Well...for a 2 Michelin star place, it surely deserves 2 Yelp Stars. The setting of this place is dark and cozy and the noise level is high. I could hear the loud party of six next to us and I could hear the couple in the corner two tables over. Oh and I could hear the guy at the table behind me and two seatings over talking on his cellphone on speaker (as well as the compressed mandarin audio coming from his phone); this went on for minutes and the staff didn't ask him to go to the other room where nobody was seated or anything (maybe they did, my back was to him..but it just went on and on). The wait staff seemed kinda disinterested while they dropped off food or poured drinks quickly saying what it was and walking away fast (forcing us to have them repeat things because we often couldn't catch what they said). It was really just bizarre given the (past) reputation and former 3 star now 2 star rating. The food, well, we we went in between Christmas and New Years and I wonder if everybody was just away. Some dishes were good (the caviar and the opening lemon ice) and some were very good (local crab in beef tendon stew and the new potatoes) and the rest was just meh to ok and really leaned like a spring time meal (not a last week of December...the service opened with lemon ice and that doesn't say winter meal). Lastly the plating was just basic (not what they are known for). Nothing really to see here with originality, creativity, taste, or service. So I gotta say hit literally any other Michelin starred place in SF instead.
