmed with a deal voucher purchased online, me and friends
Armed with a deal voucher purchased online, me and friends went to this place for nice 2 course Indian meal. The service we found was a bit awkward- we have had food at various indian restaurants before, and staff we usually find to be very friendly and flexible to our simple vegetarian requirements. We were in for a surprise at this Saagar restaurant, where the staff we found to be unfriendly, and not ready to listen to us. We decided, lets just order from the menu, eat and get out of this place, and to cool down we ordered couple of beers!!!!! for which we got charged 9EUR for a pint.. what a rip off, when asked to explain such steep price, they just mentioned it was due to higher licencing fees etc.... Never ever going to this place again.. and oh btw.. food was not completely out of this world, having eaten at many indian restaurants across dublin, i can safely say i have had better food at a cheaper price..

One of the best Indian restaurants I've found in Dublin.
Be the first to ReplyArmed with a fifty euro voucher, myself and the Corkwoman
Armed with a fifty euro voucher, myself and the Corkwoman headed in to Saagar, which is located in the basement of a Georgian building on Harcourt St. Apparently Bram Stoker used to live here, and the black range cooker which was part of the kitchen during his tenancy is still there, probably lurking in the shadows and waiting to pounce on the necks of passing virgins. Our eating experience there was very mixed, unfortunately. The waiter service was good, and the menu has a decent range to choose from. The chicken starter was a disappointment though, really rubbery and flavourless. On the other hand, my main, the pindi channa (chickpeas in a tomato sauce) was terrific; spicy and flavoursome. The Corkwoman's chicken tikka masala was served in really sweet and creamy sauce, lovely if that's what you go for in an Indian curry, but the chicken itself was, again, very rubbery. My garlic naan smelled slightly of garlic, sadly that's all I can say about it! We both ordered coke, which was almost completely flat. The restaurant started to fill up towards the end of our meal, and despite getting quite busy, the waiter kept an eye on us. The service is good, friendly and not intrusive, but I can't say I'd recommend it for the food. I'm glad I didn't pay full whack for the meal, it really wasn't worth it.
