Bad service
Terrible service. We came at 4:15 with a revelation and asked to move tables for medical reasons, and were denied despite a very empty restaurant. When we asked for a number or email to file a complaint we were given the reservation number on a card. This a place with good-ish food but terrible service and they don't want to get better.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience here. The food was not just delicious but fun and different! What a chef!! It is a fantastic twist to Mexican food and flavors. Their wine list was limited but they also have a fun and different cocktail menu and an extensive list of spirits (make sure to ask). The staff was great as well. Very friendly, helpful, and efficient! We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

I gather that this place was better at one time, but after 2 visits, I have to say it’s been average food & drink that is laughably overpriced. The worst offender was the sparse plate of 3 dry & overcooked ribs (for $26!). That’s just embarrassing. The churros were also overcooked and greasy. Chef needs to get this one back into shape.
Be the first to ReplyJust Wasn't Worth It
Three of us shared five dishes, with lots of guidance from the waitress. The only memorable one was the churros desert. The ribs plate, $26, consisted of just 6 of the little guys, covered in lettuce to disguise its paucity. With just a modest vino intake over two hours the total came to about $250 before the tip.

This is s great neighborhood gourmet Mexican restaurant. We really like the gluten free menu. Some of their mixtures of foods are a little too “frou-frou” for us, but overall, we love to sit at the bar and try different drinks. They have all sorts of custom kombucha drinks.the room itself can be very loud. There is always a line to get in as soon as it opens. I’ve always loved their gluten free churros with chocolate. Once, it was fried too dark, but most of the time, it has been really good.

One of my local Minneapolis favorites. Situated on a quiet neighborhood corner, the first inkling I get as I approach the restaurant is "home" Upon entering I'm immediately struck by the glorious vibe. The plant wall, the open warmth immediately draw my attention away from any stresses I might have had before entering. I am in my happy place. Add the food is extremely thoughtful and original. The service is top notch! Worth the culinary indulgence on every level.

One of the best restaurants we've been to in a while! The do have a parking lot, but very few spaces, so you'll probably have to park in the surrounding neighborhood if you don't show up at open. Service was great. Can't compliment our server, Taylor, enough! He was down to earth, friendly, and super helpful in making menu recommendations. The drinks here were amazing. A lot of places make drinks too sweet a) to give you less alcohol or b) because their bar staff don't know what they're doing. Not here! The three drinks we got were perfectly balanced. Even the "sweet" drink we got wasn't that sweet! The "Naked Dani" is the drink you've seen pictures of with the little rubber duck. My gf got it and it was good. You even get to keep the duck! Food here is excellent as well. It's tapas style small plates, each dish is easy to share with two people. Seasoning was great, creating robust and flavorful dishes. No bland food here! Everything was delicious, but highly recommend the Colita Old Fashioned, Tlayuda, Lamb Barbacoa Tacos. And be sure to save room for Churros as dessert! We'll definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyInnovative and Delicious
Dining at Colita's was truly a unique experience with innovative dishes. The ambience is very hip and great for people watching. The service is warm and enthusiastic. The drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were both gorgeous and delicious. It was fun to watch the bartenders at work. But, the highlight is the food. We had the charred eggplant with burrata, St. Louis spare ribs, sea bass with white mole, lamb barbacoa tacos, cacio e pepe, and churros. Each dish was so inventive and unexpected. Colita is definitely a splurge, but offers a memorable experience.
Be the first to ReplyHate to write it but the food did not wow me
I have cooked Mexican at home for over 10 years and have eaten in a number of Mexican restaurants over the years as well ranging from hole in the wall to upscale places. I really hate to say it but Colita just didn't do it for me. Yes, the food tastes good and it's all yummy but Mexican food, if done well, is a flavor explosion at every bite. I didn't experience that at Colita. Ugh :/ The space is so beautiful and the server was so wonderful & knowledgeable & kind, it's a bummer that the food didn't knock my socks off. The other thing that bugged me: The chairs are a tad too low for the table! Ugh! No fun feeling like a kid paying adult prices for food.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic!
Absolutely fantastic! This is not your typical Mexican restaurant! Had reservations, got seated about 15 minutes after our reservation time. All the food and drinks are all very unique. This meal was one of the best tasting adventures I have had. The service was exceptional! The place is rather expensive but worth every penny. I want to go back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Ambience, but...
I went with a friendly group and had a wonderful time. It was very full on a Tuesday evening. We sat outside- the customer heating worked well, except that I got a lot of smoke in my clothes.
Unfortunately, the food disappointed. The tlayuda (sorta toastada) seemed like I could have easily made it the microwave. The Scallops were good, but nothing unusual and the winter squash was clearly undercooked and hard to get out of the shell. Other in the group were much happier.
One of my most memorable meals!!
I flew in from out of town just to try Colita. My expectations were high based on everything I read and saw. It not only lived up to expectations, but they were exceeded. The decor and ambiance set a wonderful tone. The service was excellent. Every dish continued to get better and build on the next. Wonderful menu. Not only did have some authentic offerings, but the prices were excellent. Loved everything and couldn’t recommend it enough!!
Be the first to ReplyTremendous food, Obscenely expensive, pathetic service
We celebrated a 60th birthday here. We had heard prices were high but food was great. Both were true. However Tapas dishes running from $16 - $21 and a recommendation to order 3-4 per person makes for a very expensive meal. At those prices the waiter should come to your table at least once after taking the order. The $4.50 6 oz Iced tea was empty 10 minutes after sitting down and was never refilled. The water was empty 2 minutes later and was never refilled. On top of the over priced food and bad service they have the audacity to add a 20%"service charge". At those tapas prices they should be able to pay a fair wage. Never again. While the food was great the total experience left a very bad taste in our mouths.

