Fantastic Lunch in NYC
Thank you Daniel Boulud!
Nice discreet dining experience in Mid-town.
I had the Original DB Burger with foie gras. It is still amazing. A bottle of Bordeaux with the meal and pleasant company. Fantastic.
Really good foie gras burgers,
Really good foie gras burgers, high quality wine list and relaxing decor. All that with professional service. A good address for dinners in NY

DB Moderne serves top notch food in a lovely bistro setting. We were 9 people and everyone at the table loved their dishes. Ive been several times and it is consistently delicious. Highly recommend.

We were eager to try Daniel Boulud's modern French bistro--given his reputation. And it was a perfect location for a pre-theater meal, especially during restaurant week. Granted, that's not always representative of what a restaurant has to offer, but still, we were disappointing by our meals. The appetizers (we all got the apple and blue cheese salad) were adequate as were two of the main courses: one steak & Frites, one coq au vin. The star was, by far, the duck breast. Crisp skin, juicy meat. Yum.
Desserts, however, were a major letdown. The almond cake was very dry and didn't pack a lot of punch. And the white chocolate creme caramel was a tasteless blog--accompanies by delicious red-wine poached pear and ginger ice cream. If only the creme caramel was gone and they added more pears and ice cream, that dish would have been heaven.
Service was just ok, not particularly attentive.
We expected better from DB. Too bad.
excellent breakfast
We had never gone to db Bistro for breakfast, though we have enjoyed dinner there several times. We went in for Sunday brunch, and though the place was virtually empty when we arrived, everything went well, and our breakfast dishes were wonderful; beyond that it was reasonably good value for money. I think the only shortcoming was that the menu was surprisingly brief, but there were good, standard breakfast choices.

Went here for restaurant week, so maybe that is part of the reason... but from the second we entered the main dining room, I felt I had stepped into a busy bar 20 minutes before closing call. I could barely hear my wife across the table and it just destroyed the whole experience.
I loved my starter (some melted cheese thing), and I had their famous burger which was fine (but not my favorite). My wife had the Dover sole and loved it.
However, it was overall not a pleasant experience and maybe RW is not the right time to go, but there are so many other awesome restaurants in NYC so why risk it... so not going back.
Enjoyable Lunch - Consistently Good Food
My spouse and I had lunch at Bistro Moderne last week, and we enjoyed it as much as we had on our previous visits. The Restaurant Week menu offered several interesting choices, and we were quite pleased with those we selected. One of our starters was a very tasty Brussels sprouts salad, and the other was an Alsatian tarte flambée. I was expecting something more like an actual tart and less like the thin flatbread I was served. When I googled the dish, however, all the example photos looked exactly like my tarte, so there was no false advertising! Mains were a steak frites, which was very tender and tasty, and their famous burger, which was a bit overwhelming but delicious. Dessert was a poppyseed gateau au citron, which looked beautiful and tasted great, but was a bit on the skimpy side.
The staff was pleasant and courteous, and the full house made for a lively atmosphere. Decor is comfortable and, considering the restaurant's longevity, not at all dated. The location is great, not too far from MOMA and Fifth Avenue to the east and Times Square theaters to the west. If you dine here, the likelihood is that you will not be disappointed.