We managed to get a reservation on a busy Saturday night so I was anxious to try some of their highly rated menu items. The restaurant is fairly small so tables are close together, while outdoor seating helps accommodate more people. I thought our server was excellent and informative. After having the Naked Dani cocktail and also some virgin drinks, I would recommend coming here just to try one of their drinks, they were excellent.
The shrimp tacos were probably one of my favorite things on the menu. The chicken tinga tacos and corn elote and potatoes were also outstanding. The pork shoulder tacos were good, but I wouldn't order them again. We didn't care for the sauce on the lamb tacos at all so unfortunately we didn't finish them. My other complaint would be the masa and guacamole isn't the easiest to share because someone has to break those giant chips into pieces or you can't dip them into the sauces. I'd prefer the regular small chips! We did try the churros for dessert, very unique and excellent.
They do add a 20% service charge to the bill which they state is not a tip and is used to pay their employees better. However when you get your credit card slip, there's no space for a tip so not sure why they make you write in a tip if you want to leave one. It's not very conducive to actually having people tip in my opinion. We went ahead and wrote the whole tip line in. It ends up being expensive, with this extra service charge plus the tip and cost of the food. We did still enjoyed the meal and the overall experience.
Amazing place!
What a great neighborhood gem! Food was fantastic, drinks unusual and delicious, atmosphere fun and exciting! The homemade tortilla guac, salsa and bean dip amazing! Drinks so fun ---GO!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyMexican cuisine can hold it's own with any when prepared like this!
There is a difference between "food" and superb preparation and interpretation of an ethnic cuisine. When in Mexico at an inclusive resort we never had much "typical" Mexican cooking as their meal plan was oriented toward "international" cuisine. Even when traveling in the Southwest our usual Mexican restaurant experience as in Minneapolis was at a chain or mom and pop source (we generally avoid fast food). We could tell by the first bite this was different. We had never thought a Mexican meal could be a gourmet dining experience. We have been proven wrong by Colita! One caveat-bring ear plugs or turn off your hearing aid.
Be the first to ReplySlightly Disappointed
This restaurant had been on my ‘to go’ list for quite awhile and wish I had a better review to give. There was four of us and by the time Reproach via server and received her first drinks 20 minutes had gone by. Two of us had wine and I ordered the Naked Dani but the server brought to one for another friend who did not order a drink. We ordered our first round of shareable’s to eat: the beef tartare, the fried shrimp tacos & the pork tacos. By the time we ate those and we’re ready to order more food the server told us we had to be out in 30 minutes because of time restrictions. Very irritating. She never came back to refill our waters and we had to rush to have a dessert together before the time ran out. The dessert was amazing and I would’ve love to have a another drink and relaxed to enjoy it. We won’t be back until they change that or get better service.
Be the first to ReplyIt's okay
After hearing and reading raving reviews, I finally had a chance to eat here, and was so disappointed. After ordering the Papa Noel, first impression, could they pack anymore ice into the glass? Seriously, at $13 for a cocktail filled with ice gives the consumer what... 4 sucks from the straw and that's it? We ordered and shared a lot of food, but the biggest let downs were the Tuna Tostada, which is like an overpriced chip with guacamole as the guacamole takes over the taste of the tuna. The pork ribs barely had any meat (there were 3 of them) but a lot of side salad to share. The rest of dishes were okay, which included scallops, charred eggplant, shrimp tacos and corn elote. After leaving there, I'm not sure why everyone raves about this place.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly disappointed, Food was great but "patio" seating and service was horrible
First I'll say I had been wanting to go to Colita since it opened but had difficulty getting a reservation and then the pandemic hit. I had heard so many rave reviews that I could not wait and I had very high expectations which is why I was likely so disappointed. To celebrate my husband and my birthdays we decided to actually go out on a date. I chose patio seating because I am less comfortable with indoor seating. Of course, we were in a cold snap so it was freezing but I dressed for the occasion with three layers. I had heard the patio was very nice and was still looking forward to it despite the cold weather. Unfortunately we were not on the patio but instead at a table on the sidewalk next to the parking lot. There were two heaters out side but they were by the other two table on the sidewalk so not near us at all. We were also right next to the side door and there were a ton of people coming and going for pickup orders and many not wearing masks since they were just "picking up". Also given how busy they were with pickups our first plates took forever to come out, which is disappointing since we are only allowed 90min to eat. They also never brought my coffee with my desert or offered me another drink after I finished my Horchata. The food was absolutely AMAZING! I love the food. However it was not the date night I was hoping for with my husband for my birthday. Our waitress was super nice and very apologetic and gave us a free dessert.I'm sure I will go back but not until the pandemic is improving and I feel comfortable with indoor seating. I hope Colita can survive until then as so many of our amazing local restaurants have closed.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Evening On All Fronts
Every part of this evening was fantastic! The atmosphere was amazing, the food was incredible, drinks were outstanding - We ordered way too much but couldn't stop eating. It was a fantastic night and I can't recommend it highly enough. The only thing we didn't like were the fried green tomatoes - the dish didn't come together and it was way over salted. But everything else (which was pretty much everything else that was offered on the menu) was a homerun! Can't wait to go back, it's a "must go to" if you're looking for a special night out!
